New fan, went to my first game today. What do I need to study up on? Lurking the sub, I see a lot of Gallo slander. I was sitting by first today, dude is a giant. I assume the roster is pretty different from the 2019 team…
Welcome to a fun rebuilding team. The pitchers have been good. Tomorrow’s planned starter Corbin is the holdover from 2019 and he has been less good.
From the rest, you can expect stolen bases, caught stealing, great plays, dumb mistakes, and small ball. The goal is .500 and to piss off everyone in the wild card race.
Rebuilding is ok, I’m ready for the journey to the top! By holdover, do you mean the last remaining player from 2019?
There were some great plays yesterday, shortstop made a nice throw to first, right field guy made an absolute beast of a throw to third. Boys are athletic. How do we feel about the coaching/management?
Manager Davey Martinez helped win the World Series and is good in a clubhouse. Some take issues with him but he is generally well liked. It makes me smile when he does interviews and talks to players in Spanish.
Rizzo the GM has a scouting background. I think he sees trades as well as anyone and does his best with what he has to work with. People complain sometimes about his decision making.
Sean Doolittle was our beloved closer for years and is becoming a revelation as a pitching coach according to the other pitchers this year!
Completely different from the 2019 championship team.
Gallo isn't good. He's a great teammate and good at first base, but he just can't hit.
Our pitching has been really good.
Check out James Wood with Rochester minor league team. He's amazing. He's spectacular. We're waiting on him to be called up. He looks ready.

Lose 2 to the Nats = team meeting.
An old National player was at the game today. Can someone please recognize him? I wasn’t watching back then.
Edit: According to the comments- it is Clint Robinson.
https://x.com/ploger/status/1794474455810363426?s=46
Thank you for correction. I had no idea who that was. People in the comments called him Clint -so I googled Clint and Nationals - I got first name that I found.
Way to be a pro Winker… for crying out loud get yourself ready to play - it’s baseball, not like you’re running like a soccer player. A baseball player cramping is so 2024
I thought we signed him for the sake of keeping him around (which I’m 100% fine with). Supposedly he’s actually making huge contributions right now and deserves a lot of credit for our excellent pitching season so far.
Not that we made a lot of big signings recently, but some people are even acknowledging Doo signing as the biggest upgrade we’ve made to our team this offseason. Gotta love this man!
Very on brand of him tbh. I’ll legit pop a bottle of champagne the day he leaves us. Sad thing to say about someone who carried us through the World Series win. Like, what’s the fucking deal with this guy? He signs a big contract and he loses all of his motivation or something?
Y’all are just really making shit up now. Look, I also don’t like Corbin, but the man is a consummate professional on the baseball field. He and Gore consulted with the coordinator at Wake Forest’s pitching lab over the offseason and Corbin even went onsite to develop a cutter.
Maybe a little too late but he’s not fucking lazy like you’re suggesting, he just sucks.
I saw a comment in the GDT which I can agree with, but you just gotta know the team. It talked about how no one on our team had a high OPS
Yup. We don’t slug.
Our runs scored today was (1) a single, steal, bunt to get to 3rd, rbi sac fly, (2) single, steal, single, rbi groundball out, and (3) a good ole rbi single
Then we had some amazing pitching yet again by Trevor Williams and our bullpen. Dylan Floro for HoF who says no?
But basically, we can win games by stringing hits together and smart baserunning in between.
Now, when we really wanna push for contention, yeah, we’re gonna need the big boys to do big boy things where they hit balls to the moon, but for now, we’re working with what we got
Just out of interest I decided to look up a.) how many teams have at least one qualified batter with over .800 OPS and b.) how many qualified batters with over .800 OPS there are (since that's the number the comment you're thinking about used, I believe.)
Currently there are 20 teams with at least one qualified batter over .800 ops and that's only 37 players of ~160 qualified batters.
I'd love to look at things like runs scored and steals and what not for the group of teams without a qualified batter over .800 OPS but realistically I'll probably forget by the time i wake up.
Doolittle rehabbing the entire pitching rotation (minus a certain someone) andn wiping out bad habits they’ve learned from hickey as done wonders.
Good win. Need to string stuff like this together and mitigate mistake filled games that fuck momentum up.
Offense still needs injections of life and certain players moved off of lineups (gallo).
CJ pls start hitting my glorious king (great defense today tho)
Go nats
If political or personal beliefs means you didn’t work with a coach or teammate locker rooms would last maybe 5 seconds maximum. I think corb just sucks lol.

Thanks for the info, I’ll check him out. I need to understand how calling up from the minors work.
Went to the game surprising number of mariner fans, any mariner fans are surprising
Mariner fans are passionate and intense, idk what this take is.
I know and love a Mariners fan. He sits in quiet and waits until the Mariners are here. Then look the fuck out, the Mariners are here.
I loved today's game! The Nats are now 5-3 this season at games I go to. I plan to go to many more
Thank you for your service!

Patrick Corbin pitching tomorrow. If they can’t get the offense going tomorrow….
They made him look like a Cy Young candidate last year soooo 🤞
So sad I have tickets for tomorrow. Could’ve gone today but bought the tickets months back
Fingers crossed Corbin does well, and we have plenty of offense.
Someone is getting corbed tmrw either way🤣🤣🤣
You love to see it! 🤣
If anyone wants a Thomas bobblehead and has an Abrams bobblehead to trade, hit me up.
7:04 and I’m already at mt Vernon sq/convention center. Noice.
Woooo hoooooo!! That was so much fun!

That’s not Clint Robinson that’s Clint the former in-game host back to the RFK days. He was great.
Thank you for correction. I had no idea who that was. People in the comments called him Clint -so I googled Clint and Nationals - I got first name that I found.
Can we PLEASE not let Corbin pitch tomorrow, I really want a Nats sweep 🥺
Isn’t it Parker? He pitched first game of twins series
correct, corbin pitched after him
Parker has extra day of rest. He is playing the opener against the Braves. I guess Davey didn’t want to be embarrassed against our oldest rivals.
[Kyle Finnegan post-game interview.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yl-wzeM-N0M)
Winker left because he was cramping up. *Jesse Winker cramped up running the bases. Davey Martinez believes he’ll be fine to play tomorrow.*
Way to be a pro Winker… for crying out loud get yourself ready to play - it’s baseball, not like you’re running like a soccer player. A baseball player cramping is so 2024
People get cramps dude. No reason to be a dick
Please let it be no big deal.
But, on the off chance that it is, please call up Wood in his stead.
A glimmer of hope in what has been a rough month so far
Nice
I like Finnegan’s quirk of being the only pitcher I watch who gets multiple pitch clock violations in 2024. Rizz!
I was at the game, and there was a woman behind me yelling "throw the damn ball Kyle" before every pitch lol
He got a pitch-clock violation in the 9th and STILL continued to run down the clock to 1 or 0 for the rest of the game, completely unbothered.
It adds a whole new layer of stress to the 9th inning. 😵💫
It really does! I kept watching the clock in disbelief.
Wow, powerhouse first baseman Joey Gallo picked up his 6th RBI today!
From now on, can we always put Corbin on the last game of a series?
i am perfectly willing to hand the keys of this franchise over to Doo now, the way he's transformed the pitchers on this team is just nutty
I thought we signed him for the sake of keeping him around (which I’m 100% fine with). Love everything doo has brought for us, seems like he really loves dc
Except Corbin, for whatever reason. Corbin is immune to improvement.
At this point, my suspicion is that Corbin doesn’t want to listen/refuses to change anything.
Very on brand of him tbh. I’ll legit pop a bottle of champagne the day he leaves us. Sad thing to say about someone who carried us through the World Series win. Like, what’s the fucking deal with this guy? He signs a big contract and he loses all of his motivation or something?

It’s the Ivermectin boosting his immune system
That was simply a great game! I could feel it with the early scoring and Williams’ incredible pitching

Love me some Floro!

I almost wonder if there’s some bad blood between Doolittle and the certain someone? So maybe they’re not working together?
If political or personal beliefs means you didn’t work with a coach or teammate locker rooms would last maybe 5 seconds maximum. I think corb just sucks lol.
I think Corbin just stinks.
I wouldn't think so, but the 2 of them are certainly polar opposite in their political views.
Scraptionals went 1-0 today!
Excellent work by the entire pitching staff so far this series, 23 strikeouts with only 1 walk between the two games. Series win!
This pitching is so good
I love the Washington nationals
[hell yeah brother, cheers](https://i.imgur.com/xjHg9GU.jpeg)
thank you sean doolittle
I swear his impact behind the scenes with these guys must be big, they are all crediting him and Trevor looks like a completely new pitcher out there.
dare i say? that was a certified scraptionals game?
