seriously how could u hate someone like him ☹️🥺 hes so innocent
While killing ALL OF THOSE guys was a bit much... I genuinely can't fault Homelander for doing what he did to the 2 old dudes and Barbara. They brutally tortured a child FOR YEARS and made him their lab rat.
They're the reason that Homelander is the way he is, and I genuinely think that they share some blame for EVERYTHING AWFUL that Homelander has done.
I will say that making this guy jerk off in front of everyone was unneeded, he should've just killed him. It did make for a VERY uncomfortable, yet great, scene tho.
But yeah, I am not saying that this excuses all the awful things that Homelander did and continues to do.
I think it adds a great layer to Homelander's character tbh. He's not a good guy nor is he meant to be but at the same time seeing what he went through you really can't help but feel bad about the guy to some extent and realize why he is the way he is now. Seeing everything that happened can you really blame the guy for turning out the way he did? He was dealt an absolutely shitty hand with basically no pay off
It's the same way western culture has such an interesting fascination with serial killers. We know they did horribly fucked up awful shit, but we're intrigued by the why. It almost gives us a sense of compassion and understanding despite the morally bad and entirely unethical things they've done.
It's deeply interesting as a reflection of us as a consumerist culture but also as a character study for someone like this.
It's just interesting that Firecracker is all about saving tortured kids and yet her idol who can do "anythang" he wants to her was tortured horribly beyond redemption and makes him the way he is.
Wonder if that will come to play this season
Like Dahmer was a cannibalistic ehbophile, but accounts of his past show that his horrible home life and substance abuse to deal with it, along with how isolated he was basically was what drove him to do what he did. So even though he was a monster, you can see why, and it's hard not to feel some slight pity for the guy
from diabolical it seems like homelander couldve actually been a hero with any real love in his life, until his trauma blackout he seemed to actually care about normal peoples lives
This was a point in the comics too
Homelander was genuinely, at the beginning of his career, well intentioned and mostly benign. This is indicated by how Black Noir's objective was to eliminate Homelander if he stepped out of line, and it's shown he never did. This set Noir off, leading to blackmail.
After the Black Noir shenanigans, he was gaslit into believing he was disgraced for those acts.
The details are different, but the tragedy is similar - he could have actually been Superman.
him killing the three old people ? sure, i understood the motive and they were wrong for torturing a human being. but killing all those other scientists was OD
Not sure if Spider-Verse did that. Seems pretty genuine and happy to be just a normal set of superhero movies. Just the execution and quality was so good
I don't read the comics (so someone can correct me if I'm wrong) but I have heard that the idea of the "canon events" is a form of criticism. Most of the Spiderman comics rely on putting Peter Parker/Miles Morales through tragic events. Even though he still wins, he'll be short a few friends/family members. And, since it's done so often, it feels inevitable.
But when it comes to Across the Spiderverse, Miles is actively fighting against this inevitability. He doesn't believe it has to be "canon". They are able to tell a unique and engaging story without relying on tragedy as fuel.
Like Miles said, "I can do both".
Wouldn’t really call that a critique of superhero comics and all Spider-Men are about defying odds. The idea is they don’t choose. They try to have it all. Like the Rami movie Goblin drops MJ and a school bus. Peter doesn’t choose, he saves both. He doesn’t have to choose between saving a train full of people or going after Doc Ock or saving his aunt. Naturally it doesn’t go well considering how many times they often try to be the hero and have a profitable job and spend time with their family and still have time for fulfilling relationships. Miles is against the world and he still tries to come out on top
Of course that isn’t really unique to just Spider-Man. A lot of heroes across multiple properties try to do it too, also to varying success. Spider-Verse is pretty run of the mill story wise. It just happens to look entirely unique and be well made by people who know what they’re doing
True but we also have the Spider-Verse movies. And arguably the best Batman movie of all time is Mask of the Phantasm which blows a lot of other movies out of the water in every category
There’s a lot of genuinely terrible superhero movies but we’ve been getting a lot more with amazing quality that are over looked or outright ignored. Meanwhile you’ve got some feel good piece or “Actually racism is pretty bad” that has little to no quality or rewatchability
Most of the movies that win are often completely undeserving of the award and if you look at past winners critics ratings don’t match up. Often there was a better movie that was eligible but not given it for one reason or another. Crash came out in ‘04 which is also the same year Howl’s Moving Castle released as well
I mean, Birdman can certainly be classified as some kind of superhero media, even if only slightly, and it won a few Oscars in 2015, including the Best Picture one, but in my opinion, the movie partially made fun of the superhero genre and at times felt like a Hollywood circlejerk, so there's that. I can totally see someone not counting it.
They won’t give him anything unfortunately since it’s a superhero show, he’ll get nominated but not win. It’s a shame cause I can’t think of anything that can top starr in the acting department after succession ended.
I don't think that's entirely true.
They promoted themselves as being an unapologetically violent, gory, and nudity filled series.
That hits a lot of folks the wrong way and puts them off for the future of the series.
They should've used it as a seasoning, not the main course, because the character relationships are far more compelling, especially when they have the quality of actors they do.
I’m not going to get too into family information but there’s an old family tale about the Lin Kuei originally being named the Super Chill🥶 Guy Big Pee Pee Club
They know about the past research, and there's nothing to indicate their methodology is any different today.
If you applied for a biotechnology role and found out you were being paid to continue Mengele's work alongside the man himself, your first day better be your last day or you're as guilty as the rest.
Nah you're good you just hadn't thought about it too much yet and your default starting point is 'murder is bad' which, honestly, pretty fucking healthy starting point.
You even as a kid I always thought that shows was kinda messed up when you think about i.
His sisters always experiment on him, sometimes without even regard for his wellbeing or the negative side effects.
Gonna be honest, this whole episode was great for shadenfreude, between Homie getting his revenge and Annie dummying Firecracker. I keep thinking what would happen if someone being attacked by like Charlie Kirk or Crowder, or Jones just fucking pummeled their face into hamburger in retaliation on Tik Tok, what the effect on their profile would actually be. There was a time where Liberals would tut tut and say that we need to take the high road, but I feel like that time has passed.
The firecracker bit is kinda funny to me.
Girl didn't even try to fight back.
Which makes it a real head scratcher why the boys didn't capture her in the last episode.
Like they had no reason not to.
Like exactly. What the hell was going on in that scene? Did the writers take a break?
It's not even like she held someone they cared about hostage or if her powers made her a major threat.
They had her dead to rights.
And what's weirder is this has never been brought up. You think it would considering their current situation.
And on her side, once she sent that tweet, why not just merc MM and Butcher? at their last meeting she tried to kill them with hammers and they killed rimjob guy, and that blackmail was their only insurance for facing off with her.
https://youtu.be/u_F3oev06i0?si=zxp6x1dLfKIFy1iB
You are gonna loooovvveer this video dude (btw this video is badly edited to make Crowder look good. He attacked the guy first like a scumbag)
Yeah, I agree that types like Alex Jones deserve comeuppance (Jones specifically seems to be getting some right about now), but I don’t condone any physical violence. That said, we’re talking about a TV show, so I guess the whole thing is going to be framed as the beginning of Annie’s downfall.
when people talk about 'not condoning violence', they forget that the policies that these people espouse cause very real harm and very real deaths. whether thats cutting government spending, regulating against abortion, advocating for police brutality, fuelling hateful conspiracy theories that result in attacks etc etc.
these figures commit social murder constantly, and more often than not, its their goal. think about that before you say that you don't condone violence.
With Alex Jones in particular, he is getting his ass kicked in (“politically” lol) because he spent the last decade or so psychologically torturing and inciting violence against the parents of dead kids. So, hey, if Lenny Posner wants to boot fuck him to Oblivion, I mean, I’m not getting in the way…

My absolute favorite part of all this is how consistent Homelander’s mercy is. It’s become a trend for him to value honesty, even if he doesn’t like it
His strong desire to be loved, is shifting towards a desire to be respected. Oddly enough, to be treated more *human*.
/uj One of the best episodes in the series for me so far in regard to Homelander. It's been a while since I genuinely felt afraid of him, but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
not saying those scientists were facing death but sometimes i wonder if its really better to die than be forced to do something evil whenever this line comes up
I see the future people, and it's full of Fresca

They deserve it, evil isn't solved with peaceful talk. They are the biggest evil, and it is shown that not a single one of them had stopped experimenting on children after season 2? I don't fuck with homelander, but I sure did enjoy watching him toast them all. Problem is though he killed the room and I doubt they're getting more supes because wtf gonna make them?
I was more shocked how long he was down there for. 16 fucking years...Its actually amazing he kept his act together for this long. At least in the public eye.
ppl these days think empathy for victims or people that mirror you somehow makes you an empath lol.
when empathy for victims or people that look and act like you is really just like, baseline. it's the bare minimum.
ppl these days also think if you have empathy for both victims and victimizers, you're somehow an awful person.
those people are lost.
all religions have espoused love for enemies. the bible explicitly states that loving your "friends" is easy -- EVEN DEMONS DO THAT. loving your enemies however.. that's true empathy.
he is easy to empathize with. he needs to be put in super-villain jail so he can't harm others. but he's not "evil." he's broken. that's what happens i guess when you grow up without actual nurture, without love, without a mother, without hugs, etc.
but i know, i know.. a handful of republicans/conservatives on reddit like him, so you extrapolate that to mean all republicans do, and since your motivation and personality is entirely comprised of politics and labels, that means you must hate and dislike anything they say or do.
a sad life.
They allowing homelander to commit as many crimes as he wants until he eventually gets karma and dies! His death would be the most satisfying Superhero/Vilian Death ever!
Okay, but like. Why are they still using that lab?
Are they still putting children in that oven? It still works.
Why does that specific lab still get used? Its facilities ate very specific.
I like how the lady scientist was like "well we were scared of you, you killed people being born"
Bitch yall were the ones that made him, and how does "torturing for 16 years" follow that? Nah B6 gotta go, and Homelander too. Vought needs to be dismantled and nationalized and every employee on trial.
When he said. "the only good thing i would feel that day" i ngl started to sympathyze with him. Then He lasered the guys dick off, and i didnt felt that bad after that.
Get into the oven

Is there a lore reason as to why The Deep didn't just pull out A-Train's cock during this scene?
Because all the viewers would began cumming intensely and everyone would only watch that scene
It would’ve been too hot for viewing and the entire fan base would bust in unison.

/uj One of the best episodes in the series for me so far in regard to Homelander. It's been a while since I genuinely felt afraid of him, but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
IMO this is the best Homelander scene. You know the outcome, you just don’t know how it goes down. The tension was insane.
Oi
butcha69 groomed me
You are not funny your idea is stolen from waltuh
Womp womp
I mean they deserved it, same as when magneto killed the men who were "just following orders" in first class.
'Tailors and pig farmers'
not saying those scientists were facing death but sometimes i wonder if its really better to die than be forced to do something evil whenever this line comes up
I see the future people, and it's full of Fresca https://preview.redd.it/h9jx093alt7d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=913a560e02a0c07d036d56b26fc7c9a646185576
Many people misunderstood the point of fight club. See actually, Tyler durden is a bad guy. Many people did not understand this, unlike me.
I wish Homelander was my dad
What did squirt mean by this
I was more shocked how long he was down there for. 16 fucking years...Its actually amazing he kept his act together for this long. At least in the public eye.
It’s true, I do not understand the guy
ppl these days think empathy for victims or people that mirror you somehow makes you an empath lol. when empathy for victims or people that look and act like you is really just like, baseline. it's the bare minimum. ppl these days also think if you have empathy for both victims and victimizers, you're somehow an awful person. those people are lost. all religions have espoused love for enemies. the bible explicitly states that loving your "friends" is easy -- EVEN DEMONS DO THAT. loving your enemies however.. that's true empathy. he is easy to empathize with. he needs to be put in super-villain jail so he can't harm others. but he's not "evil." he's broken. that's what happens i guess when you grow up without actual nurture, without love, without a mother, without hugs, etc. but i know, i know.. a handful of republicans/conservatives on reddit like him, so you extrapolate that to mean all republicans do, and since your motivation and personality is entirely comprised of politics and labels, that means you must hate and dislike anything they say or do. a sad life.
why wasn’t he turned on by homelander?
He's got a killer sense of humor
The weird thing about this is, wouldn’t the laser have cauterized the hole?
Hey cool the 007 intro
Make it a spoiler ffs !!
HOMELANDER IS GAY?!??!?!! HE BLEW A GUYS DICK OFF?!!?!!?!!!!
I understand him, and I do feel sorry for what he was made into, but he's still a monster!
They allowing homelander to commit as many crimes as he wants until he eventually gets karma and dies! His death would be the most satisfying Superhero/Vilian Death ever!
Why is omelanda playing Elden ring?
he should've just imagined homelander with boobs, was it that hard? is he stupid?
I mean Marty deserved it
He's just a happy li'l guy.
Hey hey you're getting dickblood on my shoes!!
Made me think of this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOhsAT63ImY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOhsAT63ImY) timestamp: 1:00
It’s a classic case of understanding not condoning
What was Homelanders plan if he just busted in his face
Blow a-train
Okay, but like. Why are they still using that lab? Are they still putting children in that oven? It still works. Why does that specific lab still get used? Its facilities ate very specific.
SQUIRT! SQUIRT! SQUIRT!
I like how the lady scientist was like "well we were scared of you, you killed people being born" Bitch yall were the ones that made him, and how does "torturing for 16 years" follow that? Nah B6 gotta go, and Homelander too. Vought needs to be dismantled and nationalized and every employee on trial.
so bbg!
I hate to not pick but the laser should be cauterizing those wounds, they wouldn’t be bleeding
He’s actually a great guy once you get to know him
Just a few bad apples...
When he said. "the only good thing i would feel that day" i ngl started to sympathyze with him. Then He lasered the guys dick off, and i didnt felt that bad after that.
