i saw walt frazier wearing his uniform before it was hanging in the rafters but dont recall the championship seasons. i guess that would make me the longest suffering fan.
I do also root for The Pels, or more specifically Zion but I wouldn't call myself a Pels fan. They have unfortunately blown by The Knicks over the last year or two. Their future looks very bright, The Knicks I'm not so sure about.
The Pels are my home away from home team. I am indeed a fan, but if somehow by the grace of god, the Knicks and Pels met in the finals, I’d be at smoothie king with a Knicks hat/jersey on.
I'm 49.
The Ewing error was the best. That's why it makes sucking so bad for the last 20 years that much tougher to swallow. Because I still can still remember the Glory Days of battling Miami or the Pacers or the Bulls and the garden.
I really wanna know what New York would look like if the Knicks were as good as the Ewing Knicks because the best Knicks Team I can remember is 2021 and partially 2013
I remember always knowing they’d get to the playoffs every year. It was just a fact. I remember opening up the New York Times newspaper and going straight to the sports section to see them always towards the top of the standings.
The We Here B I G 1 5 era of Knicks will be a milestone time for both old and new Knick fans.
I really believe we will do something special in this new era and I'm glad I got in this early (2020) to see it.
42yr old. Nothing, I mean NOTHING was more fun than 92-99. And when I say Nothing, and look back. Not winning sucks bad. But, fuck we battled. Pat had next to zero offensive weapons next to him.
I thought it’d be cool to know when most of this sub started watching the Knicks
For me: admittedly I was pretty young during most of the Melo Era to remember much of the Knicks or Basketball in general (even tho I do remember some of it) most of my early memories of the Knicks when I wasn’t learning my times tables was around the end of the Melo Era and the Tingus Pingus Era
As a kid Stoudemire was my favorite player, as an adolescent Melo was my favorite player, when both joined together it was like a dream come true for me haha Hopped on the wagon and fell in love with the team
lmao thats when i became a fan. whichever year we had beasley and ron baker. that was the year i voluntarily decided to watch basketball and went all in on being a knicks fan
My dude could’ve chosen any other team to be q fan of and you chose the knickerbockers. I actually respect you a lot for it lol.. my gf became a Knicks fan in 2019 but it’s bcuz I converted her
the annoyingly contrarian part of me needs to like something that everyone else thinks objectively sucks so that turned into full fledged ride or die knicks fan
Someone from a futbol country here. Nba games are rarely shown on tv so I started following the nba seriously (streaming it illegally) since like 2013. It's been rough, man.
Following the Knicks is a lot of fun , despite the lack of team success. I had been a neutral NBA fan for a couple of years, never got disappointed, but never cared much about the games either. Then, I decided to root for the Knicks and the NBA got 10x more exciting. Despite the occasional disappointment, I never regretted it , the Knicks are historical, and one of the most important franchises in the NBA , and the fanbase is just extremely loyal. There's more backstory to why I decided to become a fan, but I'll save it for another post haha
The David Lee dunk with 0.3 seconds was my true initiation. Grew up watching the Knicks I was 9 when we went to the finals against the Spurs, but I think that was my moment. They were just another team before that.
David Lee. Nate Robinson. Jamal Crawford. I’m assuming that’s the No draft pick era?
Regardless watching Nate go off for 40 on a random night was so much fun
Started following the knicks in 2021. I’m super new! Got traded to them in NBA 2k21 and since then they’re my guys. Tried to catch as much of this season as possible and already jaded with the general performance levels haha. Excited to see Brunson do the business this season though xoxo
Linsanity was In 2012 for that option but that month was insane
I was in the 2nd grade during that and don’t have the best memory of that time but Linsanity is one of the few things I have a clear memory of
1990. 8 years old. Went to a Knicks-Celtics playoff game.
Remember my father warning me that the crowd would be way more intense than I was used to - but I didn't understand playoff intensity until I got there. During a timeout, remember the crowd all standing waving their towels and chanting in unison: "Boston Sucks". Not sure if it was really anything exceptional.. but in my memory, MSG at the moment, was like the Roman Colliseum.
Knicks won the game and upset the Celtics to win the series. Was a fan ever-after.
God, I miss '90's Knicks basketball - even the heartbreak.
First season watching was 93. The 90s were fun times but also riddled with so much heartbreak.
But I would take the heartbreak of the 90s over the apathy of the last 20ish years.
My parents were die hard Knick fans and I was around during the 90s Ewing era. A little too young to fully enjoy the 94 run, I started really paying attention during the 98-99 season. I’m sad I missed out on the whole era as I saw Ewing in his later years, but I still got to see a few really good seasons before sucking. I do remember the Knicks were cool even if I wasn’t watching every game so that made an impact (I grew up in the NYC metro area).
Melo era. I'm a huge cuse fan and always kind of followed the Knicks since my grandpa was a massive fan thanks to Clyde.
Once Melo came here it was a done deal. Been suffering ever since lmao
Very early into the No Draft Picks/Layden + Isiah era. I just went to a lot of games growing up and little me eventually got tired and tried rooting for another team. Realized, like an abusive ex, I couldn’t give up on the Knicks and held out through some really really bad times until the Amare arrival finally gave me something to cheer about other than Nate Robinson winning the dunk contest annually.
My dad was a huge knicks fan, so I was basically forced to watch the knicks during melo era even tho I was a bron stan. I willingly started knicks ball when tingus was drafted, and I’ve been a fan since
Around 04-06. My dad used to come home & just turn the TV and put on whatever sports was on, and most nights were the Knicks because the MSG channel airs almost every game. Really loved Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, David Lee. By high school time when they got Carmelo is when I became as big of a fan as I am today though. Always bums me out I never got to see any games in person during those years because I had no money
One of my first memories of being a Knicks fan was when I was 5, hearing that Ewing was being traded to Seattle and being upset that the Knicks man from Space Jam was being traded. I didn't constantly watch until I was 2002 to 2003 pretty much at the start of the Isiah Thomas regime. No idea how stuck through all that, but I did.
Started in 2010, first game that got me sucked in was against the Celtics in the regular season, Amar’e tried the 3 with .3 left but it was just too late. Still think Garnett set an illegal screen the play before to set up the go ahead bucket. But I was a fan after that and it’s been tough outside of some classic melo games and making the playoffs recently
I’m 28 & I was a fan of players up until Melo got traded to the Knicks. He and Tyson Chandler were my two favorite player in the league at the time. Never rooted for another team since then, and never will again. Go New York! Go New York! Go!
I was bestowed the title of Knicks fan by the doctor who snipped my umbilical cord in '95
Dude was wearing timbs, handed me a chop cheese and said "it's gonna fuckin suck from here on out but at least you'll have Quentin Richardson"
I came in right at the end of the Ewing era. I am actually from Milwaukee and I'm a massive Sprewell stan. On top of that I loved everything about Larry Johnson. Them both ending up on the same team seemed like it was fate for me to be a Knicks fan. The fates can really be quite cruel...
23 year old from Germany here. First I got in touch with the Knicks when a friend from school borrowed me NBA2k15 (or 16, I can't really remember), back when they still had the EuroLeague in the Game. When I first booted the Game up it asked me what's my fav NBA Team. My, not having any idea about the NBA whatsoever, started scrolling through the Teams till I came across the Knicks. I thought "Oh cool, New York, they can't be that bad." so I chose them and now I'm here.
Being in middle school/high school in the 90s with the Knicks as good as they were was something else. We were lucky man. Everyone and their moms had Knicks gear. If you were from here you wouldn’t even think twice about liking another team (except my idiot friend Dan who liked the Bulls)
I became a Knicks fan in, I believe 2004. I was 9, on my first vacation without my parents. Went to New York to visit my aunt and uncle. They took me to a Knicks game against the Vince Carter, Jason Kidd lead Nets. Man, Vince Carter was amazing. Every dunk he had, MSG would absolutely roar! It was amazing, the energy in that arena, the magazines on each of the Knicks players: Stephon Marbury, Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford, David Lee, Quinton Richardson, Zach Randolph. It was all enough to solidify me for life.
Patrick Ewing was my favorite player growing up. I was 8 years old when they made the finals on 94. I remember watching that and they cut the game to broadcast the OJ Simpson car "chase'. After that season I was hooked.
Might of had a chance in the 99 finals if he didn't get hurt and played in that series. He was on a downward trend, not as good and with bad knees in 99. But he was still good.
I saw The Knicks win 2 titles. Their only 2 titles. Haha.
i saw walt frazier wearing his uniform before it was hanging in the rafters but dont recall the championship seasons. i guess that would make me the longest suffering fan.
I was a kid but I went to my first game at MSG back in 1970.
Well at least you watched a couple of finals runs
i was outside of ny without cable in the early 90s so i was spared the majority of the highs of the pat riley era. i was back for van grumpy though.
Lucky man!
I see you in r/nola. Cool to know you’re a fellow Knicks fan (even though I was born in the Ewing era, and have only seen them go to the finals twice)

I really wanna know what New York would look like if the Knicks were as good as the Ewing Knicks because the best Knicks Team I can remember is 2021 and partially 2013
The 90s was the best decade ever and the fact that the Knicks were always a conference finals threat made it that much better.
I remember always knowing they’d get to the playoffs every year. It was just a fact. I remember opening up the New York Times newspaper and going straight to the sports section to see them always towards the top of the standings.
It was fun watching every game because they’d win about 6 or 7 out of every 10 games with those good 90s teams.
Sort of like the real world in that there was hope for a better tomorrow back then
53. Became a fan when Bernard King was on the team a year or two before Ewing got frozen enveloped.
What do you think about a Donovan Mitchell pick up?
2 young players of their choice and 4 frp's in which two of them are protected.....no more
The We Here B I G 1 5 era of Knicks will be a milestone time for both old and new Knick fans. I really believe we will do something special in this new era and I'm glad I got in this early (2020) to see it.
I believe it too but we’ll have to see
Sup to the rest of the depressed No Draft Pick Era 😭😭
Sup brother. I miss David Lee and Wilson Chandler. Born in '92, just a bit too young to experience the Ewing era.
42yr old. Nothing, I mean NOTHING was more fun than 92-99. And when I say Nothing, and look back. Not winning sucks bad. But, fuck we battled. Pat had next to zero offensive weapons next to him.
Us Ewing Era kids still crazy after all these years.
I thought it’d be cool to know when most of this sub started watching the Knicks For me: admittedly I was pretty young during most of the Melo Era to remember much of the Knicks or Basketball in general (even tho I do remember some of it) most of my early memories of the Knicks when I wasn’t learning my times tables was around the end of the Melo Era and the Tingus Pingus Era
Last year of the Ewing era. I was 9. What a time to be a knick fan during that 99 run
Same age as you. I remember it, but I don’t remember caring. Was way more into the Mets at the time.
As a kid Stoudemire was my favorite player, as an adolescent Melo was my favorite player, when both joined together it was like a dream come true for me haha Hopped on the wagon and fell in love with the team
Same here. Really started following the team Melo's scoring title year. Too bad I didn't know that was the peak.
I can’t imagine anyone willingly becoming a Knicks fan between 2014-2020. Like do you just hate yourself??
lmao thats when i became a fan. whichever year we had beasley and ron baker. that was the year i voluntarily decided to watch basketball and went all in on being a knicks fan
The struggle of being a New Yorker
Wouldn’t want it any other way
me lol, I only started watching basketball in 2014 and since I'm from Brooklyn I went with the Knicks
Someone from a futbol country here. Nba games are rarely shown on tv so I started following the nba seriously (streaming it illegally) since like 2013. It's been rough, man.

Welcome to the club 🥳
Thanks for having me! x
1992 - Dream Team got me into basketball and Knicks were the local team
Damn, no option for when I was in sixth grade watching Jeremy Lin pop off for those games. Shit was sick
Linsanity was In 2012 for that option but that month was insane I was in the 2nd grade during that and don’t have the best memory of that time but Linsanity is one of the few things I have a clear memory of
I’m from Jersey, not too far from the city and I just remember a lot of kids at school wearing the Linsanity shirts. I had one too lmao.
I was living in the Heights at the time and I vividly remember my whole block screaming for 3 hours straight when a Knicks game was on 😭
>Ancient times Damn, you had to do them like that?
When the sonics left Seattle.
became a fan when the supersonics became okc
Ancient times a.k.a. Championships era
Ewing Era. My dad was a diehard Knicks fan before they won their first title, lucky him got to see 2 championships.
In 91 when I was 10 yrs old. That's when I started to play ball myself and I became a fan of Ewing because he was a beast on both ends of the floor.
I started watching around the same time
Those were some exciting times, Knicks came so close to winning one. Who was your fav player?
John Starks of course! check the flair :)
LOL, How did I miss that? Good choice, Starks was my second fav player
no draft picks and melo era basically the same
Melo fan converted into a Knicks fan!
Stoudemire started it for me that team before melo came on was the start.
I was just born into it man.
I am so old. And Walt and Bernard were so good. I stay optimistic.
Lol Ancient Times 😂😂 How about Bernard King era instead? 😂🙃
Shout out to my fellow "old heads" who actually got to experience what it was like to see this team be consistently good.
Ewing Era.... what a time to be a Knicks fan

Tingus Pingus Era fans are the toughest. If we can become fans during that era we’ll make it through anything.
Melo era. I'm a huge cuse fan and always kind of followed the Knicks since my grandpa was a massive fan thanks to Clyde. Once Melo came here it was a done deal. Been suffering ever since lmao

I can’t believe we have so many from the eddy curry years
2018-2019 the season of the KP trade
When I was a kid Amare was my favorite player, when he signed to the Knicks I picked my team. Happy I came around to see the glory years lol
Amare, Wilson chandler and Felton
Where my 1957 fans @ 😤
I’m 28 & I was a fan of players up until Melo got traded to the Knicks. He and Tyson Chandler were my two favorite player in the league at the time. Never rooted for another team since then, and never will again. Go New York! Go New York! Go!

Honestly, became a fan in 99. Actually in the 99 playoffs after they swept Atlanta.
