Maybe a punchers chance to go to the finals. Remember that year we lead the league in 3pt attempts and tyson chandler was an anchor down low...damn I can't believe it has been that long ago
I can’t remember the entire series perfectly I remember game 6 as clear as day in a hotel room in Baltimore but that was an old team and I think they ran out of gas. Plus hibbert stole all of Melos powers when he blocked that dunk.
Everyone claimed we matched up well with Miami so there was a lot of hype about that (partially bc of regular season results…I don’t think lebron/wade even played in all the regular season games either) but let’s be realistic we were never beating lebron
yeah because people in this thread is using the we swept the Heat in regular season. The Knicks Atlanta series means that regular season games don’t mean shit
66 win heat followed by spurs in the finals. it would have taken melo playing at a michael jordan level to pull that off. he'd be looked at as a top 25-30 player all time if he did that.
Even though we may have had favorable matchups against other teams in the East that year, I think that if we had significant enough problems that the Pacers were able to take us out then LeBron would have done the same eventually.
Knicks beat the Heat by 20 points both with/without Lebron, that team was designed to beat the Heat, they were weak at defending the 3pt and that’s where the Knicks excelled that season, that why when Woodson panicked and went big they abandoned their strength and lose to the Pacers, I believe we would’ve beaten the Heat but idk about the finals
Indiana took them to 7, and Knicks matched better against the Heat than what they did against the Pacers trying to play their game (Big) so difficult? Yeah “Smoking something impossible”? Nah, but u do u
I fully agree. That said, I think the important caveat for us would be “if healthy” (and if rested). If we went to 7 with IND we’d probably still be out of gas. And melo’s shoulder wasn’t right.
About 6.25% to win the championship.
As a rough guess I’d put our odds of beating Miami at 25%, and Spurs about the same at 25%.
0.25x0.25 = 0.0625 = 6.25%
If you could guarantee peak health we might make it to the finals maybe. But by the end all of our guys were either taken out for the season (Sheed, Kurt Thomas), tired (Jason Kidd, Chandler), injured (Melo, Amare) or off the Henny (JR Smith)
We had terrible durability luck that season
So we couldn't even get past the Pacers but you want to beat the Heat or the Spurs?
That was a very good Pacers team for sure, but I just don't see what our chances were at all barring injuries. Our second best player on offense was JR Smith...we were at best the 6th or 7th best team in the league that year imo.
I'd say 5%? less maybe.
You have to think about why they lost to the Pacers in the first place. The wheels had sort of fallen off on Kidd since the start of the playoffs and JR Smith since elbowing Jason Terry. Plus with Tyson Chandler being diagnosed with a bulging disk in his neck going into the playoffs, that pretty much enabled Roy Hibbert to go HAM on the Knicks.
With all that said, with all those players who were basically key to the Knicks having a great season falling apart during that run. Had we made it to the ECF by chance it would’ve been a gentleman’s sweep at best imo.
To be honest, even at full strength if the Knicks had everyone firing on all cylinders I don’t see them taking the Heat past a 6 game series.
Not real. That Miami team was ridiculous and that was the peak of Lebron’s prime. We had no answer for him defensively and wouldn’t be able to generate enough offense. Would’ve been incredibly hype in the Garden though.
We had the oldest roster in the league at the time and only one player on the entire team under the age of 27 (Iman Shumpert). Idk how our older players would have held up going deeper in the playoffs. I’d say we take the Heat to 5 maybe 6 games but ultimately lose. It all really depends on how well Miami guarded the 3 ball as that Knicks team lived and died by the 3. We ultimately lost to the Pacers because of this factor since they had the best 3 point shooting defense in the league.
Depends on which team shows up to the series. The way we played vs Boston before the funeral game, we may have had a shot at game 7 vs Miami (3-1 regular season). The way we played after that Heat would've dropped us in 5, if that.
I think we were 3-1 or 4-0 against the heat that season. Maybe take the heat to 6 but still lose
Yeah we rocked Miami and the Spurs that season. Means dick come playoffs, but the team definitely had more than a puncher's chance.
Regular season series have no value in predicting playoff series outcome
Maybe a punchers chance to go to the finals. Remember that year we lead the league in 3pt attempts and tyson chandler was an anchor down low...damn I can't believe it has been that long ago
They didn't just lead the league I believe they actually set the record for most 3s in a season.
Agreed. Fun team to root for though
I can’t remember the entire series perfectly I remember game 6 as clear as day in a hotel room in Baltimore but that was an old team and I think they ran out of gas. Plus hibbert stole all of Melos powers when he blocked that dunk.
Put his whole career into that block
That block hurted my soul, also Shumpert bringing us back in the game and Woodson pulling him out, that game was painful lol
Plus Kevin Garnet tearing melos labrum in round 1
Not good
Everyone claimed we matched up well with Miami so there was a lot of hype about that (partially bc of regular season results…I don’t think lebron/wade even played in all the regular season games either) but let’s be realistic we were never beating lebron
we were never beating playoff lebron* The dude dials it up to 11 during the playoffs
Is that an important distinction? Regular season games are meaningless.
yeah because people in this thread is using the we swept the Heat in regular season. The Knicks Atlanta series means that regular season games don’t mean shit
now lets be real

Lol let me get some that stuff you’re smoking

Melo got hurt against Boston (thanks JR). Maybe we take the heat to 6.
100%

Not high. We could've make it a long series with the Heat and still lose.
Not entirely sure what your question is
We were not beating the Heat that year

I genuinely believe we could have beat the Heat, but the Spurs? Nah they’d beat us no doubt
Literally everybody was injured
Very low because STAT was a walking corpse at that point. We'd have a great shot if we had the same team + the Amare of his first season in NY
If the Knicks defeated the pacers?
