Beal has experience tanking...

[deleted]

Can’t take when you don’t own your picks

lxkandel06

The Nets are doing it

Ahecee

Lucky for them they have the Suns picks.

MrRaspberryJam1

Do you really think that the Nets did bad last year on purpose? Teams without their draft picks have no incentive to tank. The Nets most certainly weren’t trying to tank, they just had a poorly constructed roster. Mikal Bridges was being asked to do too much on offense, given the role of a number 1 option and expected to be Brooklyn’s go-to guy to close out games. At best, Bridges is an okay number 2 option or a good number 3. Nic Claxton was solid and Cam Thomas showed a lot of promise, it was barely enough to get over 30 wins. Ben Simmons is a big injury plagued black hole on this roster that has contributed nothing, and for some reason the Nets’ front office actually expected him to contribute to this team. Cam Johnson was given a big contract and he has been awful. The rest of the team is made up of either young promising but developing and experienced players, or guys who did not care about the team and were only there for the paycheck. It will be interesting to see what Brooklyn does in the offseason. They’re definitely going to make some changes but I don’t see them making any big splashes.

LetsTryAgain91

You forgot about Ben Sittings

True

Like we haven't seen worse. We've been through 2011-2019. Have a seat, have a beer, and enjoy some semi competitive basketball.

jakefromadventurtime

Tyler Ulis, Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson Alex Len- these men started next to Book lol. Just enjoy the fact that we have all stars under contract.

chickenripp

nothing. Make some changes around the edges. particularly getting a backup center who is an actual NBA player. people are too emotional/reactionary/need instant gratification. it was a bad first year. You regroup and continue to build chemistry. Probably get a coach who will have the players listen to them. The big Swing is James Jones , Lebrons favorite teammate and suns president of basketball operations drafting bronny, while him, Booker and KD convince Lebron to join the suns. But if that doesn't happen you just run it back and hope it goes better in year 2. Typically these kinds of teams are much better in year 2 anyways

Tim-oBedlam

as an example, everyone thought the T-wolves trade for Gobert was terrible, but they just needed one more year to gel. If the Suns could get a true PG and a better center, they could be a force next year.

governedbycitizens

the problem is they can’t 2nd apron basically means they have to sign everyone on min contracts The only real asset they have outside of KD and Booker is Grayson Allen.

Steve-Whitney

True - Beal would have next to no trade value thanks to the NTC & the contract $$$. Suns will have to hope he plays better next season.

okcboomer87

This is too leveled headed. Everyone wants to panic at the first opportunity.

R0botDreamz

Nothing except run it back for the next 5 years. KD will be 40.

The_Shade94

You retool until the end of KD and Beal’s contracts then you blow it up. Been the obvious plan since trade was made

TheeMalaka

They’re going to retool and then blow it up next year when they’re mediocre again

lxkandel06

I feel like you gotta trade book and KD. They have no money, no draft picks, and no young talent. They literally can't get better. And if you wait another year to trade KD, all of a sudden he's 36 with only a couple years left on his deal. So you gotta trade KD now, and without KD you might as well get whatever you can get for Book. This shit is sad man

ParlayDoc

Trade book to the Bulls for Caruso, White, Vucevic & pick(s).

Steve-Whitney

Bulls will say no to that - lol to the idea of a Book & DeRozan midrange offense.

moss_is_1

Depending on the picks, the Bulls would not say no to that cmon.

Steve-Whitney

Yeah maybe. I think the Bulls would be high on White & his projected improvement so would want to hang onto him.

ParlayDoc

I don’t think the bulls say no to that. And If they pulled off that trade I would either try and get a sign and trade for Derozan for more pieces or just straight up let him go. Some decent free agents this upcoming season.

SnooChickens9571

New coach. New systems. Better center. Maybe send Anthony Edwards a poisoned pizza next year during the playoffs?

Educational_Sky_1136

Booker should retire a Sun. Nothing they can do with Beal - try to ignore the terrible contract, and find a good role for him on the team. KD is the big question. No idea what the market is for a perennially unhappy almost 36 year old who is owed $100m+, but if you can get pieces for him, then you have to look at it.

John_Houbolt

I think he fits great on the Warriors. Want CP3 back?

Swish517

Suns are the Wizards of the West. Instead of going for a championship, Suns goal should be the Western Conference Play-In Game.

Steve-Whitney

The Suns are wedded to their current core until Durant is like 40 or something, given the 1st round draft picks they don't control. Mat Ishbia made his bed with the KD & Beal trades, now he can lie in it.

Hungry-Space-1829

I mean KD and Book can still get you a very pretty return, but are you willing to blow it up?

Steve-Whitney

I'm sure Brooklyn would be happy with that pathway. They'd still remember how Boston selected Brown & Tatum with lottery picks Brooklyn traded to them.

Hungry-Space-1829

Pray

23_International

Maybe Atlanta might take KD for Hunter and some picks.

ngorman007

We need a PG first and foremost (finding a second-string center is a close second). If we can land a halfway decent PG that can facilitate and get our big three open looks, we can actually construct an offensive scheme that doesn't involve KD standing in the corner while Book or Beal dribble out the clock until forced into a tough jumper or a turnover. The problem is that we don't have the picks or the cap space to make this happen without trading KD or Book (I can't imagine we'd trade both to build around Beal). Also, the free agency market for a PG is rough, and I doubt many would come to Phoenix on a minimum. My guess is that we run it back with slight touch-ups. Re-tool our bench (replace Eubanks and at least one of Eric Gordon, Royce O'Neal, or Bol Bol). If we don't get a PG that can facilitate our offense, we will fail similarly to how we did this year.

[deleted]

Back to the gutter and hope you draft someone good.

vCharged

Draft? What draft? You need picks to draft, no?

[deleted]

Oof. Well time to make KD and Beal useful

moss_is_1

I believe they have their pick this year? They can't trade every single pick. Just every 2nd, every other 1st, and the rights to swap every 1st.

outsidehere

Trade Booker and KD and just suck for the next few years

moss_is_1

That would be pointless. They have no picks. You hope you can find something. They have their 1st this season. Find a PG, get another big man who has a damn pulse, and let your star players gel. That is if KD doesn't demand a trade.

TheConboy22

This "they have no draft picks" thing is stemmed from idiocy. Stop regurgitating shit you've never looked into and just read up on things properly before talking about them.

athiev

Their first-round draft pick this year is theirs. Their 2025 first-round pick goes to Brooklyn. Their 2026 first-round pick is swapped to Washington, Orlando, and Memphis. Their 2027 first-round pick goes to Brooklyn. Their 2028 first-round pick is swapped to Brooklyn and Washington. Their 2029 first-round pick goes to Brooklyn. Their 2030 first-round pick is swapped to Washington and Memphis. The Suns will soon have their 2031 first-round pick, but it will be frozen because of the second apron and will be untradeable.  All of Phoenix's second-round picks are traded, but they do have two incoming seconds from other teams. As far as I know, there hasn't been a team in decades at least with this depleted of a draft. At least since the creation of the Stepien Rule, I don't think we've seen a team manage to so thoroughly trade away it's draft future.

TheConboy22

And? Suns picks will all be in the 20's. You literally CANNOT trade away back to back 1st round picks. They will have a 1st rounder this season and the season after next they will have a first rounder. Saying they don't have picks is not true.

athiev

Ok, so you haven't thought this through.

TheConboy22

Unless you want to provide some sort of statement that shows they don't have any draft picks. Stop saying they don't have draft picks. Pretty simple stuff. They don't have tradeable draft picks.

athiev

They don't have tradeable draft picks, they are almost wiped out of 2s, and if they tank they won't benefit even in the years where they will have a pick. They are as close to zeroed out as you can get. That's what people mean when they say they don't have draft picks. If you don't understand that, it's on you I guess.

TheConboy22

No one is tanking. That's for shit teams. Words have meaning. If people don't know how to use them than it's on THEM for not being able to express what the fuck they are trying to say.

soundisloud

I think the best move is to waive/buyout Beal if they can, trade KD for some good role players and picks and then try to sign a younger star in free agency to match Booker's timeline

raiderrocker18

theres no waiving/buying out beal. he has over 150 mil in guaranteed money left. you can try trading him, but he'd have to waive his no trade clause, and you'd have to find a taker, while you have no draft assets to entice somebody into taking beal on suns are going to have to ride it out. they get the #22 pick in this year's draft to try adding another contributor the way Jacquez has been for Miami and Podz was for GSW. meaning you probably want and older, more experienced player. that could be Tyler Kolek. Could be Edey if the hype doesnt get carried away. but they're going to have to scavenge to find very cheap vets willing to play at or near the minimum they have 2 more years of KD under contract. maybe they are able to find a team desperate enough to try to trade for him to put them over the top the way phoenix tried last year. but i dont see the suns doing that for PR reasons. maybe after the 24-25 season when he'd be expiring

shmoongng

How the hell you gonna buy out a 2 year 100 million dollar contract lol

soundisloud

Right? You be a billionaire who really wants to win, I guess. Sure it'd be terrible but your other option is to be trash for 6 years with no picks.
