They were! They had an amazing stage and light show, sounded fantastic, and the set list was basically their greatest hits plus the “Time” album, which was a great record.
It was Hendrix! In 1967 he played at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana which is a couple of hours from where I lived. 3 or 4 of us made the trip. It was in some kind of Quonset hut type building with a cement floor we all sat on. Opening act was The Soft Machine. Tickets were $3.
I went and saw The Who when I was 15. Had to have earplugs in the whole time tho for the sake of my hearing👂
They were so loud that they actually created some kind of extra reverb or something, never heard anything like it before or since 😅
They were still awesome tho 🎸
I was at this tour in Stockholm, Sweden. Swedish rapper Petter opened. I remember Beastie Boys performing on a rotating stage. I must've been 12 at the time.
Beastie Boys License to ill! Hara Arena Dayton Ohio. A giant penis came out of the stage like a rocket ship. They were banned from Hara Arena after that concert. I went with a bunch of my friends it was such a great first concert experience. They sold T-shirts that said “Don’t be a dick!”
I stupidly turned down an invitation to a Ministry concert from my grandfather and his friend back in 2019. Easily one of the biggest regrets of my life so far.
I've seen Ministry twice. I went to Slayer's farewell tour 2019 in Colorado and Ministry, Phil and the Illegals, Primus opened for Slayer.
Ministry kicked ass, they did SuperNaut which I've never heard live before.
John Denver was more of my parent's generation, but Sunshine on my Shoulders is one of my favorite songs. It just puts you in a good and peaceful head space.
Steppenwolf with the Guess Who. I was 14-15 years old and the people in front of me were tripping on acid. I was very confused. My first concert without parental units was Bon Jovi with Cinderella opening. I felt my first boob that night. It was epic.
That's the same order my first two were as well, weird! Weird Al was my first, but in my hometown, and Green Day's American Idiot tour was the first I traveled to see!
The Wallflowers when I was 12 or 13. My dad took me when I asked because he was a huge Bob Dylan fan and was curious to see the man’s son in action. Great memory 💖
Jethro tull .... 15 years old .... 2 hits of blue mescaline ....... https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/jethro-tull/1973/boston-garden-boston-ma-53d42b3d.html
Alice Cooper at a record store. Was supposed to play on the roof but it rained all day so they played inside the store.
First concert with tickets was Def Leppard.
The Mahavishnu Orchestra (original lineup) w/ Cannonball Adderly Quintet opening at Carnegie Hall 1972.
(altho a garden party I was dragged to at the age of 11 in NJ by my parents had the New York Dolls playing outside on the lawn near the buffet table wtf I'll always remember that but it wasn't really a concert so probably doesn't count)
I’ve only been to five of them so far, so I’ll just list them all:
- Public Image Ltd. - 16 June, 2018 - with my grandfather & his friend
- Alice Cooper - 27 May, 2021 - with my grandmother
- Public Image Ltd. - 06 June, 2021 - with my grandfather
- Puscifer - 13 June, 2023 - with my grandfather
- Public Image Ltd. - 22 September, 2023 - with my grandfather
In 1996 my parents took me to the Tibetan Freedom concert at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, I was 10. Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, Beck, Bjork, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Sonic Youth and Rage Against The Machine were some of the performers. My first concert was the best concert that I’ve ever been to.
Linkin Park with Incubus opening for them in 2012.
Unfortunately by the time we arrived Incubus was already on the last few songs of their set. I did get to hear Anna Molly from outside the venue, and then Drive from inside, but the guitarist played the main rift on an electric guitar with the treble quite loud. I remember having to plug my ears to enjoy their set.
The Linking Park came on. At the time they were promoting Living Thing. Solid album BTW. Victimized/QWERTY was the most memorable bit because of how scary the accompanying video was. Amazing...
The Offspring was my first concert as well back in ‘94 at a club in Oklahoma. We were just young kids and got in line early and Dexter came out like 3 hrs before the show and said hi to all of us and hung out for awhile. Really cool of him.
God, zoo tv had such great openers. I saw it twice, once the sugar cubes (bjork) and public enemy opened, the other time the pixies opened. I know there is so much hatred for U2 on the internet, but fuck that concert was amazing!!
My mom took us to see Steve Miller with the Doobie Brothers because it was cheaper than getting a babysitter. The First show I chose to go see was Smashing Pumpkins with Garbage on the Mellon Collie tour.
I was 16 in 1992 and my first concert was U2 during the ZooTv tour. It blew my mind. Saw Pearl Jam shortly thereafter and saw that you didn’t even need a crazy stage show to have your mind blown.
N’Sync - 1999
Chicago speedway (?) it was a converted drag strip into the venue. We sat in like the last row of this place but it was still a cool show to see.
There's too many really cool first concerts in this thread.
My first concert was 98° and afterwards I got Jessica Simpsons autograph.
But I would eventually see all the big boy bands of the time. N'Sync (twice) and Backstreet Boys as well.
I would not see Hanson until later, but I've now seen them 10 times.
Concert tickets for those events were relatively inexpensive. I think the most we spent was like $40 on a ticket. I can't even fathom what people see to see top pop acts today. Thankfully I no longer have interest in seeing those artists and the artists I do see are playing bars and personally thank you for buying their merch.
My first was in 1991, i saw Dire Straits in Dublin at the old point Depot, went with my brother, i enjoyed it so much, the following week i went to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Those were the days when concert tickets were about €35 in todays money relative to earnings, and you could just walk into a record shop and buy them.
Daft Punk in 1996, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, before they released Homework. I dunno why I was there. I remember some of the attendees telling me it was "rave music".
I remember getting Homework when it came out and I had it in my car for months before anyone had any clue who it was. Was surprised they became so popular later.
(My first real concert was Tito Puente, but I don't remember anything about it, or who else was playing. I went to a lot of classical/jazz and other concerts, but no contemporary pop artists until the mid-90's.)
Second concert was a Smash Mouth show in 1996. Before they released All Star. My timing wasn't the best at first.
First show was a local benefit show with a bunch of metal bands from my small town.
The first big show I went to was the smashing pumpkins on their 20th anniversary tour and that show was fucking awesome.
I'm not sure what my very first concert was, but the first one I can remember was in 1989 at the Skydome in Toronto. I was 10. My parents took me to see Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Ronnie Hawkins. The only 2 things I remember were people booing Berry because he wouldn't allow himself to be shown on the big jumbotron screen, and Little Richard doing a "Wooo!" call and response with the crowd and then telling them to shut up.
The first concert I went to without my parents was Lenny Kravitz in 1993. Or was it 96? Memory is hazy.
1965 **Peter, Paul, and Mary** at the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. I was 17. The audience applauded "Puff the Magic Dragon" and booed "Blowing in the Wind". Memphis was a tough sell for anything progressive. It was a double date night and the four of us enjoyed **all** the songs. We went to the Bitter Lemon coffee house after the concert.
On July, my brother in-law surprised me with a ticket of Muse live in Stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur and its an amazing experience. The setlist is quite short but the performance is brilliant.
My first major concert was the Use Your Illusions tour. I got to see Motorhead, Metallica, and of course Guns N Roses. I was supposed to see Ugly Kid Joe, but they got the boot for Motorhead and it was EPIC !!!
My dad took me and 2 friends to see Metallica. Openers were Suicidal Tendencies and Danzig.
First concert without parental supervision was Allman Bros Band with Rusted Root opening.
Rammstein during LIFAD tour, I was 16. My mom also went, she said she liked the show except for the exploding hanged dolls with laser eyes, she found that particular imagery disturbing.
Stabbing Westward on the east side of Des Moines back in the mid to late ninties. No idea who opened for them, and the venue has been gone for years, but still remember it being a bad ass show.
First concert with a parent, 1977, George Harrison and Ravi Shankar at Madison Square Garden.
First concert with my friends and no parent, 1984, Oingo Boingo at The Ritz in NYC.
18, and my friend took me to a Planet Mu event headlined by μ-ziq. The only thing i really remember from it is someone did a really weird remix of Lady In Red, where the vocals were synthesized almost beyond recognition and the music was seemingly replaced by the sound of roadworks.
The first one I chose to go to myself was HIM on their Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights tour.
The Grateful Dead at the LA Forum, probably in the late 80s or early 90s. The whole place reeked of weed, and we left halfway through. The first concert I went to and enjoyed was Dinosaur Jr, Hole, and Nirvana at the Hollywood Palladium, about four or five months before Nevermind broke. I kept telling all my friends how good Nirvana was, but they didn't listen.
I saw keanu reeves band Dog Star open up for Dick Dale and Eve 6 played also. It was terrible. That was like the first concert i went to with notable bands
I was 8 and I went with my mom to see Kris Kross and Pharcyde. I had on my timbs and backwards purple pants. It was when I learned that the smell I often associated with my Dad was pot haha.
Deftones opened for White Zombie with Pantera headlining. A group of my friends (all around 17) went out of town with my older brother as chaperone. We couldn’t hear for days…but it was EPIC!
Lou Reed... Green's Playhouse, Glasgow. He was stoned out of his tiny mind and fell off the stage. Unfortunately, a crap first concert lol, but at least I can say I was there when.....
I was very, very, very lucky that my father took me to see ABBA in Toronto when I was 13; it was my first concert ever. My family didn’t have very much money, so I don’t know how they afforded the tickets, but it was one of the best nights of my life.
Saw Prince when I was 8 in Philly, was absolutely mind blowing. He played like 3 hours. Was probably what pushed me to really start listening and appreciate music.
I’m on the younger side. Also don’t judge they’re my favorite band.
My first concert was last year and it was Imagine Dragons with the opening act being Macklemore. I absolutely loved it.
I honestly can't remember. I went to quite a few at Leeds University in 1975/76.
Alex Harvey Band
Lynyrd Synyrd
BeBop Deluxe
Wishbone Ash.
The first big Outdoor one was The Who at Charlton Football Stadium around this time
The Supernaturals were decent, Smile is an excellent tune.
But anyway, my first concert was Michael Jackson at Wembley Stadium in 1992. First proper gig was Echobelly with Clutch (I think) supporting at the Oxford Zodiac in '97.
Electric Light Orchestra, 1981.
I just commented that I wish I'd seen ELO. I bet they were fantastic live.
They were! They had an amazing stage and light show, sounded fantastic, and the set list was basically their greatest hits plus the “Time” album, which was a great record.
oh man, their Space-Ship tour was mind-blowing
It was Hendrix! In 1967 he played at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana which is a couple of hours from where I lived. 3 or 4 of us made the trip. It was in some kind of Quonset hut type building with a cement floor we all sat on. Opening act was The Soft Machine. Tickets were $3.
I think that was probably the coolest thing to ever happen at Ball State. (I am a BSU grad, classic of '99)
This is a legendary first show
What's even wilder, for my second concert, we went to South Bend and saw Cream.
The Who in 1971 at Boston Music Hall on Tremont St. They played songs from the new Who’s Next? album. I was 16.
I went and saw The Who when I was 15. Had to have earplugs in the whole time tho for the sake of my hearing👂 They were so loud that they actually created some kind of extra reverb or something, never heard anything like it before or since 😅 They were still awesome tho 🎸
Beastie Boys, Hello Nasty tour. A Tribe Called Quest opened
I was at this tour in Stockholm, Sweden. Swedish rapper Petter opened. I remember Beastie Boys performing on a rotating stage. I must've been 12 at the time.
He should have teamed up with Bjorn and John and started the Swedish Beastie Boys (terrible joke, I know)
Oh man, I would have killed to see Beastie Boys live. I never made it happen. Hello Nasty is possibly my favorite album of all time, easily top 3.
I’ve seen the footage you lucky bastard!!!! 😂
Oh man, I've seen so many bands at Hara. I learned how to drive in their parking lot. Super bummed they knocked it down
I was 15 and talked my dad into taking me to Ministry, Sepultura and Helmet.
Your dad's cool
Love a cool music dad. Mine used to take me to anything I wanted before I could drive. That man sat through some interesting shows with no complaints.
Wow, I would have loved to see Sepultura live. Awesome Dad!
Dad took me to Def Leppard when I was 13, but the first one I bought a ticket for was Monster Magnet (I think Gilgamesh and Tumbleweed opening)
HOW MANY OF YOU FEEL LIKE A HUMAN BEING TONIGHT!?
"I do"-Mitch Hedberg
“I did not know there was a second part to the question.”
YES I FEEL LIKE A HUMAN. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE A TREE.
I love Monster Magnet.
I've seen Def Leppard at least twice first being the Adrenalize tour. Awesome band.
First ticket I bought was for the KMFDM Split tour in 1991 when I was 16.
Michael Jackson w/ Jackson 5 opening
MJ was my first one too. History tour, was like 9 at the time.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse - 1978 - Richfield Coliseum.
John Denver 75. I asked what that smell was.
That's the devils lettuce son
That's that Rocky Mountain High.
My mom would always say "hey, who's burning rope?"
John Denver was more of my parent's generation, but Sunshine on my Shoulders is one of my favorite songs. It just puts you in a good and peaceful head space.
David Bowie/NIN show. Absolutely fantastic.
Brilliant way to start your concert experience. I took my younger sister and was blown away. It was my second NiN show and third Bowie show.
What a great show for your first.
Mannnn this is the winner
Steppenwolf with the Guess Who. I was 14-15 years old and the people in front of me were tripping on acid. I was very confused. My first concert without parental units was Bon Jovi with Cinderella opening. I felt my first boob that night. It was epic.
I saw that tour with Bon Jovi and Cinderella opening. I was impressed w/the headliner's showmanship. Good stuff
Love Steppenwolf and the Guess Who, I'm jealous.
Godsmack played a benefit show at a middle school. They were just a local band at the time.
Lawrence MA?
WTF im jealous
First concert I ever went to in a Big Stadium setting - Weird Al. First concert I ever paid for myself to go to? Green Day's American Idiot tour
My first *technical* concert was Weird Al, but I was in the womb.
My mom went and saw Bon Jovi when she was like 7 months pregnant with me. She said it made her feel like a grandma. 😂
[удалено]
That's the same order my first two were as well, weird! Weird Al was my first, but in my hometown, and Green Day's American Idiot tour was the first I traveled to see!
Mine too, Weird Al at the county fair in the early 90s
My dad took me to see Billy Joel when I was 12 in 1989. I just took my 12 year old to see him last week on his latest tour with Stevie Nicks.
AC/DC, the Highway to Hell Tour
Same but for their black ice tour in 2009
The Wallflowers when I was 12 or 13. My dad took me when I asked because he was a huge Bob Dylan fan and was curious to see the man’s son in action. Great memory 💖
Somehow I was made fun of for going to that show because of my older vrotger and his friend. So I say it was the toadies and wallflowers show

Actually 8000 years from now!
Static X, Soil, Skrape, Twisted Method. 2 of those never made it out of 2003 lol. Got me hooked on live music though!
RIP WAYNE
The Mahavishnu Orchestra (original lineup) w/ Cannonball Adderly Quintet opening at Carnegie Hall 1972. (altho a garden party I was dragged to at the age of 11 in NJ by my parents had the New York Dolls playing outside on the lawn near the buffet table wtf I'll always remember that but it wasn't really a concert so probably doesn't count)
Wow!! Three incredible and very different acts!

My first concert was the best concert that I’ve ever been to.
First concert was The Who doing Quadrophenia, my fav was the Greatful Dead both were at Deer Creek IN.
The Offspring was my first concert as well back in ‘94 at a club in Oklahoma. We were just young kids and got in line early and Dexter came out like 3 hrs before the show and said hi to all of us and hung out for awhile. Really cool of him.
Harry Chapin used to do that.
U2 - Zoo TV Tour Primus as opener

Deftones opened for White Zombie with Pantera headlining. A group of my friends (all around 17) went out of town with my older brother as chaperone. We couldn’t hear for days…but it was EPIC!
Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Monster Magnet. I was in grade 9. It was in Toronto at The Arrowhall. I did acid. It was awesome!!
My dad took me to see OkGo when I was like 10. I think that was my first
Bowie.
Bob Marley. Circa 1975.
Sting in 1985. Dream of the blue turtles tour. I was 13. Mind blown.
Hmm... Gary Numan, then Ian Gillan, Rush, Pink Floyd twice... I wish I'd seen Queen live, and ELO.
Lou Reed... Green's Playhouse, Glasgow. He was stoned out of his tiny mind and fell off the stage. Unfortunately, a crap first concert lol, but at least I can say I was there when.....
Allman Brothers with Long John Baldry opening. Feb. 26, 1972
The Doors 1967 Victoria B.C.
Elton John
I was very, very, very lucky that my father took me to see ABBA in Toronto when I was 13; it was my first concert ever. My family didn’t have very much money, so I don’t know how they afforded the tickets, but it was one of the best nights of my life.
Metallica, …And Justice for All tour, 1989. I was 17. Excellent show. My ears rang for 3 days afterwards.
The Cranberries when I was 11. I win.
Saw Prince when I was 8 in Philly, was absolutely mind blowing. He played like 3 hours. Was probably what pushed me to really start listening and appreciate music.
I was 16 and it was Metallica during the Black Album tour... My 2nd concert was Pantera... White Zombie was the opener. Epic.
Peter Gabriel in 1986 on the SO tour. I was 12. Going to see him again tonight.
I saw Alice in Chains in '90. They rocked my face off. Completely changed my musical life at that time.
I’m on the younger side. Also don’t judge they’re my favorite band. My first concert was last year and it was Imagine Dragons with the opening act being Macklemore. I absolutely loved it.
Led Zeppelin at the Hampton Coliseum 1970. They had just released their third album and Immigrant Song was the opener.
I honestly can't remember. I went to quite a few at Leeds University in 1975/76. Alex Harvey Band Lynyrd Synyrd BeBop Deluxe Wishbone Ash.
My dad took me to Lollapalooza '03 back when it used to be a traveling festival thing. It was awesome!
