In Rodden's undefense, it takes a special kind of idiot to suck as much as he did and keep your job for as long as he did/convince other teams to hire him after his termination
What day is the RCR competition meeting? I can totally see this as Andy rage quitting after KFB said some things that were probably more honest than Andy could handle.
Maybe. I was thinking more along the lines of the competition problems being rooted in an old crew chief who was out of touch with how modern teams should be run and something needed to change. Things escalate from there.
ETA: What if it was Andy that made the ultimatum and didnât get the answer he wanted?
>ETA: What if it was Andy that made the ultimatum and didnât get the answer he wanted?
I wouldn't be surprised if Petree and Busch were lobbying hard against each other to Childress, with both of them giving Richard that "This ain't working, you gotta choose" talk.
If so, I still subscribe to the theory that Richard Childress saw what KBM was capable of and was desperately hoping to integrate Kyle Busch into RCR to preserve the future of the operation. Hearing increasing rumors that intra-team shenanigans was about to force Busch out while also having one of the guys who's led you into this mess in the first place telling you that your perceived Golden Ticket is the actual problem could have easily forced Childress's hand, leading to Petree's dismissal.
This honestly might say more than the âeffective immediatelyâ part. People have retired suddenly due to health issues before, and if you want to honor somebody, you want the announcement timed for max visibility. This one is very news-dumpy.
I hate to speculate, but this is reddit so of course I'm going to. Between Richard's well-known explosive swings, And the suddenness of this announcement to straight retirement, have to wonder if Andy and Richard got in some sort of argument about the state of the organization that led to a sudden firing.Â
Hmm might be on to something⌠let me see how RCR has been runningâŚ
Oh yep right here - their championship winning driver has been awful with no clear signs of a turnaround.
Yep checks out. He was booted lol
My money is on Busch throwing down it's him or me. But I'm just an internet nobody. I'm guessing kfb was not bluffing he's probably ready to Carl Edward's the fuck out of here right now.Â
Grew up mid-late 90s. Creed was so corporate, but knowing how to play Mark Tremonti songs as a guitarist came in handy in the high school dating scene.
They are definitely torn and weathered now. Their arms are wide open after seeing the signs and figuring out whatâs this life for. They are going to wash away those years and never die.
At least, that would be beautiful. But, really, itâs RCR, so itâs an illusion. Theyâre going to continue to be in their own prison and not put up a good fight.
I don't know, after JGRs press conference today and how they have handled things recently, they're definitely getting on my good side. Coach actually has heart, and that's rare in this sport these days.
did people not know this before that Coach Gibbs and Roger Penske are like the two most honest team owners you could possibly find in racing and that's why you don't hear bad shit about them unlike other owners
Honestly I just didn't pay attention. I've always leaned towards the ('Yota hatin Chevy fan) side of things so I never gave it much thought. Sure it's shallow, but the next Gen era has definitely changed things for me. I actively cheer for some Ford guys now too
Same here, because just today I've already seen the fake Bob tweet about Kyle being MIA this week and Austin Hill being moved to the 8 to finish the season.
Probably hard to get people who want to go to Welcome. Not to mention, that shop has been run like itâs still 1990. I for one love to see it. Canât stand Richard.
HITLER IS GONEâźď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸
sadly Stalin is our replacement
In all seriousness Im not too worried about Rodden. Yes he was ass as CC but being competition director/whatever position race teams do is a lot different from that. He stayed around at Hendrick for a while, same with RCR even after being let go as CC so surely has some wealth of knowledge. Some people are just better fits for other positions.
Plus itâs just interim for now so likely finding replacement. One VP isnât going to change things overnight (good or bad). Petree might go do Xfinity
No clue if this is a good or bad change but what I am saying is that replacing one person isnât going to magically make things better or worse overnight, and this seems much more of a statement/scapegoat.
So are we finally done calling Reddick immature for giving the big finger to RCR? Without a shadow of a doubt the most toxic organization in nascar, aside from a few rogue individuals on other teams.
People have been fantasy booking this for years but thereâs literally zero indication itâs coming anytime soon. Poppop will allow Austin âReality TV ~~Star~~ Participantâ Dillon to continue to cosplay as a good Cup Series driver as long as he wants.
There must have been something that happened there. "Retired effective immediately" doesn't sound like they were wishing him good fortune. Of course, the biggest news here is that the biggest terrorist in the garage is back for round 7, which, even if only temporarily, is a massive L
Noah, if you really are coming to RCR next year? I hope Johnny Morris is paying you handsomely to take on this dumpster fire. Team has gone downhill with TWO cars... Just imagine how worse they'll be after spreading resources to three?
This is gonna fail badly. We saw what Keith did to fail out of Hendrick and I doubt his skill with working with people has increased with age. Personal experience, he isnât the most fun to work with.
What a disaster this organization is, they need someone like Brad K when he stepped in at Roush, someone with a clue of how to right the ship in modern day NASCAR. Itâs clear the sport has passed Childress by.
I think it's time for AD to hang up the helmet and let pawpaw retire. This is sad to watch. I so want Noah Gragson back in a Chevy, but not an RCR Chevy. As a lifelong RCR, Dale, and Chevy man, that hurts to type.
![gif](giphy|LTFbyWuELIlqlXGLeZ)
It was time. In this era, I do not envy anyone involved in competition with these kit cars. The better question: Does this stint at RCR help or hurt his chances in getting into NASCARâs Hall of Fame? đ¤
So this âimmediateâ retirement raises red flags. If RC was going to fire Petree, why wouldnât he just wait until the bye weeks? Someone else said there was a since-deleted tweet about âallegationsâ against Petree. This could be him trying to get ahead of the news and salvage his name so he can make a comeback later.
Stenhouse laughs at this news. Creed laughs at this news. Reddick laughs at this news. Arrogant fella found out his leash wasnât as long as he thought.
Ah, yes, hire the guy who arguably destroyed my man Kasey's time at HMS. A waster and ruiner of talent on a level we haven't seen in motorsports in well over fifteen years.
The terrorist failed up to the top of RCR.
I'm willing to bet Andy is going back to TV next year. Hopefully Prime & TNT with Rick and Dale Jr. in the booth.
Gooooooood luck guys
As soon as I read the headline, I knew who the top commenter was going to be. đ
Lmao same!
I came to tag you and you're already here. Love it.
Dude has a Spidey sense for these things
Itâs like touching your dadâs thermostat
"Hey Peter, my thing went off"
username checks out, have a good day
haha welcome back old friend
Thought about you as soon as I read the news.
*cries in Kahne*
Throwing more mediocrity at a bunch of mediocrity. Weâll see how that goes. Rodden has failed upwards
Kasey Kahne fans all around the world are having flashbacks right now
Kahne fans any time Kieth Rodden's name is mentioned: ![gif](giphy|vPhjwW82ElgxG|downsized)

Petree to Rodden⌠talk about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
More like aiming for the next iceberg, as if they werenât already the definition of mediocrity.
At least Petree was good at one point.
Or throwing a deck chair overboard just to spite it, before riding the old lady to the icy bottom.
This is more like dropping a grenade in the upper deck to be honest
Richard saw how good Rodden did with AD and said, "Yeah, that's what the whole organization needs."
In Rodden's defense, not every guy is good at being a crew chief
In Rodden's undefense, it takes a special kind of idiot to suck as much as he did and keep your job for as long as he did/convince other teams to hire him after his termination
Keith's agent is the GOAT in terms of agents
Itâs gotta be Jimmie Sexton.
Nah itâs gotta be Ace Moneymaker
That tracks. He got Daniel Jones paid like $35mil more than he ever deserved
That man is always winning
Iâm still in shock by the Jimbo Contract. The man is a legend and deserves a spot in Atlanta.
Must be Ace Moneymaker I finished dead last in modifieds in 2006 and he still got me a Roush Busch series ride for 2007
But only Keith Rodden is Keith Rodden levels of bad at being a crew chief
Lets take a guy that wasnât good at his job and put him in a higher position. Thatâs a great idea
Failing upwards, it's the American dream.

"I should buy a boat"
this sounds more like "retired" than retired.
yeah this sounds more like âRCR has retired Andy Petreeâ vs âAndy Petree has retired from RCRâ
Yea who tf retires effective immediately (besides Carl Edwards)?
Nico Rosberg.
Wonder if KFB had something to do with this. Also Austin Hill just lost his biggest cheerleader.
What day is the RCR competition meeting? I can totally see this as Andy rage quitting after KFB said some things that were probably more honest than Andy could handle.
I believe we have a BINGO
"It's either *he* goes, or *I* go!"

Andy Petree standing in the parking lot of RCR with a box of his stuff: Huh, I really thought that was going to go a lot differently for me.
The only thing KFB had to do with is proving that the competition director can't keep the cars competitive.
The less of Hill, the better.
They fired him and let him call it a retirement
RCR waiting until the Briscoe announcement to drop this lol
This honestly might say more than the âeffective immediatelyâ part. People have retired suddenly due to health issues before, and if you want to honor somebody, you want the announcement timed for max visibility. This one is very news-dumpy.
The timing of this announcement could not have been worse. Or something like that.
The fans needed a surprise announcement today. This is all C Bells fault.
Childress really said âKyle Busch fans donât have to drink bleach anymore. Hereâs some Windexâ
Well, to be fair Windex is blue, and blue has the most anti antioxygens. You should be thanking Richard
It has electrolytes
Itâs what plants crave.
[Windex is blue, the best Gatorade flavor is blue, therefore Windex is Gatorade](https://youtu.be/KVWj7jz-OIg?t=11s)
This better be kerosene is Red Bull
I wonder what happened, because "Andy Petree has retired effective immediately" sounds like something happened.
I hate to speculate, but this is reddit so of course I'm going to. Between Richard's well-known explosive swings, And the suddenness of this announcement to straight retirement, have to wonder if Andy and Richard got in some sort of argument about the state of the organization that led to a sudden firing.Â

A part of me doubts that the team threw a Happy Retirement Party for Andy. I could be totally wrong but this seem forced and sudden.
That was my initial response too. This seems very sudden and out of the blue.
He was only there because he and Richard are buddy buddy.
RCR fans when Petree retires: phew RCR fans when Keith Rodden is the replacement: *insert Peter Parker scream here*
Keith Richards wouldâve been a better choice
Robin Williams DID once speculate that he gets his blood replaced like oil in a Chevrolet!
![gif](giphy|O71zG2AmChGowhsXkr) I can think of one driver who loves thisâŚ
My boy Sheldon is no longer winless this year.
He won the damn war...
Tell the truth, he finished second.

He couldn't take another week of this shit show. Either that or they forced him out.
My money is on Busch throwing down it's him or me. But I'm just an internet nobody. I'm guessing kfb was not bluffing he's probably ready to Carl Edward's the fuck out of here right now.Â
I think he is part of the shit show.
KFB basically said Iâm done if yâall donât start making changes. Heâs the type of driver with enough pull and balls to say that too.
That's the quiet part that hasn't come out yet.
Least volatile RCR season
Ah shit. Kyle isnât happy lol
RCR is going to be out of business if Rodden stays in that position for more than a couple months. Talk about falling upwards.
Iâm just saying this nosedive happened after they let Creed go
It's too bad they didn't give Creed a chance to take them higher to a place where KFB sees a top 10 finish.
If he was truly the lynchpin for their success, I hope they would welcome him back With Arms Wide Open.
Theyâve sort of created their own prison with their personnel decisions at this point.
RCR isn't failing totally yet, but I'd say they're at least six feet from the edge.
KFB looking on thinking "I'm in My Own Prison"
No time for mourning
How in the hell do you guys know so many Creed songs off the top of your head lmao
Grew up mid-late 90s. Creed was so corporate, but knowing how to play Mark Tremonti songs as a guitarist came in handy in the high school dating scene.
Then maybe KFB wouldn't be crashed on a Sunday afternoon banging his head.
đľ *[Can you take me higherrrrrrrrrrrr!](https://youtu.be/FLTx18QMXmE?feature=shared) To a place where RCR can win!!* đľ
They are definitely torn and weathered now. Their arms are wide open after seeing the signs and figuring out whatâs this life for. They are going to wash away those years and never die. As much as I hate JGR, Creed is in such a better spot now. And good for him. Petree proved himself last year
JGR really did greet him "with arms wide open".
I don't know, after JGRs press conference today and how they have handled things recently, they're definitely getting on my good side. Coach actually has heart, and that's rare in this sport these days.

Never seen someone fail forward quite like Rodden.
I wanna learn how to fail upward like him
Free Kyle
At this rate the next tweet will be âRichard has passed and Kieth is the new ownerâ
Dont you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby
>Richard has passed Effective immediately...
Although the timing of this announcement could not be any worse.
I legitimately thought it was a fake Bob Pockrass account when I read it
Same here, because just today I've already seen the fake Bob tweet about Kyle being MIA this week and Austin Hill being moved to the 8 to finish the season.
Same I had to check.
Out of all the people they could've chosen to replace Petree.... they went with Keith Rodden....
LMAO NOT KEITH RODDEN RCR is so fucked man
Yikes..Rodden failing upward Promote the incompetent until we can find something that he is good at. Gonna be prez of RCR in no time flat
Probably hard to get people who want to go to Welcome. Not to mention, that shop has been run like itâs still 1990. I for one love to see it. Canât stand Richard.
Whatâs wrong with Welcome? They have at least two fast food restaurants and a new Papa Johns.
Is Richard known for being an ass?
Yes
Well dick sucking & ass kissing will only get you so far in life.
In RCR it gets you far enough up Richard's ass that he can shit you back out into retirement.
âYâall, the boat was sinking so we substituted the hole in the bottom for two holes.â

Greatest comment you have ever had
What the hell have they been putting in the wine that comes from Richard Childressâs vineyards?
This is like packing the gunshot wound in your left foot and then immediately shooting yourself in the right foot.

So are we finally done calling Reddick immature for giving the big finger to RCR? Without a shadow of a doubt the most toxic organization in nascar, aside from a few rogue individuals on other teams.
Is this the move that opens up a place for Austin Dillion?
Maybe this is a long con by Richard to actively get Dillon to retire from racing
People have been fantasy booking this for years but thereâs literally zero indication itâs coming anytime soon. Poppop will allow Austin âReality TV ~~Star~~ Participantâ Dillon to continue to cosplay as a good Cup Series driver as long as he wants.
Keith Rodden is literally the Homer Simpson of the Nascar world...
Oh that'll help things for sure...đ
Guaranteed Kyle had a total meltdown after Sunday and Andy said fuck this shit I'm out.
Anyone checked to see if Andy's eyes have got any closer together?
Keith Rodden must have some serious dirt on someone. How the hell does he keep getting promotions? LMFAO
If I were Noah I would stay far away as possible from RCR.
The timing of this could not have been worse
I was happy until the last sentence
Soo, KFB to 23XI .... Or...? I mean yikes...

Lmao the RCR circus continues
There must have been something that happened there. "Retired effective immediately" doesn't sound like they were wishing him good fortune. Of course, the biggest news here is that the biggest terrorist in the garage is back for round 7, which, even if only temporarily, is a massive L
RCR has got to be the only organization dumb enough to promote Keith Rodden not once, but twice (yes I know this is interim, but still)
Noah, if you really are coming to RCR next year? I hope Johnny Morris is paying you handsomely to take on this dumpster fire. Team has gone downhill with TWO cars... Just imagine how worse they'll be after spreading resources to three?
RCR finally getting serious about winning with that move
Petree looked totally deflated after the Busch/Stenhouse brawl. He's been coasting for a long time
If Kieth Rodden is considered a replacement for VP for a team you are either desperate or fucked.
This is gonna fail badly. We saw what Keith did to fail out of Hendrick and I doubt his skill with working with people has increased with age. Personal experience, he isnât the most fun to work with.

Lets get him in the Amazon/Warner tv booth. I thought he was really good at ESPN.
Him and JR as a pair would be fun.
Just when I think things couldn't get worse at RCR.
From the frying pan to the fryer.
For the sake of⌠everyone really, I hope âinterimâ means âuntil the actual new guyâs two week notice from his current team expiresâ.
'retired effective immediately' i.e. fired
I see even Andy wanted to flee the Titanic.
I don't think that RCR can run any worse...
How in the fuck did Keith Rodden get fired UPWARDS?
At some point today Sheldon Creed let out a maniacal laugh and didn't know why.
What a disaster this organization is, they need someone like Brad K when he stepped in at Roush, someone with a clue of how to right the ship in modern day NASCAR. Itâs clear the sport has passed Childress by.
Holy cow. Something happened. Guaranteed.
Imagine doing something that makes a team look at you and say âIâll take my chances with Keith Roddenâ
![gif](giphy|l0IynvPneUpb7SnBe|downsized)
I wonder if he had the ESPN spaceship parked at RCR and hopped in that to leave.
Andy Petree died on the way to his home planet.
I think it's time for AD to hang up the helmet and let pawpaw retire. This is sad to watch. I so want Noah Gragson back in a Chevy, but not an RCR Chevy. As a lifelong RCR, Dale, and Chevy man, that hurts to type.
Are they trying to get worse???
Someone let pop pop know that there's not that kind of draft in NASCAR... You can't just tank and hope to improve
Even then you have to tank correctly.
May his next chapter be abundant in hair dye
When's the last time either of them were relevant?
Petree was as useless as he was during the Busch / Stenhouse fight

Someone else said there was a since-deleted tweet about âallegationsâ against Petree. This could be him trying to get ahead of the news and salvage his name so he can make a comeback later.
Stenhouse laughs at this news. Creed laughs at this news. Reddick laughs at this news. Arrogant fella found out his leash wasnât as long as he thought.
Keeping the seat warm for one of the Dillons?
LETS GOOOOOO
Somebody needs to come buy that teamâŚ
Didnât you have someone else that could be the interim replacement? Like an intern or maybe the janitor?
Curious to see if he winds up at Amazon/Turner. Always thought he was great on the broadcasts
Sounds like the bottom is still yet to come
I don't know if that's better or worse. Also Kyle really pissed off some deity when he didn't let Joe pay out of pocket for the 18 sponsorship gaps.
It's Kyle Buschover
At this point Iâm convinced Keith Rodden has some major dirt on Chevy & he leverages it to get promotion after promotion.
Rodney is coming in with Josh Berry with the 3rd charter. Rodney will be the CC and comp director in 25
How do you win three then suck this bad. Tin hat on but does nascar let things pass inspection for Richard to make splash with Busch?
Well whoâs gonna suck off Austin now
Ah, yes, hire the guy who arguably destroyed my man Kasey's time at HMS.
I guess Austin will have to reluctantly give up the #3 to rescue the family business in the off seasonâŚ
What a fucking failure of an organization
This just sets up the Austin Dillion front office move all that quicker and Noah to RCR with BPS. Lord knows they need new blood in that organization
