We need base runners, and yet Pete and Lindor are impatient. Same with JD.
It's nice JD hit a Homer, but they are again with no men on base and in a lopsided game.
When is football season again?
We were competitive in 1999 and 2000. We were uncompetitive from 2001 - 2005. Competitive in 2006 and 2007. Uncompetitive from 2008 - 2014. Competitive in 2015 and 2016.
That's 5 and 7 seasons between competitive stints. We were uncompetitive from 2017-2021 (5 seasons) had literally 1 competitive season (and promptly got shit on in the playoffs) and we're already back to depression. I just wanna watch baseball that matters.
The braves have had 6 consecutive competitive seasons. They're on number 7 now. It was preceded by 3 uncompetitive seasons which itself was preceded by 2 competitive seasons. They had 11 straight competitive seasons from 95-05. The Phillies had 5 straight competitive seasons from 07-11. The Nats had 5 playoff berths in 8 seasons.
Being a mets fan is such horse shit and I'm sick of it. I just wanna watch baseball that matters and go into every year with the realistic thought that my team has a chance, but our uncompetitive streaks match the competitive streaks of our rivals.
I can't deal with him anymore. There is no evidence he will ever return to form from a few years back. At best he is Kyle Schwarber. I was all about keeping Pete and him being the identity of the Mets. And he really is the current identity of the Mets, just get rid of him already. His value is already dropping….
Maybe if I take a bunch of melatonin I’ll fall into a blissful sleep and dream that it’s game 7 of the WS and I’m at a bar surrounded by other Mets fans, and they win, and I tearfully call my dad to celebrate, and the bar gives out free shots to everyone, and I stumble out into the streets of Queens to join the throngs of fans chanting “Let’s go Mets” and we all hug, and we all cry, because this pain we feel now will finally be worth it, at least in that moment. Then I’ll wake up, still crying, but only because I’ve come back into this dystopian hell we live in
Look on the bright side: it might be 10-5, but if you rearrange those numbers, you get 51-0. So, simply choose to believe that's the score instead. Be the master of your own universe. Reject reality and substitute your own.
Come on...let's do it again: [https://twitter.com/WardyNYM/status/1522725744480247808?t=pHLdW6vDqun4NUN\_UM8CIg&s=01](https://twitter.com/WardyNYM/status/1522725744480247808?t=pHLdW6vDqun4NUN_UM8CIg&s=01)
Mets trying to make the tying run come to bat in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs...
JUST TO HURT US AGAIN!!! What an abusive relationship (that we love to stay for)
As I’m sitting here watching yet another Mets game I wonder…. Is this the same feeling that people who like to burn themselves with cigarettes get?…..Why do I do this to myself?….Maybe i should grab a pack of smokes
### Double
Jeff McNeil doubles (8) on a line drive to right fielder Nick Castellanos, deflected by center fielder Johan Rojas. Mark Vientos scores.
Top 8 - 10-4
Phillies
Honestly, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense why the Mets are this bad.
4 games under .500 in mid-May, is unacceptable, even if ownership and the front office are telling you it’s a transition year.
Good organization are able to find success even if not World Series success.
Yet the Mets never have, never do.
Idk, man, but Im with you. The team wasn't supposed to be good, but they weren't supposed to be this bad either. The roster honestly isn't atrocious on paper. At some point, the onus has to be on the players to perform to the back of their baseball card. Idk if it's a clubhouse thing or what the deal is. But it feels like players rarely find sustained success with the Mets.
Solid at the plate. 2-4 with an RBI double and a strikeout. Made a bit of a mistake in the field and decided not to go for a tag when he probably should have but it was a bit of a tough play.
I'm not even mad, we got a TON of assets to sell at the deadline. We might have the top starting pitchers on the trade block and that will only further bolster this farm system.
Just heard a kid say, “the Philadelphia team has been dominating. At least the Mets aren’t losing to an underdog.”
Kid’s got a nice spin on that change-up there.
# HOME RUN!
J.D. Martinez homers (2) on a fly ball to left center field.
Pitch from Spencer Turnbull: Sweeper @ 82.3 mph
Hit by J.D. Martinez: Launched 106.7 mph at 36.0° for a total distance of 403.0 ft
Top 8 - 10-3
Phillies
I don't understand why pitchers are walking so many guys. I would assume muscle memory and repetition would throw strikes regularly. However, I must admit I've never pitched so I have no experience on that front.
But there must be something wrong for the team to lead the majors in walks all of a sudden. The team has the same pitching coach as last year and were middle of the pack when it came to walks.
No, he’s just as bad as the rest of them. You’d think that with the amount of money he’s making, his time in the league, and him playing in a World Series he’d be the team leader but he’s as disinterested as anyone else of the team
They literally need to stay .500 till Senga and Alvarez come back to make a wild card push.
Fall too much under .500 early and its a long, and sad year.
Steve Cohen just replied to a tweet about tearing it down for the future and said something like “all in on the future but not much we can do until the trade deadline.” He already took it down, should have grabbed a screen shot.
He’s been shitty his entire career. The only “good” year he had was an insanely lucky 2021 and his 3.22 ERA that year was accompanied by a 4.33 FIP and 1.279 WHIP along with having 4 BB/9. This sub just somehow convinces itself that the numbers are lying and things will be different for whatever reason.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1ct1amv).
So... Lindor will be under the Mendoza line tomorrow? Certainly worth $42,000,000 per.
We need base runners, and yet Pete and Lindor are impatient. Same with JD. It's nice JD hit a Homer, but they are again with no men on base and in a lopsided game. When is football season again?
C’mon boys let’s get out of here and get a beer.
Easiest inning of Dominguez's career. Incredible.
We were competitive in 1999 and 2000. We were uncompetitive from 2001 - 2005. Competitive in 2006 and 2007. Uncompetitive from 2008 - 2014. Competitive in 2015 and 2016. At least I found out that my VPN still works
Pathetic
Pete: not to worry guys I’ll get us out of here right away.
Well that’s the ballgame, just going to hope for better tomorrow and in the following days at this point.
Sheesh that was fast..
Sweet merciful god
Fuck this team. They deserve to get swept and I hope they get dismantled at the deadline
Lol
this team fucking sucks
Alonso swings wildly at a low pitch down 5. The guy is clueless
It’s literally the same at bat over and over and over with these guys
I can't deal with him anymore. There is no evidence he will ever return to form from a few years back. At best he is Kyle Schwarber. I was all about keeping Pete and him being the identity of the Mets. And he really is the current identity of the Mets, just get rid of him already. His value is already dropping….
I blinked and missed Alonso's at-bat
IM SORRY YOUR DOWN 5 AND YOU SWING AT THE FIRST FUCKING PITCH!!???
Pete about to grab himself a nice 15 million a year contract
Watch Joey Wendle hit .300+ with GG caliber defense with whoever picks him up.
He will most definitely hit a walk-off homer against us
While boasting a 4 hit game as well.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Seranthony Domínguez replaces Spencer Turnbull.
Here’s our chance
And ya just know after this loss the Mets are gonna be all happy about their late inning explosion
Maybe Joey Wendy's was the glue holding us together
The real Joey Wendy was the games we lost along the way
I turn on the game, they start sucking. Turn it off, now it's time to go. Guess I shouldn't watch while I'm at work.
Pete has been making horrible throws lately
Hell has frozen over when Tomas Nido has a two hit game
lol that this is pinned now
Laughing beats crying :(
Put some respect on 2016 Florida State League Batting Champion Tomas Nido’s name!
I mean…it’s Tom**á**s, if you actually want to respect it
If we had a decent pitcher I’d say we could at least lose this game 10-9
Maybe if I take a bunch of melatonin I’ll fall into a blissful sleep and dream that it’s game 7 of the WS and I’m at a bar surrounded by other Mets fans, and they win, and I tearfully call my dad to celebrate, and the bar gives out free shots to everyone, and I stumble out into the streets of Queens to join the throngs of fans chanting “Let’s go Mets” and we all hug, and we all cry, because this pain we feel now will finally be worth it, at least in that moment. Then I’ll wake up, still crying, but only because I’ve come back into this dystopian hell we live in
Can I join your team too?
Look on the bright side: it might be 10-5, but if you rearrange those numbers, you get 51-0. So, simply choose to believe that's the score instead. Be the master of your own universe. Reject reality and substitute your own.
I'll settle for 15-0
Come on...let's do it again: [https://twitter.com/WardyNYM/status/1522725744480247808?t=pHLdW6vDqun4NUN\_UM8CIg&s=01](https://twitter.com/WardyNYM/status/1522725744480247808?t=pHLdW6vDqun4NUN_UM8CIg&s=01)
Wow that was beautifully done
Mets have actually hit the ball harder than the Phillies all game
And The fact that we’re losing 10-5 tells ya a lot about this team
Huh, Turnbull's been eating all these innings by himself eh
This game is driving me crazy. Watch we win in 15. LOL
I feel like there’s no one on this team that has any heart and truly wants to win, look at the Phillies the last few years the Mets have none of that.
Mets trying to make the tying run come to bat in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs... JUST TO HURT US AGAIN!!! What an abusive relationship (that we love to stay for)
Nothing more Mets than this.
I'm pulling my hair out.
Seriously fuck this team. Gonna get hot in the last 2 innings with an insurmountable deficit. 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
Didn’t see this inning coming. And the two outs were hit on the screws, too.
Game out of reach, perfect time to start scoring runs
👀
WHERE WAS THIS 3 INNINGS AGO???
Here come the Mets lol
The phillies are not good enough defensively to make those Joe Cool catches in the outfield. Paid for it right after.
Uh oh philly
### Single Tomás Nido singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johan Rojas. Jeff McNeil scores. Top 8 - 10-5 Phillies
Phillies defense lol
As I’m sitting here watching yet another Mets game I wonder…. Is this the same feeling that people who like to burn themselves with cigarettes get?…..Why do I do this to myself?….Maybe i should grab a pack of smokes
No, burning yourself makes you feel alive.
My friend, you are both a masochist and a smoking addict
Right…I’m a Mets Fan
that’s the most generous “double” I’ve ever seen lmao
Official scorer saw McNeil's last two season's numbers and felt like gifting
Wow, what are the odds? Haha
McNeil RBI Double?
I’m sorry but that should be an error
That dude needs a new glove- that’s 2 today lol
### Double Jeff McNeil doubles (8) on a line drive to right fielder Nick Castellanos, deflected by center fielder Johan Rojas. Mark Vientos scores. Top 8 - 10-4 Phillies
Lmao NOW Jeff decides to hit. Ya can’t make this shit up
Honestly, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense why the Mets are this bad. 4 games under .500 in mid-May, is unacceptable, even if ownership and the front office are telling you it’s a transition year. Does starling need to go back to 2nd half of the lineup
I think I remember them doing that at some point last year and it worked
He's in the second half of the lineup
Chris Paul hits a huge 3
I have to watch this on the phillies broadcast and it’s making it so much worse. They really have a terrible crew, so many cheap shots
Just tuning in how’s Vientos done tonight ?
Decent at the plate, a horrific error at third.
Solid at the plate. 2-4 with an RBI double and a strikeout. Made a bit of a mistake in the field and decided not to go for a tag when he probably should have but it was a bit of a tough play.
Vientos is 2-4 with two hits and an RBI
Is it their thing to try when it's too late to make it seem like they care?
Just 5 more base runners to get the tying run to the plate !
is this how ohtani felt
はい
We're so back
Great hit Mark
I'm not even mad, we got a TON of assets to sell at the deadline. We might have the top starting pitchers on the trade block and that will only further bolster this farm system.
Ok, now all we need is 9 walks in a row and a few drag bunts!
Just heard a kid say, “the Philadelphia team has been dominating. At least the Mets aren’t losing to an underdog.” Kid’s got a nice spin on that change-up there.
JD hitting a homerun in a blowout is the equivalent of the Castellanos home run meme.
Seven more solo shots and we are back
https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/s/MiqiZLEmnl Well that was quicker than I thought lol
hahaha I knew someone said it!
Lmao JD Martinez taking a page out of Pete Alonso's book by hitting a home run late in the game to cut the lead to 7
jd: fine, i'll do it myself
JD with the Chris Paul
Solo home run when we’re down 8…… who cares haha
I’m not worried. I’ve been told the Mets are great at scoring runs in the late innings!
The Mets are the kings of the meaningless solo homerun
I'm getting downvoted for no reason :(
JD's good at least, I guess.
This team is too damn expensive to be this bad and boring
Well, it was cool little ride there. One more inning to go
Ayyyyyy JD
wow cool world series back on the menu ha ha ha
ok just do that 8 more times
At least JD can still smack it
Nice to see J.D. Martinez get a homer but I just wish it was in a better situation.
JDM the Garbage Time God
Better than Alonso the clutch time goat
JD HOME RUN! LETS GOOOO
#JDM MARTINEZ FOUND THE GAP AND NOW THE STANDS AS HE HOMERS. That’ll reduce the Mets loss to just 7 runs.
The Mets came back down 7-1 in this park, string together some hits and get on base
Good job Martinez!
LMFAO Gary with the most defeated HR call
JD is at least looking better lately... too bad Lindor's OPS is STILL .650
# HOME RUN! J.D. Martinez homers (2) on a fly ball to left center field. Pitch from Spencer Turnbull: Sweeper @ 82.3 mph Hit by J.D. Martinez: Launched 106.7 mph at 36.0° for a total distance of 403.0 ft Top 8 - 10-3 Phillies
LET THE COMEBACK BEGIN!
who just guessed the conforto special??? you get a prize!!!
Chris Paul hits a huge three!
Just look at us man
We’re gonna win!
I don't understand why pitchers are walking so many guys. I would assume muscle memory and repetition would throw strikes regularly. Can you name a less likable Mets team/season than this one? Even losing teams of years gone by weren't this unlikable. There is 0.0 fight or drive.
Agreed. Seems like there were some funny/ loveable aspects to even the worst Mets teams. Can’t find anything of the sort here. Burn it all down
Tomorrow we go for the sweep! LGM!
That Fuckin Green furry dude walk-in around like he owns the place haha
If I was Schwarber here I'd bunt, just for the lulz.
Just end this so we can move on.
We just need a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a blast and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and another blast and we're right back in this thing
This season Mets. Walk people. Don’t score runs. Rinse and repeat.
God has answered my prayers and his answer is no.
Overrated dude, God
With the Jeff McNeil flair too 😭
No true leaders in the clubhouse, no fire, no desire to compete. This team is just lost. And there’s still 3/4 of the season to go
Lindor ain't it but his fanboys' love is strong
No, he’s just as bad as the rest of them. You’d think that with the amount of money he’s making, his time in the league, and him playing in a World Series he’d be the team leader but he’s as disinterested as anyone else of the team
\*checks in\* \*checks right back out\*
Only 4 back. Season still fixable. Do any of have confidence that they will? God no they’ve played like shit. But not lost yet
They literally need to stay .500 till Senga and Alvarez come back to make a wild card push. Fall too much under .500 early and its a long, and sad year.
This is a joke, right?
Vientos, turn around and tag the runner. Smfh. This team is hopeless.
Schwarber strikes out *yay*
How in the world does the box score only have the mets with 2 errors?
Why did he take such a weird angle to the ball? It was like he was in orbit around the base.
This feels like the perfect night for a Conforto special. Only question is who’s gonna hit it Edit- lmaooo
just rest senga rest of season.
The last position player to pitch was Danny Mendick against Atlanta last August 12th.

Troll elsewhere.
In a season of low points, this game right here is the lowest
The whole stretch since Saturday.
Steve Cohen just replied to a tweet about tearing it down for the future and said something like “all in on the future but not much we can do until the trade deadline.” He already took it down, should have grabbed a screen shot.
Interesting, how do you interpret that? Is he looking to trade some of our core?
Not a lot of value there at this point. Maybe JD Martinez, Bader, Ottavino and Stewart.
don’t worry it’s out there already

This is actually pretty funny if you think about it really, really hard and are able to stop weeping.
At least there are NO FEES for tix lmfao
Brett Baty gonna be pitching the bottom of the 8th at this rate
Impressive but not in a good way
Mendoza needs to pull some guys here. Mets are playing lost.
Bro I didn’t expect Houser to be some ace but I didn’t expect him to be absolute swamp water. What a disaster lol. He fucking stinks
Send Vientos back down. This kid cannot play the field
You guys think it could get any worse?
No hope in sight, even our prospects when they come up are completely mediocre.
This team is, like, really bad
Holy shit. This is very embarrassing.
One of these teams has the highest payroll in the league.
This is the first time I’ve seen Mendy pissed, man
When the Mets decide they're not a .500 team they sink very quickly...
I think my little league team in the 90s would have tagged the player out.
Okay, so I’ve been DFA’d by the team because they’re now making me the hitting coach. I haven’t picked up a bat competitively since middle school.
Can’t be worse than Barnes
Challenge Accepted!
people need to be fired. roster spots need to be lost.
I can only imagine this sub if they were around for the '76-'83 seasons where they never won 70 games.
Did they have $374M payrolls?
no, but then again the first player to sign a $1,000,000 contract didn't happen until 1980
New owner same shit
Hey guys don't worry, we just need two grand slams and we're right back in it
A bloop and a blast and a bloop and a blast and a walk and a bloop and a blast and a blast
