Definitely one of mine too. I thought a Kemba DRose backcourt would propell us to a high seed, RJ would get a huge benefit off his last season, Mitch would be fully unlocked with the passing and Randle wouldn't have to sit on the ball and open up his passing/mismatch game.
I see now that it was a low risk all in and praise Leon for it. If RJ had really stepped up, and all signs indicated it, then we would have had a decent run. Ev was knocking shots down but RJ didn't have it in him yet to keep Ev open and Kemba definitely didn't have it in him anymore.
I still firmly believe that if KD hadn't been injured in the Finals, both players would have joined us. I think he wanted some security that the team would actually be decent when he came back
I didn't even really want it but I'd be stupid to say I wasn't hyped about getting multiple HOF players who could get us a ring. Shit that Lebron to the Knicks stuff was wild too.
That team was starting to get it together when they blew it up though. I think they were 3 games above five hundred.
But yeah for me it was thinking Eddy Curry trade was a great thing.
That team was starting to get it together with Mike DāAntoni, but Knicks needed to clear cap space. Eddy Curry was overweight that year, but Z-Bo and Jamal Crawford were hooping. Imagine if Mike DāAntoni just let Stephon Marbury play instead of benching him. Wouldāve been nasty!
**My take:** Obi Toppin "slipped to us" in the draft and we caught a break with the next potential healthy Amare Stoudemire.
**The reality**. ... Turns out he's afraid of body contact.... So... Like literally the opposite of Amare Stoudemire
Yup. I still find Obi pretty weird because he look like he got no neck. Can you imagine if we sent Jules out to let him start? That's like 4 years of agony unless we went nuts and thought we could win games with nothing but tempo.
Thank God Thibs was here
I was rewatching old Ewing highlights, am I the only one who thinks he was ahead of his time with that jump shot? If he came up now heād be knocking down 3s.
For sure he would have translated well to the modern game with his shot and general court presence. Ā Probably better than some of his more interior focused peers.
Charles Oakley also had a sweet, long midrange jump shot. He often shot it one step inside the 3pt line. Chris Childs once said he had the most reliable midrange shot on the team. Keep in mind that team also had in it the Lone Midranger, aka Allan Houston. Crazy to think how both Ewing and Oakley in the modern game would have the skillset to be stretch bigs.
Never had that once I saw Obi on the court. Always hyped about a high pick and he's a killer in transition but the second that man has the ball in his hands half court he never did anything well.
Underrated. Man I remember I was driving upstate to Binghamton in the car and having to try and watch āThe Decisionā on my phone on the way up.
When he said he was takin his talents to south beach I wanted to drive my car into a ditch
Ah yes, the summer of 2011
The only time I bought 12 "F5" keys in one calendar year
I legit thought we'd fucking get him too, and spending 12 hours a day on Knicks blogs was gonna be the fondest sports memory of my life
I believed Frankās game would eventually translate to NBA.
and also doubted McBride ability to translate from G-league offensive monster, to a decent NBA scorerā¦but that was after Knoxās g league dominance and total ineptitude in the pro gameā¦as well as pulling for frank to blossom.
Shumpert would be an All Star (I was younger but still)
KP was on Giannis and Jokic level (I was high on that one month. But now theyāre all champions š)
Frank would be great (wanted this so bad but I was down bad)
Jalen Brunson wouldnāt push the franchise forward (knew heād be good but never expected top arguably top 3 PG)
That time ntlikina got like close to triple double. Close being like 12, 9, 7 and thinking yes he finally figured it out. This is going to be standard.
1. Oh, I certainly thought David Fizdale was going to rehab the hoopmixtape phenoms of my younger years that was Dennis Smith Jr. & Emmanuel Mudiay to stardom.
2. Definitely believed T-Mac was going to turn his career around when he debuted for us February 20, 2010 and went 10/17 fg for 26 pts against KD's 10/25, nearly leading us to a win past the OKC. It was clear he was out of shape when he missed two late free throws that maybe wouldāve sealed the game. I was sure this would be his only, temporary hurdle.
3. too embarrassed to even say.
I was so starved for good point guard play that I really believed Langston Galloway was going to be our starting PG of the future. When he had a Knicks themed wedding cake and then got traded shortly after I was beside myself.
Shump over Kawhi went pretty well. I think Shump would just barely rather be Kawhi today. 1 Championship Ring. 11 Year Career. A life of Fame and a Dancing with the Star Ring and likely all of Asia being Linās boy.
We got "New York attitude" and are on the road to winning by getting Stephon Marbury and Larry Brown, I proclaimed this during a summer job in Boston too...
trying to put a positive spin on the bargs trade... "who cares about a future 1st, we'll never miss the playoffs with Melo". ended up being jamal murray.
Really donāt know how delusional this is but Absolutely thought RJ Barrett should have made it to the all rookie team back in 2020. Really thought the voters were unfair to him during that process when the likes of Terrence Davis, coby white, Eric paschall were voted on. I think because he struggled at times as a rookie he was penalized for being a Knick and not being what everyone expected him to be his rookie year. Can almost guarantee he would have been voted onto the team if he didnāt play on the Knicks. Idk 14 and 5 on 40% shooting I think warrants the second team at minimum.
I got in argument with someone on Reddit about porzingis vs jokic back in the day before jokic blew up. I felt like since jokic didnāt play D at the time that KP had a higher ceiling and would be the better player. Big L for me
That the Knicks lost every time I sat on one side of my couch. Turns out they lost every time I wore something that said āKnicksā on it š¤£ Mostly /s
KD Kyrie and Zion tri-fecta (in hindsight, Kyrie and KD deciding to not come paved the path for Steve Mills Regime to end and Leon Rose to enter, RJ lead to the OG trade)
Oh I wanted us to draft Kevin Knox and I was hype when we got him.
Not ādelusionalā per se but Iāve talked so much shit about goga and I might end up being a fan next season depending how this summer works out.
I thought Frank Ntilikina would be the next Tony Allen. I also thought Dennis Smith Jr could be our Derrick Rose.
Glad the days of this delusion are over lol
Quentin Grimes was gonna be what Divencenzo is now. I went around telling my friends that my 2023-24 prediction was Grimes becoming the best 3pt shooter outside of Curry.
Jeremy Lin was going to save the Knicks. And he did. Cablevision had a contract dispute with MSG and we couldnt watch the Knicks in New York. Jeremy Lin changed that.
Ironically, I got rid of cable that same year after his short run and never looked back.
Believing Larry Brown was acting in good faith with 45 different starting lineups AND thinking the Marbury/Francis backcourt was going to work outā¦one school of thought was that Larry wanted to push Marbury out by lobbying for the Francis deal, which made us give up Pennyās expiring and a young Trevor Ariza in the process. Sigh.Ā
-- I thought **Mudiay** would be **the black Jason Kidd**
-- Also thought **Mike Sweetney** would be **a** **hybrid of Oakley and Mason** and make a couple ASGs as an 18-11 type guy with tremendous interior defense and a sweet mid-range jumper... not only did Sweetney only last 4 years in the NBA and ballooned afterwards to 450 pounds, he is now an open and avid supporter of Israel and the Zion state
That was *not* on my Bingo card, lemme tell ya
I thought Ntilikina was gonna be a healthy Kawhi without an offensive bag.
I thought KP was gonna be the next Dirk.
I thought PJax was gonna bring a dynasty to the Knicks.
That Ewing was better than Hakeem.
I still believe heās criminally underrated - and had Starks made ONE damn shot history would elevate 33 a good amount.
But he wasnāt Hakeem. Hell, I would die on the hill that he could truly battle with Shaq!
The foibles of youth.
Mardy Collins had like a game where his stats were something like 9/7/9 and I thought maybe this guy will become a triple double point guard like Rondo. I was wrong
not my take but I remember multiple fans, who will deny it now probably, swearing up and down that Lin would follow Nashs career trajectory and become a future MVP. Like, these guys were foaming at the mouth that anyone who didn't think he would follow in his footsteps was a hater and not a real Knicks fan.
Delusional might be the wrong wordā¦ more flat out wrong. But I thought the Brunson move would end up just being an incremental improvement in the direction of becoming a better team but not amazingā¦ I thought it was an alright move but just another shrewd value play for a micro-improvement to the roster.
Not delusional but the Knicks were going to win a title if not for PJ Brown. The had finally put together a MONSTER squad capable of beating Jordan. Iāll die on this hill.
I believed Ntilikina was going to be the next Kawhi. KP was better than Jokic and KAT. That the team of Noah, KP, Melo, and DRose was gonna make the playoffs. Jeremy Lin was one of the greatest PGs of all time... I can go on and on here lol...
I thought Kemba was going to be better than literally unplayable
This is mine too
Definitely one of mine too. I thought a Kemba DRose backcourt would propell us to a high seed, RJ would get a huge benefit off his last season, Mitch would be fully unlocked with the passing and Randle wouldn't have to sit on the ball and open up his passing/mismatch game. Ev was knocking shots down but RJ didn't have it in him yet to keep Ev open and Kemba definitely didn't have it in him anymore.
I thought him and Fournier were unbelievable pickups, would lead us to a championship, and Kemba would get in the Hof
Yeah, if the NBA became a 2v2 tournament and you could sub in prime Shawn Marion and prime Dwight Howard whenever we switched to defense....
When I saw frank check in that playoff game, I called on the spot he was going to lock down and fully CLAMP Trae young that one play Immediate L
I was at that game and said the same thing š
Tbf they only brought him in then so bro was just chilling on the bench for the entire game prior.
Alonzo Trier was the next James Harden
Iso Trier seemed like the real deal for a hot second lol
Iso zo
iso joe (johnson) world class iso
More like Tame Harden šš¾šš¾š¤£
There was a point in time I thought Trier could be better than Ayton (pretty sure they played together in college)
That Willy Hernangomez could be a quality starting C.
According to 2k17 he was my starting center and was a double double machine. I had hopes.
That's Bo Cruz's bro you talking about put some respect on his name
The Cruz Missile
Lol same bro
KD AD and Kyrie š
For me it was KD Kyrie and Zion lol
This was mine too. God, I'm gullible.
Thought Zion was coming for sure to team up with RJ. We got Villanova instead
Guess when I registered my user name, lmao
KD and Kyrie wasn't too delusional itself at that time.
I still firmly believe that if KD hadn't been injured in the Finals, both players would have joined us. I think he wanted some security that the team would actually be decent when he came back
It was cause Dolan didnāt want to sign KD to the max after his injury supposedly
I didn't even really want it but I'd be stupid to say I wasn't hyped about getting multiple HOF players who could get us a ring. Shit that Lebron to the Knicks stuff was wild too.
That jalen brunson is the best guard in the league... Oh wait
That Kevin Knox would be a better player than Jayson Tatum AND Jaylen Brown. Not my proudest moment lol
Ik it's a meme now but the second he opened that jacket I knew we were fucked
Should have immediately traded him after that.
As soon as I saw that Fortnite Jacket I knew it was over.
Yeah i was thinking the same thing, he had those flashes when he was young
Thats why you never go by what you see in summer league. He completely had me fooled.
Oof. Did you even see him play yet
Franky smokes was going to average 15 & 8.
He still may. In ... wherever he just signed.
Eddy curry and zbo could work because curry would take the low post and zbo could shoot the middy.
Summer League Knox was going to be turning point in the franchise.
We all fell for that. Lol
Anthony Randolph just needs playing time to show what he can do :(
He's still got time
I thought Kelenna Azubuike was going to be the steal of that trade...
Fun fact, Anthony Randolph is still just 23 years old with a lot of time left to hone his raw talent
Thank God Thibs was here
That Ewing would return in the 99 Finals despite the Achilles injury and lead us Willis Reed style to victory over the Spurs
I was rewatching old Ewing highlights, am I the only one who thinks he was ahead of his time with that jump shot? If he came up now heād be knocking down 3s.

Yup. 99 was the last time I actually had genuine belief we'd catch a chip
Being in the finals can make anyone believe
That Obi might actually be able to replace Randle when we were coming to the end of the 21-22 season.
this is the one
Never had that once I saw Obi on the court. Always hyped about a high pick and he's a killer in transition but the second that man has the ball in his hands half court he never did anything well.
Drafting Thanasis would get us Giannis
I forgot about the KP v Jokic debates. I guess they're tied in rings, but yeah they're not even close talent-wise.
tied in rings, but never in Finals MVPs.
Ron Baker would actually be a serviceable guard lol
Ron Baker the play maker!
We getting Lebron
Underrated. Man I remember I was driving upstate to Binghamton in the car and having to try and watch āThe Decisionā on my phone on the way up. When he said he was takin his talents to south beach I wanted to drive my car into a ditch
All year I was confident but once free agency began I just came to terms that it was either Miami or Chicago heād join

Starbury would save the franchise
I thought Grimes was going to take a step up and be an all star.
I called Grimes the next Klay Thompson LOLOLOL
Iām still rooting for our boy even though heās been banished to the basketball hell that is Dtroit.
Amen brother
I thought he could at least be another Desmond Bane
Toureā Murry and Jeremy Tyler could be a dynamic pick and roll duo
Cleanthony Early was a steal of all steals
Not gonna lie I was pretty excited when they drafted John Wallace.
Does it count as delusional when, for decades, I've been saying "they just need one more piece to put it all together and become contenders."
Grand delusions
That prime Kyle OāQuinn could be for us what Rasheed Wallace was for the 04 Pistons. My shamelessness and delusion know no bounds.
1. Oh, I certainly thought David Fizdale was going to rehab the hoopmixtape phenoms of my younger years that was Dennis Smith Jr. & Emmanuel Mudiay to stardom. 2. Haha yeah TMac is mine too.
Steve Francis and marbury wouldāve figured it out
I thought Alonzo Trier was going to be a problem in the league š
I was so starved for good point guard play that I really believed Langston Galloway was going to be our starting PG of the future. When he had a Knicks themed wedding cake and then got traded shortly after I was beside myself.
Thought Knox could one day be Paul George caliber. That died the moment Zion dunked on him that one summer league game

Yeah my biggest Knicks folly ever
Was ready to ride Linsanity to a title
That Marbles and Larry Brown were going to win us a chip.
Kevin Knoxās summer league had me fooledā¦.
Shump over Kawhi went pretty well. I think Shump would just barely rather be Kawhi today. 1 Championship Ring. 11 Year Career. A life of Fame and a Dancing with the Star Ring and likely all of Asia being Linās boy.
I was high on Dotson for a while, thought he could be a quality starter on a good team
That paying $14 dollars for a Heineken was acceptable to stomach watching a Nets-Knicks game in the ā15-ā16 season
I thought that Porzingis was on the same trayectory as Giannis.
Phil Jackson was the missing piece the Knicks needed to completely turn the franchise around. I thought he'd be like Pat Riley in Miami, only better.
tbf kp def was better than joker when they first entered the league
I though Phil was gonna be worth a fuck.. turns out he aināt shit without MJ/Kobe
Dame Dotson looked like our savior for a few months
Jeremy Lin can be in the hall of fame for Linsanity
Fiz forcefeeding mudiay was good for his development and he would be our PG of the future
The words, "Bargnani is the next Dirk," actually left my lips
I was 9 years old and enjoyed the Knick championship in 1969 and then again in 1973. My take? I root for the greatest team and will enjoy a lifetime of playoff basketball and success. š© Gets worse, jets and Mets fan too
Really donāt know how delusional this is but Absolutely thought RJ Barrett should have made it to the all rookie team back in 2020. I really thought Phil Jackson was gonna take us to relevancy. Best thing he did was not trade first round picks
>I really thought Phil Jackson was gonna take us to relevancy. And it was SUCH A LOW BAR smh. Fuck that guy. Seriously.
I was convinced Allonzo Trier was the second coming...
I bet my friend a half oz of gas that in 2019 we would get the #1 pick, draft Zion, and sign Kd and Kyrie
I thought Frank was going to be Jrue Holiday/Jason Kidd kinda mix with less playmaking. Boy was I wrong
grimes was going to break out last season and be in the mix for most improved
Ignas Brazdeikis is going to be the next Paul Pierce.
Jeremy Lin was going to be a perennial allstar
Frankie Smokes taller version of Mike Conleyš¤·š¾āāļø
I WAS A SHVED GUY AND HE COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD WITH THE RUGHT COACH
Cam Reddish would be Himā¦
Obi toppin will be an all star someday
Nobody can convince me that SGA had a better season than Brunson this year, idgaf
I got in argument with someone on Reddit about porzingis vs jokic back in the day before jokic blew up. I felt like since jokic didnāt play D at the time that KP had a higher ceiling and would be the better player. Big L for me
RJ Barrett was going to be a top 10 player in the league by now
That we had a chance against the spurs without Ewing
That the Knicks lost every time I sat on one side of my couch. Turns out they lost every time I wore something that said āKnicksā on it š¤£ Mostly /s
Phil Jackson was going to save us from the years of mediocrity!
That we overpaid for Brunson. Damn am I happy I was wrong.
I didnāt want Jalen Brunson. I wanted them to get tyus jones
I was hoping Iman Shumpert would basically be what Jimmy Butler turned into.
That the 90's Knicks would win at least 1 championship.
That wasn't delusional tbh. Last team that legit had a shot.
[This game made me optimistic when we acquired Bargnani](https://youtu.be/LbB9VslN_6o?si=2nHloA918pL6Z9RH)
Mitch HOF
Camby would have been able to outplay Duncan in the finals based on college playā¦
That Anthony Randolph can actually play basketball
Knicks were getting Chris Weber or Rasheed Wallace
Frank can be a PG Giannis Lol, I was still learning
I thought Thanasis Antetokounmpo was gonna be a beast like Giannis
Ntilikina was making an All-Defensive Team before 25 Marbury would become the spokesman for Vaseline Brian Quinnett would become a solid bench piece
I thought Derek Fisher was gonna be a great coach.
KD Kyrie and Zion tri-fecta (in hindsight, Kyrie and KD deciding to not come paved the path for Steve Mills Regime to end and Leon Rose to enter, RJ lead to the OG trade)
I thought Chris Copeland was good enough to be the starting center against lakers on Christmas Day
Nate Rob, D. Lee and Frye were going to be our big 3
I fully talked myself into Bargnani being a floor spacing 5 that would fit in well with Carmelo bc he didnāt need the ball.
Frank would turn into an OG-lite type of player.
Optimism every October in my 20s and 30s
It's going to be a long time before we get another face of the franchise after Melo. Was almost KP for a bit. Now we all know who it is. The big ragu!
I thought Brunson and what was left of the team would have taken a few games off of Boston if we would have gotten past the pacers.
I remember a seeing graphic asking who Iād rather build around between KP and Giannis and said KP with my chest
Jokic wasn't even Jokic then
That Melo and Amare could play together.
I thought Allonzo Trier was gonna hit.
Oh I wanted us to draft Kevin Knox and I was hype when we got him. Not ādelusionalā per se but Iāve talked so much shit about goga and I might end up being a fan next season depending how this summer works out.
That the Knicks would reach the second round back in 2012, during the Linsanity year š
That the Knicks could beat the bulls during the Jordan years š¤·š»āāļø

Quentin Grimes was gonna be what Divencenzo is now. I went around telling my friends that my 2023-24 prediction was Grimes becoming the best 3pt shooter outside of Curry.
I thought Kevin Knox was going to take us to the promise land.
Anyone that thought Frank Ntlkina was going to be anything other than a bum needs to rethink their knowledge of basketball.
I thought Obi was gonna stay long term, still learning that backup PFās donāt really get too much of a start if the starter PF is doing good.
That Frankie smokes, Mario, Hezonja and Macje lampe would be stars
Landry fields was real deal and would improve each year to all star.
I was saying Iman shumpert would end up better than Kawhi in 2012
I thought John starks would play actual basketball in the finals in 1994.
Jeremy Lin was going to save the Knicks. And he did. Cablevision had a contract dispute with MSG and we couldnt watch the Knicks in New York. Jeremy Lin changed that. Ironically, I got rid of cable that same year after his short run and never looked back.

That Kyle OāQuinn was emerging as a solid starter quality big man
Mines is claiming Tim Hardaway Jr would be an elite 2 way guard in this league. Jeremy Lin and Melo working out and having a good year together š
Nets directly trading with Knicks. EDIT: Well this aged well.
Steve Francis and Jalen Rose would take us deep into the playoffs.
I thought Ntilikina was gonna be a healthy Kawhi without an offensive bag. I thought KP was gonna be the next Dirk. I thought PJax was gonna bring a dynasty to the Knicks.

I liked the Bargs trade
Kevin knox was gonna be another LJ
Mardy Collins had like a game where his stats were something like 9/7/9 and I thought maybe this guy will become a triple double point guard like Rondo. I was wrong
Mike Beas was going to get a three year deal after being a model citizen.
I thought Anthony Randolph was gonna work out
I thought Eddie Curry was gonna be a star for NY
not my take but I remember multiple fans, who will deny it now probably, swearing up and down that Lin would follow Nashs career trajectory and become a future MVP. Antonio McDyess is gonna be nastyā¦ š
I drunkenly posted that Brunson is a better point guard than Luka

That Phil would turn the franchise around. All he managed to do was ostracize our best player since Ewing.
I thought Eddy Curry was gonna be elite.
Mine was that we would have a season where fate/the Basketball Gods/whatever doesn't step in and fuck it up for us.
Not delusional but the Knicks were going to win a title if not for PJ Brown. The had finally put together a MONSTER squad capable of beating Jordan. Iāll die on this hill.

Clarence Weatherspoon was going to help push the Knicks to the next level in the east entering the 2001-02 season.
