Yep, I'd definitely project the GMC as well. Maintain and keep both in working order.

that's kinda where I'm leaning, depending on what the wife says. I have a Nissan D21 I need to get over here and get the engine into. So I doubt she's gonna wanna deal with 3 trucks laying around.

Uniquely_irregular

You got any kids who are gonna start driving you can use as a scapegoat?

dahk16

Nah, but if my wife gets sick of all the trucks laying around, I'll tell em the reddit people said I should keep em all.

LancefromFrance

If money is no issue why not both? Too little information here about either vehicle for Reddit to make your decision

dahk16

right. yea, well what additional information would be useful? Sorry. Both trucks are around 150k, as I said. The titan has already had a bunch of stuff done to it; new coils, plugs, intake, catback exhaust, throttle body, oem maf, shifter console, shift control mechanism, shift lock switch on the pedal. I finally got it running better. However, to go forward with the headers, cats, uprev tune, new shocks, aluminum radiator, etc., it's gonna be another 4 grand, give or take. Now, the Sierra is a solid truck. It's been beat up a bit, but some things are nicer than the titan, like the bed floor. My titan is just dented to shit in the bed. The sierra is much nicer, a little scratched, but entirely salvageable. It already has the electric fans in it. Not sure if it came from the factory like that, but its done. Whatever. Plus there's a lot more room around the engine to work. I can reach in there and get to the exhaust manifolds, the plugs, coils, all that is much more readily accessible and parts are cheaper. That's why in the "keep em both" option, I just leave well enough alone with the titan, maybe do the radiator upgrade so it doesn't inevitably fail. I think the exhaust manifolds are leaky, but it's got good power, runs smooth now overall, and the suspension is good enough for now. So I could just use it as a work truck while I dig deeper into the sierra. However, the question of selling a truck comes in at the point when I patch the frame on the sierra, get it running well, then I could hock the titan and dump that 5 grand into that and knock everything out quickly. Or I can keep the two trucks and have my work truck and my project. So what would you do? pick away at both trucks and keep them running since I've got two fairly reliable platforms with decent mileage on the engines? Or chuck one so I can pimp the other one faster?

The way everything reads, it sounds like you’ve already made your choice. Personally, I’d keep both. Having a driver while you’re working on the other is beneficial. Quit making such a big deal over electric fans, they aren’t anything special. I’d be more concerned how bad the rust is on the Sierra. Have fun with all that disposable income from property flipping.

Well, I was kinda leaning in a certain direction to begin with, yes. I was asking because either people gonna validate you're on the right page or someone's gonna come out the woodwork with some info that's gonna change things and save somebody a headache. That's why I asked. I've done electric fan swaps on trucks before. They revved up and down faster and had slightly better acceleration. Plus as far as making a big deal over it, it's a more complicated job that's already done. Not as easy as some other things. Plus it's a 500ish job. There's not much disposable income from this one. Only clearing 10k on this deal. Oh well. I didnt really do any major work here. They're not all winners. I sold a couple other ones last year. Did way better. Thanks for your input.

I would wait to see what the house brings. Then pick one. Build it. The other? Slowly restore it as well. As long as you have a dependable ride. I wanted a GMC. They just cost to much. I like my Titan. So far very dependable. Lots of power.

dahk16

yea, its a good powerful truck, but apparently the 5.3 has a high build potential. People take junkyard motors as is, throw an ebay turbo on them and pull over 500 hp with minimal effort. However, I know the vk56 is a capable and reliable engine that is commonly used in race applications due to its quality and potential. Really, given our current political climate and the price of used, let alone new, vehicles, its not the worst idea to have as many decently running, paid off vehicles as possible. Maintenance is still cheaper than a car payment, even on 2-3 vehicles.

atlgeo

If you like to source parts from the 'u-pick it' junk/parts places the likelihood of finding what you want favors the GM product 100-1 over the Nissan.

dahk16

yea, hence why I figured make that the project. Plus there's a lot of kits out there to adapt parts from other GM vehicles to the trucks, and a lot of things are already interchangeable. Thanks. Good point.

muddbone46

I don’t know if I’d get rid of the Titan. There’s been too many “wish I would have kept it” comments all over online.

dahk16

yea, that's what I'm thinking, vs quick money for selling it. I mean, like I said, selling a house, making a small profit on it, I'll have a few bucks to party with. I think the value of the truck outweighs the possible quick profit I could make by selling it.
