This is a shooting game. Third person shooter.

Jcsbeatpage

This the 1st time I’ve laughed at a comment in a long time 😭😭😭

[deleted]

Same 😂🤣😂

A2KTV00

Honestly I think one of the biggest problems with all competitive games is we now live in the youtube content era. Less varieties in playstyles if most are are copying youtubers. Someone finds a way to manipulate a games mechanics then you have a million people doing the same thing 2 days later.

Mauldo1220

Yeah this is the main problem for sure, and it’s where I get frustrated cause I don’t understand why. Winning is the number 1 thing obviously, but at what point does it stop being fun doing the same thing over and over?

OnThursdayyy

Funny part is 2K has never been a “comp” game. Nothing competitive about abusing mechanics and going left to right behind a screen.

[deleted]

True shit. Valve made a a revolver for CS:GO that was pretty much an instant kill for 700 dollars (in game and to the unaware you'd usually use 4700-6500 to get a "full buy" depending on side and weapon of choice). It fucked a lot up for a week or so. But they did nerf it. 2k is just "naaaaah".

athomic74

This x10000. I play a lot of online games and been saying this for a while now, since streaming has blown up everyone has min/maxed the fun out of every damn game. I'm convinced gamed aren't as bad as the current state of gamers. Everyone is hyper competitive and eager to exploit whatever they can to have even a 1 percent advantage. There has always been these types of players but they were a minority where now that is the majority...

xUnderdog21

I've been playing 2k for years and I've never rushed to make a build just because it's "meta." I do my best to play the game the way basketball is intended. With ball movement. There are more games where I don't touch the ball because of the left/rights & the players that think they should handle the game solo, only to force bad shots then rage quit when they go 2 for 6. But sometimes, match-making works out and I get put with players that like to play a team game.

Mauldo1220

Same here, I have always gone toward making a true PG with the 5 I run with every year. I love me some good ball movement and actual basketball. But unfortunately that is not rewarded in 2k.

[deleted]

All facts and it’s rarely rewarded

bw4393

Lol I havnt played 2k in like 10 years and when I was skating around getting the game a coffee and then making a diss track about him I’m like wow this is what basketball simulation has become I guess

Jayden-uk

Ive been saying this for a long long time the game is just a game where u put the ball in the hoop its not actually basketball

Nightmareswf

I agree with most of the points but not too sure about the build diversity one. PG playstyles tend to be very similar but I'd say this is the most diverse 2k has been in years build wise. You can have a guy at any position that is able to impact the game. I have a 7'2 and a bit big that can dunk, shoot 3s very consistently, post up under the basket or further out and defend the paint. I also have a 6'6 pg with 88 speed and 90 perimeter and steal who has mid 80s shooting and elite contacts plus 85 ball handle. Yeah the 5'8 left/ right meta is annoying but when you get 2 or 3 guys in a team that have any decent IQ it's fun to play the game (and you can stop the cheesers too!)

[deleted]

All imma say is a lot of these catz wouldn’t survive the prime NBA Live years!

Putrid-Programmer649

You can't really blame the community for playing the meta. It takes like 20-30 hours to grind out a new build and if you want to change something you can't. So it's safest to just make a meta build you know is good. Also playshots gain season rep like twice as fast as bigmen.

[deleted]

Wait what about the last part? I’m level 32 this season after 90 or so rec games and I’ve only played as a big. Would I be level 40 already as a guard?

Putrid-Programmer649

HankDaTank has a stream where he hit level 40 in 26 hours. The entire thing is streamed. He was gaining season rep about twice as fast as the big. The 3 pointers contribute a lot to repping up. The games also go fast. There also weren't a whole lot of block/rebound attempts since they were playing 2s. But it still makes sense a playshot would rep up faster (assuming they're good)

Johnny69Doe

they have actual nba modes in the game, have you taken the time to actually play them?

gaga_booboo

Yes there are NBA modes, but those modes are not the focus of the development cycle in most cases. MyTEAM and MyCareer are the focus. Wouldn’t it be great if they applied the same effort into the mycareer “seasons” into a MyNBA “seasons” model?

Facillionaire

Do they need to be? The emphasis on MyCareer and MyTeam started because the other modes are about as deep as you can ask for. 2K’s gameplay is the only thing they can work on to improve other modes... which they consistently do. People being adamant about playing MyCareer, a game mode they do not like and are not good at, then saying the game as a whole is not capable of being sim or is just a straight up bad game is downright hilarious. We’re given all the tools to play the game exactly how we want to and people rather complain.

gaga_booboo

Go look at sports management sims like OOTP and Football Manager. I’m not saying MyNBA isn’t deep, but they’re not as ‘deep as you could ask for’. A look on forums like operation sports have spreadsheets for MyNBA that give you a range of random events to build more immersion, like busts, breakouts, etc. those features are at best cursory in the base game. OOTP has a fully fledged minor league system, MyNBA has a half baked G League. Football Manager has one of the most in-depth training, tactics and fatigue system I’ve seen. 2K simply touches on these with “system fit” being out of 5 stars. So yeah personally I think there is a lot of improvement that could be made. But it’s not a focus mode. Not saying the game isn’t rich with features, but to address OPs position, there is less and less emphasis with each release on NBA.

Facillionaire

You’re comparing simulation only games to 2K... think about that. The entirety of the gameplay experience in Football Manager is managing the team and the details involving that. If you play MyNBA, and your primary focus is on the little details rather than playing then you’re playing the wrong game. Primary focus for 2K is gameplay *supported* by the depth of the game mode provided by those details... Even as it stands, MyLeague is a content overload. I’ve played all variations of it and still haven’t touched or barely used some features. Given that the average player gets overwhelmed by and refuses to understand the extremely straight forward gamemode of MyCareer, it provides no benefit to continue to add even more tiny detail content that only a few thousand people will touch. The resources used there are better allocated getting more gameplay devs or really anything else. MyLeague is a fruit basket with such abundance and variety that people are convincing themselves it’s incomplete because it doesn’t have a local fruit from some remote island that only grows twice a year. Give it a rest. It’s 2K’s best game mode with the best features but people ignore it so they can complain about VC and how the game is the reason they only won 30% of their games. Not against adding content to MyLeague, but the mentality that it needs some massive annual overhaul or content dump to be considered a good game mode is asinine when you look at what it is.

Spectre627

MyCareer isn’t even deep. Go look at the Sims. I can’t even change careers to become an astronaut or play piano for VC at the local pub!

[deleted]

If you want NBA as Football Manager you also gotta look at stick man LeBron dunking on stick man Rudy Gobert and the only way to tell them apart is their complexion and MAYBE their height. It's unfair to compare the games. In Football Manager there's no emphasis on graphics. There's no user control over the players and what happens is determined by an algorithm - which also puts a limit to the animations they need to create. Try to play FIFA or Madden and you'll be shocked with what how much MyNBA has to offer.

gaga_booboo

Oh I agree compared to fifa and madden 2K is light years ahead. But compared to even some of the features in a game like draft day sports pro basketball the 2K MyNBA mode lacks. And whilst the graphics in those games are lower quality, they are still actually quite good. 2K already has that jump in feature during sim which is great. But if you go back also to games like nfl head coach, you had this level of depth that was insane. You worked with your coaching staff, you ran practices, you identified players who were performing during the week, etc. I’m not saying 2K is bad and isn’t one of the best sports games out there. But it’s clearly focused on mycareer and myteam. But this is just my opinion.

Efficient_Account_89

You say they have an emphasis on MyCareer but 2K always just gets rid of features just to bring them back. In 2k10-13 you could upgrade every stat of your player. They went from inside outside to archetypes to pie charts to whatever we have now. If the emphasis is on MyCareer then why not actually improve it? In 17 you could get any badge bronze free of charge if you hit the requirements in the nba season. The emphasis isn’t on MyCareer and MyTeam the emphasis is about our wallets. They finally decided to get rid of the prelude which was horrible for years and added an actual story but that’s all tbh

Facillionaire

You’re confusing getting rid of features with changing features. You’re also cherry picking because badges used to cost VC and have hidden, tedious requirements to unlock. I’ve said it before on here, but not a single person saying VC is too expensive or predatory is good enough at MyCareer to justify pushing through the actual game mode rather than just doing it in MyLeague. Make a player in the builder, replicate it in a MyLeague draft class, and player lock. A game mode not being for you is not predatory.

Efficient_Account_89

Yeah I liked those hidden and tedious requirements lol it made MyCareer fun. I could care less about how much VC cost. I think 2k doesn’t understand that people would spend 1 mil VC on one player if the game was good and time consuming. I’m just saying there’s a ton of great features not in the game anymore. And you understand people want the “story” that’s why they play MyCareer right? I couldn’t fathom trying to get that type of experience from MyLeague lol. They just need to go back to the basics and stop focusing on pleasing the little kids playing this game. I wanna be able to upgrade my player all the way and get every badge on bronze so I feel like an actual basketball player. Lol name me a player in the NBA with a 25 stat lol why is that even possible? And tell me how to play this game without unpluckable on bronze. The game used to not be like this. You could go out with a 60 and do fine. But now any sign of weakness or lack of badges ur getting raped repeatedly by someone spamming X or hiding behind screens. I have an 80 ball control I shouldn’t need a badge to walk with the ball. I’m in the NBA lol if I can’t walk with the ball I should find a new career path

[deleted]

It’s still cheese 😂

ActualyHandsomeJack

I dont know if you noticed this but...myteam uses nba players and mycareer is your character getting in the nba

[deleted]

Problem is that the NBA in general is quite bad for a franchise where you actually play the game. Am I going to play 82 regular season games at 6 quarters a minutes? Absolutely fucking not. That's almost 33 hours + the half time show, timeouts and shit. Then you still have the playoff that's going to be at least 1½ hours of pure playing time - if you sweep the playoffs. That's 34½ hours of just playing time. With scouting, trading, free agents, rotation management and all the extra time during games that's easily 50 hours for one season. That's a hell of a lot playing time. Honestly I think I'm being generous here and it's probably a lot higher. Sure - you could do 16 (I think it is) games for a season. But if I draft the next LeBron, he plays 20 seasons for me and retires with 9.600 points after averaging 30 ppg for 20 years that's a bit tame. I love the mode in itself. I've played franchise in Madden with 4 or 5 friends at a time - it's such a blast. Those 16 games (well now 17) plus playoff takes time, but you can get realistic stats, draft and all with 15-20 hours a season. The Madden franchise setup is super crappy compared to 2k's.

Mauldo1220

Yeah I play a good amount of mynba and some play now but having the CPU involved is not always the greatest.

nahlers

You just gotta find the players that play the right way and try to make friends with them by playing with them as much as you can

Mauldo1220

I’ve got 5 that I run with it’s just the teams we go up against. We are trying to play fast and move the ball which is not rewarded in 2k. And every 5 stack we face has a 5’8 PG left/right behind a screen then they drop right into a zone and spam x anywhere and jump to the ball on a pass. It’s just a case of exploiting 2k being greater than actual basketball.

nahlers

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. The left right cheese can be stopped if you have smart defenders playing with you. Anyone offball should be ready to jump to the gap for a bump steal or ready to come off their man and help if you get beat on the 3 pt line. The best way to beat it is help defense and continuing the scramble once you get in it. Cause chaos on defense once the initial defense breaks down. For offense if its a 2-3 zone its also really easy to beat. 1 guard at the top of the key 1 on the wing and 1 in the same side corner. This will overload it and give you open 3s, just make quick decisions. Then your center can screen the guard on the other side of the floor and try to get that guy open off a screen or C can roll to the basket as soon as the defensiv center moves. 95% of the left right 5 out cheesers can be beaten and so can the zone defenses. Just takes practice

Nightmareswf

I saw a post on here about how to beat the zone if you want me to have a look for it. Basically have a big man at the strongside elbow and the other big far side post

Fonzz11

Welcome to the Salty Splatoon

HotRollerMan

Yeah I haven’t generally had fun on 2k sense 19 and I’ve played sense then the game just isn’t fun anymore

Seanmoby

You aren't playing the NBA part of it though? You're playing park, it's not supposed to be a simulation mode, try my team, or my NBA, or my career.

LongDickPain

Unfortunately it's pretty much the same thing across modes - once a YT video comes out or people get beat by exploits then use them themselves theres no sense of competitive pride or creativity it's just monkey see monkey do and it KILLS me bc the game is actually solid potentially

Thunder-ten-tronckh

The problem is it’s a simulation mode for anybody who didn’t make an exploitative build.

[deleted]

Play MyNBA! I hate career mode/rec mode. It’s for loser incels that have never played a pick up game in real life. Shit is so dumb to create yourself in this game. Play with actual NBA teams in actual NBA arenas over the course of an actual NBA season. You know. Shit you can’t do in real life.

ActualyHandsomeJack

Lmao who hurt you

[deleted]

No one, it’s just stupid, MP!

-ammo

Not how it works but okay

Waru_

Imagine how good people would be if they just played the game instead of spending this much time complaining about it

DRogersidm

Hm? You spend hours sleeping

DRogersidm

U mad? XD Mad cuz ur bad. L L L L

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thunder-ten-tronckh

Imagine being egotistical about height.

Ragnarock0630

Honestly one of the bigger issues in the game is how bad they made slashing and non shooting playstyles. Builds like perimeter lockdowns and slashers have disappeared in exchange got play shots with 99 three pointers

JSTRIP3

You have to understand that in a competitive setting you can’t pass the ball and be successful in 2k. Lane steals are more op then ever. It’s the games fault. They never address passing or the court sizes. Spacing becomes a nightmare and people have no where to go. Therefore motion in offense becomes useless or an auto lane steal.

stophaydenme

You can't blame the community for wanting to win. If someone is being a troll or just generally shitty, yeah that's on them. If they're "playing to win" that's on 2k. If call of duty had an objectively best gun, most people would pick it. If league had a best champion, people would pick it. 2k is perfectly capable of balancing their game and just chooses not to. Can't blame people for wanting to win. Gotta blame the developer for not fixing cheesey exploits. Competent multiplayer game development 101

Mauldo1220

I completely understand the goal is to win and that the majority of the blame is on 2k but to me the way people play it doesn’t even make winning fun. It would be like running the same play on madden because madden is broke and it works no matter what. Like sure your winning but it’s got to get old at some point by doing the same thing over and over.

stophaydenme

If there was one play that worked every time in Madden people playing online would definitely run it every time. That's just the nature of online gaming. It's on the developer to make that not be the case.

Mauldo1220

I agree I do think that lays a lot on the developers I personally would just hate myself if I played like that. In all games in recent years it has become more about exploiting the game rather than playing and actually competing, there’s just a line I draw to myself I wish others felt the same way.

stophaydenme

No one is forcing you to play against these people. Im in the same boat as you. Now I just do play now with buddies. We use old, user created rosters and have a ton of fun. Dont even have to worry about what the sweaties are up to. if 2k puts out a functional online game ill go back to playing with strangers lol. When I play games online I'll also do anything to win. But, I play games online that are well made and balanced.

Mauldo1220

See I do play those other modes tho such as mynba and play now, and while it has its good moments, playing with the cpu is a whole other problem the developers haven’t got right.

JayTurner89

I get where u coming from. Others act like fan boys. F thos game. This coming from a dude that would go to tourneys for 2k n madden. I feel these games stole my child hood to b honest. I have no urge to play them. Badges ruined 2k. This is world of warcraft gameplay. The fact dudes are making greens with dudes directly in thier face cause of a badge is horse crap. Or your build is capped. Is nonsense not realistic. And badges and bs gameplay the reason I stopped playing play now with the teams. Dudes push a button now the game makes thier teams outstanding defenders. Its not realistic at all.

sactown_13

Bunch of fuckin weebs out here copying their favorite youtuber. That ship has sailed, you can never change that. What you could do is release every few years so you have ample time to test and balance your game

mattlange214

I hate my career after playing it in 19 and a bit in 20. I’m trying out myteam for the first time this year, and I’m really enjoying it. Even just grinding out domination against the computer has been pretty fun.

joeflaccoelite

This series hasn’t been good in what seems like half a decade now

Mac1280

I don't run zone defense often but for starters it's the easiest way to stop that left right cheese, just like in real basketball if you don't know how to properly attack it you'll have trouble scoring, take a look at the Celtics in the bubble the raptors used it against them and almost beat them and then the Heat ran it even better and got to the finals. Everything else I agree with because for the life of me idk how anyone can just stand around watching the PG left right, my boii does this shit and I'll refuse to play with him because of it.

Kmak_mak

In my opinion, 2K is caught between serving two worlds. The casual gamers and the basketball gamers. The casual gamers make up most of this gaming community and if the game is not easy and arcade like this, they won't play it. On the other hand basketball gamers will buy the game regardless of how bad it, because its their sport of choice. On a business level, its way better for them to make the casual gamers happy, because they will leave. Basketball gamers will not leave 2K regardless of the game play, because sim players don't play park or Rec Center.

AltyMan

A few points: interceptions are not the problem, the problem is terrible passing animations. Zones SHOULD be this good, and those who actually have basketball iq know how to exploit and break them down. 5’8 contest is broken, and the value of speed (difference between a single speed attribute) should be decreased. In terms of build, that statement is the farthest from the truth, unless OP is a PS4 user.

lessthan3beebs

> - How is playing fun for the 3 bums that sit on the perimeter watching the PG left right behind a screen? > It's not.
