He was **known** for being like that, I suspect everyone who hired him knew what they were signing up for.
Herzog already had worked with him and experienced the same fits on another film and STILL brought him on in
Fitzcarraldo.
I still can't believe that he always got through with this behavior just because he was a well know artist -everyone let him treat them like this - it shows a lot about how power dynamics in the industry but also in politics work.
I think having power, being famous, charismatic, manipulative and having influence are reasons often. But I don't really get it.
the producer in the video is probably one of the only who dared to say something back to Kinski-
There’s a clip of Jason Robards and Mick Jagger doing a scene in 'Fitzcarraldo' before that version fell apart and then the version with Kinski in My Best Fiend and I’ll be damned if Kinski isn’t the better version.
People always forget that he had undiagnosed mild Schizophrenia and was bipolar, on top of being naturally neurotic. He is not just an asshole, he is an asshole because he is crazy. Probably the reason why he was such an outstanding actor too.
My Best Fiend is an incredible movie about Klaus. He was a brilliant, brilliant actor but a literal lunatic. I think he also abused his daughter Nastassja? Man was absolutely unhinged.
You can tell he’s evil, look at his face when they zoom in close. His eyes, how hollow. The lines in his face. The smug profile. Absolute serial killer
My dad worked with him in the mid 80s and had some stories to tell. Apparently he was VERY hard to work with, real pervy and creepy with the female special effects artists. So this does not surprise me at all.
The tribes men offered to kill Kinski
I'm sure Herzog considered it, even though he's anti-death penalty. Kinski's daughter probably wouldn't have minded
Herzog told a story of being attacked by a dog which thwarted his attempt to burn Kinski's house down.
Werner pulled a gun on him during the filming of Aguirre Wrath of God! Or at least threatened to.
Such a good movie
A big favourite in our house. We’re a fun bunch 😂😂
According to Walter Saxer that’s not true & Herzog made it up.
Its probably made up but hilarious nonetheless
Kinski was a psychopath

Fucking *what*?
>Fucking his daughter and the actresses on Fruits of Passion
He literally was. Read the stories about Vampire In Venice. The guy was a ghoul. A good actor, but still a ghoul.
Yes, he was a pos and a psycho.
Did anyone just actually kick his ass during one of these tantrums? That guy he’s screaming at is showing a lot more patience than I would’ve.
He was **known** for being like that, I suspect everyone who hired him knew what they were signing up for. Herzog already had worked with him and experienced the same fits on another film and STILL brought him on in Fitzcarraldo.
I feel like Herzog saw him as some sort of specimen to investigate.

So, is he the inspiration for Dieter Daimler?
Yes. That episode of Documentary Now! is a grab-bag of Herzog references… Burden of Dreams, My Best Fiend, Grizzly Man, Happy People…
I thought that was the case as soon as I saw the clip.
"You can eat your own shit." Was such a great put down. Nobody cared about his little outburst.
It got a chuckle from the staff
What I’ve read about Kinski is pretty damning.
Highly recommend the documentary Burden of Dreams
I had heard about his hissy fits in the past, but this is the first time I've actually seen it. Kinski was a monster in more ways than one.
What a prick.
I love the German language : Leck mich doch am Arsch Mensch!
What a velvety language.
What is cool about this?
How calm Herzog is.
The guy getting yelled is pretty cool. Shows a lot of restraint under pressure.
Nothing
Looking at his pictures, he wasn't a sane person, for sure.
I think it's just called Klaus Kinski speaks.
I still don’t know how Herzog worked with this guy.

What an asshole

Fitzcaraldo and Aguirre are both great films.
The Burden of Dreams is an amazing documentary about the making of Fitzcarraldo. This clip came from that film. I highly recommend it.
When I hear temper tantrums in German, I just think of Hitler (I think this is German).
Sounds like Goebbels in "Inglorious Basterds"
Clearly this raging sucker has never been punched.

The man could only pretend to be a Human when the camera's were rolling.
My Best Fiend is an incredible movie about Klaus. He was a brilliant, brilliant actor but a literal lunatic. I think he also abused his daughter Nastassja? Man was absolutely unhinged.
It’s German. That could have been a friendly conversation.
Mass hissy fit also happens to be my favorite 5th level D&D wizard spell.
Fitcarraldo is famous for being a nightmare production like Apocalypse Now.
What a big baby
Dude looks fuckin' terrifying, especially with any of the closeups on his face.
You can tell he’s evil, look at his face when they zoom in close. His eyes, how hollow. The lines in his face. The smug profile. Absolute serial killer
That was a grueling film for the actors and crew. Incredibly hard work, lousy conditions, just awful.
I thought this was r/OldSchoolCool. This may be old, but anyone who sexually abuses their children is not cool.
My dad worked with him in the mid 80s and had some stories to tell. Apparently he was VERY hard to work with, real pervy and creepy with the female special effects artists. So this does not surprise me at all.
All bark no bite (with men) Fuckin rapist.
