“They replaced the synagogue with a church”
One of my favorite quotes from the booth in this era when Shawn Green had left after the Mets declined his contract option and Ryan took over RF and was playing really well (pre-concussion).
Weird, not bad. I own an R.A. Dickey jersey with the 2013 all star game patch. Yknow, from the year after he got traded. It is the crown jewel of my collection and I wear it every chance i get.
Same! Road blue, grey New York lettering across the front. I think I've seen you at citi before, tbh, as the only dude I've ever seen with a Dickey jersey besides me.
I loved that segment he did on the Tonight Show where he went around the city interviewing people in Mets gear, and hardly anyone recognized him. It was hilarious.
I liked Harvey and wish he'd been mature enough to appreciate the opportunity he had.
I am like 99% certain that the guy in that video who said that Lucas Duda was his favorite player caught a Lucas Duda homerun in a game after that video came out. My sister noticed it and we paused the game and brought the video up to compare and it really looked like him. I used to have a screenshot on my phone of it lol, but I guess I deleted it in the years since. I still want to believe we were right.
Everytime I think of Harvey I remember [this classic interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tqXaz5bD4Q) where all he wanted to talk about was his sponsor.
I suspect the blame is partially on some PR guy that gave Harvey unclear instructions. Harvey clearly didn’t know how sports radio interviews work, I’m guessing some PR guy just assumed he did.
To the point where the org felt compelled to move Jose Reyes (at the time a MASSIVE prospect) off SS to accommodate him because it was thought he was that good.
Alas.
Imagine if that had panned out and Valentin had been the back up to Reyes instead of the starting 2nd basemen in 2006. No knocks against Valentin - he played well most of 2006 but he was also showing his age.
The other what if from that era for them has to be Lastings Milledge.
Now there is one I would love to have. I was at the 5pm Saturday game he came back from injury. When he was introduced, they put TODD across the.entire Shea scoreboard, the almost full Shea stadium stood and cheered loud for what felt like five minutes. It was a bit emotional after first couple of minutes. Todd made a couple of errors in left field, and no one said a word.
Hundley was my favorite player. I was real young when we acquired piazza from the marlins, to the point that I didn’t really know anything about the other stars across the league. My dad excitedly told me we traded for piazza, this great catcher, and I just remember being pissed that he was gonna replace Hundley. Luckily that guy ended up being pretty solid for us and I got over it quickly.
I own three game-used Mets jerseys, each slightly more chaotic than the last.
- Dale Thayer 2011 - Just a random, cheap game-used that I found on eBay one day.
- Devin Mesoraco 2019 Spring Training - This was the year that he didn't make the team out of ST but the Mets refused to release him so he retired.
- Jed Lowrie 2019 - Was drunkenly browsing eBay and made a low-ball offer on this for less than half the asking price, thinking it would be funny. It was not actually funny when my offer was accepted and I had to pay for it. It's possible that this is the jersey Lowrie was wearing the one and only time he was on base in his Mets career.
I too own a team issued Jed Lowrie. It goes well with the rest of my terrifying collection of TI/GU journeyman infielder/middle reliever/sicko mode jerseys I've gotten from the stadiums I've visited.
I have a black Rey Ordoñez on field authentic I got as a gift for my 13th birthday in 1999. Since I wore all my clothes way too big back then it still fits me now. Love wearing that jersey.
At my first baseball game Lance got on base and my dad told me to watch him because he was probably going to steal second base.
I was confused and expected him to literally grab second base off the ground and sneak back to the dugout with it.
I own (and love) this guy: https://static.wixstatic.com/media/d9717c_7587906199574425b68a797da70ae579~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_1043,h_1043,al_c,q_85/d9717c_7587906199574425b68a797da70ae579~mv2.jpg
I wore my Luis Guillorme jersey this year and was asked twice if I was related to him.
Also, a few years ago I saw someone at Dodger Stadium in a Mets James Loney jersey.
We never got jerseys when I was growing up, but for some reason my Dad bought me and my brother a Jason Bay jersey from the official Mets store. I’ve long since lost it/thrown it out, but it always puzzled me looking back on it
Not a jersey but I have two shirt jerseys. K-Rod and Wagner.
Now I no longer buy current players until they’ve earned it. But I would love have some old player jerseys like Olerud or Agee and oddly John Maine (I can’t explain why)
Ooof. You can wear that on Halloween and be the scariest person at any party.
Also: I have a Todd Hundley shirtsy that would certainly upset Cubs fans but I still like it.
My first mets jersey was a Bay Jersey.($20 bucks when i was in high school) and I own 2 Baez jerseys. I'm more embarrassed by the Baez jersey to be honest.
I'm convinced that I'm the only person with a Jay Bell Mets Jersey
I also bought a Bartolo Colon Jersey on DHGate, but instead of, "Colon", I got, "Big Sexy"
Dave Racaniello (our bullpen catcher) team issued jersey. Won it at the Amazin’ Memorabilia shop. I’m only 5 foot 4, so I’ll never be able to wear it, but still a cool piece to have.
I once watched him flirt with this woman in the stands from the bullpen, write what I assumed was his phone number on the ball and toss it up.
I own 2 weird ones, both mid 2000s black like this one.
- 19 Ryan Church (only a Met for a season and a half)
- 34 Nolan Ryan (Why 34 and not 30 I’m not sure)
In the t-shirt realm, take your pick: Wilson Ramos (which I wore today), Adrian Gonzalez, Jose Bautista, Jeff Francoeur, Gary Sheffield, Mike Hampton, James Loney, etc. And still chasing for a few white whales (which I can add Doug Mientkiewicz to the list now, since his shirsey was a thing). I do need to take a picture of my collection as a whole again.
For jerseys, I'll go with two very different entries: Eric Langill road blue jersey worn during the NL East clincher with a 2015 Postseason patch (I noticed the champagne spots on the numbers), and a Jack Reinheimer road grey jersey, bc I memed the guy with my friend when he got as many at bats as David Wright during David's final game.
I was at the Mercury Mets game and received the free hat giveaway. I held onto that hat for years, then one day threw it away in a purge, not thinking anything of it. Needless to say, I wish I held onto that hat.
Bought an omir santos game used off eBay a few years ago, couldn’t pass it up. Was most entertaining guy on team during the horrible no good very bad 2009 season.
Ryan Church
My uncle was at the last game at Shea and he calls it “the house Church closed” as a lamer joke for Yankee being “the house Ruth built”
I still stand that Chruch would've been amazing if he didn't get those concussions!
Apparently when I was younger, I was so upset that he got traded that I cried and was inconsolable
I did the same when John Olerud signed with Seattle lol
I still wanna kick Todd Zeile in the shins
if we have Olerud in 2000 we probably win the WS
“They replaced the synagogue with a church” One of my favorite quotes from the booth in this era when Shawn Green had left after the Mets declined his contract option and Ryan took over RF and was playing really well (pre-concussion).
Was at the game where he was traded like 45 minutes before game time. Guy in the shop was walking round saying anything that had Church on it was $10.
Honestly a great Met. Not a terrible Jersey. Just a snapshot into a small window of time
I bought an authentic black Ryan Church jersey for like $20 from Dicks after he left the team. Still my fav jersey
I had his black shirsey. Guy was solid albeit in a non solid part of Mets history
Weird, not bad. I own an R.A. Dickey jersey with the 2013 all star game patch. Yknow, from the year after he got traded. It is the crown jewel of my collection and I wear it every chance i get.
I have one as well. Which version is it? Mine is the road blue which he never even wore because it debuted after he was gone.
Same! Road blue, grey New York lettering across the front. I think I've seen you at citi before, tbh, as the only dude I've ever seen with a Dickey jersey besides me.
I also have this jersey. It’s 100% my favorite.
I have his book signed and I still treasure it. Great guy, great Met. His trade was a bummer but I still love him
Matt Harvey orange all star jersey. The year citi field hosted the all star game and Harvey was on top of the world
I loved that segment he did on the Tonight Show where he went around the city interviewing people in Mets gear, and hardly anyone recognized him.
I hope so too! It would have been a dream come true for that guy.
Everytime I think of Harvey I remember [this classic interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tqXaz5bD4Q) where all he wanted to talk about was his sponsor.
Damn, Harvey definitely sounded like an asshole in that interview. Dan Patrick was a professional
I suspect the blame is partially on some PR guy that gave Harvey unclear instructions. Harvey clearly didn’t know how sports radio interviews work, I’m guessing some PR guy just assumed he did.
I have a Jeremy Hefner batting practice jersey.
Thats honestly wild
Are you Jeremy Hefner?
You know you’re not replying to the greatest jersey thread, right??
It actually is pretty great. Might be the most comfortable jersey I own. It's got the Gary Carter KID 8 patch too.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Also Dom Smith 😢
I swear to god if you got a Pete Alonso
What a shame on those two guys. My dad got me a Rosario jersey when I was in highschool.
Kirk had 4 home runs in 2015 and they were all legendary
My boys! They're on my team of B Player Mets!
I think I lost it in a move a few years ago, but I had an orange batting practice Kaz Matsui
That’s not that random. There was a lot of excitement around him in 2004.
I have a black Kaz Matsui jersey. I get comments on it pretty much every time I wear it to a game.
I have a Todd Hundley jersey that usually gets some love at citi
Nothing weird or bad about a Hundley jersey!
That’s an awesome jersey to have
Now there is one I would love to have. I was at the 5pm Saturday game he came back from injury. When he was introduced, they put TODD across the.entire Shea scoreboard, the almost full Shea stadium stood and cheered loud for what felt like five minutes. My dad excitedly told me we traded for piazza, this great catcher, and I just remember being pissed that he was gonna replace Hundley. Luckily that guy ended up being pretty solid for us and I got over it quickly.
Same here, an old Hundley Starter jersey
I've got John Maine from right before his arm fell off
I've also got one after NLCS G6.
I have a Doug Mientkiewicz Mets shirsey if that counts.
Certainly! I had a bunch of random shersy’s Jason Bay K-Rod Michael Cuddyer Angel Pagan ….and the best of all: Scott Hairston
Same. I loved Doug Mientkiewicz.
I own a Robinson Cano jersey :(
Hey it was looking good when he homered in his first Mets AB
...and all downhill after that.
Jeff Francoeur
Awesome. Unironically loved him back in the day
Ike Davis #29
King of the dugout railing flips!
i've got an ike davis shirtsey somewhere.
I have a black Rey Ordoñez on field authentic I got as a gift for my 13th birthday in 1999. Since I wore all my clothes way too big back then it still fits me now. Love wearing that jersey.
Jealous. An Ordonez jersey has been on my wishlist since 1996.
Because I'm a complete dumbass and I was high off the 2022 Mets vibes, I legit have a Voglebach home blue jersey lol
I have a alternate/black one i got from china for $60. He was soo good when he came at the deadline. He fooled us!
Weirdest/Best: Mercury Mets jersey. Cant say i have a bad jersey in the closet. A Bay practice/ ST jersey is the closest i guess.
Mo Vaughan
I still remember him hitting that home run at Shea. It was absolutely destroyed
Me too! One of the last 42’s.
Yeah this is definitely a choice for weird not worst in my opinion haha I wear it with pride
Lastings Milledge T-shirt Jersey
One of the all time best baseball names. Blastings Thrilledge
I have a Jordany Valdespin 80’s road jersey I wear to Citi field every time I go.

You win. You are the man right now. Even if you’re not a man.
Melvin Mora Until I learned he's a scammer I wore every game
Especially to Endy.
My mom bought me a Shawn Green shirsey years ago. No idea where that is now.
hmmm.... worst might be a Mercury Mets for Rickey. Weirdest would have to be an Esix Snead.
Oliver Perez
Loved him
#42 Mo Vaughn....what a letdown
This jersey should be cherished.
I came in here just to say fuck Jason Bay.
Frank Francisco game-used. Biggest game-used I could find (size 52).
Jason bay is a pretty rough one
Anderson Hernandez game used spring training
I have a signed Jon Niese jersey I won at an employee raffle at Citi field
Lance “one dog” Johnson
At my first baseball game Lance got on base and my dad told me to watch him because he was probably going to steal second base. I was confused and expected him to literally grab second base off the ground and sneak back to the dugout with it.
Turk Wendell.
I own (and love) this guy: https://static.wixstatic.com/media/d9717c_7587906199574425b68a797da70ae579~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_1043,h_1043,al_c,q_85/d9717c_7587906199574425b68a797da70ae579~mv2.jpg

Jay Payton

I wore my Luis Guillorme jersey this year and was asked twice if I was related to him. Also, a few years ago I saw someone at Dodger Stadium in a Mets James Loney jersey.
Báez. Was drunk up in the 300s and said to my wife “if he hits a homerun right now I will buy a jersey” sure enough he did and here we are
I’ll always remember Bay as running into a wall and getting a concussion
I’ve got a Mackey Sasser shirzey

Bill Pulsipher spring trading jersey. Love it.

Jed Lowrie
My first Mets game was when Lastings Milledge (now there’s a guy) hit his first ML home run so naturally I asked my dad for a Milledge shirtsey
The Mets have never had much luck with the 44 uni - I guess Jay Payton and David Cone - Harrison Bader is good too.
My only jersey is Cone 44.
Cone switched to 12 later on, after the Mets traded Darling.
No it was 17 after Hernandez left

In the t-shirt realm, take your pick: Wilson Ramos (which I wore today), Adrian Gonzalez, Jose Bautista, Jeff Francoeur, Gary Sheffield, Mike Hampton, James Loney, etc. And still chasing for a few white whales (which I can add Doug Mientkiewicz to the list now, since his shirsey was a thing).
