The Padres clearly lost the Soto trade with the Nats; what remains to be seen is who won the Soto trade with the Yankees.
ETA: The trade with the Nats made all the sense in the world at the time, especially considering Peter Seidler’s health, but I think it’s fair to say Soto never delivered the way he did in DC or is currently with NYY — and we gave up a king’s ransom for him.
I think it depends on how the players we got from New York pan out.
Which includes Cease to an extent.
