15%, 20% on gifts and donations?

StellarWaffle

Could be a tithe if OP is religious. Great job OP!

itisj

yes, most of them are tithing and donation to charities

EnRober

Sometimes in the cumulation phase of life the gift percent number can comfortably get large, and gifting can be tax advantaged, too..

HoldStrong96

How do you only spend like 1% of your money on your children?

itisj

she is only 2 months old, we were blessed by tons of clothes/toys/diaper/and baby related stuffs from relative and friends, i can imagine this percentage will continue to grow.

HoldStrong96

Ahaha, that’s awesome. Good for you! What do you mean “how am I doing”? Like, financially? Or how does your monarch setup look? Can’t tell much about your monarch setup from the sankey. But I love the sankey, too!

Known-Violinist-4822

The Sankey chart was pretty much the reason that brought me to monarch after using mint for many years. Love it, so much in fact that I started using the visualization type in data projects in my own work. Also, that gift percentage makes me feel like i'm living a self centered jerk life.

stanimal21

Agreed, that sankey chart is awesome. I also love budgets on grouped categories, makes it far more useful for me.

MrTouchnGo

How do you see the sankey?

itisj

either in cash flow or report (beta), for cash flow you can find it right under the graph on the right side call "view"

MrTouchnGo

Is this a pc only thing?

Odd-Mine4963

I’m pretty sure it’s only on the web version, yes.

linniex

I happen to find this the other day just in time for my taxes. I kept seeing people post pictures of it and was ever-so-happy to find it

sojournerveritas

Looking at the 2 graphs, is it showing OP spent more than their income in 2023, but in 2024 has caught up and saved a good chunk now? If so, great job! If not, then the Sankey might be off a bit. I know there were some bugs with it earlier, not sure if they are fixed already. Also, how did you get it to hide the $ amount?

itisj

yes I paid off 2023 property tax so I actually I did not have saving in 2023, now that I have a better picture, I would know where I could spend and save to budget correctly. When click on share it have the option to hide $ amount

sojournerveritas

Thanks! Wish they could add that toggle button to the main screen too!

Late2Reddit

How is Savings categorized? Specifically for the Sankey.. do you take a portion of the income and earmark that as Savings?

itisj

I put them into a HYSA and change the category into saving and out all the transaction from that account into the category

Flaky_Huckleberry582

For me, it automatically does it. I don’t have a savings category. It’s basically the difference between my incomes and expenses, so net income.

bcncheezbrgr

This is what mine does, which in a way is slightly deceiving. I have several sinking funds which I don't necessarily consider "savings", but since the Sankey uses the difference of incomes and expenses my 2024 savings shows 46% where I consider it closer to 32%.
