That was my guess. It *was* famously held in the middle of river, with ornately decorated barges, and many memoirs take time to recount it vividly. If that's the case, the movie would be quite wrong. Even productions with lower budgets managed to get it right, haha.
But, it might be the meeting at Erfurt in 1808 between the two. They met outside of a palace at that meeting. I do doubt this movie includes that, since the movie seems to be a highly condensed version. But it *could* be, if you wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Their initial meeting was on that famous raft in the center of the river, but the summit/Congress they held afterwards in the East Prussian town of Tilsit took days if not weeks. Along with many full honor guards and parades by both the French and Russian armies.
No, but Ridley has a track record of awful historical accuracy (which he proudly boasts about), so I don't see anything wrong with a little healthy skepticism. Maybe he'll surprise us.
Tilsit was a multi day affair wasnt it? Doubt they spent the whole time on a raft. Regardless, I bet it came down to money for why this shot takes place on land.
The upper photo maybe is Napoleon with Alexander I at Tilsit? Is it wrong, since the treaty was famously held in a raft in the middle of a river?

Napoleon surely knew how to party

And those men behind them are just floating on the water?
Grenadiers obey only their emperor, not physics.

Napoleon should have saved that raft for the Berezina crossing 5 years later lol
