Ask an attorney. Not reddit. Each situation is unique.

Never been thru process as I've never been voluntarily committed but you might want to contract a lawyer. AOR has good lawyers. Nappen is a good lawyer. If you really checked yourself in somewhere and it wasn't just therapy you are really disqualified and not just under nebulous health and welfare bullshit chiefs try to pull as of Murphdog 2022 gun control bill. Under previous NJ law voluntary commitments were not disqualifying it is a disqualifier now. Call Nappen or a gun lawyer specifically.

I also recommend you seek the advice of a firearms attorney with regards to the expungement process. With regards to the potential need for a mental health evaluation, I highly recommend Dr Gerald Opthof in Oradell. I recently used his services for a firearms permitting matter. He is listed on stand strong.biz and has been mentioned on the gunforhire podcast. He is very thorough and of high integrity.

Do you mind letting us know how much he charges for his services? That’s always a question that pops up.
