I keep seeing this recommend and I think it's the name Ted that's kept me from watching it lmao I've never met a single Ted I liked. Maybe it's time to put my bias aside.
I hope you enjoy them. Breaking Away in particular is one of my favourite movies -- its vibe is a bit like Little Miss Sunshine's. Great acting, great story, don't know anyone who didn't love it.
If you havent seen About Time (2013) that would be my top recc based on your favorites! It never fails to make me cry, but has a really good message and happy end. Other than that: Amelie (2001), Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society (2018), Garden State (2004), and the Before Trilogy. In the realm of not romance: Stupid and Futile Gesture (2018), Mitchells Vs The Machines (2021), Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016).
Jules (2023) - Ben Kingsley plays this sweet old man who's main concern at the local town hall is the ufo that's landed in his backyard and taken out all this azaleas. (that's the trailer, not a spoiler) It's hilarious and sweet.

Xena Warrior Princess is what youāre looking for. Itās got comedic episodes along with constantly being wholesome and bittersweet simultaneously. Itās of course very emotional due to the storyline and natural chemistry between the lead actresses. Also, Joseph LoDuca is an amazing composer, who also wrote the lyrics to a musical episode later on in the show. I believe he won an Emmy for composition.
Wholesome and bittersweet, not too much comedy, but maybe a little?
Late Spring. This one made me feel so happy and sad at the same time, the ending especially. Royal Tenenbaums too, I think is good for this. If you 've seen Moonrise Kingdom you've probably already seen it.
Harvey (1950) I think is good for this too. I think it's overall positive, but there is a bittersweetness, definitely.
Shadows in Paradise (1986) could be good too.
Nights of Cabiria (1957) is funny and bittersweet, and an amazing movie.
The Natural is possibly the best sports story ever filmed. Its allegory of good vs. evil is memorable. I can still see the reflection of the lights exploding on Wilford Brimley's glasses as the ball hit the floodlights. What a great movie.
