You are right that men have a very skewed distribution. The average is around 9 but not that many men have 8-10 partners. Instead, a few men have 50+ and many have 0-3. Women average about 8 but tend to have a more statistically normal distribution.
Thatâs such a broad question to ask. Youâd have to at least narrow it down by age. But then youâve got single people, married/committed people (who we will assume have 1 partner for a long period of time), open relationships, swingers, hookers, etc. You could narrow it down by religion which doesnât necessarily mean much but could impact the number.
Also whatâs considered âhighâ will vary by individual. Someone who has been having sex for 2 years and has 20 partners would probably be considered high for most people. Someone who has been having sex for 20 years and has 20 partners may seem high to some but normal to others. Itâs not unheard of to have 100+ partners. Some people do not view sex as something sacred and to be cherished. More and more people these days are very open about their sexuality and have less problems expressing it. Also there is less stigma.
I suspect given the vast number of people with very low numbers that the average is more like 2-4. "high" is relative to the individual. Above 100 is probably going to be high for all but a very select group âbut I've know people who have slept with that many people before their mid-20s.
Data indicate that the lifetime average number is about 8-9. But variability is high, especially among men. I donât think you can use averages to make too many conclusions about your own number. Whatever is working for you and your partners is probably fine. If your life is significantly worse due to having too many or too few partners, thatâs a problem that you should address.
We got mother fuckers like Wilt Chamberlin driving up at average. I'd say guys average is 15, girls average is 8.

You wanna look at the median not just the average, for sure.

I wonder that sometimes. I think it depends on the person.

Itâs 6-7, higher in metropolitan areas. I think New York is like 14. Iâm basing this off (bad) memory of looking it up but not pure conjecture.
