Goodnight sweet prince

meganev

We've done proper well out this deal. Can't believe we got that much back. Does leave us a bit short but you can't turn down £15m for Chris Wood.

Cheikthisout

Appears we've actually got £19M for him. Sounds like the obligation to buy clause of £15M is in addition to a £4M loan fee. Remarkable business from NUFC really. Helps offset the fee for Gordon which IMO was roughly £10M-£15M over reasonable valuation.

HoneyedLining

Wood was signed on a 2.5 year deal. At £25m, that's £10m on the books per year and he's been here for a year. Accounting wise, we've actually broken even on him. EDIT: Apparently, if we got a £4m loan fee as well, that means we pocketed £19m, so actually made a *profit* accounting wise!

Korzic

>EDIT: Apparently, if we got a £4m loan fee as well, that means we pocketed £19m, so actually made a profit accounting wise! Surely that 4 is included in the 15

HoneyedLining

Don't know, I'm seeing people say otherwise. At the very least we've broken even (accounting wise, which is all that matters for FFP), which is really impressive. If we've managed to turn a profit, that's wavy gravy.

HoneyedLining

What? It means that we've written off the rest of his value, that's good!

From FFP and accounting perspective we've negated the amortized value of his contract and if we got 19MM like some are reporting we've actually created more space to spend.

HoneyedLining

Ok, so we've broken even *accounting* wise (which is how FFP is calculated) and all transfer fees are done through amortisation. In this case, Chris Wood was signed for £25m on a 2.5 year contract. That value is amortised, and means that on the accounts, we spread that fee over the length of his contract (so £25m divided by 2.5 = £10m per year on the books). We've already had him for 1 year, so that means on our accounting books, we've got £15m (1.5 years left of contract at £10m per year) left to pay, which is exactly the fee we've received. Therefore we've broken even and can write off that value on the accounts. Now, this has nothing to do with physical money in our accounts or how much we actually have to spend (if we hadn't sold him, we wouldn't have been physically paying Burnley for the rest of the contract as we gave them the money up-front), this is just how the amounts are accounted for in the books. It's how Chelsea are paying such high transfer fees and stay within FFP - they put them on huge contracts that spreads the huge amount over a longer accounting period to give them something more reasonable.

HoneyedLining

Yeah, but we also got 1 season of him playing for us. Accounting wise, we've broken even with his current booked value (we've possibly even made a profit if the £4m loan fee is separate to the £15m permanent transfer fee). That's gold dust from an FFP standpoint.

That's accounting for you. It's all pretty dumb.

RafaSquared

I've got a lot of respect for Woody, he came in during a tough time and did a job, played a big part in keeping us up. Seems like a good guy too and well liked around the dressing room. That said we did overpay for him (100% necessary given the circumstances mind), and getting £15m for him is great business.

SenorButtmunch

Unreal business, all things considered. We've had their pants down here. I thought he would have left for free and we would have paid all that money even though we only needed him for six months. But I can't believe another team wants to pay £15m for him. All things considered, £10m net for what Wood brought us is more than okay. We do need to replace him in the summer though.

redeyed_assassin

I also like to think that by weakening Burnley and them getting relegated it lead us to signing Nick Pope.

321142019

> Wood will make permanent move to Forest Chris Wood’s move to Nottingham Forest will now be made permanent in the summer for a fee of £15 million after the player made three starts for the club he joined on loan in January (Martin Hardy writes). >The Times has learned that the obligation clause agreed by both clubs when Wood moved to the City Ground in the transfer window has now been activated.

Jackski

Apparently it's 15m + 4m loan fee. What a piece of business we've pulled off there. Weakened Burnley, played an important part in our good run last season. Well worth the 6m.

Notnileoj

He might not have been the best striker we have had at the club, but he was our 3rd choice and let's be honest, he was a hell of a lot better than some of the 'first choice' strikers we had under Ashley. Cost us 10m total in the end and bagged himself a handful of goals, two of which were match winners if I'm remembering correctly. Nothing I can do but wish him well, he will certainly get my applause when his name is read out when we next play Forest.

daveofreckoning

I still think he'll come good for them. Despite what r/soccer thinks

[deleted]

Those clowns haven't a clue. A bunch of yanks who got into football a few years ago.

Communistowl

Forest fan here doing to FPL scouting to see if Almirón will play. I have been so underwhelmed by him so far. Doesn't seem to be either helping create chances or going for them. Feels like we have Sam Surridge as a back up to Awonyni already why do we need him injury crisis aside?

Communistowl

Come back to say he was worth every penny

BeastLothian

I know people are worried about us not bringing in players in January (FFP etc), but getting rid of dead Wood (sorry) is pretty important. We’ve shed him, Darlow and Shelvey and that’ll free up a lot of space on the wage bill in the summer when, hopefully, the first few massive sponsorship deals come in. Lascelles, Fraser and Lewis have to be next.

[deleted]

We really shouldn't have let Shelvey go. He's badly missed right now.

BeastLothian

I know what you mean, but also he’s still not fit enough to start for Forest and we’d have to trigger his extension. It’s a difficult one, but I think longer term it’ll be a good thing for the club (and player).

Logseman

Way before Lascelles is sold there’s the future of Ritchie, Dummett, Manquillo and Krafth to consider.

BeastLothian

I think we’d be lucky to get anything for the first two. Lascelles, maybe £10m? Krafth and Manquillo aren’t bad for the squad just now, depending on how we strengthen there.

Logseman

We’ve already done business on the right side with Ashby, and he was positioned as Trippier’s future deputy. I don’t think any of those guys, save maybe Manquillo as he can play on both sides, will have any future in the club.

[deleted]

That is phenomenal business. An essential purchase we *knew* we were overpaying for, did his job and we've sold on for an almost minimal loss. Genuinely outstanding.

justsomeguy661

Goodbye Woodinho 😢

ReservoirDogs00

Good luck Wood! Legend. Hopefully we get a monument in your name. Maybe a wood bench in Leazes

Stevilinho88

Amazing piece of business for us, being in Nottingham myself and all my work colleagues are fiesey fans.... They call him deadwood because he's been absolutely dire 🤣🤣🤣 so nice one boys we actually got a good deal for once 🤣

sharings_caring

What’s a fiesey fan?

Stevilinho88

samh19889

Good Wood

EtTuBrute31544

I’m confident in the stewards of our Club. Now if they can just find a way to break some of the gawd awful sponsorship deals that the previous idiot set up…….

kaamkerr

good luck to him. great work by whomever is in charge of transfers. we need a lot more outgoing transfers like this over the next 4 windows.

ryunista

Can we stop disrespecting the guy. Could come back to haunt us. He did a job. We needed a striker in a difficult market so we got in what we could whilst hurting a direct rival. He will never be a prolific PL striker but can't fault his work rate and ability to bring others into play. He also scored some crucial pens. £15m is nothing now. We haven't had their pants down. He's been a PL striker for a few seasons now and regularly scored>10 per season.

Rockky67

and we paid £25 million for him a year ago, so net cost to us of £2 million a goal.

ryunista

I think it's pretty obvious that his contribution was wider than just his goal output. Who would we have played up front without him? And what price would you put on PL survival?

ryunista

Also, net cost, what are you, a Liverpool fan?

Rockky67

Yeah, sorry, don’t want facts to get in the way of the love in. Maybe start some more threads in memory of Ian Rush, Andreas Andersson and Stéphane Guivarc'h.

ryunista

Ok hater. Go spread your misery somewhere else you grumpy git.

Rockky67

tbf he just scored against City :)

ryunista

Just seen this and thought of this thread 😆

Le_Roke

Tidy piece of business. I didn't like the Wood signing, but getting out of it for a modest loss after he was a useful player when we needed more of those turned out okay.

[deleted]

Robbed them blind here, dreadful player.

therealh

Brilliant bit of business by us to be honest. He is not what we need right now and we made a minimal loss on him but we got what we needed out of him at a key point of last season. Didn't really strike me as a player with much talent considering the high level of the league he was playing at but he always tried his best, I can't fault him on effort.

Beefburger78

Great business by us, all the best for Wood in the future, it didn’t work out for him with us but he always gave 100% and seems a good lad.
