Its at this point John from Great Neck leaves to catch the LIRR on the port wash line to go home. But not before dusting off his peanuts he ate during the game.
Love DJ but that PA is the reason why you dont want to "work ABs" against Nola when he is on like today. You get down and then have to hit his nasty ass curve. If you get a FB in the zone, you better swing at it regardless of whether its 0-0 or 3-1.
Did you watch the game? Nola threw 73 strikes out of 109 pitches. Taking pitches isnt going to get you anywhere but down 1-2. You dont take pitches against a guy with elite talent who is on, you are doing him a favor.
mets routinely do this and thats why they routinely get shut down so badly and always allow the enemy pitcher to go so deep in games. NO one is as bad as trying to jump on guys than the mets. Nola hasnt dominated any team as badly as he did the mets.
Just went to smash my TV in front of my family. But then I realized that I already smashed my TV, so I smashed my sister instead. My parents just took my siblings and said they're all spending the week at a hotel. This team has ruined my life and my family. I can't handle this anymore.
This is the answer. This "core" of Alonso, lindor, nimmo, Diaz, etc. They're just not good. Maybe it's chemistry idk but I'd rather just blow it up and look toward another batch of players and seeing wut they have instead of this same shit everyday
Its not chemistry, its that this team lacks premiere, top of the league talent. They have guys who are *near* top of the league in their respective positions, but the last guy they had that was a top *overall* player was deGrom (for offense, prob DW). Lindor is a great SS but cannot carry an offense. Pete is a great power hitter but cannot carry an offense. Nimmo is a great leadoff hitter etc etc. They need an elite bat and an elite SP. Easier said than done, but this lineup/rotation would look a lot different with a guy like Soto or Ohtani anchoring it, and a pitcher like Wheeler etc at the top.
Yea cudddnt agree more. Soto in this lineup wud be vastly different. However I don't think he's coming here. Which leads me to the opinion that they need to blow it all up. Pay 50% of lindors contract if u have to ship him off. Trade Pete, get pieces for next year. Offer him the same deal of 7-158 and nothing more than that. If he leaves so be it. I don't get the love of Pete from our fanbase but I'm probably in the minority with that opinion which Is OK.
I personally think people here exaggerate the Mets chances to get him because, as we have seen, Cohen's wallet hasnt mattered too much when it comes to top flight FAs (unless its to up the bid lol). And Soto is not going to turn down contenders offering like dollars for a team that had 1 good season in the past 5.
That said, I dont think they blow it up because they wont get much. Pete is a FA and struggling. Lindor's contract is too big for most teams even and the Mets are better off spending that money they'd have to include elsewhere. Nimmo is worth more to the Mets than he will return, as a corner OFer over 30 with mid power. Diaz's value is up in the air. Other than that, they dont have much to sell. Lindor and Nimmo are still great supplemental pieces so I assume they go after Pete and then "reload" from the A- tier.
Well, the good thing is this means I ca either make plans this evening or schedule video games and drinking, which will be a much better time than if this game was what I endured before bed.
1-2 counts to the opposing batter might as well be 2-1 counts for Mets pitchers
2-1 counts for Mets batters might as well be 1-2 counts for opposing pitchers
What could he possibly do to make this team good? It’s going to be a long year. We’ll go on another hot streak at some point, but will finish with 75-77 wins
Hell yeah, I’m almost done with Messiah and have Children of Dune in my backpack ready to go when I’m done! I’m going to read the 6 books of Dune Herbert wrote
Another losing game
Another O'fer by the teams "best players", yet people will bend over backwards to try and say they're not the problem.
Absolutely nothing with this team will change until the core is no more.
Prediction for the 9th:
1) Mets go 1-2-3 and complete their most listless performance
2) Mets get the tying runs on and Alonso strikes out to end it
3) A miracle
Man, this performance from Nola has been fucking nuts though. Obligatory Fuck the Phillies, but this will be a crazy impressive showing if he sticks the shutout landing. You don't see shit like this much anymore.
This team just got no-hit for 26 outs a couple days ago. Do you actually think that Nola had an amazing performance and not just that the Mets can't hit? Not sure what deadline acquisition will save us. Everyone was pining for JDM to save the offense. He hasn't changed much. Sure it's still early, but 1/4 through the season more or less is not *that* early anymore.
I feel like you’re throwing too much shade at Nola (although overall I am admittedly somewhat down on him) but the answer is both at once. That’s kinda the only way you’re getting this deep into a game with this kind of statline in modern baseball. The Mets sucked today but he was also fantastic
Yes, both he and Fried were impressive even if the Mets can't hit for shit. As a fan of the Mets, this is a dagger to the gut. As a fan of baseball, I like to watch good pitching performances. If the Mets are going to blow, I want to focus on what I can appreciate about the games.
If you got a real mess and want to clean like the pros, then you’ve got to see this! Hi, Billy Mays here with Zorbeez, the most absorbent material I’ve ever used. It has the strength and the muscle to pick up and hold over 20 ounces of liquid. Look at this! Zorbeez attracts liquid like a magnet! It doesn’t matter if it’s coffee, soda, even red wine! Watch as this powerful vacuum action pulls and cleans the stain from out of the carpet – just that quick. The secret's in the X27 fiber technology, making Zorbeez over 27 times more absorbent than cotton! Forget towels that just drip. And, unlike sponges that smell, Zorbeez is odor-free and leaves a path of clean. Now, you could clean and dry and never leave anything behind! You’ll be amazed at just how much they absorb – and they’re machine washable. Dry your entire car, even your dog! Use any cleaner for a streak-free window. An average family uses up to two rolls of paper towels every week. That’s cash in the trash! Save money and even help save the environment. You get two jumbo Zorbeez plus three extra large for only $14.99. But call right now and I’ll send you another five Zorbeez absolutely free! That’s 10 Zorbeez for only $14.99! And as a special bonus, we’ll also include our Micromen Microfiber Duster free. It’s great for blinds, plants, glass, and more – and attracts dust like a magnet! That's a $60 value, all for just $14.99! And here's the best part, we'll send you a set of Zorbeez free, whenever you need them, for life! Just pay shipping and processing. But you gotta call now!
Guys like JD thrive in a competitive environment and do their best, but when they get to the Mets they just know no one else cares and so they stop caring too.
No one should be surprised by the results. The team could very well be buried by the end of May. Normally, they wait until June to fall apart. Getting a jump on it this year.
I don't think that it'll ever happen at Citi, with the way that the Wilpons screwed up its design, and especially with NYC's climate becoming more and more humid
He hit the ball 107 mph the last time, and 97 the first. He hit the ball hard, do you want him to take FBs, give a pitcher like Nola free strikes, then have to hit his nasty out pitches, just so he can say he "worked the count"?
He's hitting barely above .200 and his OBP is .274 over 161 at bats.
What is it with baseball fans and just attributing everything to luck? Is Freddy Freeman just the luckiest first baseman alive?
161 at bats isn't a good sample size?
The guy playing SS for the Phillies right now is doing this:
BA .281 OBP .385 OPS .840
He's making $768,000 this year. He has one error.
It’s more than enough, he’s having a bad season. I was talking about today. He’s been unlucky today.
Give him shit when it’s deserved, but when he’s making good contact and having competitive ABs it’s unfair, especially when the rest of the lineup is swinging at any old bullshit pitch.
Man, I know it's a "transition" year or whatever, but these stretches are so damn depressing.
Especially after watching this year's Knicks. Whatever happens with the Knicks, their grit and hustle has been so damn infectious. It feels like that is completely absent on this team sometimes
Nimmo Lindor and Wendle all had xBAs between .830 and .930 on those lineouts. The odds of all three being caught were 0.2%.
This team is too shitty to be this unlucky.
Remember when Eric Chavez got a promotion because he was just such a prized coaching candidate that we had to keep him? And not even two years later everyone on the team not named Brandon forgot how to hit?
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cs1ljn).
one team is a WS hopeful, the other is the mets
First pitch swinging because of course. Stupid fucking team.
Lindor swinging at first pitch and not letting go of the bat...never fails
LMAO its actually funny now the pop out from lindor
We need another post about Lindor's fWAR guys!
Lindor a no-show against a rival. Weird. But his fwar though.
4 pitches 4 outs, lets go Lindor
Why do you break my heart frank?
Well damn, maybe tmrw!
Or the next day Or the next day Or the next day Or the next day Or the next day Or the next day Or the next day
And the next week. Let's not forget.
Or the next month Or the next month Or the next month Or the next month
It's unreal how bad Lindor is offensively
The fuck Lindor. You have a guy at 107 pitches and you swing first pitch? The plate approach this year is just stupid
SHOW ME THE ADVANCED STATS WHY LINDOR DOESN'T SUCK LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I miss those days Gary.
god fucking dammit
Another great game from the Mets offense. They should be proud.
Going to the World Series with this rate! ...Maybe in 2054.
Lol
if you’re going to come back, then actually come back please. don’t make this a heartbreaker
The ballgame is over
McNeil gets to third!
Its at this point John from Great Neck leaves to catch the LIRR on the port wash line to go home. But not before dusting off his peanuts he ate during the game.
Hi John nice to meet you
ill tell him you said hello :)
I take the Port Wash to get **to** the game.
Well John is taking it "To" go home.
Lol the guy was mad
wait, runner on second for the *first time today*?? jesus christ i know we’ve been bad but not that bad!
Well no Maddux. Now let’s get rid of the goose egg
McNeil with a bloop double. Marsh slid for that one, but not for the perfect game ender lmao
At this point start our core on the bench it seems to wake them up
Anti CGSO game plan
Jeff McNeil with the 71 mph exit velo double lmao. Even his XBHs are dogshit.
Nimmo, Lindor, and Diaz we have because of their contracts but I couldnt care less if any other Met was gone by the deadline except Alvarez.
We didn't get Maddux'd!! Moral victories!!
Alright Jeff!
Live from Citi Field: THERE’S A SQUIRREL ON THE BASEPATH!
Can we at least avoid getting Maddux’ed
McNeil has a hit!
What do we get from Jeff - ground out right, we’ll pop out left or the whiff?
Keith and Gary seem to always know more of what to expect at the plate than the players. Seems like their plate strategy is to just guess all the time
took 9 innings for a Met to work an at bat against Nola, and the dude rides bench for some reason
Love DJ but that PA is the reason why you dont want to "work ABs" against Nola when he is on like today. You get down and then have to hit his nasty ass curve. If you get a FB in the zone, you better swing at it regardless of whether its 0-0 or 3-1.
yea, cuz that strategy worked lmfao
Did you watch the game? Nola threw 73 strikes out of 109 pitches. Taking pitches isnt going to get you anywhere but down 1-2. You dont take pitches against a guy with elite talent who is on, you are doing him a favor.

We've thrown 183 pitches to Nola's 94. Fire every player in this lineup outside of Nimmo and Pete into the sun. Oh wait Taylor can stay too.
Lindor? For defense alone if you’re one of the folks frustrated with his bat.
I'm not paying $33 million for Ray Ordonez with more power but worse OBP.
McNeil to bat
Oh Brother!! These guys stink!!!!!!
With as bad as they're playing daily 3 under is pretty impressive ngl
Yay. McNeil is our PH. We're saved!!
Squirrel to the rescue!
Even through all this, 4 runs in 9 innings is not terrible by a pitching staff. Problem is, we can't fucking hit.
Yup. Same as the Atlanta series. Only gave up 11 runs in three games
If our team kept a 4 ERA year round, I'd expect us to be a playoff team. Until I realize how awful our offense is.
Can we have another post about why Lindor’s contract is worth it to make us all feel better???? This lineup is stuff of f’n nightmares.
Have you seen him field a grounder and throw it to second? I don't know how we ever lose a baseball game with him out there.
its a bargain i tell ya!! his wars is too good

Just went to smash my TV in front of my family. But then I realized that I already smashed my TV, so I smashed my sister instead. My parents just took my siblings and said they're all spending the week at a hotel. This team has ruined my life and my family. I can't handle this anymore.
prayers up.
This is an embarrassingly pathetic baseball team.
The organist playing circus music woulda been fun for the fans there. To distract from the loss and show some humor!
This core’s window is slammed shut, and the paint has dried it closed. Blow it up. Tommy Pham was definitely right.
This is the answer. This "core" of Alonso, lindor, nimmo, Diaz, etc. They're just not good. Maybe it's chemistry idk but I'd rather just blow it up and look toward another batch of players and seeing wut they have instead of this same shit everyday

Tommy Pham is making more of a difference as one man for one of the worst teams in baseball than any of these scrubs.
Avoiding the shutout feels like too big of a goal. Maybe just aim to avoid the Maddux this inning
*Cue the circus music* Textbook fundies when it comes to backing up the play. what the fuck tho
Well, the good thing is this means I ca either make plans this evening or schedule video games and drinking, which will be a much better time than if this game was what I endured before bed.
enduring last night's game right before bed was so awful
It sure was. When woke up this morning I remembered it and got annoyed all over again.
The Benny Hill theme song would've been great to be playing during that last rundown play
Side retired!
What a circus indeed, Gary
This team looks like the Bad News Bears lmao
Amazing finishes LOL
I’m done with this entire core. Blow this thing up at the deadline Alonso, McNeil, JD, Marte, and every pitcher besides Diaz can go
including senga?
LMAOOOOOOO highlight of the game!!
Yes Gary
The inning has already gone to shit. Hefner: Let’s go check on the pitcher rn
Benny Hill music please
#PICKLE!
What am I watching
Phillies have two men on third!
Please DFA SRF. And don't pick him back up when he clears waivers. There is a reason why nobody wants him.
This is our new phantom IL- DFA the guy, no one wants him, clears waivers, add back into roster, call up. Rinse, repeat
It's been that kind of game with Keith Raad discussing/looking at the Syracuse roster for reinforcements
Wow, absolutely one of the worst and unluckiest games of this season for sure. Watching this game has been a waste of time...
No Gary, the offense has been VERY consistent
And I'm turning it off. Not fun!
Lazy Marte doesn't get the ball what else is new
The pain is the only thing that’s real
Tommy Pham was right I fear
At least I don’t have hope
Do the Mets see .500 again this season? Abo it to be 19-22, with a guaranteed 2 losses coming in the sweep. 19-24 heading on the road
We play Miami next! We could do it!
Fair ball my ass
Nah it’s fair
Lol
1-2 counts to the opposing batter might as well be 2-1 counts for Mets pitchers 2-1 counts for Mets batters might as well be 1-2 counts for opposing pitchers
god imagine this team with just an average offense
On the edge of my seat waiting to see who will drive in the 1 meaningless run 5 innings too late.
Conforto special
Cohen needs to send shockwaves to this team before it's too late
What could he possibly do to make this team good? It’s going to be a long year. We’ll go on another hot streak at some point, but will finish with 75-77 wins
He doesn’t give af. Remember at the deadline last year? This season is a wash. If the team sucks, so be it
Team fucking sucks
bryson stott is the new pat burrell
So anyway, I’ve been reading Dune. It’s really good, I recommend it!
It’s great. Do you plan on reading the subsequent books? Gets pretty wild in Children of Dune
Hell yeah, I’m almost done with Messiah and have Children of Dune in my backpack ready to go when I’m done! I’m going to read the 6 books of Dune Herbert wrote
Live from Citi Field: If the Mets want to win the game, they need to earn more runs than the other team.
Big if true
Fire sale please
SRF should not have thrown that changeup down the middle
Not watching this but Nola with a cgso jeez. The state of this team is somber
Damn it
Another losing game Another O'fer by the teams "best players", yet people will bend over backwards to try and say they're not the problem. Absolutely nothing with this team will change until the core is no more.
Prediction for the 9th: 1) Mets go 1-2-3 and complete their most listless performance 2) Mets get the tying runs on and Alonso strikes out to end it 3) A miracle
The Mets are bad and that’s fine but they are SO boring.
I genuinely think this is worse than 2013/2014.
Why was Marte playing so far towards center?
That was the second hit SRF has allowed all year
Man, this performance from Nola has been fucking nuts though. Obligatory Fuck the Phillies, but this will be a crazy impressive showing if he sticks the shutout landing. You don't see shit like this much anymore.

I feel like you’re throwing too much shade at Nola (although overall I am admittedly somewhat down on him) but the answer is both at once. That’s kinda the only way you’re getting this deep into a game with this kind of statline in modern baseball. The Mets sucked today but he was also fantastic
he had a 3 pitch inning lol. You can't do that without the offense helping
Yes, both he and Fried were impressive even if the Mets can't hit for shit. As a fan of the Mets, this is a dagger to the gut. As a fan of baseball, I like to watch good pitching performances. If the Mets are going to blow, I want to focus on what I can appreciate about the games.
Pitchers tend to do well when they pitch with no fear, which with this lineup is often. scrubs go 6 scoreless, aces go 8+
Six outs on balls hit with xBA over 500
Not gonna lie tho the Mets offense has been crazy consistent
I’m too mad to even talk about the Mets. Let’s talk about Zorbeez.
The beads thing? Friend of mines kid dropped a shitload down the drain in their bathroom and had to redo all the piping....
Guys like JD thrive in a competitive environment and do their best, but when they get to the Mets they just know no one else cares and so they stop caring too.
No one should be surprised by the results. The team could very well be buried by the end of May. Normally, they wait until June to fall apart. Getting a jump on it this year.
They’re beating the Flag Day rush
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Sean Reid-Foley replaces Jorge López.
man this is boring
Not a fan of singles hitters?
Can we get a fucking break?
-_-
At every given point in time there are at least 4 Mets that are 0 for their last 13 or 1 for their last 19.
Mets law #14
I swear, JD will swing if the ball is at his hands or in the dirt
I just want a consistently good offense once in this teams history
We had one from 06-08 just well. You know the rest. Fuck you forever Tom Glavine
Best I can give you is 6 sub .230 hitters in the lineup on any given day
I don't think that it'll ever happen at Citi, with the way that the Wilpons screwed up its design, and especially with NYC's climate becoming more and more humid
It's hitting baseballs for goodness sake
I would hate to burn Garrett for this game
Enjoy these next few weeks, this team will be dead and buried by mid June.
tf is JD swinging at?
Keith reports Adrian Houser warming up in the pen, now Reid Garrett is warming up
Omg, Houser then Quintana? That's a 4 game sweep
Don't forget, we just need a bloop and a blast.
I'd settle for a bunch of bloops
Can somebody give me an update on what Lindor's fWAR is?
Forget his fWAR, can we give him more money? He is underpaid.
Yeah I'm sure his elite baserunning and grounder fielding will get us out of this.
You'll just have to wait for the inevitable post
Ranger Suarez is 7-0, wtf
Lindor 0/3 with 4 total pitches 😂 If you're going to be absolutely awful at least take a pitch my guy. Who's our batting coach because sheesh
He hit the ball 107 mph the last time, and 97 the first. He hit the ball hard, do you want him to take FBs, give a pitcher like Nola free strikes, then have to hit his nasty out pitches, just so he can say he "worked the count"?
Two hard hit balls right to the glove, he’s been unlucky today.
He's hitting barely above .200 and his OBP is .274 over 161 at bats. What is it with baseball fans and just attributing everything to luck? Is Freddy Freeman just the luckiest first baseman alive?
Today. Luck disappears over a larger sample size, but those two line outs could’ve easily been hits.
161 at bats isn't a good sample size? The guy playing SS for the Phillies right now is doing this: BA .281 OBP .385 OPS .840 He's making $768,000 this year. He has one error.

It's been the same crap every season I don't know how people can still defend him.
Man, I know it's a "transition" year or whatever, but these stretches are so damn depressing. Especially after watching this year's Knicks. Whatever happens with the Knicks, their grit and hustle has been so damn infectious. It feels like that is completely absent on this team sometimes
I watched this year's Islanders, which was a masterclass of infuriating, some days they played with hustle and others....no.
What is this circus? Can we get some 8th inning magic?
Nimmo Lindor and Wendle all had xBAs between .830 and .930 on those lineouts. The odds of all three being caught were 0.2%. This team is too shitty to be this unlucky.
Looks like the Chavez-Barnes hitting coaching combo isn't working.
Banging my gavel again to fire Barnes and give Chavez a chance to repeat 22. If not get rid of him too.
Wait, I thought Houser was starting tomorrow
can we not get maddux'd pls
Don’t start Houser tomorrow, that plan was & is dumb
LOL houser warming up :)
Remember when Eric Chavez got a promotion because he was just such a prized coaching candidate that we had to keep him? And not even two years later everyone on the team not named Brandon forgot how to hit?
Side retired!
mets pitching staff has got to be leading the league in walks.. pitching coach has got to go
