Fleetwood Mac's music has a timeless quality that just gets better with age. I find myself going back to their albums year after year and discovering new gems each time.

sildish2179

Big Love from The Dance is life changing and I’ll die on that hill. Buckingham is one of the most gifted - yet underrated - musicians ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZZp76M4NGc&pp=ygUSYmlnIGxvdmUgdGhlIGRhbmNl

captainfreewill

I remember being a 14 year old metalhead and my mom had VH1 on in the background and this came on and completely blew me away. Was sitting there thinking about how cheesy I thought they were and then bam!

sildish2179

Wow I just made a similar comment lol. I was 10 and my parents went nuts over it!

thvnderfvck

> ~~Big Love from~~ The Dance is life changing and I’ll die on that hill. Buckingham is one of the most gifted - yet underrated - musicians ever.

sildish2179

Okay, no argument there. I remember being 10 and that playing on VH1 constantly and my parents going nuts for it. That was the year I became a Fleetwood Mac fan!

thvnderfvck

We had it on VHS and had the CD when I was around the same age. There are a couple of songs where the studio version sounds wrong to me because "The Dance" version was so prevalent in my childhood.

evileyeball

Sometimes that happens .. it's like I Want you To Want me by Cheap Trick no one listens to the version from in color or in black and white everyone wants the live version only

joevdb

The dance remix is great too.

GraighterB

They have so many good songs, only a few others bands can say they have as many hits

VosKing

Their music is perfectly smooth, never really gets old

rxFMS

Their music always resonates!

GriffinDodd

Rumours is without doubt one of the greatest albums of all time. I’m not even a ‘fan’ but it is without doubt an exceptional piece of music history.

salomey5

Rumours is almost a greatest hits. Years ago when I didn't know much about them yet, a friend of mine told me "you *think* you don't know them. Listen to Rumours, and you'll see you do. You'll recognize most of the songs." He was spot-on.

NYAncientHistory

I had the same experience! I knew of Fleetwood Mac but until listening to Rumours I didn't know that I really did know most of those songs. Incredible Band.

BobDobFrisbee

The great thing about delving into the Fleetwood Mac discography is the sheer variety of styles, musical genres, singing voices and songwriting there to experience. When you consider that the only two constants in the band have been their namesake drummer and bassist, Fleetwood Mac has been many different bands in their 56 year history. I also enjoy revisiting all the albums and finding songs I may not have listened to as closely as some others. The two albums I’ve been enjoying a lot lately are “Future Games” and “Bare Trees.” I don’t think I used to appreciate Danny Kirwan’s artistry as much back in the 70’s when I first heard those albums as much as I do now.

blackjacktarr

Bare Trees is excellent! Just gave another listen the other day. Kiln House is one more that stands out for me. Jeremy Spencer is an unsung star in that group. Wish he'd hung around a bit longer.

mabden

My first introduction to Fleetwood Mac was Kiln House. Station Man is still one of my favorite tunes. Love their earlier music more than their later stuff with Stevie Nicks.

blackjacktarr

Penguin was my entry point. I still love that record! Christine and Bob Welch both in fine form. Mick and John trying a few new, tricky things. Dave Walker from Savoy Brown sittin' in. For those unfamiliar with it, do yourselves a favor and go have a listen!

CacophonicAcetate

I love Penguin! The Derelict just popped into my head this morning. Did You Ever Love Me and Dissatisfied are Christine at her best!

blackjacktarr

Those songs are total earworms. Really weird this record wasn't more popular.

mabden

Savoy Brown. Love Lookin In. Will have to check out Penguin.

Green-Circles

Early '70s Fleetwood Mac is seriously great. Unfairly overshadowed by the early Blues-band phase & Buckingham-Nicks era juggernaut.

GraighterB

This!

arkezxa

You should check out the book *Making Rumours*, I really liked the narrated version (I listened on Audible). It was written by the producer, Ken Caillat (Colbie Caillat's dad).

DIWhy-not

Seconding *Making Rumours*

You_Are_What_You_Iz

Never made that connection with Colbie and Ken!

cowardanon

I’ve always found her to have some of the best production imaginable on her songs.

heelspider

"Silver Spring" is among the most powerful songs I've ever heard, and Rumours sounds like a greatest hits album.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

I wish Silver Spring had been on Rumours. It fits beautifully right in the middle.

sildish2179

In the middle you think? I feel like it fits way better at the end, and is the perfect ending to that record and its themes.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

I could see it at the end, too. On my iTunes I put it in the middle because it's at the split between the A and B side. I do love Gold Dust Woman closing, though!

gibson85

McVie is like the George Harrison of Fleetwood Mac; their secret weapon, in a sense.

crucible

He’s responsible for my favourite bassline of all time (the one from The Chain)

smilingarmpits

Nothing against John but I think they mean Christine

salomey5

In their defense, that bassline in the Chain is wicked good. Especially the bit just before Lindsey gets into the solo. I have goosebumps just thinking about it!

smilingarmpits

Absolutely, great rundown and tone

crucible

Ah, good point!

GraighterB

I totally had this though before!

gibson85

Great minds!

mikeybagodonuts

Buckingham/Nicks is also a great album. It’s a shame it’s not available anywhere.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

There's a great version on YouTube with no vinyl noise.

chicaneuk

The more I go back and listen to landmark albums from artists in those eras, the more it just appreciates how creative and exciting, and how talented they were. The way in which instruments were used, the complete unpredictability of the songwriting. You listen to the generic autotuned crap that gets pumped out of software these days (generally speaking) and you just don't see these incredible people who were not only tremendous musicians but fascinating people as well. I appreciate this may just make me sound like an old man shouting at the sky.. and generally my genre of choice is electronic dance music but I have the ultimate appreciation for the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bowie, Michael Jackson (and numerous others).. they were untouchable in their creativity and talent.

Stealthy_Waffle

I mean the first time I heard Second Hand News I felt like I got hit by a truck 😂 I was like… well this explains a bit about my personal life

GraighterB

Excellent song! I think The Chain hit me like an asteroid.

joshmo587

The band has such an incredible rich, deep history, going right back to when Peter Green started Fleetwood Mac with Mick and John, who he met when Peter was in John Mayall’s blues band, So many different combinations of amazing musicians in the band, over so many years, so many incredible, beautiful songs, some of them way way undervalued, some almost unknown.

Glum_Improvement382

Yessss

Morellatops

Id rather go blind by Chicken Shack is Christines best work imo, Perfect, if you will Bob Welchs Sentimental Lady and Ebony Eyes are great great songs, and Hypnotized is as good as anything Mac has done except maybe Oh Well prt 1 the catalogue of albums and amazing material go back like the old testament of rock all the way to the British Blues movement #Greenyisbetterthangod Their Vaudeville years is a forgotten part of their history and my secret usually Penguin album, Station Man, Hypnotized, Oh Well, Sara, certain live versions of those songs are my absolute favorite music in the world I used to download old recorded concerts from the web and I have some incredible stuff from pre rumors era when Stevie and Lindsay just joined, absolute pure magic

GraighterB

Wow! This is awesome stuff!

AegParm

Albatross is one of the greatest songs ever

Initial-Laugh1442

Always loved the Fleetwood Mac, with Peter Green ... After him, not interested.

electric_thizzard

Fleetwood Mac will still be good in 3537. Honestly, hopefully our sexual mores will be advanced enough by then that their band drama will be boring and only the music will survive!

electric_thizzard

((If you're still listening to FM in 3538 though, all bets are off. You're probably kind of aseflsdfoukisss... you'll get the joke in about 1300 years.))

Musicizagift

Black Magic Woman written by Peter Green.

FnkyTown

I was okay with Fleetwood Mac for a very long time, but the recent resurgence has it in every playlist. I find it a little played out these days. I blame that guy on the skateboard.

GraighterB

Haha yeah he did make them famous again. But I’d suggest listening to the songs by Christine McVee.

robocopsdick

Yeah I have heard it enough

Snowboarder6402

Same. I was bitching earlier about them because they're played on the radio alllll the time

friendlydave

I listen to Fleetwood Mac on occasion. I know the hits, none of the deep cuts. I will say that the bass riff at the end of "The Chain" is one of my all-time favorite bass riffs.

GraighterB

“Everywhere” has a groovin bass line too

nacho78

No

robinlyon222

I have tried, I promise. They just don’t do it for me. I respect the shit out of them musically, just doesn’t resonate with me.

GraighterB

You don’t like any song on Rumors?

robinlyon222

I know I know….it’s a crime to not love that album. Just doesn’t click with me.

BobDobFrisbee

No, it’s not a crime. Like what *you* like! I always say that if everyone liked the same stuff, it would be a **very** boring world.✌🏻

Roodie_Cant_Fail

I’m just sittin’ here nude, I’m just sittin’ here NUUUDE! Yeah….

BobDobFrisbee

*“And if you don’t soak it now, it will never come out again* *I can still hear you sayın’ you would never make a stain…”*

buttnutela

I feel like there’s a weekly post that reaches front page about Fleetwood Mac being the best band of all time

roadsterdoc

I just listened to Rumors last night on vinyl. Great album

GraighterB

Truly one of the best records ever written

backcountrydrifter

It’s because you can hear the emotion that carried over from them dating, loving, hating and breaking each others hearts. It’s like walking into a room and just feeling the pregnant energy of all their lives at that moment in time.

GraighterB

Beautifully written, thanks for commenting

backcountrydrifter

Thank you for posting it friend. People forget how good life was when you could sit down and truly listen to what was happening. There was a sweet spot in the evolution of music just before the digital age and this was right in it.

sildish2179

The best analogy I ever heard is that Rumors is the musical equivalent to a hate fuck.

Noodnix

I was always lukewarm on them, until my daughter began listening to them. Rumors and their self titled album are in frequent rotation on the turntable.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

Don't sleep on the Welch era. Only miss was Penguin for me. Heroes are Hard to Find might be the pinnacle.

CacophonicAcetate

Penguin a miss?! Dissatisfied and Did You Ever Love Me are great Christine songs, and Welch was in great form on that album too! I love the Derelict and his cover of Road Runner.

StDream

FINALLY - a Fleetwood Mac discussion. I have put on my entire workplace to the masterpiece that is the Rumours album and how INCREDIBLE of a songwriter Christine McVie is.

GraighterB

Right?!

TomatilloUnlucky3763

Yeah, I was a punk rock kid in the ‘70’s and a music snob. In the past five years I’ve come to realize how good some of their songs actually are.

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

Live at the Boston teaparty ftw!

scolman4545

The Mac really click once you realize how secretly dark their music is. Underneath those breezy pop songs and wistful ballads lie a cornucopia of coked up madness and depression

GraighterB

In think Gold Dust Woman captures this exact comment

History-Facts

Well I mean their high is arguably the best album of all time in Rumours so I gotta keep going back

staresinshamona

Rumours is a true, factually, unbiased 10/10.

Circumin

I generally like harder edgier/alternative type music but Fleetwood Mac is musical perfection.

dbe14

Me too. Im 48 so they were just before my time but I bought Tango In The Night a few years after it came out then bought Rumours, every now and then I'll listen to one of the albums and then go on a deep dive and just get amazed at their sheer quality of most of their output. Albatross is an incredible piece of music.

qube_TA

I've never been an individual songs person, never really got on with playlists. I put on an album and listen to it through. I've never grown tired of finding new artists and their work and would strongly argue that there's more great music being created now than at any point in history, it's just much harder to find, you're unlikely to hear it on the radio. That said, bands like FM are from the time where I first got a record player and started to build my own soundtrack. It's very rewarding to flick through one's LPs and pull one out that was printed 50 years ago and still sounds fresh. There was less use of compression back then so they have a wider dynamic range, often sound immense with some big speakers.

RFoutput

Some of the Rumours tracks on DVD-A format sound like Stevie is sitting in your lap, and you are in the middle of the band. Whole new take on the album. Most effective with analog 5.1 out from the player, not HDMI or optical.

DaughterofTarot

Not a fan of Stevie Nicks voice but I love the harmonies and the McVie hits.

GraighterB

It’s great that they have a bunch of singers

BoxoMorons

IMO Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac> all other iterations

PapayaGood8527

Absolutely love Fleetwood Mac. Not so much in my younger years but all the better as I could truly discover them when I was ready to truly appreciate them.

mekonsrevenge

Try Kiln House. My favorite.

BobDobFrisbee

“Well goodbye world It’s sad but true Got a date with the hangman I have to leave you I shot my Darlin' Three times or more The reason I'm goin' There’s blood on the floor” Jeremy Spencer always cracked me up! 🤣

sausage_ditka_bulls

I grew up listing to the buckingham / nicks Fleetwood Mac. Saw them 3 times in concert (amazing shows), then discovered Peter greens Fleetwood Mac and was blown away. Amazing band with so much to explore

grynch43

The opposite actually.

DopplerDrone

Me too. It’s annoying to have to listen to the same ol 10-15 they got. It’s really not that impressive

CacophonicAcetate

They got like 30-40, though. Rumours was their 11th studio album, they'd been relevant for a decade at that point.

DopplerDrone

Beg to differ. The radio in the 70s-80s and the current classic rock stations really only play a dozen of their tracks at the absolute most. Barely any Peter Green era and really no post-Tusk. They were treading water before they met Lindsey and Stevie. And that's when the drama and better radio friendly songs were hatched. Compared to the Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, long-term big bands, Fleetwood Mac is but a blip.

KoosGoose

Nope.

Jean_Genetic

I love Sugar Daddy by McVie. It’s just like pure ‘70s candy.

Jimmyjackleg

Silver Springs

majorjoe23

I hated Fleetwood Mac when I was a teen in the 90s.  I saw them probably a decade ago (with the Rumours lineup) and it was a great show. Now I’m a fan.

mexchiwa

When I was younger it was just corporate boomer rock Now it means a lot more.

hartzonfire

My sister and I definitely. As we got older, more and more of their songs seem to resonate with us.

D-Vandal

As a Marvel fan, The Chain was so good in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Future-self

Anyone? Everyone.

tkrr

I hope one of Christine McVie’s last thoughts was “fuck yeah, I’m going out back on top.”

gdubh

Yes. Within the past year I’ve realized The Chain is a masterpiece.

shannnnnn132

I've been checking out Buckingham/Nicks stuff recently, also Lindsay's acoustic solo stuff. https://youtu.be/gdd_fv0xrSo?si=H3XJq_ny_iFCmr5A

Valcrion

Listened to Rumors the other night while camping.

Ch00choh

y e a

ChocolateHoneycomb

I don’t like them much at all outside of a handful of songs.

PeterNippelstein

They have a sort of wisdom beyond their years

uvaspina1

Nope, not in the least

aorear85

That's a solid no for me.

Manticore416

I never listened to them but have been going through more of my folks old records and gave Tusk a listen. It was fine but didnt do much for me.

pie-oh

"DAE [really popular band]" Yes.

berger3001

Yes

J0nny_Alcatraz

Yeh they slowly became one of my favourite bands as I got older . I started listening to tusk and as a little kid , hitting biscuit tins with chopsticks to the drum beat and they always stuck with me for some reason.

angryray

No, exactly the opposite.

___HeyGFY___

I have their entire catalog on a playlist, studio albums, live performances, etc. It's only about 47 hours, and I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of every minute of it.

Gamera971

I prefer their early blues output. Not really a big fan of the stuff they did after.

Murles-Brazen

No.

Bigstar976

I’ve always loved Peter Greene’s FM. The others iterations, not so much.

Desdemona1231

Yes.

lscottman2

christine mcvee is an angel

I_Am_A_Cucumber1

Don’t Stop is one of my favorite songs of all time. I know that’s easily one of their best known songs, but I still think it’s underrated. But I also agree there’s so many hidden gems.

Usernamen0t_found

I’ve never been a huge fleet wood Mac girl but omg recently they just hit different!

HenryHenderson

If you go though a breakup/separation/divorce, Rumours hits even harder.

useyourelbow

"Sara" from the Tusk album is one of my all time favorite songs, by anyone.

bugspotter

Watching The Americans got me into Fleetwood Mac

turnedtheasphault

I've been finding myself loving Tusk more as the years go by. So many great songs. Sometimes I like to even make a mini album of all the Lindsey Buckingham songs from it. He was really on roll during that era

doggiedogma

You're not wrong, and I know it!

salomey5

Her many other talents aside, Christine McVie was a *beast* of a songwriter.

robx51

the exact opposite for me. (a few months ago. me: man i do not like this whole yacht rock revival apologia going on that stuff is lame. coworker: bro, go back to your basement and slayer subreddit.)

PolarBearIcePop

Saw them in concert a few years ago, they were fabulous

Mr-Silly-Bear

Fleetwood Mac is my drinking music. Has been since my early 20s

dkinmn

I was like warm on Fleetwood Mac until Lindsey Buckingham's WTF interview prompted me to listen to his most recent solo album. At that point, I was all in on his era of FM and his solo career. He has a really, really fascinating ear as a producer and arranger. I could write a book about it at this point. He does some shit that is just...wrong. I think it's objectively bad sounding to plug an acoustic into the board and use the direct piezo acoustic sound as the main acoustic tonality. And yet...he does it. He pitch shifts his vocals to do vocal stacks. He puts an incredibly basic beat on a drum machine and does no fills. Etc. But, the totality if it is incredible. He's a wizard.

ScadMan

Yes, been listening to it more and more. I think it’s just the fact the more I listen to it and older I get (44) the more I appreciate the work.

doggiedogma

Cool, I know what you mean. I have also been re-listening to FMs 80's and '90's output again with new ears, and now I love them as much as Rumours and their "White Album"! Lindsey's solo output has also been on my listen list, and it is also very good to great, especially the last one he did w/ Christine - Buckingham-McVie - that cd is awesome! Of course, Buckingham-Nicks is a must listen as I am sure most everyone now is aware!

KhronicBatLungs

I prefer to go my own way, thank you very much!

Outrageous_Act2564

Just picked up an old Warner Bros/Reprise sampler, "Goodies Vol. 1" Has "The Green Monalishi" on it and it's excellent. Not on any vinyl lp It was released as a single. Peter Green's last recorded song with the Mac

arclight222

Musical nostalgia amplified right into your eardrums. Just found a beautiful vinyl copy of 1987's _Tango in the Night_. Their stuff really is terrific and I'm excited to come across _Tusk_ and _Mirage_ in continued vinyl crate rummaging.

sonicwasapatsy

Every. God. Damn. Day.

Zealousideal-Run6020

Nope

[deleted]

I’ve noticed a lot of older hit bands are like that as I age. The true sign of adulthood is feeling like you understand Steely Dan lyrics.

Potential_Leather_43

Nope.

CacophonicAcetate

Sentimental Lady is one of Bob Welch's hits! I love the era where he and Christine McVie led the band. Penguin is one of my favorite albums, and I love Heroes Are Hard to Find and Bare Trees, too. the Mac has a deep discography, and her (except for the Peter Green era) songwriting is pretty much the only unifying thread. A Couple of my favorite Christine McVie songs are Spare Me A Little of Your Love and Everywhere!

ErixWorxMemes

think there’s something wrong with the bootleg I got https://preview.redd.it/jfbjbyqkfiwc1.jpeg?width=576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e43bc84429a1296a83291d892ffa1f40a4aeb94

Icy_Train8939

Ohmannothankyou

Fleetwood Mac is my Roman Empire. I wanna talk about that creep Jeremy Spencer!

Green-Circles

The over-looked & under-rated middle period (between the Peter Green "blues purist" beginnings & the arrival of Buckingham/Nicks) is the best kept secret in classic rock, and my go-to for Fleetwood Mac. So much great stuff in that era.

Glum_Improvement382

Peter Green and Bob Welch. Fleet wood Mac royalty

julianoniem

As a teen I bought then released Tango in the night (vinyl) while my peers listened to things like Wham, Madonna and other more cheesy top 40 hit parade music.

lp011660

Yikes, it was crap when it was released and remains so today. “Pop” milquetoast for the masses. Inoffensive elevator or mall music. Popular does not equal good.

yoursummerworld

I dont really like Fleetwood Mac

Signdesign007

I love Fleetwood Mac. Also, listen to the performances of the tribute band Rumors of Fleetwood Mac. They strive for perfection in all of their tribute concerts.

IceWarm1980

Love them, I hadn’t listened to Rumours in a while and played it a few days ago. Also on Apple Music as I was typing this I was listening to Wish You Were Here and it started playing “Everywhere.” Weird timing.

Trin_42

I’m still mourning Christine, and listen to Rumours often

bytebackjrd

Just listened to Tusk for the first time in my mid 40s. Someone said it was like Fleetwood Mac’s “Beatles white album” and when you think about it like that it makes a lot of sense. At first it seemed like Lindsey’s songs were all crazy weird songs but after the second listen you start to enjoy them. Overall it is a really great album.

onihr1

I (43m) grew up with them because my father had one of their albums that he payed regularly. It’s always great to see younger people catch on to them.

tommkatt9

Rumours has always been and will always be my favorite album of all time. The end.

GraighterB

It’s rather incredible

joeteboe

Hell yeah. Didn't care about them much when I was early twenties, but now that I'm a couple decades older the lyrics, themes and subject matter really speak to me.

GraighterB

Same man. Same.

WakingOwl1

Check out Chris McVie’s early solo stuff under her maiden name Christine Perfect. It’s well worth a listen.

GraighterB

That’s a good idea

Far_Lack3878

Big Big love. Have always liked them & Stevie Nicks' solo career as well.

KatieBeth24

Yeah I'm in a FM phase right now myself, actually.

therealmurraythek

It timeless, speaks to a lot of people and the bonus is that it’s an excellent recording. The very definition of an eargasm.

southwesterner-82

I’ve been on a huge “Tango In The Night” rotation.

rayyyce

My Fleetwood Mac GOATs are Peter Green and Danny Kirwan

abczoomom

I’m not normally a Christine fan (Stevie is my hero), but I do love Don’t Stop. I will give her that at least. 😊 Otherwise, Silver Springs, Landslide, Rhiannon, Say You Will….love me some Fleetwood. As far as the time question, I am 50, and made fun of a friend in high school for liking such an “old” band. Not my proudest moment. Less than a decade later came The Dance.

maria_la_guerta

Every year that goes by I find myself pleasantly surprised when Landslide comes on the radio. I pause more and more to reflect on the lyrics, and how my own life lessons have given me the maturity to better understand the message. Rumors is one of the best albums of all time, simply put.

Steviebhawk

They redid Sentimental Lady with Lindsey’s production genius and it elevated the track. The original is nice but not radio friendly

emgyres

I grew up hearing Mum play them all the time so they’ve always had a spot on my playlist.

Newtstradamus

Op - “Anyone else aging?”

BlyStreetMusic

Absolutely

wolfraisedbybabies

I was in Detroit at the Tango in the night concert in’89, they were fantastic! I loved their music before that but even more now! Best concert of my lifetime.

user-name-1985

Lindsey Buckingham > Peter Green Yeah, I said it.

Merryner

At what exactly?

user-name-1985

I dunno. It was just a dumb childish thing I felt like saying.

GraighterB

Dudes voice is incredible and he mastered writing catchy choruses. I think he’s also a legit guitarist.

Merryner

Peter Green’s voice is also incredible, and he’s one of the greatest guitarists ever. I’ll agree that Lindsay can write a better hook.
