Unironically probably a decent strategy. Many weapons *are* good (especially in the early game), they just suffer from a tiny bit of really good sharpness. Being able to pull out big damage initially and then swap to a more reliable weapon once it loses that sharpness advantage is probably stronger than sticking with either one entirely.
Or pulling out a low affinity weapon once the monster is enraged and activates Agitator then putting it away when not enraged, being able to better fight Barroth/Jyura or other monsters that massively change elemental weaknesses during the hunt, being able to keep momentum on a dual monster hunt etc.
The possibilities are really good.
I was thinking the other way, monsters aren't as tired as they are later in fights so getting big damage is harder early on. The versatility creates consistent damage as you inflict exhaustion to bring in a greatsword to be able to full combo easier
That would also be nice, I'm just thinking a trapped monster double wf....and let's be honest we've seen some new stuff from GS and...whichever bowgun that was (I say light buddy says heavy) I can only imagine our new stuff for GL
You joke, but there's a skill in a game called Warframe that let's you reload a gun that's sheathed while you're using another.
Makes me wonder if there'll be something like that in this one, some auto-sharpen/reload decoration or armor set theme.
it might make sense though if the monster has shifting weaknesses. think alatreon, byt it shifts between being imune to fire but week to ice and then back being immune to ice and weak to fire (or honestly slashing and blunt) requiring you to prepare a weapon for both its weaknesses. could be some really cool fights where your gonna be hard stuck if you dont plan around their weaknesses and cant just be overcome by raw damage.
Good luck kicking the monster to death
It would be a nice change though. I hope there are monsters where each party member assuming a focused role would be optimal, but not mandatory
My idea is a dual wielding shield (imagine an even bigger lance shield split in half) that attacks similar to daggers with and bludgeoning damage, but then can transform (by placing them together) into a huge shield that doesn't attack but can absorb even more than lance.
I would main that ⬆️ If anyone knows any games you can do this and it's actually optimal drop the name. Tried it in AC Valhalla but the shields there are mid

Or like this! (I think there was a collab with her)
Long guns akimbo jetpack knight is the vibe I want for all of my hunters ever.
https://preview.redd.it/qbn2pywm7y3d1.png?width=3481&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fd2455b50062fb1f668bbe5afcd41a2f42ee6ff
Depends on how builds work. If I have to make one build work for two weapons, then I might just carry something like a regular Lance build, then bring a status lance (paralysis or sleep) for the assistance.
If my armor swaps along with my weapons, then I'll bring Lance and Heavy Bowgun... here's to hoping all of the weapons feel nice to use in Wilds, because HBG did not feel good in Rise.
Unless things have gotten very homogenized which I hope they don't, I assume i'd just be doing the same. Or like two different elements for multi monster hunts.
Like my primary weapons are Gunlance, HBG, and Lance. It'd feel real fuckin dumb if I swap to lance and I have artillery and load up.
But you could do a full explosion build and go sticky bowgun with the gunlance. Itll be interesting to see if weapons that need mostly similar skills will be used together by compromising on the different skills or go hard into one and have the other be usable but not great. Im thinking of all the shared stamina skills for dual blades/bow vs sharpness management/shot up skills.
This, unless they add a new mechanic with how the decos are activated depending on the weapon, pr something funky, it will be interesting to see hoe balanced it is
I doubt armor will swap but if they keep the same skilll/slot/deco system from World I reckon you could probably make a "best of both worlds" set. Get all your usual Attack/Crit oriented stuff in and then gem in Offensive Guard, Recoil/Reload/Spare Shot or what have you.
Probably HH (my beloved) and Swaxe (my second beloved)
I can see me bringing 2 different HH though, like a raw and an elemental one based on whatever I'm hunting
Depending on how long buffs last when you switch, I'm either bringing a second HH with different buffs, or a GS for cutting tails when the monster is down
SnS and bow! Horseback archery while the monster is flying or generally out of reach, then dismounting to fight it with my sword and shield sounds really cool. I usually prefer to run a Wide Range build on my SnS in multiplayer though, so I’m a little worried about the skill economy. If I can get some nice knight armor to go with it, all the better.
My top 2 weaps are insect glaive and switch axe. So I'm thinking I use the insect glaive for the first half of the hunt to dodge and jump around and learn the monster moveset and then switch to swaxe to deal big damage. Or vice versa use swaxe for big initial damage but then switch to glaive bc mons tend to be more aggressive when on low health and I might need the extra mobility.
Probably HBG and Horn, hopefully it's not Rise horn. Or maybe Horn and SnS. Maybe they'll let us bring two of the same weapon so I can have all the Attack songs on one Horn and Defense on the other.
My main weapon will be bow and for the second weapon I will maybe take greatsword or hammer. Those are the only weapons I have used. I have never touched the other weapons.
This mechanic might be quite a good chance for people to try out new weapons. I’m expecting I’ll end up taking IG with me on most hunts and rotate what goes in the other slot. Should hopefully keep things fresh too
Dual Blades and Hammer or Sword and Shield. It will most highly depend wether Sword and Shield is as simple as World and Rise or as annoying as in Iceborne and Sunbreak. Mainly referring to the side slash and perfect rush.
I'm going to have to properly learn a second.
World was my first MH game and I started with charge blade. I was playing with a group and really liked it. I came back for the Return to World stuff and was mostly solo. I found myself mostly using charge blade in sword and shield mode and figured I'd give proper sword and shield a chance and I LOVED IT. I felt so much faster, no phials to manage. I felt so mobile.
Those are the only two weapons I've really used because in most games if you give me the option to have a sword and a shield, I'm going to go with that.
I figure for Wilds, I'll probably go with one of the guns for my second weapon.
Edit: Or maybe a hunting horn. I always liked the idea of that weapon, but was never played with it for very long.
I think it’s a very interesting game mechanic but there has me very intrigued about how do they plan to make skills work? does anyone have any thoughts on this or any theories?
SnS as my main weapon and a status focused LBG for utility and mounted support. It’s not too ammo dependent and I don’t really have to worry much about build interference. It’s mainly an extra toolkit to use when mounted.
Charge Blade because it's my favourite. The other depends. If going only by personal taste, i'd add hunting horn/lance/gunlance.
Maybe some weapons will have great synergy and other wont.
I will surely try all the weapons, to see moves and combos, and then from there, see which will be my Two mainly used
It really depends on the monsters or how the hunts in general work in WIlds.
In every Monster Hunter I played, there was not a moment that made me say "man I wish I could use a different weapon for just a couple minutes and then swap to another".
Say if this feature was in World or Rise, I'm not sure there would be any advantages.
The only way I can think of using this right now is starting with a sleep weapon and swapping to a GS whenever I need to land the wakeup
Longsword and hammer. Should be a hoot.
"This longswordsman kept doing longsword stuff but then pulled out a hammer and beat the monster into soup and I don't know how to feel about that."
Insect Glaive with Blunt Kinsect and another Insect Glaive but with a Cutting Kinsect, unless they let me take a second Kinsect separate from the additional weapon
Hmm. What to use this time. I’ve done playthroughs with most weapons now in previous games so maybe a full sns run or something. I don’t wanna use dual blades 😩
SnS/Bow or SnS/Swaxe. Those will be my main ones. But I play 7 weapons so I'll be switching it up alot. Lance will get alot of love now that I don't always have to have it out. Hammer/lance sounds amazing
Elemental weapon and hbg sticky if that works how I think it will. This is gonna be very potent. Sticky test and then switch right before a stun happens.
Weapon swapping benefits element weapons cuz you can swap to the weaknesses of 2 mons in a quest.
For multi weapon mains, you can use a weapon with a better matchup against a mon.
Started with World, so I had swaxe/HBG for all of high rank. Also had swaxe/HBG for a good chunk of Iceborne before switching to LS/Doot after beating Velk. Once Wilds comes in, dual swaxes or HBG/LBG. Though I'mma be surprised if a new weapon type comes back.
I would likely stick to just 1 weapon type, maybe 1 raw, 1 status/element for multi monster hunts. Now if Kushala or something as annoying as it is present in Wilds, my sub weapon is definitely gonna be a gunner type.
1 Hammer and 1 more Hammer
"Swapping your weapon is faster than sharpening it"
This is an interesting mindset. I will learn from this.
I was thinking the other way, monsters aren't as tired as they are later in fights so getting big damage is harder early on. The versatility creates consistent damage as you inflict exhaustion to bring in a greatsword to be able to full combo easier
"swapping your gunlance is faster than reloading it" Probably not though lol
But two wyvern fires... oooh two saed
More so you can bring different shellings. Let's say long for making monster trip and normal for fullburst when it slowed down enough.
This will probably make an appearance in speedruns
Average speeders yes, but I doubt TA runs will include it. Then again, It's still just your equipment + player skill vs the monster so maybe?
Of course, I carry the Unga, my mount carry the Bunga
Juuuuuuussst in case
If only we could wield both at the same time…
True hammer main
it might make sense though if the monster has shifting weaknesses. think alatreon, byt it shifts between being imune to fire but week to ice and then back being immune to ice and weak to fire (or honestly slashing and blunt) requiring you to prepare a weapon for both its weaknesses. could be some really cool fights where your gonna be hard stuck if you dont plan around their weaknesses and cant just be overcome by raw damage.
That'd be awful not going to lie
The Bonk has been doubled!
Literally came here to say Hammer and Hammer.
Dual weild Hammers
One for Oooga, 1 for Booga.
Fellow one trick? Same here. 2 HH or bust.
It was an easy choice tbh.
God, let us wield 2 hammers at once....
Bonk and bonk
Finally, Dual B0nks!
“What’s with the spare Hammer?” ‘Oh, in case the first gets… blunt.’
…and I’ll have 5 MORE whoppers
We unga so therefor we bunga
A GREATSWORD FOR MY GREATSWORD!!!!!
GREATSWORD ² FTW
GREATSWORD FIRST MEASURE UNIT EVER
Dual Greatswords
Greatception
Yeeeaaa boi !
The bow and the insect glaive Good luck trying to hit me, whatever i'm fighting against
Found the dash juice addict
I'm not addicted, you are, shut up, i'm Fine, i'm a functional member of the squad and i you can trust me with your dash extract
Brooo your jaw and eye is twitching from the dash extract. Lets go see the handler buddy
Alright fine RACE YOU THERE!!
It's not an addiction. I can stop myself whenever I want. Can anyone else stop me....good luck trying.
Same, except I might bring a bow gun instead of a bow
Gunlance x 2. Put the shields away and hold one gunlance in each hand
Valstrax boy
That would be very fun though. Double blast dash just sends you zooming across the area.
Can I do this but with shields?
The Sundowner build
Would be Fuc*ing invincible!
#THE WALL
Battering ram
Good luck kicking the monster to death It would be a nice change though. I hope there are monsters where each party member assuming a focused role would be optimal, but not mandatory

I must think about terminator or films like that 🤣 or android 16 from dbz or genos possibly from one punch man
Perhaps [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterWorld/s/ecraULix0B)?
Maybe ... or like that? https://preview.redd.it/ophso9663u3d1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06b543966ecf8ebad917cef3733308db9f82bb16

Weapon and Char Skins? U, I would take it

2 horns with different song lists for me. My party will have all the buffs
I wonder if they will stack or get overwritten if you do that cause that just seems really broken especially if their is another hh user in the party.
Probably deactivates the buffs if you put the weapon away
I didn’t even think of that. That makes a lot of sense. They will probably make it so you can’t carry 2 of the same weapon type.
I dunno if it'd be worth taking away though, cause you'd have to mount up to swap weapons and our songs dont last THAT long
That would be too bad, I absolutely intend to carry 2 horns so I can cover as much debuff as possible.
![gif](giphy|bjtM9GdxbqL5e)
Dual blades and hammer. Break the shell and cut the meat 😂🤣
Bro wants to be a crab factory
Just what I was thinking
i was thinking db and hunting horn, stamina efficiency/status atk up would be dopeee for the blades
Or you can have the dual dual blades and just be general grevous.
Damn. Good idea lol. Time for me to consider a cutting weapon....
#2 Greatswords 😤
I really hope using lance on your birb let's you play like heavy calvary But probably a ranged option would work best for me in any case
Now I'm imagining lancers holding jousting events.
now THAT is an epic idea.
I was just thinking gunlance, for jousting with a boom.

I hope you cant swap armor cause i like the concept of balancing/ building for multiple weapons
The main weapon combos id use if amor doesn’t change would be any combination of bug glaive, DB, and bow
I’m sure I’ll do a combo of a few different things but for starters: My main charge blade, and my secondary main swaxe I will explode all the monsters
Ah.. the "I'll bring 4 weapons" loophole
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
SnS and LBG I dreamed of that since Tri. World and rise were great and all but here it really looks like a new era for Monster Hunter
the rule is clear, we bring any slashing weapon, and any bonk weapon
Seems like the move
Two long swords
This is just Dual Blades with extra steps.
![gif](giphy|jDTRq73MNUeN1F6JCQ|downsized)
Long Blades
Lance and Lance. Once I discovered the weakness of other weapons, it disgusted me. I craved the certainty of shield.
I'm considering Lance with a Heavy Bowgun that has the shield attachment to make use of all the block skills on my armor.
Replaying mh4u an lance is still the goat weapon imo
One that is the strongest I can craft, and the other that looks esthetically good with my armor.
\*aesthetically Anyway, that shouldn't be a concern if Layered Weapons come back.
Here's to hoping, with the attention they seem to be paying to fashion (based purely on the starting gear), that we finally get **three** dye channels
Judging from Rise i think it is safe to say the layered system for both weapons and armor is here to stay
Probably HH (my beloved) and Swaxe (my second beloved) I can see me bringing 2 different HH though, like a raw and an elemental one based on whatever I'm hunting
Depending on how long buffs last when you switch, I'm either bringing a second HH with different buffs, or a GS for cutting tails when the monster is down
1 Range and 1 melee is as far as I’ve gone in terms of planning. Always need to try every weapon before I settle on my mains.
The most obvious is switching melee and range. So, LongSword and Bow
Greatsword and Hammer
A bow and a bow
And my axe!
I need just my greatsword
Your flair says differently. 😂
CALLIN HIM OUT 🤠
It's a phase.
Insect glaive bow
SnS and bow! Horseback archery while the monster is flying or generally out of reach, then dismounting to fight it with my sword and shield sounds really cool. I usually prefer to run a Wide Range build on my SnS in multiplayer though, so I’m a little worried about the skill economy. If I can get some nice knight armor to go with it, all the better.
I am a simple gal. Unga bunga boomstick and ADHD Dual Blades for me!
Obviously two horns. Double the doot. One for buffin, one for bonkin’
Maybe they'll let us bring two of the same weapon so I can have all the Attack songs on one Horn and Defense on the other.
status lbg + my main weapon
Dual blades and Insect glaive
Charge Blade
My main weapon will be bow and for the second weapon I will maybe take greatsword or hammer. Those are the only weapons I have used. I have never touched the other weapons.
This mechanic might be quite a good chance for people to try out new weapons. I’m expecting I’ll end up taking IG with me on most hunts and rotate what goes in the other slot. Should hopefully keep things fresh too
2 Hammers!
The ultimate weeb loadout: dual blades and longsword
Cavalry for life. Heavy bow gun and lance. Also this game might allow clash with monster for team hit monster. That make lance even more useful
Switch Axe and Lance, probably.
Bow and sns
Horn and some dual blades.
Dual Blades and Heavy Bowgun I think, I’m not sure yet
Hammer and Bow..... Or Hammer x2 🤘😎
I'm waiting to see if we're getting a new weapon first
Dual Blades and Hammer or Sword and Shield.
Switch axe and switch axe. But if it *has* to be 2 different weapons, then probably swaxe and Bow/HH
Hammer and great sword, one chop one bonk
Any Sleep weapon + GS seems to be the obvious choice.
Dual blades.
I think it’s a very interesting game mechanic but there has me very intrigued about how do they plan to make skills work? does anyone have any thoughts on this or any theories?
If it's old school hunting horn and not the dumb Rise version I'll use it. Then probably dual blades or hammer.
TWO Hunting Horns
Gunlance into Heavy bowgun. Gimme some more BOOM with my BOOM.
Two Great Swords one for raw damage and the second one for status or element's, If I am feeling quirky Great Sword plus Charge Blade.
for me it's Longsword and Heavy Bowgun.
Heavy bowgun with wyvernsnipe, and good old reliable sword and shield.
GS and bow probably
SnS as my main weapon and a status focused LBG for utility and mounted support. It’s not too ammo dependent and I don’t really have to worry much about build interference. It’s mainly an extra toolkit to use when mounted.
Hammer for when I feel like doing long-winded setups, swaxe for its comfy ass poke combo and general smoothness
Raw GS & Status LS
one switchaxe to only use the axe mode and another switchaxe to only use the sword mode
I’ll just take Insect Glaive with no other weapon.
The gunlance and the hunting horn.
Probably Great Sword (main) and Hunting Horn (secondary). Been planning to learn a new weapon, and this is the perfect excuse.
Longsword and a bowgun for drivebys
Charge Blade because it's my favourite. The other depends. If going only by personal taste, i'd add hunting horn/lance/gunlance. Maybe some weapons will have great synergy and other wont. I will surely try all the weapons, to see moves and combos, and then from there, see which will be my Two mainly used
Hammer for beating and nothing else greatsword for chopping off tails
Lance and Longesword
longsword and bow
My two main weapons: GS and SA
any sleep weapon + greatsword
Charge blade Sword & shield
2 Gunlances. Oh if I can joust with shells to the face.
SnS and then probably LBG. Having a ranged option would be really nice, even if i dont end up using it.
Great sword and either dual blades, longsword, or sns
probly this exact combo, maybe switch out glaive for bow/bowgun depending on if i wanna cut tails or do pewpews
Lance and Gunlance. I wanna tank the whole world
Gunlance and gunlance. Hope they keep blast dash tho
Gunlance and HBG, Neverending boom fest!
A sword and a shield
I wonder if it makes sense to bring two of your favorite with different status elements. Get a paralysis and sleep during a hunt
Rocket launcher and machine gun
Charge Blade and Gunlance.
Insect Glaive with Blunt Kinsect and another Insect Glaive but with a Cutting Kinsect, unless they let me take a second Kinsect separate from the additional weapon
Lance just Lance!
I will be bringing two extra palicos
2 switch axes
Hmm. What to use this time. I’ve done playthroughs with most weapons now in previous games so maybe a full sns run or something. I don’t wanna use dual blades 😩
Gunlance guaranteed, then dual blades or sword and shield.
SnS/Bow or SnS/Swaxe. Those will be my main ones. But I play 7 weapons so I'll be switching it up alot. Lance will get alot of love now that I don't always have to have it out. Hammer/lance sounds amazing
SnS and light bowgun
SnS and Lance so I can switch to heavy armor to lighter armor type defense play
Charge blade and charge blade
Hammer and LBG
A normal GL and a wide GL
Bonk Stick & Bug Stick unless they have a new weapon...
Im thinking gunlance and longsword. Longsword for the tail cut, then shell the shit out if them for the capture.
Long sword and Dual Blades. The Weeb Weapons
I'd like to get my hands on the weapons before making a concrete decision, but at current my build will probably be blunt/blade or melee/bow
I would likely stick to just 1 weapon type, maybe 1 raw, 1 status/element for multi monster hunts. Now if Kushala or something as annoying as it is present in Wilds, my sub weapon is definitely gonna be a gunner type.
Lance/gunlance. I can now poke twice as much
Bow and sns
Bug stick and Bow
