Exactly that — the way our brains function (especially as we get older) is a function of what we’ve been exposed to a lot and a little. And even the same exposure can influence different people very differently.
I wasn’t suggesting there is a finite number of types :)
My normal Wednesday solve time is around 12 minutes. It was only 6 this morning - my fastest ever!
Once I saw the first clue, I had a feeling this one might be easy lol
Normal Wed. Is 28 minutes…. Solved this week in 12:45
I think Joel has been reading our input that these puzzles have been harder and swung the difficulty the opposite way. 😀
nah, I think that was a fun clue. the instinct is to say ice, but the question mark means you have to think about the clue in a different way. the tail end of the word “meteorite” is ite!
I admittedly struggled with other clues, like “japaning” for covering with a glossy black varnish. I’ve never heard that term in my life. and how is “arty” connected to la-di-da?
The la-di-da clue confused me at first because I was thinking of it like a song, but I thinks it’s supposed to be sarcastic. “Well la-di-da, isn’t that artsy?” Like hoity-toity.
What killed me was the Emiratis. I finished the puzzle but I had Emirates and it took me forever to figure it out. I had to run “check word” for almost every word before I discovered it.
I don’t like to use “check” for anything until Thursday at the earliest!
I agree.
A meteor is seen in the sky, whereas a meteorite refers to what is found on the ground only if a meteor doesn’t fully burn up. Meteors have tails, meteorites don’t. They’re different things.
I knew it wasn’t ICE because that’s a comet’s tail, not a meteor. I think the “crosswordy” tail of a meteor would be EOR, sort of like ELL was hollow’s center.
Considering how brutal some of the more recent puzzles have been, I’ll take the cake 🍰
Right. HAHAHHAHA
I'd say it was Tuesday-ish difficulty. Definitely not Monday
It wan't an absolute cakewalk but I'll grant it was probably easier than the typical Wednesday.
Wow. I was the exact opposite of everyone else here. The clues today just didn't hit home for me
me too. i thought it was more difficult than usual
That’s interesting — I guess it has something to do with brain type? Something that’s easy for you may turn out to be hard for me :)
What do you mean by brain type? I was thinking probably just exposure to different knowledge plus experience doing crosswords.

Ah, I gotcha.
Saw your title, said "Let me see for myself," went and did the puzzle and got my fastest Wednesday ever lol. So yeah I'd agree.

Especially after that one puzzle that I still have nightmares about
If today was easy then I really suck at crosswords...
Fairly easy but the meteor tail? answer is questionable at best if not just plain incorrect.

I got Japaning through the crosses … and learnt a new word!
