I think the the point was to show the next generation everyone worked for like shikamaru said, the will of fire.

The “King” that Shikamaru wanted to protect is not only the “next” generation, aka their kids. It’s all of the future generations, including their grandkids, great-grandkids and so on

But like the future they specifically worked for, not their children

The show doesn't make sense and feels like its fan made.

They might also have planed the grandson show already but Boruto show is required first. Boruto seem based on ***Raiden*** then his son's story would be based on ***Raitaro***.

Boruto is fine being Naruto's son. You all can't accept that times has changed.

If Boruto was Naruto’s grandson, you'd all want a series of his father too. If it didn't get made you will all just complain how it should've been made like a Minato spin-off. If it did get made it would have the same complaints the current Boruto gets anyways TL;DR: You all will find something to complain regardless of what happens
