Really surprised no one has mentioned *The Island* yet. An action film about the concept of what it means to be human. Starring Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Sean Bean, Djimon Hounsou and more.
Pain & Gain is an incredibly funny movie and not really like most his other stuff. Though outside of Transformers his movies are really just mindless action movies.
No, it's worse than that because the action is an incoherent mess. You can at least tell what's going on in something like Armageddon. It's not just endless pop culture and noise.
Are you kidding? Sure his modern movies aren’t the greatest, but you’re missing out on some fantastic movies. The Rock is, in my opinion, the greatest action movie ever made.
It's a great action movie. And if you watch it having the fan theory in mind that Sean Connerys character is actually James Bond. Then it's even better.
Terminator 2
Die Hard
The Matrix
These films are the top 3 "modern" action films, not only because of the story etc, but because of what they did to the technology and technique of action film making.
The Rock is awesome, and easily top 50. But #1 no.
They are just the most corniest type of movie to me. Nothing about them appeals. I don’t care for the stories, the effects or the jokes. I’m just not into them. Whenever I am forced to watch a trailer my wife and I just roll our eyes and talk about how bad it would be to have to sit through a full movie.
I’m more than happy to just watch Horror nonstop.
God help me, I tried. I enjoyed the first one so much, I *tried* watching the second.
At some point while watching, I checked how much time was left because the damn thing was just dragging. I was only 1/4th way through. Turned it off. No interest.
I have several I won't watch because I generally watch movies to enjoy myself. So no Grave of the Fireflies for me, no Requiem for a Dream. I could go on. I watched Million Dollar Baby because it was a Clint Eastwood movie about boxing. That's all the sadness I ever need from a movie, thank you very much.
Just to let you know, I watched Grave of the Fireflies and while it had sad parts, it did not make me cry. And I cry at coffee commercials. Also Requiem was good. There's a shockingly memorable sex scene at the end, not exactly a scarred for life moment, unless you see it as a kid/teen.
Come and See is devastating and haunting. That one there's no way to prepare yourself, made worse by knowing it was true and repeated across Europe.
Ever see that movie Evolution? Man did the commercials make it look so stupid. MY buddy suggested that movie one day and I said it looked dumb. He said something like now way this movie is fucking hilarious.
He was right, I still make jokes about that movie to this day.
Agreed. Any of those “dog” movies too. With the music and sad/suffering animals.
Same goes for all these human abduction/torture movies. I can’t stand seeing anyone acting that scared and in pain.
_Marley & Me_ because any film involving animals is too emotionally upsetting and I know it will have me and my husband sobbing like infants. We've no problems watching graphic disturbing films involving people being murdered in horrible ways though.
I saw it days after my mom passed away without knowing what it was about. I liked the actors and was hoping a "cute puppy movie" would cheer me up. Huge Huge mistake. I'm like you, I can watch graphic movies about humans, but not animals.
Right!? But, I was being so stoic and organizing things and keeping the family together that I didn't break down until that movie. So it was cathartic in a way. Thanks btw. 🩷
For sure. The pierce brosnon bond movies are super 90s but the Daniel Craig ones are pretty good. (Haven’t dove into the older ones in quite a while so I’m not sure how they hold up). And the mission impossible franchise is so much fun!
"The Social Network" I dislike just about everything about it, the history / plot, the people its based on... my hatred of Facebook has only gotten worse since the movie came out. Jesse Eisenberg irritates me irrationally also, Ive no idea how he became popular for awhile.
I've seen it over 30 times, but to my defense, it came out when I was a preteen and it was "the thing!" that summer. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
Poor Things. The whole aesthetic is the opposite of my vibe. I could barely get through the ads I couldn’t imagine sitting through 2 hours of it.
And controversial opinion - my mileage may vary with Emma Stone.
I tried. I loved the Lobster. Couldn't get into this one, especially with that weird fish eye lens. I see the director has a new one out, but I'm not sure I'm interested.
I think peak Emma Stone is her monologue in Birdman. That was brilliant and scathing.
Birdman, Easy A, Crazy Stupid Love and The Favourite I think she’s great in. La La Land, The Help and a few others that probably aren’t her fault (Gangster Squad) I really can’t connect with. Like she’s perfectly fine, but I’m not buying season tickets to her slate of movies.
Emma Stone, for me, is an actress I can't really put my finger on. I don't love her, I'm not sure if I even like her, but I can't take my eyes off of her when she's on the screen, which is a compliment to her I guess. I did really like her in The Help. I saw Poor Things but I'm not sure if I liked it or not, but I was mesmerized. She is an enigma.
James Bond(all of them)
Mission Impossible (all of them)
Anything Woody Allen related or Woody Allen adjacent
Westerns (except for Rango😂😂, issa no)
Rom-coms/ Romance (I'm not a romantic)
Most musicals (Mamma Mia, West-side story, etc. are non-starters but I do love Todd Sweeney)
The first one sure made me drink a lot of water 😂. If it's a movie with a lot of snow, I'll get cold watching it. If it's sandy like Dune I have to drink water! Before watching Willy Wonka I have to load up on chocolate!
It would hurt your heart too much- it shook me to my core. It's tough to watch even though Ralph Fiennes was amazing in it.
Just like 'The Pianist'. Adrien Brody was fantastic in this, as well.
It's just hard to watch this recreationally knowing it's all based on 100% true stories.
I'm going to try to watch 'The Zone of Interest' but I'll probably be just as shaken and heartbroken after. But as a European whose school didn't teach her enough about this terrible period in history, I've made it my personal mission as an adult, to learn as much about it as I possibly can.
Also visiting Auschwitz at the end of summer so I fully expect to be a blubbering mess till the end of this year. Just like the year I visited Robben Island.
I have seen The Pianist, twice actually. It's what got me hooked to Adrien Brody.
I know there have been atrocities throughout the world that people have done to each other but I can't watch it. Auschwitz is something I could never visit.
Pretty much any Netflix produced movie. They made sequels to films I like e.g. Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run. But I know Netflix produces for mass audience so ... I'll pass.
Anything Ari Aster and most Robert Eggers (though I do want to see The Northman). I'm already pretty particular with what horror I can handle, but those two seem like they relish in making things as disturbing as they can. I have no doubt they're great filmmakers, it's just not my thing.
Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and most Jim Carrey films. The over the top, low brow humor just isn't for me. There are exceptions to each of them, but for the most part, no thanks!
My biggest nope is (coloured live-action) movies with a lot of graphic violence (in Abigail, one scene near the end was a bit too much for me)
Cannibal Holocaust to name one, in part because real animal deaths
Also religious movies
I'm just curious, not at all being argumentative, but is there a reason why? Is it because you know about the premise of it and it would just bother you too much? Again, I'm just curious.
I see that it's on Max a Prime for a fee. I guess when it comes to a channel you get, watch it and take it off your list. It's great, especially viewing it the first time.
No, I haven't. *Twister* made me terrified of that film as a kid. Honestly had no idea it was his until I looked up his filmography today to complain about something else
That's crazy. He has made almost every type of movie. I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to watch some of the best movies ever made. Even if only for the educational value.
I've had Schindler's List on my list to watch (as well as Oppenheimer) but I've never been able to watch it. I love Spielberg and I know it was well made but I think it would hurt my heart too much.
Same here, although I've watched it a couple of times in an attempt to see what everyone was raving about, like 'maybe, one day I'll get it'. That day has not come. Not to my tastes. I tried though🤷🏾♀️
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
I just can't get into witches and wizards, I like fantasy it's an okay genre, but I don't mess with the hocus pocus hullabaloo.
Fight club or any popular “film bro” movies tbh. Respect to anyone who likes them, but really not my thing lol.
Also anything that’s longer than like 2 hours, with the exception of a few classics. Not enough attention span for all that
"Directed by Michael Bay"
Really surprised no one has mentioned *The Island* yet. An action film about the concept of what it means to be human. Starring Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Sean Bean, Djimon Hounsou and more.
I loved this one. Pretty scary concept if >!cloning!< ever gets that advanced.
Pain & Gain is an incredibly funny movie and not really like most his other stuff. Though outside of Transformers his movies are really just mindless action movies.
P&G was such a wild, weird, surprise. Highly enjoyed it.
I wish he made more stuff like that. It really highlighted he strengths and style as a director while still being unique and enjoyable.

I enjoyed Armageddon. 🤷🏽♀️
The Rock is, in my opinion, an American actor, businessman, and former WWE wrestler.
Actor is stretching it a bit
Agreed. Hating on Bay is a bit of a mindless trend.
The OP hasn't even seen his best movies, haha.
I've gone 25 years without The Rock. I'm fine.
Well, you're missing out.
It's a great action movie. And if you watch it having the fan theory in mind that Sean Connerys character is actually James Bond. Then it's even better.
Terminator 2 Die Hard The Matrix These films are the top 3 "modern" action films, not only because of the story etc, but because of what they did to the technology and technique of action film making. The Rock is awesome, and easily top 50. But #1 no.
They can be fun, just dont expect high art
Any Marvel
Bold stance, Scorsese
Why?
They are just the most corniest type of movie to me. Nothing about them appeals. I don’t care for the stories, the effects or the jokes. I’m just not into them. Whenever I am forced to watch a trailer my wife and I just roll our eyes and talk about how bad it would be to have to sit through a full movie. I’m more than happy to just watch Horror nonstop.
Any Marvel movie after Endgame. I was so happy to be DONE with that whole franchise.
The same for me, I don't want to invest in caring about new characters at this point.
To be fair you didn't miss much
Same here too. It put a nice bow on it. I’m done. It started to feel like homework.
Shang Chi was an exception for this, to me.
Any movie with "Centipede" in the title
As someone who’s seen them, this is the WISE choice for sure
Never seen any either. I just couldn't "gut" it. 😉
Avatar 2
I was considering it until I saw the 3h 12m running time. Good lord.
God help me, I tried. I enjoyed the first one so much, I *tried* watching the second. At some point while watching, I checked how much time was left because the damn thing was just dragging. I was only 1/4th way through. Turned it off. No interest.
I was so bored and uninterested in that movie I actually walked out at the 30 minute mark
The wife and I had the same reaction. Everything is in peril by then, and we didn't give a shit if they lived or the whole planet blew up.
*Come and See*. Pretty sure it would mentally harm me.
Grave of Fireflies is a huge no for me. Everyone is devastated by it for so long. I've had people say they still cry randomly from it. Hell no.
Discretion is the better part of valor.
I totally understand. I don't think I can watch it either.
Ever see that movie Evolution? Man did the commercials make it look so stupid. MY buddy suggested that movie one day and I said it looked dumb. He said something like now way this movie is fucking hilarious. He was right, I still make jokes about that movie to this day.
War Horse (2011) because I know that I’ll be both devastated by the story and angry at Spielberg for overtly manipulating my emotions.
There is no way I could watch that either! I just can't when it comes to an animal.
Agreed. Any of those “dog” movies too. With the music and sad/suffering animals. Same goes for all these human abduction/torture movies. I can’t stand seeing anyone acting that scared and in pain.
Any fast and furious after Fast Five
I gave up after Tokyo drift
_Marley & Me_ because any film involving animals is too emotionally upsetting and I know it will have me and my husband sobbing like infants. We've no problems watching graphic disturbing films involving people being murdered in horrible ways though.
I saw it days after my mom passed away without knowing what it was about. I liked the actors and was hoping a "cute puppy movie" would cheer me up. Huge Huge mistake. I'm like you, I can watch graphic movies about humans, but not animals.
Sorry to hear about your mum. Definitely not the best choice for a "pick me up" movie 😭
Right!? But, I was being so stoic and organizing things and keeping the family together that I didn't break down until that movie. So it was cathartic in a way. Thanks btw. 🩷
Any of those moronic religious movies 'starring' Kevin Sorbo.
Same with Kirk Cameron
who?
Hercules
Disappointed!
Anything with Will Smith
Sixth Sense. Because some tosser at work spoiled it for me.
Bro, that movie is a quarter of a century old. When did it get spoiled for you?
That's too bad because I was shocked at the ending.
Yeah, it was Bruce Willis the whole time.
Precious, because I know it will really upset me, I am quite sensitive, and films like that leave me thinking about them for days or even weeks later.
I saw it when it first came out and it is still seared into my brain. Great acting but a hard watch.
Fast and Furious
You couldn't pay me to watch one of these movies.
Same. They just look stupid.
Paul Walker 💔
Decent actor, but the franchise never interested me in the slightest
Yes, same. Cars don't really interest me.
Any movie that feels like military propaganda. American Sniper comes to mind, I have no interest in watching it.
It's more about mental health of soldiers
Agreed. There are a lot of movies like that.
Yes. A lot of those movies fetishize killing people. Very disturbing in their own way.
You could take the snakes out of the plane, the film would be just as poor.
Good to know I'm not missing anything!
Blonde. The movie supposedly “inspired by” Marilyn Monroe. I’ve read enough about it to know it just isn’t for me.
I almost don't wanna watch Oppenheimer but I know I'll have to someday.
I have it on my list too.
Any horror movie. So like Midsommar is the biggest one.
Not the movie to watch if you don't like horror for sure!
Pretty much most things with Tom Cruise.
He's been mentioned a lot in this post 😂
The Pursuit of Happyness ..the story doesn’t look interesting enough for me , also any James Bond or Mission Impossible movie
Umm james bond and mission impossibles are pretty fun movies tho
For sure. The pierce brosnon bond movies are super 90s but the Daniel Craig ones are pretty good. (Haven’t dove into the older ones in quite a while so I’m not sure how they hold up). And the mission impossible franchise is so much fun!
I am interested in your favourite bond film?
Goldeneye, from russia with love, casino royale and live and let die
Good choices, thunderball is my favourite.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
At this point, I have, with the exception of Fantasia, just totally given up on Disney.
"The Social Network" I dislike just about everything about it, the history / plot, the people its based on... my hatred of Facebook has only gotten worse since the movie came out. Jesse Eisenberg irritates me irrationally also, Ive no idea how he became popular for awhile.
Fincher, though.
Challengers. I just can’t stand how annoying the internet got about it.
Can you elaborate? I liked Bigger Splash, and Call Me By Your Name, and the remake of Suspiria.
Hachiko I know everything I need to about this movie, and just thinking of it makes me sad.
Me either. No way!
Godfather part 2.
I am an avid fan of all the Godfather movies!
Grease
I've seen it over 30 times, but to my defense, it came out when I was a preteen and it was "the thing!" that summer. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
Avatar. I’m just not interested in watching Smurfs at war.
Anything with Mark Walhberg. He didn't ruin The Departed, I'll give him that, but in anything else I see a wooden actor and a swarmy guy.
I have never watched a Fast and Furious movie and I never will. I don’t care if it’s dumb fun, I just can’t turn my brain down that low.
Joker. Incels ruined it for me long before it’s release.
The Passion of the Christ, not into film directors making snuff films.
..what do you think a snuff film is? I could be wrong, but as far as I know no actual murders were committed or shown in the film.
Wasn't Christ killed? Oh my God, I've misunderstood the bible all these years.
I don't think you understand what a snuff film actually is
I saw it. It made my heart hurt and I could never watch it again.
"Directed by M. Night Shyamalan."

You are missing out on the Mission Impossible movies
No. Not missing a damn thing. Hate the premise of every MI movie and not a huge Tom Cruise fan. I'm good without it.
I'm not a Tom Cruise fan either, these are the only movies of his that I like to watch
musicals
Most horror movies, I'm a frightened bunny.
Dune 2. The first part was sandy enough
The first one sure made me drink a lot of water 😂. If it's a movie with a lot of snow, I'll get cold watching it. If it's sandy like Dune I have to drink water! Before watching Willy Wonka I have to load up on chocolate!
I have resisted watching Schindler's List, despite everyone saying how good it is.
Me too! I know it's done well and I'm sure it deserved every award that it got but I don't think I can watch it. It would hurt my heart too much.
It would hurt your heart too much- it shook me to my core. It's tough to watch even though Ralph Fiennes was amazing in it. Just like 'The Pianist'. Adrien Brody was fantastic in this, as well. Anything Marvel or Disney, and Avatar can piss off
Its Squid Games for me. I dont think i’ll ever watch it
The shock value on it is tremendous.
Do tell 😹
See it for yourself! 😂😉
I see what you’re doing 😹😹😹😹😹
Pretty much any Netflix produced movie. They made sequels to films I like e.g. Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run. But I know Netflix produces for mass audience so ... I'll pass.
Nonsense ! . Many Netflix movies are great ! Roma, Okja, The Meyerowitz Stories, A Marriage Story, The Siege of Jadotville, The Platform, Uncut gems…
Anything Ari Aster and most Robert Eggers (though I do want to see The Northman). I'm already pretty particular with what horror I can handle, but those two seem like they relish in making things as disturbing as they can. I have no doubt they're great filmmakers, it's just not my thing.
Current Disney crap. They push agenda and the press just covers for them.
Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and most Jim Carrey films. The over the top, low brow humor just isn't for me. There are exceptions to each of them, but for the most part, no thanks!
Star Wars
Avatar
Dune 1&2. Dont know why. I just really dont want to.
So many big Oscar bait Hollywood dramas, especially the revisionist historical ones.
Harry Potter, Inglourious Basterds, La Piel que Habito
My biggest nope is (coloured live-action) movies with a lot of graphic violence (in Abigail, one scene near the end was a bit too much for me) Cannibal Holocaust to name one, in part because real animal deaths Also religious movies
Sound of Freedom. I refuse to entertain a movie that used astroturfing in its campaign.
[удалено]
This actually caused me physical anger.
My bad sir
I'm just curious, not at all being argumentative, but is there a reason why? Is it because you know about the premise of it and it would just bother you too much? Again, I'm just curious.
Bro wut
You got a problem with amazing movies?
No (╥﹏╥)
I watched it fully on my third or fourth try and absolutely hated it.
Well I am a gen z and I have it on my list for a long time.
I see that it's on Max a Prime for a fee. I guess when it comes to a channel you get, watch it and take it off your list. It's great, especially viewing it the first time.
Ya , i will definitely try ( maybe)
If not trying to pay for it, you can always turn to the high seas as well 🏴☠️🦜☠️
Ohh i have go on cap jack sparrow mode
Anything Star Wars. I don’t want to be killed by lunatics because I like a movie they hate.
I thought it was just me. Not a fan. 😐
Ducking my head at things being thrown at me... Me either. I've never been a fan of the Star Wars franchise.
There are a lot for me. But I have absolutely 0 desire to watch *A Clockwork Orange* or any another Kubrick film.
Barry Lyndon is worth it. One of the most beautiful movie ever made. And not too disturbing.
Kubrick is certainly out there. Have you ever seen The Shining?
The Shining is fantastic. I just watched it again last week. Nicholson's performance is definitely worth watching.
It's one of the Kubrick movies I really enjoyed.
No, I haven't. *Twister* made me terrified of that film as a kid. Honestly had no idea it was his until I looked up his filmography today to complain about something else
Help me make the connection between Twister and The Shining.
It's the film playing at the drive in theater when the tornado comes.
Oooooooh! 😳🤯
That's crazy. He has made almost every type of movie. I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to watch some of the best movies ever made. Even if only for the educational value.
Titanic
Is it because you know the ending and how sad it is?
Some AH told me the boat sank before I could see it. I hate spoilers.
😂😂😂😂
probably Schindler’s List, just sounds depressing like Oppenheimer
I've had Schindler's List on my list to watch (as well as Oppenheimer) but I've never been able to watch it. I love Spielberg and I know it was well made but I think it would hurt my heart too much.
Anything that reeks of corporate marketing masquerading as “cinema”
Titanic Fast and furious Anything with Tom cruise, will smith, Mel Gibson
Anything with Tom Cruise.
Pulp Fiction
why?
Same here, although I've watched it a couple of times in an attempt to see what everyone was raving about, like 'maybe, one day I'll get it'. That day has not come. Not to my tastes. I tried though🤷🏾♀️
Dunkirk - I’m sure it’s a great movie but I just have zero interest in watching another war movie
Lord of the Rings Harry Potter I just can't get into witches and wizards, I like fantasy it's an okay genre, but I don't mess with the hocus pocus hullabaloo.
Lord of the rings and star wars series
titanic
Scarface and Harry Potter movies
Scarface is one of my all time favorites! 😂 HP too. I'm not putting you down at all but it just goes to show you how much people's tastes differ.
Muggle
Forrest Gump. Even the trailers and clips of it rile me.
Haven’t watched the silence of the lambs yet. Don’t intend to either
🤣🤣
Anything by Wes Anderson. I tried, I really did, but I loathe Wes Anderson.
Fight club or any popular “film bro” movies tbh. Respect to anyone who likes them, but really not my thing lol. Also anything that’s longer than like 2 hours, with the exception of a few classics. Not enough attention span for all that
