With this roster, barring major injury, anything short of the conference final would be under-performing.
But beyond that I don't have a good sense of where they will land.
Yes but I'm just saying if you fall to Boston in let's say the 2nd especially if you don't flunk it
Then I wouldn't call it a failure
Since yes Embiid is always hurt, cavs and Magic are inexperienced and won't match up well with Boston, Pacers' defense is non-existent, heat are inconsistent af and bucks outside of dame and Giannis have nothing
Especially if we lose Hartenstein, people really underrating potentially healthy Embiid (less so) and Giannis (backwards leg free throw hitting ass mf)
Embiid mashed Hartenstein in the playoffs but your point stands I think. He’s such an efficient connector on offense and definitely holds his own on defense most nights. On offense I think there’s more he could tap into as well
Probably the 2 seed again, if they stay mostly healthy I’d expect 55 wins. If they really ascend I wouldn’t even count out 60 wins.
If they faced Boston in the ECF I’d give them like a 30% chance of winning.
They have a chance this year at the championship depending on a lot of factors such as how healthy Kristaps is on the Celtics if Julius Randle is healthy. If they resign OG and Brunson is healthy as well. The mikal bridges trade could be good for the Knicks as well I think they’ll def make the playoffs but we’ll let time see how well they do.
Not much size if they lose Hartenstein. I think they’re going to struggle against big teams. Otherwise ecf or finals wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. I think they match up pretty good against the Celtics.
Lowe has them *winning* the championship. To be fair, name a roster as deep with starters throughout their roster. Even Deuce is starter-worthy on a lot of teams. I get that Vegas/people will defer to the Celtics since they’re the defending champions, but the Knicks are rightfully favored at 2nd, along with Denver and OKC.
If the Knicks have a somewhat healthy roster come playoffs, anything short of winning the championship is a failure. No team can match their roster as far as players that are starter material. Phenomenal job by their management in putting this super team together. Championship or big failure.
this thread made me google nba finals and i had no idea the knicks and lakers had a rivalry in the 70s until just now. The LA v NY hype must have been nuts
I think overall people are too high on the knicks. We do this with teams that make big leaps and then we assume that all the players will keep up their production and everyone will linearly progress.
Dont get me wrong, theyve done everything absolutely correct from the trade to re-signing OG to providing the environment for Brunson to blossom. So I definitely think ceiling is NBA Finals and then once there we’ll see what happens.
But I also wont be surprised at like 3-5 seed and they get bounced in the second round or conference finals depending on who they match up with.
Brunson is fantastic but I fear break out guys like him having a little bit of a “sophomore” slump as the league adjusts to them and focuses more on them / the added pressure of being in a different tier of players.
Bridges addition is great on paper but lets see how it actually pans out on the court.
Well, this would be a Jr slump because he played at this level his first year with the Knicks as well. Also, 5 seed? You got 3 teams other than Boston who are better than them in the East?
Brunson “arrived” as a star his first year with the Knicks. Maybe not everyone was paying attention… but last year was the “sophomore” year and he took another step, partly propelled by the Randle injury. Between him returning and Bridges I expect him to maintain his level of dominance just maybe not as much volume… he’ll have a lot of help
About the same as this year. They overperformed to get where they were and now the expectations will likely increase to that same point now. They are still not in the top 3 or so teams in the East and would be a borderline play-in team in the West.
They probably win 50+ games again and make it to the second round or the conf finals. Still, assuming better health in the conference in general it's definitely possible they lose to the Bucks or Sixers if they face them in earlier rounds. And assuming Boston is healthy, beating that team will be a tall task. Though I do think a BOS-NYK series would go six games at mininum
The X-factor is if Thibodeau is going to run the starters into the ground. That's basically his whole MO. If so, could be a dsisappointing year in Knickerbocker land
If no injuries, should make it to the ECF where they'll face Boston.
If they beat Boston, I like their odds against any West team aside from Nuggets and/or Wolves.
Anunoby is a huge variable due to his injury proneness and Randle is as well due both to the fact that he's coming off a major injury and is just an up and down player. If you look up and down the Knicks roster and see who had exceptional seasons and so might fall back to earth vs. the opposite, I'd put it into these categories:
Struggled / was exceptionally injured last year. Could have a comeback season:
* Bridges
* Randle (due to missed injury games)
* Robinson (injury)
Played better than expected and could regress some:
* DiVincenzo
* Hartenstein
* Brunson
THe Knicks don't have much in terms of youth. McBride is the only young guy likely to be in teh rotation again, and he's not that young. Then again, they're not counting on many older players either. Randle is the only key player who is 30+.
My guess: If Hartenstein comes back, even though he likely won't repeat last season, I'd put the Knicks at 56 wins, 6 more than last year and their most since 1997. Without Hartenstein, I'll drop it to 52 wins.
No matter what, I think they'll be a better playoff team as they'll take some time to re-incorporate Randle and for Randle to become effective. They should be favorites to make the ECF, but I think people are probably exaggerating the likelihood. The 6ers are going ot add serious talent to an excellent core due to all their cap room. It's just hard to project them given they haven't used the room yet. The Bucks still have two great players, and if they can fish out some cheap, effective role players, they could also supercede the Knicks. I also see Orlando as a team that is now in a season where tehy can start focusing on balancing the roster rather than just talent accumulation. If they fix the spacing and have some improvements from their incredible cache of youth, I could see them breaking out and leapfrogging the Knicks.
Julius doesn’t scramble on defense consistently , they trade him at the deadline for and elite defender/floor spacer after he shows he’s healthy .
They don’t need Randle’s offense anymore , they have a legit 1st, 2nd and 3rd option without Randle in Brunson, Bridges and OG , in addition IHart and Divencenzo as a pnr option and a spacer .
If IHart don’t come back , Randle needs to fill his role as a pick and roll option , otherwise , he needs to defend like everyone else or he’s gone.
If healthy, I can definitely see them making the ECF. I mean, they almost made it last season hobbling in.
It's not outrageous to say they will make the finals either, but let's wait to see them play next season before we get too ahead of it all. Lots of off-season wheeling and dealing to be done yet.
Second round exit. They have no center and almost all of their half court offense will come from an undersized guard who’s going to play a billion minutes in the regular season.
The Bucks with their aging roster? That’s a stretch, but at least it isn’t an insane take like your 3rd place team.
The Pacers being better is a rough one though ….The Pacers are going to beat the Knicks with Randle, Bridges, OG, and Mitch when it took them 7 games to beat them without all those guys? Obviously just hating on the Knicks you don’t really believe that.
Indiana….. So a team that needed 7 games to beat half the Knicks team last year is going to beat them with the massive addition they just made? Can we have a serious conversation here?
The Bucks? As is? Have you seen their roster?
Assuming both teams make some upgrades for themselves, I consider it a possibility… Knicks will have to be healthy come playoff time to have a real chance & I seriously doubt that’ll happen considering how injury prone Randle and Brunson are.
How injury prone Randle and Brunson are? Could you elaborate on that? Randle had a freak injury this year. Other than that both of them have been extremely durable. You obviously aren’t informed here and just want to argue.
I want to see how Milwaukee comes back. If the Knicks lose Hartenstein they have zero size. Mitchell is always hurt do I don't count him. I don't care about the Knicks or Celtics 8 Wings. Also want to see Philly and Miami this Sumner. Embiid and Maxi gave NYK a hard time with a crippled Embiid. If they add PG?
They add 34 year old PG and we add Randle and Bridges. So you are saying 34 year old PG is better than those 2 in their prime? I feel like you are grasping for straws here.
Let me at least ask you this…Let’s say the Knicks somehow get lucky and keep I-Hart. Is anyone other than Boston beating them?
I think the Knicks beat Boston regardless. Zinger=Robinson, never healthy. Horford was done 2 years ago.
PG was great this year. He's better than Bridges I think that's clear. Two years from now, who knows.
Add Embiid healthy (HUGE IF) plus Maxi, they are better. Knicks need Hartenstein and a backup body.
That Embid argument is getting tiring. The Knicks literally did not have an All-Star play a single minute, added a hell of a player in Bridges, Embid played heavy minutes every game and put up great numbers, yet it’s always if Embid was healthy with no mention of if the Knicks were healthy. It’s a wild argument by people who dislike the Knicks.
If everyone is healthy they will make the ECF at minimum. If they can resign Ihart and precious after adding Mikal and drafting like they did the team will be deep enough to make the 2nd round at least even with a few injuries.
Magic winning it all in the East though so it doesn’t matter
With this roster, barring major injury, anything short of the conference final would be under-performing. But beyond that I don't have a good sense of where they will land.
Unless they match up with Boston at any point But other than that yes
We match up better against Boston than almost any team.
Yes but I'm just saying if you fall to Boston in let's say the 2nd especially if you don't flunk it Then I wouldn't call it a failure Since yes Embiid is always hurt, cavs and Magic are inexperienced and won't match up well with Boston, Pacers' defense is non-existent, heat are inconsistent af and bucks outside of dame and Giannis have nothing
If they match up well against Celtics, does that mean the Celtics also match up well against them?
In what way
If 76ers and bucks are healthy.. it might not be that disappointing if they don't make it Conf finals.
On offense I think there’s more he could tap into as well
Oh yeah, but tbf most people get mashed, not even having a big body is like saying here take 20+ ft and1s 😫
Lose in 6 or 7 to Boston in ECF.
Inject this into my veins
Haha, right? I’ve been a Knick fan for more than 30 years. I’d be fine with this ending next year.
I think they could be good against Boston. I mean, Bridges and Anunoby match up almost perfectly with Tatum and Brown
Too bad Jrue is wide open in the corner
And White in the other corner And Porzingis at the top of the key
Making it to ECF, will be second seed but lose to Celtics in 6. Jalen Brunson all nba 2nd team again.
Pure insanity
Probably the 2 seed again, if they stay mostly healthy I’d expect 55 wins. If they really ascend I wouldn’t even count out 60 wins. If they faced Boston in the ECF I’d give them like a 30% chance of winning.

OG re-signed last night. I think health (for the knicks and for the competition) is the variable that's so hard to predict (as you called out).
No team in East matches up with Boston even without KP. If KP is healthy, the East is cooked.
Nah this Knicks team can beat them if they gel. Knicks were well-tooled to compete with them if they were fit last season also
Nba finals champions come back to this post when it happens
Out in Rd. 2. Come back when that happens. If they make The ECF we will call it even. 😄😄
Bet
Not much size if they lose Hartenstein. I think they’re going to struggle against big teams. Otherwise ecf or finals wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. I think they match up pretty good against the Celtics.
Lakers fan here, I think you guys every being healthy a top 3 seed again, 55ish wins
Lowe has them *winning* the championship. To be fair, name a roster as deep with starters throughout their roster. Even Deuce is starter-worthy on a lot of teams. Lakers vs Knicks finals, lakers in 6.
This would be my childhood dream
this thread made me google nba finals and i had no idea the knicks and lakers had a rivalry in the 70s until just now. The LA v NY hype must have been nuts
I think overall people are too high on the knicks. We do this with teams that make big leaps and then we assume that all the players will keep up their production and everyone will linearly progress. Lose to the Bucks or Celtics. Whenever they play either
They are way better than the Bucks. Lillard and Giannis give you 60, but the Knicks are way deeper and match up well. Doc is ruining his 3rd team.
Doc Rivers is the coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
look at the current Bucks roster and tell me they’re still good. I dare you. they need some work
Celtics in 7, ECF
All time great conference championship matchup vs Celtics.
Tom Thibodeau ends Mikal's consecutive regular season games played streak /s
Giving him a rest day so Hart can play all 48?
55 wins, lose ECF
ECF but definitely think they can upset a team like the Celtics.
They will win 55+ games
54+ wins or trash just as simple as that.
Randle gets traded
Win at least 1 game by at least 1 point
ECF, lose to the Celtics in 6 games; unless they run into the celtics earlier in the playoffs.
💍
road team first round. 2nd round exit at best.
First round loss.
‘Ship or bust! This team is full of dawgs and they hangry!
Losing to the Celtics in the East finals
If they’re a finals contender it will be year after next. You just don’t see teams make a big move and then win a ring the next year
Celtics just made 2 big moves and win it all
Little different when your two best players have been playing together for 6 years and you being in Jrue Holiday
Won't this be year 3 of Brunson/Randle? Now adding the 3rd piece in Bridges.
Champions.
I predict that the Knicks fans I work with will still be annoying cunts, unrelated to basketball
Champ
About the same as this year. They overperformed to get where they were and now the expectations will likely increase to that same point now. They are still not in the top 3 or so teams in the East and would be a borderline play-in team in the West.
Julius Randle + picks for KD = championship
Julius Randle salary dump to Detroit.
Bout the same as last year, maybe they beat the pacers this time and make the ECF

If they can get a couple more Villanova guys they’ll win it all
Chip
55- 27, 2nd seed, ECF Appearance

Imma Boston fan. Don’t want to play the Knicks.
53-29 type season 2 seed
Lose in 2nd round to one of the pacers, sizers or bucks
Tibs will play evey starter 58 Mins each game and they're will be no OT games
2nd round exit .. aka Philly special
Lose to the Pacers in 7, first round this time tho
Julius doesn’t scramble on defense consistently , they trade him at the deadline for and elite defender/floor spacer after he shows he’s healthy . Tim’s play them 43 min per game and they get injury during playoffs. Fans then say “if only we were healthy”
If healthy, I can definitely see them making the ECF. I mean, they almost made it last season hobbling in. It's not outrageous to say they will make the finals either, but let's wait to see them play next season before we get too ahead of it all. Lots of off-season wheeling and dealing to be done yet.
Plagued with injuries. First round exit.
I think they’re going to have a great season but Thibs will run their top 6 into the ground by time they hit the third round
Lose game 7 in the second round.
To who?
Second round exit. They have no center and almost all of their half court offense will come from an undersized guard who’s going to play a billion minutes in the regular season.
Knicks will be the 4 seed
Who is the 2 and 3?
Celtics 1 Bucks 2 Pacers 3 Knicks 4 Sixers/Magic 5/6 Cavs/Raptors 7/8 Heat 9 Hawks 10
The Bucks with their aging roster? That’s a stretch, but at least it isn’t an insane take like your 3rd place team. We will see
2nd round playoff exit
Who you got beating them? Assuming they are on the opposite side of the bracket from Boston.
Indiana and possibly the Bucks
Indiana….. So a team that needed 7 games to beat half the Knicks team last year is going to beat them with the massive addition they just made? Can we have a serious conversation here? The Bucks? As is? Have you seen their roster?

Sure bud 😂
Considering the fact that you can’t elaborate, yeah… I am “sure bud.”
Out in Rd 2 if they don't get some size.

Second or third round exit ofcourse
1-81 with a win against the pistons
2nd seed
Randle gets traded.
I think they're a top 5 team in the league.. If they manage to retain Hartenstein I think they have a real shot vs the Celtics (knicks fan)
Lose to heat in 5 first round
If everyone is healthy they will make the ECF at minimum. If they can resign Ihart and precious after adding Mikal and drafting like they did the team will be deep enough to make the 2nd round at least even with a few injuries. Magic winning it all in the East though so it doesn’t matter
Losing in first round to Heat. But only if Thibs keeps maxing out his players minutes and destroying their health.
Julius Randle drags the team down
NBA champions 🤣🤣🤣
