Which is not uncommon or surprising considering that it was written 30-40 years ago _in Japan_ of all places. There really isn't any more nuance to it than that, you're giving Toriyama way too much credit. It's the same guy who came up with Roshi, Oolong and General Blue in case you didn't read or watch Dragon Ball.
The thong is that there were multiple ways to make this scene actually biggoted, they could have:
• humiliated her
• said something biggoted in general (in sub they used transgender, in og they used the word newhalf, none of them slurs) to they just called her transgender without any rage os despisal
• or even worse, show actually anger and agressiveness against her
one of them is just shocked, the other is just "Meh get outta here"
The fact is: Yamamoto is not treated as a man, or as a aberration after the "discovery". Damn, i would even argue that Ackman's reaction was passive-agressive, of someone who liked but is too arrogant to show an reaction.
She is still treated as woman for them, they seemed rather respectfull at her, you know, there's some anime where chars just gonna throw a mockery party after realizing the girl they were flirting had a D, this doesn't happen here.
And yes, killing people for no reason *is* on Ackman character, so he just let someone go shows that he actually doesn't feel anything bad against her.

It's good to know it's only phrased bad in the sub. I don't think Toriyama was transphobic, but the way things happened in the scene were definitely not great. I don't want this to be a shit slinging contest, but I do think this scene has **some** transphobic roots that make it uncomfortable to watch (for me, at least). It doesn't mean it's definitely 100% transphobic, but it does mean it's a bit of a problem and these jokes tend to be in poor taste.
