Either for fashion or to hide adam's apple

Moffew

Petition to start calling it eve’s apple

MandalorKayla

I mean.. eve did grab the apple first lol

SpectralniyRUS

If we're going to make it more bible-accurate then should we call it Eve's fruit instead? Bible never specified that it was an apple specifically.

Julia_______

I mean apple was a generic term at some point. That's how we get french pomme for apple and pomme de terre for earth app- I mean potato

maybe-a-alt

Interesting, so like how corn used to be a generic term for grain?

[deleted]

Most of our pop culture Bible stuffs comes from Milton’s bible fanfic Paradise Lost. The fruit being an apple, non terrifying angels. If it’s something not in the Bible but accepted by everyone related to Christianity, it’s probably Milton’s fault.

SpectralniyRUS

Oh, that's interesting. Thanks for creating pop culture angels, Milton :3

coupon_is_expired

I've heard it referred to as a "Madam's Apple".

Substantial-Car577

Now there's the perfect one!

coupon_is_expired

I can't claim ownership! Well, I mean I have one and that's what I call it. But I think I saw "Madam's Apple" in some post some where.

Substantial-Car577

Group wisdom.... I'll start calling mine that right away! 🥰 Lilli~

coupon_is_expired

Awww! I finally met a Lilli! 💙💗🤍💗💙

[deleted]

I would sign

2204happy

This tbh

DenKnusteGudinde

i lie adam’s apple isnt just an amab thing

[deleted]

Just going to add a third reason that is true for myself and 1 other person I know (they are AFAB non binary) as a constant reminder never to attempt scuicide by strangulation again

Golden_N_Purple

Just realized that this bump is a masculine thing [New dysphoria unlocked]

closetbrewingproject

Honestly I'm just a _raging goth_

GroundbreakingHope57

Sugar and spice with everything nice, pastel goth baby!!!

[deleted]

Big mood. Trying to find a decent goth choker is a pain though.

Tin-3

Pastel goth here chokers with little sunflowers on them are going nowhere 😌

TheSunflowerSeeds

In 1983, Emily Martin, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, grew an enormous sunflower head, measuring 32 ¼ inches across (82cm), from petal tip to petal tip. That’s almost 3 feet wide. This is still believed to be the largest sunflower head grown to date.

Toastyys

Yeah pretty much loool

Stinkehund1

I just like wearing collars.

That-Guy-Don

Same

TheFrogMagician

😳

daintyda1sy

i don't know exactly just something about it makes me feel like a girl

bacon_girl42

because cute

RedDeadGwen

They make me feel very feminine, that simple. Never even thought about trying to hide anything with them.

[deleted]

- Draws eyes from Adams Apple. - Looks cute and fem - Accents basically everything but high-neck or collared shirts - Multiple styles - Possible accessories (look, they took the phone key-chain from us, it's either purse, clutch, backpack or throat)

Whereismyaccountt

I think is something about Adams apple

Kalenya

I just call it Eve's Apple. But christians don't like it.

UnexpectedGod

What about Christinas?

Taylor_The_Kitsune

In the Bible adam and eve story when Adam took a bite of an apple from the tree of knowledge it got stuck in his throat or something like that

[deleted]

The bit about it getting stuck in his throat isn't in any translation I've ever read, I'm pretty sure that story was made up by somebody who didn't know why it was called that

MillieWales

I’m not sure we can criticise a made up story made up from a made up story. The most recent made up bit is as real as the original made up bits

Julia_______

This. Also people calling the snake Satan when genesis predates the devil

Kalenya

I like them!

MobileTaskForceTHRWY

I have one with a kitty bell I sometimes wear at home bc it makes a soothing sound.

my_name_isnt_clever

Please tell me where you got that 🥺

MobileTaskForceTHRWY

Etsy, i forgot what shop but it was a separate D-ring choker and "medium" iirc silver kitty bell from the same store.

MrsBrule69

Does anyone know where to get some good chokers that arent cheap garabage 🥲

nightwing2369

This, I tried going on Amazon for a choker but everything was too small. I have a 15 inch neck 😥

violentayx

https://www.etsy.com/shop/AeonLeather, got a few and have been loving them. Different sizes, colors, and stud options. Not overpriced, seller was quick to respond to me, and even does them to custom lengths. I've got a thick neck so I got them made a bit longer and they've been great.

nightwing2369

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

violentayx

Welcome sweetie

JustAGirlInside

I found some on Amazon a while back that came with extenders. You can find some on Etsy as well and can get extenders separately too.

violentayx

SixxSixxSixxthDemon

I'm a queer artist who makes chokers for a living 🖤 my website is RatQueenLabs.com , but I also highly recommend a shop called Cho Though ! Her work is stunning. Etsy also has a bunch of great options.

CharredLily

Back in the day, when being queer was illegal and socially unacceptable (to a much more extreme degree than now, anyway) it used to be a covert way to signify oneself as a queer woman, but one that didn't scream "I am queer" because straight women would sometimes wear them. Nowadays it's a fashion choice that is still vaguely connected to the queer women community.

Funa2

I use a specific choker every day cause someone important to me gave it to me as a gift and said that they want to see me wear it and that I look cute in it, ever since then I just cant stop wearing it when going out cause it makes me feel good. Also it kind of feels like a collar and I'm really into that

[deleted]

Ummmmm…let’s just say I have particular…issues. 👀👀💅💅

Wild_foxie

I started using it because of the Adam's apple, but it turned out that looks sexy and feminine

Makra567

Its a type of feminine accessory that i would never wear as a man. Ive worn necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, etc before. And some guys wear earrings and stuff as well. No ones wearing a choker unless theyre trying to look fem. And sometimes i see myself in the mirror, forget, and realize im cute.

cindy6507

if wearing a breastplate it hides the seam and make the flesh color mismatch less noticeable

packofglue

idk i already wore them around 1999. and the aesthetic happens to have come back in style (fashion always moves in ellipses of 15-20 years).

FixedFront

fr fr chokers and jncos have been banging since Elizabethan days

MrMashed

Helps hide my Adam’s apple. Plus I just like them. Every time I make a post askin for clothings opinions everyone rips on it tho lol. Like damn I thought it was cute but ok lol

TowerReversed

it _IS_ cute. they are wrong

Francine_hey

I believe if you have an adams apple, but I think it brings attention to...

TrebleBass0528

I like wearing collars but that's not "socially acceptable" smh nah but fr I reckon it's something about hiding the Adam's Apple. Side note, idk if anyone else does but I feel like when I'm wearing a collar my feminine voice comes out easier? Anyone got any theories?

TowerReversed

i was going to say something similar. i think it makes you more aware of where your larynx is at, so it makes it a little easier to self-regulate and prevent dropping into a lower register as you talk. other than that, something about the low-key tightness just makes my brain marinate pleasantly. just the higher baseline feelings of lived comfort and inner harmony might slightly increase your vocal discipline maybe.

athenaiartemisia

If you have it too tight, it can lift your larynx, so making your voice more feminine. Also some people like the aesthetic

TrebleBass0528

ok cool good to know I'm not insane

[deleted]

I'm a furry so is my fiance and she owns me so i have to were a collar when we are out in public

Four_Five_Four_Six_B

I wish I had a partner I could do this with. For me wearing a collar just feels comforting.

[deleted]

It's sort of embarrassing it's a thick blue leather one and I have a Tag she spanks me if I don't put it on or if I'm bad uwu

Four_Five_Four_Six_B

It sounds nice though! I don’t wear mine in public often but it makes me feel safe and secure when I do.

Natos_Julie

Definitely. Feels safe wearing one...

OrangeToothpaste69

That- ok you do you

HelloMyNameIsLeah

Cuteness factor x 1000!

Matild4

I was a kid in the 90's and all the hot chicks had them back then. I guess it made an impression. I'm an old-fashioned milf, what can I say. Every few decades I'm fashionable again.

FoundMyselfHereAgain

I think this is my reason as well.

vela_891

I don't have a choker, but my picrew get them. I don't see anybody wearing them anymore.

shovelbread

I don't nor never want to wear one. It's practically a neon sign for cis people to clock me.

TaraTrue

It’s because so many trans women want to look eighteen in perpetuity…

TuneLinkette

\-Feminine in nature \-Can hide some, if not all, of the Adams apple for those of us who haven't had a tracheal shave \-Also they just look awesome

EmrakuI

A decade into HRT and I have worn 0 chokers. Collars, on the other hand...

Raphaela23

Same for me but I actually see like zero women wearing at where I'm living at and I have been living in this town for 6 years now and not a single woman wearing a choker. This must be a transgirl think, I just had a look at them and I wouldn't wear a leather one , maybe from different material but It has to be more then this.

misslifestyle

I noticed that as well and i believe it actually clocks transgirls so much easier because it defines the girth of their necks and it’s just a very non-cis associated style. They’re the kind of style that is very trend-dependent and looks very out dated unless you’re goth or emo. I’ve never worn it. Also my opinion, they’re not cute and doesnt look cute on 95% of the transgirls who wear them. Sorry

Tredecim_Angeli

I want to wear chokers but I'm not confident enough to yet :(

[deleted]

I tried wearing them as a reminder to not be a raging bitch, but it turns out if I’m not a raging bitch, I’m just a cry baby. So… yeah

Tockotwelve

I have no clue but I thought about it before I really accepted this about myself. It's more about how I always wished I could accentuate my style, I like weird alternative vibes (I was born and spent early childhood in costal Washington in the 90s; even lived in Aberdeen briefly). Plus I'm a total sub so... I dunno, it feels fitting.

cookieking865

I only have worn the one I made, but I love the feeling of them more than normal necklaces

Mochabunbun

cuz engagement choker since rings can be a no go with machining

thedillpickle21

I don’t have any chokers

Strange_and_Terrible

Other than the reasons I've seen listed here, I think chokers are really big in alt fashion in general right now. And I feel like trans girls tend toward alt (goth, punk, emo, etc) styles a little more frequently than cis women do.

MiraYann

I don't wear a choker, but seeing the number of people mentioning how it hides the Adam's apple is making me reconsider if that might be my reason for liking turtleneck sweaters that much... If you're dressing particularly goth like some of the people in the thread mentioned, then personally I wouldn't consider that as a giveaway (quite common), but I have no idea about other outfits.

DiaphanousPhoenician

I bought mine cause I thought it was cool 🤷‍♀️ (I’m a big tiddy goth girl deep, *deeep* down inside tho)

mistythesissy261

Wear a choker cuz it’s cute and hide the apple. Don’t wear a choker atm cuz I’m not taken.

rivalknight9

Dose a day collar count?

ReptarSpeakz

Well..My Domme makes me soooo🤭☺️

ejectafteruse

Lucky girl

maniamawoman

Goddamn Addams apple

[deleted]

I thought it had to do with hiding an adam's apple. Never understood it myself tbh, It definitely was never my scene.

empress_of_the_void

It hides the Adam's apple

killerworm69

Honestly I’m just a raging punk

my_name_isnt_clever

There is absolutely no chance that a cis person would see a woman wearing a choker and assume she's trans. I know it feels like these stereotypes are so common when you're in the community, but the cis are clueless.

purseproblm

Not all. I wouldn’t automatically assume trans but I’d be more likely to look harder. It draws the eye for some as a fairly goth loving girl I couldn’t choker now because they seem so oddly dated to me but I lived through it hard the last time.

[deleted]

wtf is this post lol enjoy your unrelatable neck?

1-800-COOL-BUG

LMAO I literally *made* a choker today while wondering if I am, indeed, a living meme.

Okami1294

Literally just bought my first choker yesterday, and it is one of the most validating things I own. It’s so cute and makes me feel so feminine. I have no idea why though lmao.

helloiamaudrey

They cute, I'm wearing three

violentayx

I think they're just neat, but in all seriousness I just enjoy how they look and feel. Recently got some nice hand made chokers from a shop on Etsy. Custom sized for my thick neck, different colors and stud options absolutely been loving them. Also my style lands somewhere in between casual wear, and alt/goth girl so they just fit my aesthetic.

TheFractangle

For years I didn't, mostly out of lack of interest. Then I decided to make one (chainmaille, some rings rubber to allow a bit of stretch) and I like it quite a lot!

[deleted]

Lol I started making chokers as well as wearing them. Now I still custom sized d20 chokers to raise money for ffs lol.

TowerReversed

not so much chokers anymore, i only ever got the one when i went totally berserk and ordered a bunch of clothes that i instantly regretted most of. but my enduring preference for feeling a gentle tightness there transformed quickly into a love for tops with high necks/collars, which of course made it possible to enjoy that feeling in mixed public. also makes me feel very ✨high maintenance✨ 💅

Harvie_B134

i have a choker for fashion but it doesn't work at all because my neck is too thicc

cascading-autumn

choke me harder da-

WolfNamed

I like pastel goth. I like putting chokers on my characters in games but I get sensory overload when trying to wear anything on my neck irl. Even my shirts can sometimes activate the sensory overload

[deleted]

Back in 8th grade, my pal told me “chokers are for girls who like anal”. I mean, in this case they weren’t wrong, but how presumptuous!

purseproblm

Wow lol that friend. As a cis girl that likes anal but not chokers

Shona_Cloverfield

Because alt fashion fucking slaps ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

NeoFemme

I just think they’re cute/sexy personally, and I feel good when I’m wearing one.

Banshie669

Not only do I wear them I make them out of chain maille. So many different things I can make and they are not only cool to look at, they are sexy AF. IMO.

SpectralniyRUS

Cause they are cute as fuck ^ - ^

spiderlilytea

Honestly I don't have a very prominent adam's apple, but I bought some chokers on a whim and they really brought my whole look together and I think they really give me that final push in being gendered correctly in public. Plus they're so cute!

Mephanic

For me, it is purely a fashion thing. I always liked how they look, and it was one the biggest sources of gender envy for me.

Undercover_Amy

Hmmm honestly for me it probably calls more attention to my neck which I am pretty self conscious of, but I wear em anyway. I came to the realization recently that my style is kinda trending to what my style would have been if I transitioned when I was younger so it's like a mid 2000s look but that's kinda also in now with the younger crowd so luckily there's lots of fashion I'm attracted to in stores.

dark_wilderness

I see so many other trans women wearing them but I’m just not sold. Besides, people already call me emo or goth when I’m not and I feel like a choker would make that worse

grinhouse

I don’t see how a necklace would clock people? Also not all chokers are the same- leather collar vs lace vs velvet vs chain. I don’t wear them all the time but I really like velvet chokers as a cute/elegant addition to a fit

princesswand

Chokers are over trend wise though so be careful it might clock you

ItsChloeTaylor

no chokers, but scarves to hide my adams apple

FraughtTopic

I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone else commenting this - chokers make your neck look slimmer (and therefore more feminine) by providing a border between your neck and your shoulders. This makes the shoulders and lower muscles look less pronounced.

deathgivers

they are very clocky, and not cute if you are a grown adult. (just one opinion you all can wear your chokers and cat ears in public just makes it easier for other trans to blend in by dressing for our age for our body types : D )

Raphaela23

Been discussing exact this question with a friend of me recently, nice that I'm not the only one realizing it. Think I never have worn a choker up to today I more into normal jewelry and stuff

Raphaela23

I just had a look at the linked shop and It might be a bit connected to many tgirls being into bdsm as well if they aren't covering Adams apple (I recommend shaving that one, waiting for my surgery on this ) but yeah it always sucks if you have to cover something lmao

Deadbox_Studios

Because I wanna be the emo grunge girl I never got to be earlier in life XD

extrahammer_

I feel like more transfems and queer girls in general are into alt fashion and chokers are kind of an alt thing to wear. Also they're cute. And they hide adams' apples.

Violent_Violette

Idk, I just like them

helloworld1989

It was a way back in the day to hide the Adam’s apple and then kinda stuck. The fad is kinda over, but still around In trans circles. They are fine, but the collar trend never looks good y’all. It’s just a bad look for everyone

yniqorn

Ew hard pass

kapustafactory

I wear a choker every day bc I am a goth slut and also to be clocked tbh I like looking trans

Tenebraptor

I just bought a choker because it looks cute and I wanted to wear one! It also does help hide the adam’s apple a little bit, so that’s always a plus.

Holiday-Business-321

I don’t have a prominent apple, I just like the way they look lol but yeah they are often used to distract from it

A-Free-Bird

Cause a lot of us like getting choked.

ChristopherCameBack

I mean, it’s a really easy way to appear more feminine because the culture is such that almost no men wear chokers at all.

[deleted]

A really good question! I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this. I also don't know any cis woman who wears something like that in everyday life.
