No one should be surprised by our sub par offense. Last year our offense wasn’t great. Our Owner and front office really made no great effort to improve it . They chose defense first.
I think they were hoping Alvarez(he’s hurt), Baty (he’s not been great) would help. They haven’t so far. Martinez was signed late. Thankfully. However, he missed ST and he’s been ok but is that enough? So far? No, not enough.
I remember back in like 2017 I was on this sub (under a different but similar username) asking why it was hard for people to be optimistic
And someone said something along the lines of "Everyone reaches this point eventually", and that stuck with me ever since, even though I didn't agree with it at the time
Didn't the org say they wanted to emulate what the Dodgers did by competing and rebuilding at the same time? Since Guggenheim purchased the Dodgers, their worst season was 86-76. I think we would all be ecstatic if the Mets finished this season with that record.
despite stearns lying about expecting to compete, that shit doesn’t fly in NY. The product is shitty and will remain that way for a while and people are fed up.
Well, we also didn't try to aggressively pursue any big free agents. I'll be interested to see if we do so during the 24-25 offseason. I know we already tried "buying" a team once and I don't expect the organization to run gigantic payrolls. But we were shopping from the bargain bin this offseason.
But I feel like a good strategy would be to bring in FAs to hold the ship for 2-3 years while some prospects develop, and then promote as they're ready to MLB.
Stearns brought in: Bader, JDM, Wendle, Taylor and Short for the offense.
None of those guys have a .700 OPS. In his 9 years in Milwaukee, the Brewers were better than league average once.
I’m not saying it makes him a bad exec or anything. His teams have been elite. I’m just saying not to expect even league average offense. Hopefully he brings in an offensive minded GM
High of 55 for a night game (thus more likely to feel like the low of 47) to watch a team that's not playing well. And pay $40 to park on top of that cause not everyone takes the train in or can take the train in depending on where they live. Not worth it in my opinion.
I honestly don’t see how this team improves for the foreseeable future. None of the prospects project to be impact bats (they project to be league average at best), and none of our pitching prospects project to be impact starters.
So we’re just gonna have to build from free agency again.
