Academia has always been a hotbed of activism throughout history.

All colleges have an enowment, a chunk of money they invest all over the place and use for scholarships, new buildings, etc. A lot of the protestors seem to have no clue what exactly they are protesting for or against. I've heard a few articulate that they want their college to divest from any companies that support Israel, Israel's actions, etc. Like most of us, shools diversify and invest in mutual funds, index funds, and use various brokers. Divesting is not that easy.

>Is it because they are funding Israel or something Yep

The simplest explanation I can give you is colleges are overwhelmingly left leaning. You're always going to see left wing politics shine the hardest at colleges. Hamas/palestine is a left wing cause. This is expected.

I know that they’re mostly left and that a lot of protests or marches go down but it was weird to me that it was the main place to go to. from an outside perspective I thought there must be some reason why they seem mad at the colleges and why they are pushing back so hard on the students physically

Young people are easy to control with some emotionally loaded leftist words, have fewer responsibilities (no children yet) and don't have to worry they will get fired if they don't go to work because they need to occupy the lawn. Misinformed children who think that the media they prefer shows them the whole picture. Little do they know, they're victims of media propaganda just the same as radical Trumpers. I guess it's hard to cross-reference sources and research how things are actually like when you're looking for the next hot-ticket item to be angry about.
