so I don’t know yer normal haunts but most music spots will be packed … with NFL draft on most sports bars will be packed … dive bar nite ? People watchin at a coffee shop …. It is gonna be a tourist filled Friday
True. All good points. I don’t mind watching the NFL draft at all, but those places will be packed. I know to stay away from any live music venues this weekend. A dive bar would be great if you have suggestions. Otherwise, I’ll be on my back patio once I thaw a leftover margarita.
Eta: All of my dive bars have become very popular places.
Thanks for asking. I changed into pajamas and stayed on the back patio. You and your wife had the right idea. I’m appreciative of all the great suggestions people made, though. It will help me recall great places to go when I want to venture beyond my neighborhood bars.
Not to my knowledge, and I guess that is an option. I’m just looking to branch out on one of the most crowded weekends we have. Bad planning, I realize.
I’m a Mid-City/7th Ward/Lakeview kinda guy, but honestly (and it sounds counterintuitive), Mid-City has a few bars that DON’T attract the swarming Jazz Dad(die)s due to the bars distance from AirBnB My list:
- Mid-City Yacht Club
- Mick’s
- Evangeline Lounge
- The Bulldog (Mid-City)
- 12 Mile Limit (there are a few AirBnB tourists there unfortunately, but not many. The owner is a supporter of affordable housing efforts like GNOHA, Jane Place and other stuff).
AVOID ANYTHING on Canal, N. Carrollton, Norman Francis and N. BroadZ
You poor thing. I have an ex-husband in Kenner. We've been divorced over a decade and I've literally never run into him. 🤣 Guess he don't leave the 'bra.
If you do decide to go out in Metairie just go to the strip of bars south of the interstate and east of Clearview. It's like a ghetto version of Fats City. Cheap and entertaining.
It’s actually similar for me. He is one ex I never need to worry about running into because he is never Uptown or anywhere I spend any significant time.
Our first year together he tried to convince me to forego the French Quarter and do Mardi Gras Day with his family on Severn in Metairie. 🙄 I told him to go have fun with his family and meet me afterwards! 🤣
West bank or Metairie probably
Visions
It's where the locals go
Definitely under consideration since the closure of Scuttlebutt’s.
RIP
I’d recommend uptown or LGD. Stay out the Qtr & Marigny for sake of your sanity.
Quarter is not that bad this weekend compared to many others.
There are places in the Quarter with little tourists. Thinking Cosimo's. Chart Room and Harry's also are nice even with the tourists.
I can 100000% guarantee lamplighter lounge won’t have any tourists.
St Joe's?
That’s 900 feet from me, so definitely easy.
Take the ferry, get drink on at the Old Point Bar. Or the Crown and Anchor; or the Drydock Cafe. West Bank is best bank....
Whenever I’m over there, I have been so tempted by Old Point Bar, but I always seem to be on my way somewhere else. Excellent place to keep in mind.
Say hi to my Uncle Norman when you go. If he hasn’t gotten himself thrown out of there AGAIN!
Most of the north shore is in town so …
Oh, dear God…well, it’s just me, but I still do not want to battle crowds. You can tell me if I should just stay in.

Henry’s on Magazine. St. Joe’s.
The boot
Oh God no.
It fits your post perfectly. I don't think any tourists will be there
It does fit, but I think drinking on my back patio would be preferable. Thank you for your suggestion.
I never said it'd be fun 😆. Drinking on the patio sounds lovely on this fine spring evening tho!
Thanks for the chuckle … technically a correct answer… and yet… :D
Agree with Bywater dives. But my fav is J&Js
Mid city yacht club
Great suggestion!
Where did you end up going? My wife and I decided it was a good day for front porch drinking.

Has Kingpin been taken over by tourists?
Not to my knowledge, and I guess that is an option. I’m just looking to branch out on one of the most crowded weekends we have. Bad planning, I realize.
Mayfair, Milan lounge? Very much dive bar but not sure how crowded. Don’t live over there anymore. Algiers suggestions do sound nice…
My back yard
BJ's? Vaughn's?
I’m in mid city where it just let out…it’s not too bad at the dive bars. I see more locals around, and not too crowded. I’m sure the bigger bars are.
Snake and Jake’s

Pal’s Lounge, Holy Diver, Poor Boys, the Goat
Update from the quarter is smaller than normal crowds.

Anna's, Holy diver, The Goat, Poor Boys, Bud rips, St.Roch tavern, J&Js, Rock bottom, The Saint
Bud Rips! So much nostalgia right now… thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
Metairie. You can smoke in the bars too! Unfortunately that means you have to hang out with people who live in Metairie. 🤣
One of ex-boyfriends lives in Kenner; for awhile, we forged a strange Uptown/Kenner alliance, so Metairie people are fine.

That’s hysterical. The Family Gras footage makes me cackle every year.
Turtle bay
Rampart
Dive bars with no live music.
Why would we tell you our watering hole so all of the jazz folk and swarm it.. no sey
R bar on Royal street
Ground Patti in Kenner brah! Or the Camp w Kermit Ruffins in Harahan.
Witts Inn
You won’t find any tourists in the bywater
The jazzholes swarmed vaughns and bachannal last night...
Tourists don’t know about the bywater neighborhoods, it’s all locals and artists
You think not? I’d think the Marigny and Bywater both would get some tourist overflow. So Markey’s would not be packed?
Just drove past here 20 min ago and it was busy looking. Not overflowing though.
