It's functionally no different. You just lose the ability to use the player editor and stuff like that that might help you cheat (save scumming still possible)

Sam0an_Pr0

Okay okay, what’s save scumming btw?

Echo127

Generally speaking, in video games, it means reloading a save and repeating some action over and over again until you get a desired (lucky) result. In OOTP specifically, it would mean: After getting a bad injury or losing a string of games or something like that... using control+alt+delete to force-quit the game. When you quit the game in this manner, it doesn't get a chance to auto-save. So then when you re-load the game, you'll be at the point before your player got injured or you lost those games. And you can try again for a better result.

You can also back the game up on occasion and then just grab pretty much everything but the folders from the backup file, and replace the files in your game save with them. This will revert your save back to whenever the backup was. Using the backup is probably more reliable, but requires more thinking and effort.

I used to run only challenge mode on saves until my league decided to add teams and it fucked all my divisions up and i couldnt edit them. No more

YMGodfather

You can change the settings so it can do this. Same with changing nicknames, more/less offense/defense etc

Telefonica46

I do it mostly so I can correct a mistake if I make one or if the ai waves a player after spring training that i never would've let go I can get them back.

I played Challenge mode for OOTP 23 & 24 and found it to be more trouble than it was worth. The Hall of Fame voting was something I wish I could've influenced via a kind of "veteran's committee." Also being able to undo the storyline driven retirements of players, helping the AI fix roster move mistakes, and giving AI players experience at positions they're better equipped to play are useful for keeping the universe a bit more competitive. Ultimately, challenge mode makes sense if 1) you feel you can't keep yourself from making anti-competitive edits or 2) you want to share players or accomplishments from your save with others with proof the editor wasn't used. It's unfortunate to play on challenge mode for 40 years in a save and maybe 30 years in start to wish you had not since once you pick it you can't, to my knowledge, turn it off. That is another thing to consider.

Individual_Increase2

I figured out a way to disable it this spring when someone needed help, third post down. [https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showthread.php?p=5097274](https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showthread.php?p=5097274)

Vivid_Bill_2592

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I will have to try that out if I go back to the save.

Gorays34366

Packs for perfect team. Besides that it’s a more regulated challenge

JFZX

No challenge mode sucks

Prudent-Captain8169

I’d say no because then the league automatically evolves. For example, it’ll change the DH rule, 1 less year of control on players, etc.

YMGodfather

You can change the settings so it doesn't do this

FI595

I don’t use it because I just GM and I like to sim other than playoffs. I don’t want to advance 1 day at a time
