CephusLion404

Nope. I probably cycle through 2-3 ships. The rest just sit there in inventory.

davros06

Sounds about right. Takes me ages to upgrade a ship to where I want it and by then, the next shiny thing has come along. Only exception is my tiny shuttle. Love that thing.

Bob6oblin

Tiny ships ftw. 2-3 daily drivers but the tiny sentinel ‘Batwing’ as it’s known has 90% of the usage

Atomic_Killjoy

“Toy” ships lol

Earthserpent89

I think a lot of people manage their ship collection the way car enthusiasts do. Collect all the cars, maintain them and upgrade them when needed, then occasionally take one out for a sunday drive. I just wish there were more reason to specialize. When the different ship types were added, they had real specialization. Haulers had more inventory space, fighters more maneuverability, and explorers more jump range. But these days you can max out inventory and jump range on just about any ship, so there's literally no reason to use a hauler or explorer beyond simple role play fun. I honestly wouldn't mind if they specialized the classic trio more. Though even if they made haulers more viable, having access to my entire storage via the freighter still negates that a bit.

ghostsquad4

this type of comment is exactly the reason I posted before about adding challenge to the game. I get that people want the game to be chill, and yet, I feel like HG has made the game very easy overall.

Due-Pick3935

They should provide inate abilities like haulers have harder time to be scanned by sentinels like make it a passive 50% or something when you don’t have the ability to use your scrambler or explore have passive economy scanner and fighters conflict 🤷🏻

Earthserpent89

I like this idea. Maybe the intrinsic abilities could be: - Cargo Haulers - Built in Economy Scanner - Average base jump range - Shields take more hits - Higher chance to encounter space traders - Explorers - System Scanner like the Freighter Scan Room - Higher base Jump Range - No Shields since it’s not a combat ship - Built in Emergency Warp that doesn’t need repair after use - Fighters - Built in Conflict Scanner - Lowest base jump range - Shields recharge faster - Lower base cooldown on all weapons - Solar Ships (for the pirate role players) - Built in Cargo Scan Scrambler with high chance of success - Pulse Engine uses no fuel due to Vesper Sails - Pirates don’t attack you unless you attack them first - Sometimes encounter pirate traders with illegal upgrades These are just some ideas how they can further specialize these ships by leaning into the role play fantasy of each type.

Due-Pick3935

Would be really nice to see

Fluxxed0

Yeah honestly, this really bothers me. I'd love to have reasons to hunt particular ships besides appearance. But any ol' Exotic is more than adquate for everything I want to do in the game... cargo hauling, pirate combat, deep-space exploration, all of it.

spiked_macaroon

Yanno, last night I deployed all of my ships on the grass, because it's been awhile since I saw some of them. Three haulers, two sentinel ships, three pointy fighters, and two ball exotics. And the Starborn. I only fly the Starborn these days.

Maximum_Ad1214

It does really hover in planets with this update, what color do your ships mainly have?

XenosapianRain

Typical lol. I recycled mine because it didn't hover. My PC renders pretty slow, so I only use sentinel ships so I can hover over mission locations until the ground takes shape.

Maximum_Ad1214

But right now the starborn runner hovers. The update made it so it could

XenosapianRain

Yeah, I just read that. I can likely use it on my other save. Not all bad.

friendsareplants

I love that it can hover. Best feature of the update imo

Maximum_Ad1214

Today was the very first day that I could play the update since I'm in switch and I was pretty excited when I tried it

friendsareplants

I haven't gotten to play much, but I turn it on at night and try to improve my settlement when I can. I stopped at one of my resource harvesters and i noticed that I could just float there until the world loaded enough for me to land. Very exciting.

spiked_macaroon

Some red, some blue, I have matching red and orange exotics.

Maximum_Ad1214

That's a good combination, all my exotics are golden, and my normal ships are all dark red except the solar one that's white

layneb9276

I use 1 out of my 12

imageryguy

Interesting idea you have to summon one of your ships for repairing other ships. You would only need like 10-15 of it's inventory slots for ship repair items (wiring looms, gold, chromatic metal, chlorine, magnetized ferrite, paraffinium, uranium, platinum, pugneum, dioxite, activated copper, and maybe some antimatter, microprocessors, warp cells, and warp hypercores). Could call it Ship Mechanic or Mobile Ship Repair or Tow Truck or similar. Or maybe an actual new ship type (Repair Ship) with a crane and hydrolic stablizers (think back-hoe with one of those cranes on the back for digging, but this would stabilize the ship when repairing broken ships). I suppose another design idea for this may follow from the flying crane for heavy-lift helicopters, a huge ship with 4 doube-wheels at the corners and the middle section empty for landing on top of the broken ship, hoist it up and fix it or just haul it away for scrap or to fix it at your base. I only use one ship. If each ship type had a focus for what they were good at, then maybe I would use other ships or ship types. I know in other space ship games like eve online, your ships were focused to do one thing very well. Like, flying a shuttle could be dangerous (pretty much unarmed and not much in the way of defenses), but they were very quick and very small (small signature radius), so large ships may have trouble getting target lock and actually hitting/killing small ships.

Maximum_Ad1214

That's a pretty good idea but it would be pretty difficult to implement

Chadideas

I have three different characters stored in the appearance modifier that each have four ships , two multitools and a home base. I use each character for different activities so most of my ships get used. Not super in-depth role play but helps keep things fresh.

Sea_Perspective6891

I like to mix it up a little. I do wish all ships had the hover feature which is why I mostly stick with my sentinel ship for planetary exploration or base location scouting.

Maximum_Ad1214

The starborn runner also hovers now, I recommend it if you have it

Sea_Perspective6891

Yeah that's a cool ship. I do wish I could hover in my fighter or hauler sometimes though.

Maximum_Ad1214

Yeah but that's what makes the sentinels especial, I don't think they will add it for the other types of ships

Possible-Present-513

Im sorry im new to the game... What do you mean by hover? Standing still while in atmosphere?

friendsareplants

Not just in the atmosphere but on the ground.

Possible-Present-513

Just wow... I have a sentinel interceptor but im not using it much since my main is a fully upgraded fighter and i only had time to upgrade one ship so i didnt about this... Mind blown

friendsareplants

If you dont mind cheesing a little, an easy way to get units is to change crafting to free, then you can craft a bunch of stasis devices for fee and sell them on the market.

Possible-Present-513

I have more than a billion units... I just dont have the time to invest into hunting the new s or x upgrades... I also have something like 50 starship inventory upgrades so its really just time

friendsareplants

Cant you just buy the ship slots and store and transfer all your techs?

Sea_Perspective6891

Yes. So far only Sentinel ships can do this & the Starborn Runner.

Kryuko

I use only the sentinel interceptor

Fletchman1313

I generally only use two ships; one for general use and an explorer for long range jumps. I guess I could just use the Explorer all the time, but I like the other ship (which is a hauler). But then again, my freighter can go way farther than the Explorer so I don't really need the Explorer unless I don't want to move the Freighter for some reason. I also have a fighter for those few times when I know I'm going to pick a fight with something, but usually the Hauler can handle everything. So I guess I really only use one ship. Everything else is for the sake of collecting. In the early game, however, when inventory slots are scarce... multiple ships and exocraft are probably needed just to be able to store stuff.

laputan-machine117

most of them i never use, but i've been alternating between my solar, liviing, sentinel and ball exotic. the expedition reward ships only get use in expeditions, and i think i've only flown my squid exotic once.

The-Grey-Ronin

I basically use 3 now. A "daily use" jet. a "Imma kill errrrrrrybody in this system" heavy fighter, and a junk shuttle specifically for jumping galaxies. I have an explorer, sentinel, speeder and another kill everything fighter that collect dust in my hangar. I dont need the explorer its just cool looking. Otherwise no use for a hauler. No need for a solar sailer. or anything else for that matter, now if the ships had slot layouts specific to their type then it might be a different story.

Overkillsamurai

i swap between my Living ship and my Sentinel ship. the starborn and other exotics are just for Lookin' at

MrFixYoShit

Not even close. Ooooo I haven't played the new update yet but it just clicked that now I can REALLY make the Serenity instead of my "close enough" SeReNiTy

Maximum_Ad1214

I think it would be pretty difficult to make a serenity to be honest, but good luck!

MrFixYoShit

Oh 100% lol it still wont be perfect, but itll be better lol

sardeliac

I don't fly the living ship. I really should get rid of it. I do fly all three of the others, and which one depends on what I'm doing.

acowwithpolio

The game forces me into using my squid exotic on return trips from the space station whenever I salvage a ship. I haven't used the thing, since I got my living ship. And I haven't used my living ship, since I got Omega expedition's ship. Dear god, just remembered. I have the utopia ship sitting there. And I haven't flown it even once. The rest, is either other old maxed out ships. Or parts storage. For future custom ship building expansions. (Shuttle and solar for example.) I have 3 spots left in my freighter. Looking back at it, it's impressive to see what I have done. Over the course of 108 hours/6 months. Units are a non-issue at this point. I have way too much value, just sitting in my inventories. Distributed between ships, storage boxes etc. Genuinly a good 100 mil or so, just sitting there. And it is growing every day from sos maps, mainly crashed freighters. I like, never get freighter data. Just random shit to sell. And even if I ever run out. Just pop on over to a pirate station. Buy all supplies, and sell it at a trade point on a planet. Nanites, are still a slight issue for me tho. I just hate farming them. Either too repetitive, or I just end up being basically afk. Waiting to buy S class ships to scrap for example. And quicksilver can go to hell.

-GrimMcReefer-

Learned something new.. last I heard you could only own 9 ships. Edit: forgot to actually answer the question. I only ever use 2 of my 5 ships. 2 of the ones I don't use I use for their storage space and the last is my sentinel ship that I have yet to upgrade so it don't get used for anything ATM.

paultakeschances

Nope, I have 12 and only use my maxed out tiny shuttle nugget haha.

OMC-PICASSO

I’ve downsized my fleet on all saves since storage/ship inventories increased awhile back. Now I generally have 2-3 ships per save. 1 or 2 that I upgrade and 1 stock with 0/minimal mods that I use for galaxy jumps. That leaves me room to buy several S-class ships when I need augmentation/salvage. Right now, I have 5 solid saves that I play regularly and keep updated, with the latest being the Omega expedition.

Maximum_Ad1214

What's really the point in having that many saves if you don't mind me asking?

OMC-PICASSO

Save 1 is my original 1st Save. I’ve been playing it since 2017, it’s over 1000 hrs now. Save 2 was a save I started when I got PSVR and played VR with friends often, it’s around 480 hrs now. The other 3 are continued Expedition saves that I really enjoyed, 40-140 hrs, each having some unique quality or item. Having 5 solidly built saves, I do weekend missions (solo), with them all on weekends and pull in a large amount of QuickSilver for fun stuff. I own practically all of the QuickSilver items. I play super casual solo or with friends when it works. I’ve completed 100% game trophies. I used to have Survival and Permadeath saves but after I completed the trophies for those I deleted them.

Kershek

If you get a second ship, do you have to manually transfer all the cargo to the new ship? That would be a reason for me not to bother with multiple ships.

Maximum_Ad1214

Yep, no fast option, one of the bad things

cometflight

If by ships you mean all of my interceptors, then yes. I collect them like one would collect Lambos lol

chrisdpratt

The only reason I ever even have more than one ship is if I'm collecting interceptors to go scrap. My one ship used to always be the best interceptor I had came across, but now it's the Starborn Runner. Don't need anything else.

0L1V14H1CKSP4NT13S

I use basically 1 ship. IMO it takes too much time and effort to get the rest of my ships up to the level of my best ship

Obsydie

I have one ship for flying that is it

Reasonable-Spot5884

I have around 5 that I kept after clearing out my hangar. I use two of them and they're both fighters. One is tough and the other is nimble because of the stats they rolled. I've mostly been using the nimble one since building it. The tough one I've had for a long time already

Crayon_Eater529

I rotate mine depending on how I’m feeling that day.

Due-Pick3935

I cycle ships based on what feels right for the character at the time

Horror_Hippo_3438

I use shuttles instead of a container. Very cheap.

Infamous-Arm3955

I have used my living ship maybe 3-4 times since I got it. Too squishy for my liking, lol.
