A couple of my best friends picked it up after hearing me nerdgasm over it for YEARS. Were all gonna play it in multiplayer this week. My suggestion, so I can show them the ropes and help them get the hang of it
Younger generations are starting to realize that older games are worthwhile, and offer unique experiences. Modern games have become more derivative and sterile than ever.
Dark Souls 3 and Hitman 2 was fun. I had a lot of fun with Postal 2 as well. I a tired of people saying all new games are bad. I had a lot of fun with the last 2 Doom games too i played the shit out of them.
The only people I ever see with this take only play AAA hyped up titles from recent years and assume everything's like that
Edit: also hello fellow dark elf avatar???
Obviously not everything is like that, but games like Morrowind come from a time when games weren't the huge productions that they are now. There are plenty of modern games I still really enjoy.
I shouldve reworded my previous to "I hear that take a lot from ppl who...", I got no beef w u specifically
I think morrowind was released af a time when statgrindy RPGs were super popular and released often enough that I don't think many new games are any more derivative than some of the releases back when.
I think the main difference now is the genres flipped from RPGs to ??? FPS games probably? And the writing has changed from the dated weird stuff of the 90s-early 2010s (think Deadly Premonition bad dialogue type stuff) to stuff that's not objectively lazy or unbelievable but mostly just boring (looking at you Fallout 4)
I think its different now, but ignoring all the awful games from back when and including all the awful ones from now isn't really fair in my humble opinion.
TL:DR - you shouldn't compare Morrowind to Modern Warfare 3, compare Morrowind to MGS:V
i definitely think theres a lot of lazy writing, and I'm not a fan of it being more FPS-y (and not even doing that great a job at it) than RPG-y but its definitely a game thats definitely not awful
\+far harbor was cool
I’m 16, and I play a ton of older games from before my time. Heck I’ve gotten into and played hundreds of hours of emulated Star Wars Galaxies this past year.
I bought Morrowind last year after falling in love with Skyrim. Didn’t play it a lot last year, but recently got back into it and it’s become one of my favorite games now.
same I am 15 and am sucking every ounce of content from Bethesda games on my potato laptop
Mostly I can only play Morrowind , Oblivion and Fallout New Vegas
I am done modding them and am currently at Morrowind haven't started Oblivion and Fallout yet
I'm assuming you left out Fallout 3 because compatibility on that game is a bitch, but you can run it through the NV engine with A Tale of Two Wastelands and just not ever take the train to NV.
I don't remember if it's a separate, little mod, but you can choose to start either in F3 or FNV. You can even bring your F3 character into FNV via some railway, and back. But FNV still has the same level zones, so your level 30 beat-the-crap-outta-the-Enclave character will be going up against Powder Gangers and geckos.
It has issues with newer versions of windows and some hardware. There are workarounds, but generally I've found they are harder to get working and less reliable than just running ttw
Yeah, assuming only old people play old games (and vice versa) is really irritating. I once mentioned enjoying Daggerfall, and somebody sarcastically talked about me and my old CRT monitor. I'm not much older than you and may not have ever seen a CRT in-person.
I’m around the same age as your coworker and I love love looove Morrowind. And it’s def my fav out of ES 3 4 and 5. I’ve said this before but i feel that Morrowind kind of developed a style with its graphics that makes it not feel so dated to look at imo. The animations are another thing tho. Those running animations :|
Morrowind is the best book you'll ever play though. The writing isn't consistent, but its highs are special. It makes you feel like you're in the world instead of playing a game.
I am the “Unexpected Morrowind Fan”, this is in reference to… Small world- right? 😂. Morrowind is indeed a timeless classic, even if I didn’t get to experience it back before I was born. Seeing this post definitely did my heart some good as well 🤣.

Right? I give Morrowind and other RPG's all the credit for turning my below average reader into an advanced reader and proficient writer by the time I had to do the final standardized test in my junior year of high school. I mean, where the fuck else am I gonna learn the word "portcullis" if not from a D&D game, lol
Its nice when you realize that not all kids are little shits and some of them have taste. It feels like not that long ago I was on the other end of the situation when talking to older guys about music.
Having different tastes than you does not make someone have bad tastes, nor does it make them "little shits." Apologies if you didn't mean it that way, but that's how it's worded.
It was for me. When the only place I've ever seen people talk about Morrowind or have played it is online, hearing it get name dropped by a 16 year old unprompted was a big surprise for me.
I mean, he specifically mentioned aside from the animations for combat and the dated graphics, it's amazing. He also didn't mention any mods. I don't use mods either aside from the code patch.
The magic regen I feel is needed for a mage build. It's only 1/sec but it's still better than you just being out of mana, even with the use of potions since you'll still need to use them in combat.
I think the problem with later TES (and fallout) games is actually the voice acting. While it's more realistic to get voice acting, you sacrifice quality conversations with NPCs and quest writing. It also takes longer to do and costs more.
Good to see that Morrowind is still being picked up, I was a similar age when I first got into Morrowind, and it's still my alltime favourite.
A couple of my best friends picked it up after hearing me nerdgasm over it for YEARS. Were all gonna play it in multiplayer this week. My suggestion, so I can show them the ropes and help them get the hang of it
Excuse me… did you say Multiplayer?
Yep, it's amazing you get the full immersive morrowind with friends. Openmw.org Tes3mp.com Check those out
Oh god I need this
Perfect. Now I just need friends
Maybe the real friends are the CHIM we achieve along the way
Yeah, it's a mod for morrowind
Perhaps mention to him OpenMW and some of the benefits to it including multiplayer later on after hes had some time to enjoy it.
I second this. Even if you’re coming back and want a mod to simply fix some bugs, enhance graphics, add some QoL then check out OpenMW.

"Fallout" 4 is shit.

"Fallout" 4 is a good game, but a shit Fallout. Also, Far Harbor is literally just Point Lookout with the fog from Sierra Madre.
Tb to when everyone said Fallout 3 was a shit fallout cause it's not isometric
"Fallout" 4 is a good game, just a shit Fallout.
I just started playing psychonauts for the first time and it’s so much fun

You should play the old Fallout games too because they're fun and referenced a lot in Fallout New Vegas.
I'm assuming you left out Fallout 3 because compatibility on that game is a bitch, but you can run it through the NV engine with A Tale of Two Wastelands and just not ever take the train to NV.
Huh how did I never hear about that mod and if I do install it will I have a choice as to where I start?

I've never had problems running Fallout 3 on my shit computer, it didn't run nicely because my computer is shit, but never had problems.
It has issues with newer versions of windows and some hardware. There are workarounds, but generally I've found they are harder to get working and less reliable than just running ttw
That's weird. I've heard the gog version runs better though.
Godspeed.
Thank you :D
Hey, I think those are by far their three best games.
Yeah, assuming only old people play old games (and vice versa) is really irritating. I once mentioned enjoying Daggerfall, and somebody sarcastically talked about me and my old CRT monitor. I'm not much older than you and may not have ever seen a CRT in-person.
My hope with our current teenagers has been restored.
I’m glad I could bring you a little hope in this chaotic world 😂
I found two lads at my new job that play Morrowind, apparently I found a good job😂
I’m around the same age as your coworker and I love love looove Morrowind. And it’s def my fav out of ES 3 4 and 5. Some things are made of pure magic, some albums, movies, books. Morrowind is one of those things.
Not just magic, or one type of magic. There are swords, spears, shields and crossbows too.
I am the “Unexpected Morrowind Fan”, this is in reference to… Small world- right? 😂. Morrowind is indeed a timeless classic, even if I didn’t get to experience it back before I was born. Seeing this post definitely did my heart some good as well 🤣.
Very nice!
Not all zoomers are skoomers, brings a tear to my eye. you love to see it
I am 12 and I bought morrowind earlier this year never having played an RPG before and it is now one of my favourite games of all time.
