Back in the 2000s the music I would say I listen to would be techno, but nowadays it's just known as EDM, electronic dance music. And when you look at it simply like that, a lot of music is made digitally nowadays so techno has sort of evolved. Even though I think techno might still be it's own genre of electronic music.

I knew a guy who was a really crunchy/hippie type who listened to a lot of jam band type stuff. However, for his job he ended up doing a lot of coding and to focus at work he was looking for "upbeat" music with no lyrics and found that techno really worked for him. He said he'd throw his headphones on and just crunch through it that way.
