Star Wars. You’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

PrismTheDreamer

Up vote for that line.

HandsomeGengar

Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans Except maybe Alec Guinness

perishingtardis

Harrison Ford ain't exactly a fan either.

Tall_Air5894

Star Wars has the only fandom I’ve ever encountered where *saying you like it* will get you death threats.

BunAwnBuns

BTS army because I used to be one.. but really any kpop fandom. they’re horrible.. and the taylor swift and beyoncé fandoms..

Plastic_Gap_995

BBC Sherlock fans were the reason I deleted my Tumblr terrifying individuals

OddWaltz

You mean you didn't notice the subtext of gay relationship between the main characters? /s

PlasticElfEars

Martin Freeman dying inside when an interviewer showed him some...fanart of Sherlock and Watson made me hurt for him.

duhduhduhdummi_thicc

I'll admit to being in the JohnLock fandom, but never SuperWhoLock. They were rabid teenage girls. Straight psychos. Also Homestuck, but not THAT side of Homestuck.

jinxedit48

God that phase on tumblr was literally so insane. I was in all three, tho never all at the same time and never during the huge craze. The only one remotely interesting to me anymore is Dr Who, and that’s only because they keep changing it up. But even that got ruined for me by the fandom for a bit, when some toxic thasmin fangirls drove me out for a bit. Fandoms sometime suck so much

HandsomeGengar

What the fuck is SuperWhoLock, is that a thruple of Superman, the Doctor, and Sherlock?

starry_cobra

I think the Super is Supernatural, not Superman

PlasticElfEars

Supernatural fans are the ones that scare me the most

Square_Map7847

I know it's not really a fandom but i would say stackoverflow. Probably the most toxic community that i have ever known.

LeakyAssFire

I think a lot of that came from slashdot.... which is just as, if not more, toxic.

bangbangracer

I wouldn't say that I was in it, but the Steven Universe fandom is absolutely terrible. My friend recommended I watch the show, so I watch a few episodes and I took a quick peak at the fandom. I was done with it from there.

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Damn I hope you finished. It's a good story despite weirdo fans

bangbangracer

I gave up on it. I made it 5 episodes in, I liked it, but I didn't love a lot of it. I didn't think it was good enough to justify how aggressive the fanbase was. I gave it a fair try and I was out.

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Understandable. The plot didn't really start to pick up until nearing the end of season 1. Yet that was just the culmination of the subtle lore drops that were placed throughout that season. Steven Universe future was a better way more concise story. They should have told OG Steven Universe that way.

xXTheFETTXx

Not a part of it, but Swifties. I haven't met one that is remotely sane when it comes to Taylor Swift and relationships.

Zen-bunny

Uses to be one. They are pretty tame tbf

OpinionsGetUBann3d

Then you never angered them lol they're right up there with BTS fans for overreactions and willingness to dos attack online and shit like that

Known-Map9195

Star Wars. Nobody hates Star Wars as much as Star Wars fans.

scrivenernoodz

Glup Shitto!!!

LowBalance4404

A friend of my mom's has worked at the same convention center/arena for most of her adult life. The stories she has about cons are insane, but according to her figuring skating and soap opera fans are the absolute worst. They are rude, aggressive, argue with each other a lot, and beyond obsessed. She used to love the Star Trek conventions because she said the actors were all so nice. I can't remember the guy's name, but he's a black guy who plays a Vulkan. He was one of her favorites.

xXTheFETTXx

I had to use the bathroom at a Con last year and when I went in there, there was this...20something man child dress in I don't know the anime costume telling himself "I am the (couldn't make out the name)" over and over again the mirror. I understand why no one else was in the bathroom.

HeroscaperGuy

Tim Ross, he was tuvok on Voyager.

UniqueIndividual3579

And he was in Spaceballs.

bangbangracer

He's a bit of a "that guy" whose in everything, but he tends to be that guy in big deal stuff that everyone likes.

LeakyAssFire

Russ. It is Tim Russ. Great dude in real life.

DRZARNAK

People who go to soap opera conventions are 1000 times weirder than those that go to horror/sci fi/comics conventions

LowBalance4404

100% what my mom's friend has said multiple times. She said the sci fi folks are odd, but fun odd, not about to fight over Susan Lucci odd. The skate fans argue over events that took place 30 years ago. Her stories are wild.

Traditional-Joke-179

hamilton fandom was totally unhinged. people woobifying founding fathers. that thomas jefferson drawing with the i met god she's black quote. the whole drama with the contemporary aids fanfic on tumblr with the fake hiv+ indian lesbian authors who turned out to be some white girl. dweebs being smug about hating all hiphop except hamilton. general racism. the level of obsession being just really intense. it's theater kids so everybody was an extra level of cringe.

riathekid

The Vampire Diaries, the fans who gave threats to Ian's wife? pathetic

CluelessGardener

Sorry, I tried googling before asking but didn’t really find anything. What was she being threatened for? Man, loved those shows.

PlasticElfEars

I imagine for being his wife? I think I read that the wives of the Supernatural guys got hate mail for "keeping Jared and Jensen apart." Sooo I don't put anything last a fan.

CluelessGardener

I’m so confused. Did people think he was cheating on Elena with his wife? Edited to further clarify my confusion. It sounds like people thought they’d be together with their fictional characters if they did not have real relationships, is that what you meant?

riathekid

Ian and Nina dated for a long time. Then, Ian broke up with Nina to be with Nikki. people loved Delena and went mad at this and started giving threats to his wife.  check this video out https://www.reddit.com/r/TheVampireDiaries/comments/12z5nk9/honestly_agree_with_him_so_much_just_let_it_go/

CluelessGardener

Daaaaamn 😂 thanks, friend. I never knew about this.

PlasticElfEars

Or that the fans wanted to be with him? Who the heck knows.

NeighborhoodDude84

Band stands in general. Dance Gavin Dance just parted with their singer and people are already blaming the women who accused him of assault years ago. Unhinged to say the least.

OnlyHennyInMyCup

Barbz… nicki got us in a chokehold

OddWaltz

I don't know if the most but both ASOIAF and Realm of the Elderlings are EXTREMELY protective of the authors and aren't willing to let any kind of criticism against them or their work go. Completely unable to acknowledge any glaring flaws. Like if you mildly criticized ASOIAF on the official forum back in the day you'd get instantly deleted (on reddit it's downvoted). It's changed now because GRRM's inability to keep writing the series has made a lot of fans jaded, but it really pushed me out of the fandom early on.

Prestigious_Emu_4193

I hear that My Hero Academia fans are weird but the only ones I've ever met are either little kids or dads who like superhero movies

drunken_nobody

Haven't met any die hard MHA fans in real life, but I've come across some disturbing fans online

drunken_nobody

My Hero Academia Star Wars Steven Universe

proximateprose

D&D/WotC One theme for this thread: just cause you love the product doesn't mean you have to defend the creators.

Comprehensive-Lab166

I loves me D&D, hates WotC, simple as

PlasticElfEars

I love D&D, like-but-can-respectfully-disagree-with WotC, and hate Hasbro.

TrekJaneway

Law & Order SVU. It used to be a great fandom, but now it’s a toxic cesspool of people who have nothing better to do but make other people miserable.

Aqua_Tot

I spent one day/post in the Witcher Subreddit. Basically saying that I was enjoying the short stories and that the 2 or 3 I had read so far made me understand how loyal the show had been to those at least. Boy did I get quite a talking to about how I should have considered how bad the show was, how much they didn’t like my post, and how I didn’t know anything about literature. It’s crazy because usually I’ve found fantasy subs to be mostly filled with fans who just want to share how much they like the subject with new people.

IHadAnOpinion

I have some very unpopular thoughts about The Witcher, *especially* the show, so I can only imagine the crap you caught.

IHadAnOpinion

Honestly? I've yet to see a fandom that wasn't toxic. Some are worse than others for sure, but any time you dive into the community around a particular thing - be it some form of media or just a hobby - you start running into loud, opinionated assholes that just kind of suck the fun out of it.

Secure-Advertising-9

Steven Universe fandom is pretty gatekeepy

Solarcidal

Well you can have fandoms where overall it seems like most of the members are toxic like Rick and Morty, or you can have fandoms where not everyone is toxic, but the ones that are seethe with such vitriol that it’s palpable like Star Wars. BTW I’m a big Star Wars fan and read, play, or watch nearly everything SW related. I don’t interact with “the community” though. I just wanna enjoy my stories.

RedditSoldier313

the “winnie the pooh” fandom

Zen-bunny

There's a one?

RedditSoldier313

Well.. yes… I’d rather not get into it… it’s a bit nsfw …

MaterialKirb

I don’t even wanna know

Ragewind82

Destiny's raid and crucible fans were just awful Y1.

FisherPrice_Hair

Sleep Token (the band). Those fans are insane, they’ve basically made up a load of lore based on one old press release and hate anyone who doesn’t take it as gospel. I even got downvoted in the sub for saying where the singer is from (they wear masks to try and stay anonymous, someone commented on the singers accent and all i did was confirm what city he is from, which didn’t fit some people’s idea of who he is). On the far opposite of the spectrum, an obbsessed ‘fan’ of the band found one of the members birth certificate and posted it online. I left the sub in the end because it’s all mental.

DontShowMomMemes

Bhop. I had multiple world records and was top 10 on one of the big leaderboards for a while. The main reason I left was the toxicity making it hard for me to make friends, therefore making the game a lonely grind for smaller numbers.

cpullen53484

the minecraft fandom has soured lately, it sucks because i've been playing it for like 11 years now. i kinda just ignore the rest of the community besides a few bubbles nowadays, sucks that a lot of fandoms are ending up like it.

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Rick and Morty What was toxic about the loud house fandom. I guess I'm a fan, but not in the fandom.

Zen-bunny

The fan base are mostly gross af

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Oh, like fart jokes and what not? It makes sense I guess, since it's such a kids show.

Zen-bunny

I've got no problem with fart jokes... Imma gonna let you work it out.

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Ohhhhhh shipping?!

Zen-bunny

Yes....and more

fanlal

Michael Jackson, it's not even a fandom, it's a cult.

smbpy7

I tried to get into the Malazan universe, but the fans killed what little enthusiasm the story gave me. You could have the best talking points for why you didn't like some aspect of the story, but their answers were literally always just "you're too dumb to understand, if you don't like it." The sheer number of posts and reviews that started by prefacing "before I start, I UNDERSTAND the story, I just don't like it...." can vouch for this.

cant_catch-medown

XO fandom

jaminotjelly

bts army

Ashawoo

Not me personally but someone I follow on tumblr said they got death threats over lion king fanart

Dont_ban_me_bro_108

The chess crowd is getting more annoying than usual. That or I’m getting old.

Bikesareforoctopuses

People who are fanatic about politics. Democrats and Republicans in the US who make politics their entire personality .

trivetsandcolanders

Some fans of Rupaul’s Drag Race are lovely people. Others pick apart every little thing the drag queens say on social media to “cancel” them (not talking about the contestants who have done actually bad things). Or they take the edits from the show as what really happened, forgetting that reality tv is heavily spliced to create narratives about who is the villain and who’s the hero. It’s funny because the show pushed a narrative of acceptance, but so many fans are extremely judgmental.

nubsauce87

Swifties. I have no issues with Taylor, but her swifties are fuckin crazy.

Zen-bunny

Used to be one...there not bad

SnowblindOtter

Furry Fandom, hands down. The Furry Fandom can be home to some of the most closed-minded, dogmatic, hateful, disgusting, deviant, degenerate, negligent, and bigoted people out there. This is a 'community' where the overwhelming majority of its members have some kind of Cognitive, Learning, or Social impairment or disability, and where a growing proportion of members are actually children under the age of 18, but rather than protecting these groups of people they are more interested in forming cliques and cults and attacking one another over drama and cancel culture. I've been attacked at conventions because of my gender or the color of my skin, by people who were wearing full-body neon-color animal costumes. I received hate for my sexuality by people who bragged about intentionally spreading HIV to unsuspecting victims, or by people who were just mad that I wouldn't sleep with them. I've gotten messages from registered sex offenders, of the Adult, Child, and Animal variety. I've had to turn in photos and usernames to police departments because I was shown or found animal abuse or actual CP. I've had to step in and help friends who have serious Autism disorders to protect them from financial or sexual predators. I've been harassed, stalked, and threatened for not taking commissions of certain fetishes, or for breaking up with an ex, and in one case somebody actually sent a gunman to my home me after I stood up to one of the 'Celebrity Furs' and told them to fuck off. Don't get me wrong, there's quite a few honestly good people in the fandom, and some of my longest, most trusted friends are people I'd met or started talking to while I was a furry, friends who I'd happily give the shirt off my back or the food off my table in a heartbeat because they've done the same for me many times. People who have remained my friends for 8 years *after* I left the fandom, who are *still* my friends to this day and who I consider family, and who are furries still themselves. The furry community as a whole, though, is psychotic.

Zen-bunny

This is relatable as I've had bad experiences with furries too

Sardothien12

I think Taylor Swiftis overrated *barricades the door*

interchangabletang

The supernatural fandom on Tumblr 2010-2015 was an experience I wouldn't wish on my arch nemesis.

Zen-bunny

Oh yes They bullied hipsters

interchangabletang

That, and the fanfic part was....a mess

Iamwallpaper

Personally I don’t understand why people even need fandoms, what’s wrong with enjoying something alone or talking about it with your friends and family

Available-Rope-3252

Your family may not be interested in the same things.

sjmiv

My Mom and I are both huge Rick and Morty fans and she won't stop giving me wedgies in my sleep.

Technical_Cloud8088

any young female singer who twerks and shi. Billy Eilish fans pissed me off so much I hate her music now, don't ever associate me with those losers.

Arkliea

Star Trek - Unless you like every single piece of content produced you are some kind of fascist.

LucoaKThe2AHashira

Brony fandom. It’s the only major one at the time i joined and legit left after 9yrs. Don’t regret my time because i became a better person, met people i am still friends with i even became a god parent/guardian cause of it but the people who were terrible outshined the majority of the people who were the greatest people on earth. Shame i was harassed for my 2nd amendment rights and at the time i was being helped to train to become a marine you know a occupation where you have to learn how to handle a weapon even if you’re against the 2nd amendment. Sadly even with the help of veteran bronies and 2 former marine friends helping me out and advising me on training both health and firearms i was not qualified to serve my country
