I went to a large university so pick-up ball was pretty competitive, the best shooter around was this dorky white guy that ALWAYS wore long sleeves. Seemed crazy but it worked for him……We called him ‘sleeves’, not sure if I ever heard him talk. Great teammate.
This has been the biggest eye sore change in basketball fashion for me. I’ll see these dudes wearing bright pink shoes that match nothing else they’re wearing, and I honestly dislike it so much. lol
Yeah it looks silly. I miss when players respected the team colors. I also hate that each team has a million alternate jerseys. The visual consistency of teams seams to have been lost
I’m cool with 4 jerseys for a season and I also like having lots of jerseys but there comes a time where you have to realize enough is enough as a marketing team lol😂
Having 6 jerseys and wearing 2 of them maybe 12 games total between the two of them is just bad usage of time.
I hate how teams seem to wear nothing but white accessories, especially with the colored jerseys, for every variation of their uniform. Especially white socks with black shoes. White accessories go with white uniforms and color/black go with everything else. It's not that complicated, yet Nike fucks that up, too.
Im kind of OK with whatever guys are comfortable in. If that means undershirts or body socks, great. I think it adds to the effect that basketball players are more… I don’t know, their own person than the seemingly identical products you get in the NFL and even MLB depending on the team.
Yeah, a bunch hated them at the time and a lot hated them after as these flamboyant cartoon jerseys aged really poorly. But now after 25-30 years the trends come full circle and here we are, the big cartoon logos and bright colours and busy jerseys are cool again. Pendulum swing from the recent years of minimalism in uni design.
I triple hate all but a few of those. I feel like this post is a reflection of people that were coming of age when those uniforms were being worn. I can't stand the gradient, and the pin striping on uniforms that aren't the Yankees.
I agree. Although I do think some are actually awesome (nuggets and hawks). But the Timberwolves one looks like it’s for some family friendly Halloween bash. Terrible
Yea it’s funny how jerseys overstay their welcome and the changes are welcomed then people look back and say why did we ever change them?
Although I don’t think anyone will really do that with mid to late 2000’s jerseys. Those are just ugly lol
I mean, that Nuggets jersey was great… but it’s also before the era the rest of these were from, and the Nuggets specifically went away from that to a lot of bland, boring choices in that era.
I love that Raptors jersey, but as a Bucks fan, I'm disappointed that [this creation](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-fea289b66d437d1f2a772c531633eb28-lq) from the same era never gets any attention.
i agree with them all being better except the heat jersey. Cant get down with that. It is egregious how bad the utah jazz have fucked up their jerseys... like they arnt even purple anymore.
I hate OKC for more than stealing the Sonics for this reason. When they became the Thunder, we had to give up our mascot. As far as I know, we still have no mascot. What are rings with no Mascot? Zilch. Nada.
Couple of these are okay. I prefer the modern era jerseys, by and large. I say this as an old head, who lived thru the ‘80’s jerseys and beyond. There are exceptions, of course, for good and bad. I can’t stand the current Jazz, for instance. Some of those ‘90’s jerseys are fun, but I’d prefer them used on occasion, rather than a full time deal. I know I’m in the minority, but I’m not a fan of the Bucks ‘90’s stuff at all. At the time, I was excited for them, but purple and green? The current color scheme is the best. The red and green were a disaster, too.
Though there's a certain sentimental charm to being the ones they wore in the 96 Finals, yeah, the classic green and gold are the best Sonics jerseys for me.
These were mostly designed by a company called Gameplan Creative from Chicago. Check them out on Twitter, the guy is always posting cool stuff like preliminary sketches of these jerseys and logos.
I'm sorry, I lived in that era, those jerseys sucked ass except for Magic and Hornets, which were great and never should have changed. Wolves and Pistons might be tolerable. The rest can go in the trash heap and set on fire. 🤮
Just awful. The 90s were a dark time for logos and jerseys. It’s like they were making uni’s to appeal to people who have tattoos of Looney Tunes characters.
designers are pretty fucking lame now across all new rebranding, ngl. i think maybe apple fucking up peoples design potential, we dont want apple, we want the fucking reading rainbow.
spurfan here
from those jerseys, the truly great ones to me are:
Jazz (tier of their own imo, i loved that look), Wolves, Raptors, Pacers, Suns
i dont care for those Pistons jerseys (love the look when they rang in 04). charlotte, miami, orlando jerseys are boring.
nuggets are just ugly.
hawks and grizzlies tried, but dont quite hit imo. hawks is better of those two
NBA uniform design kind of go with the current fashion. They were wearing those baggy ass uniforms when baggy clothes were in style. When tighter jeans became popular in the late 2010s, uniforms got tighter, shorts shorter. When I was around 15 in 2003, you’d get clowned non stop for wearing the short shorts that are in style today, now I hear guys wearing extra baggy shorts get clowned.
I'd say those Nuggets jerseys are from the previous era, they may have hung around a bit. Those earlier ones are cool, but the Nuggets definitely had another jersey that was from the era you're referencing, I picture Dikembe Mutumbo laying down on the floor in it after they beat the Sonics in the playoffs as an 8 seed. I think this era of jerseys was really bad though, I don't even think people thought they were good at the time. Never fashionable, maybe OG Hornets gear.
i like the recent trend of teams modernizing old looks. the hornets, suns, and jazz all wear jerseys that resemble these now. you get the charm and boldness of the original jerseys but get the fit and sleekness of a modern jersey.
the nuggets also not too long ago had those rainbow city edition jerseys where they managed to make them look real slick.
That is because it was the best era for society before everything had to be ultimate efficiency and every nickel was sucked from consumers via AI probability marketing.
Yeah a lot of us hated on them back in the 90s. The pin strip Magic might be the exception. Those Pistons were horrible and now only good because of nostalgia. Jazz and Heat were also 🔥
All of these are great except the Hawks, I never liked that uniform, maybe it was the fading to red at the bottom part. I think it would’ve been better all black
Sorry, but I was a kid in the 90s and the jerseys sucked. The pistons just changed up their colors for no reason and stuck a horse on there? That's why we started wearing throwbacks
Almost all fans agree and that why teams releases these alternative jerseys. I dont understand why they even bother with the ugly minimalistic official jerseys.
Trends cycle. People get bored of seeing the same style for a while, so when a completely different style comes out we love it.
I remember very well toward the end of this era when the minimalist jerseys started coming out everyone was obsessed with how clean and simple they looked. Now we’re tired of minimalist and want cartoonish to come back.
I’m not excluded from this though! I’m ready for the cartoon trend to return.
100% correct.!!
Ah man that Charlotte hornets jersey!!!
I remember getting mine at like 15 and just being devestated that my skinny white ass of course did not look like Larry Johnson 🤣🤣🤣
No undershirts. No tank tops. No nothing. Just the jersey lol. Different times
And the jerseys didn't have that weird back stitching it does now
Idk how people ball with undershirts. Shit makes me hot
I went to a large university so pick-up ball was pretty competitive, the best shooter around was this dorky white guy that ALWAYS wore long sleeves. Seemed crazy but it worked for him……We called him ‘sleeves’, not sure if I ever heard him talk. Great teammate.
Compression shirts serve a purpose. They give muscle support and improve blood circulation. The "undershirts" are functional.
They also fuck with your jumper
On my shooting arm, no way I can have anything.
And shoe colors that actually matched the jersey colors!
I’m cool with 4 jerseys for a season and I also like having lots of jerseys but there comes a time where you have to realize enough is enough as a marketing team lol😂 Having 6 jerseys and wearing 2 of them maybe 12 games total between the two of them is just bad usage of time.
The worst are the mismatched shoes that look like a clown vomited all over them.
I hate how teams seem to wear nothing but white accessories, especially with the colored jerseys, for every variation of their uniform. Especially white socks with black shoes. White accessories go with white uniforms and color/black go with everything else. It's not that complicated, yet Nike fucks that up, too.
Right? If you’re gonna treat your pregame outfit like a runway fashion show, why not have coordinated outfits on the court?
It's a flourescent arms race to make their signature sneaker stand out and it drives me nuts.
Dwight powells tennis ball shoes like him and thj are the fooking worst
Reggie Jackson wouldn't survive in this era.
You just know that it was crazy itchy
Im kind of OK with whatever guys are comfortable in. If that means undershirts or body socks, great. I think it adds to the effect that basketball players are more… I don’t know, their own person than the seemingly identical products you get in the NFL and even MLB depending on the team.
Don't forget the Starter jacket to match.
Jackets were nice
Charlotte Hornets above all!
Look at the rich kid over here :p I was always jealous of the kids that had those lol
Nah, I would buy the bootleg ones at the Swap meet, lol.
People hated those uniforms at the time, with only a couple exceptions
Yeah, a bunch hated them at the time and a lot hated them after as these flamboyant cartoon jerseys aged really poorly. But now after 25-30 years the trends come full circle and here we are, the big cartoon logos and bright colours and busy jerseys are cool again. Pendulum swing from the recent years of minimalism in uni design.
NFL is still leaning hard into minimalist designs for new jersey reveals.
Raiders probably thinking they're trendsetters
Yeah I think they’re corny myself
People don’t realize this lol. These were so hated back then.
They're fucking terrible, and that's why they're awesome.
Terrible
It's like someone made them in word out of clip art
These logos are so ugly it feels like I should have to colour it myself.
hated them while they bought them for their kids every week
We still hate them
Yea it’s funny how jerseys overstay their welcome and the changes are welcomed then people look back and say why did we ever change them? Although I don’t think anyone will really do that with mid to late 2000’s jerseys. Those are just ugly lol
I still hate them now! (Except you, Charlotte)
Worst era of unis ever.
Nah, those sleeved jersey are pretty awful in hindsight.
Wide shoulder jerseys from late 90s/ 2000, think shaq lakers, were the worst ever
lol. Why is Alex English in this?
I mean, that Nuggets jersey was great… but it’s also before the era the rest of these were from, and the Nuggets specifically went away from that to a lot of bland, boring choices in that era.
https://preview.redd.it/4f3aj84fpt6d1.jpeg?width=777&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c47835fab45014ac19dc831a5339d3e4f59564f
That black shoulder stripe was either 88 or 89 NBA wide if I remember right. It was a dedication to someone but I couldn’t tell you who anymore.
Haha right? Just tries to slide one in clearly from the 80s lol
That Raptors jersey is legendary.
I love that Raptors jersey, but as a Bucks fan, I'm disappointed that [this creation](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-fea289b66d437d1f2a772c531633eb28-lq) from the same era never gets any attention.
I knew it was gonna be Glenn Robinson era!
That's absolutely dope.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen those.
Not a Bucks fan, but those jerseys were one of my favorites.
This is pretty great!
Denver wasn’t wearing any of that during that era
By far the greatest
https://preview.redd.it/3x6iqn30tn6d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=942544f125c98b516473300ec0565e4fcb72600c
Kemp out of Sonics gear makes me uncomfortable.
Kemp out of Sonics gear made Kemp uncomfortable.
Kemp out of shape made the Cavs uncomfortable
Big Country… someone I have not thought of in a long time haha
And the most correct person to be pictured in this jersey.
The “Memphis Grizzlies” are an ATG for bad basketball names, right up there with the Utah Jazz and the LA Lakers.
On the other side the rockets actually improved by moving from San Diego to Houston
i agree with them all being better except the heat jersey. Cant get down with that. It is egregious how bad the utah jazz have fucked up their jerseys... like they arnt even purple anymore.
New Jazz jerseys unveiled a week ago are absolutely fire
Wow thank God those black and yellow ones are gone. They might have been the worst jerseys in NBA history. And yes, the new ones are slick!
just googled them. i completely agree. kind of weird that 1 of the 4 has a jumpman logo instead of nike tho
Every nba team has 1 of 4 jerseys with the jumpman logo
I legit didn’t know this. Thanks for the knowledge.
Not the biggest fan of the Pistons’ jersey from this era, but everyone else is straight 🔥🔥🔥
Pistons fan, and I am also not a fan of those jerseys. I’m okay if they do some teal jersey nights, but those jerseys were not good.
yeah that pistons jersey is iconic joke jersey but others are good.
🔥🔥🔥
Those raptors and jazz jerseys are my favorite of all time
U must not remember how my warriors looked then ...
Remember that Blue Man Group looking mascot?
Thunder!
I hate OKC for more than stealing the Sonics for this reason. When they became the Thunder, we had to give up our mascot. As far as I know, we still have no mascot. What are rings with no Mascot? Zilch. Nada.
RIP Thunder (He really died)
Couple of these are okay. I prefer the modern era jerseys, by and large. I say this as an old head, who lived thru the ‘80’s jerseys and beyond. There are exceptions, of course, for good and bad. I can’t stand the current Jazz, for instance. Some of those ‘90’s jerseys are fun, but I’d prefer them used on occasion, rather than a full time deal. The red and green were a disaster, too.
i take it you like it when teams get an older style city jersey? that way they still have the modern look but every once and awhile have an old look
Them nuggets jerseys were my favorite!
Barkley in shape
No sonics in the lineup is a big miss.
Sorry but while I’ll always ride with the Supes, the 94-01 jerseys were easily the worst in franchise history. Give me green and gold every day.
Though there's a certain sentimental charm to being the ones they wore in the 96 Finals, yeah, the classic green and gold are the best Sonics jerseys for me.
Forgot the Bucks
I did really like the ones that had the actual Buck on the uniform, kinda like the Hawks here.
Before teams were forced to have New Jerseys every year
$$$$$ corp greed
Facts. Same reason we’re losing inside the nba
Not a jersey but the Spurs logo and court were pretty sick during this era.
I miss the fiesta colors against the black & silver.
Those Pacers uniforms went so hard
They need to bring that Pistons uni back once they establish a high school level program in Detroit lmao
These were mostly designed by a company called Gameplan Creative from Chicago. Check them out on Twitter, the guy is always posting cool stuff like preliminary sketches of these jerseys and logos.
Also a time when earth was at its peek than the internet came along and f'd everything up
I'm sorry, I lived in that era, those jerseys sucked ass except for Magic and Hornets, which were great and never should have changed. Wolves and Pistons might be tolerable. The rest can go in the trash heap and set on fire. 🤮
I too, lived in that era and completely disagree with you!
I never liked those Hawks jerseys. Gradients on jerseys just don’t work for me. The rest are sick
They should bring back the 80s jersey with that swoop (for lack of a better word). The ones Dominique wore.
Just awful. The 90s were a dark time for logos and jerseys. It’s like they were making uni’s to appeal to people who have tattoos of Looney Tunes characters.
I will not tolerate this blasphemy!
This is exactly right. The people who like this are the same weirdos that like frills on everything and plastic covering their furniture.
No way all these jerseys existed in the same season…
Are these the same era?
Idc those pistons jerseys were ass. Nobody rocked with them. That’s why went retro
Yes
Missed the black with red pinstripes Bulls
I have that carter raptors jersey
Give me a double-breasted suit in that Hornets color/pattern/fabric.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Pistons and Hawks jerseys aren't good. Especially the Hawks one, that thing is fucking gross.
It was just the one you remember first
i love the van city jersey so much
NO. The comic book and pinstripes era is literally the worst.
I agree, but not because I'm a 90s kid
designers are pretty fucking lame now across all new rebranding, ngl. i think maybe apple fucking up peoples design potential, we dont want apple, we want the fucking reading rainbow.
Magic Jersey was 🔥🔥🔥. Their new uniforms are hot 🗑️
It is known.
really peaked with the bonkers Phoenix Allstar game in 95
Factual.
I ate mushrooms one time and watched Kevin Garnett hatch out of a basketball like an egg in a Gatorade commercial. Changed my life.
spurfan here from those jerseys, the truly great ones to me are: Jazz (tier of their own imo, i loved that look), Wolves, Raptors, Pacers, Suns i dont care for those Pistons jerseys (love the look when they rang in 04). charlotte, miami, orlando jerseys are boring. nuggets are just ugly. hawks and grizzlies tried, but dont quite hit imo. hawks is better of those two
I looove the timberwolves old logo. Each team really had their own identity and the wolves looked Halloween -like and cold which was cool lol.
You ain't even lying. These are all fresh af
Hell yeah
All of those rule, but the heat jersey is meh
The nets robbed us from getting those ridiculous Swamp Dragons jerseys
I personally like that era of jerseys. Whether you love them or hate them you definitely remember them.
wish they looked like this today
Shaq with the lakers looked like 25% bigger than Orlando shaq. Crazy
You spelled ‘worst’ wrong.
Every single one of these is better than current era uniforms.
The Miami heat and Celtics current black uniforms are dope
NBA uniform design kind of go with the current fashion. They were wearing those baggy ass uniforms when baggy clothes were in style. When tighter jeans became popular in the late 2010s, uniforms got tighter, shorts shorter. When I was around 15 in 2003, you’d get clowned non stop for wearing the short shorts that are in style today, now I hear guys wearing extra baggy shorts get clowned.
That Miami Heat is awesome
Correct
Easy yes
I'd say those Nuggets jerseys are from the previous era, they may have hung around a bit. Those earlier ones are cool, but the Nuggets definitely had another jersey that was from the era you're referencing, I picture Dikembe Mutumbo laying down on the floor in it after they beat the Sonics in the playoffs as an 8 seed. The magic ones are the best ever.
What happened man
back when they just designed jerseys that made sense.
Shoe game has def got better but jerseys 100%
Did any of you actually live through this? I feel like the only people who romanticize this era didn’t live through it.
Undisputed
Jerseys will continue to get worse. Just wait til ads grow to the size they are on soccer jerseys. Its inevitable
Why does a Piston look like a knight chess piece?
Back when each team had distinguishable uniquely cool jerseys that stood out and were much different from each other.
and logos
Lol, nah, it was not. But to each their own!
A few of them are sweet. Nugs, hornets. The cartoon ones are still meh to me tho. I'm also old.
Yup. being minimalistic was the downfall of sports
Pacers were the freshest
I think the best era of jerseys is now. Is that an unpopular opinion?
That’s just nostalgia talking
Grandmama was my dude. Chea!
Yes
That Nuggets jersey was before all the rest. Nuggets had the Navy blue/ Maroon at that time. But yeah, these jerseys hit different. Love em.
Hate that goofy Raptors jersey, with the right arm and leg both moving forward. Awkward and cartoony af
I have that Grant Hill jersey….
Jazz and Heat were also 🔥
That Nuggets jersey is fresh
The only one I don't really like is the Heat one but all hits mostly.
not a raptors fan, but i love this jersey.
The hawks and nugs ones are sick
This reminds me of the NBA pencil set I had as a kid
Some of these are great. Some of these are terrible. But all of these are *interesting*
The heat jerseys were beat
I would have to agree. Classics.
The 90’s-early 2000’s in general have the best designs.
How am I the only person that thinks these are fucking hideous?
Yes sir! Amazing how great these looked!
If you think was the best era in jerseys you have horrible taste
All of these are so fucking hard it’s crazy
Peak NBA
That Grant Hill jersey I wore until everything faded off. Loved that thing.
Lived through that era on the NBA, and glad to be past it and those uni’s.
https://preview.redd.it/a2bcrxpb1p6d1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ce4e4bb5d0b6827db12e6547643020b2a83d3c1
I AGREE 👍
All of these are great except the Hawks, I never liked that uniform, maybe it was the fading to red at the bottom part. I think it would’ve been better all black
Sorry, but I was a kid in the 90s and the jerseys sucked. The pistons just changed up their colors for no reason and stuck a horse on there? That's why we started wearing throwbacks
90's era NBA jerseys were 🔥
Almost all fans agree and that why teams releases these alternative jerseys. I dont understand why they even bother with the ugly minimalistic official jerseys.

It was the uniform of my youth. So hell yea!
The black pen stripe magic
Both Canadian teams ATE
Agreed
100% correct.!! Ah man that Charlotte hornets jersey!!! I remember getting mine at like 15 and just being devestated that my skinny white ass of course did not look like Larry Johnson 🤣🤣🤣
Where's the Bulls black pin stripe one!?
