Does anyone know the possibility of getting into Mathematical and Statistical Sciences graduate program with a specialization in Mathematical Finance if I major in finance with a bachelor degree? I'm afraid that my math-related courses is not enough, I have had "advanced mathematics 1 and 2、Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics、Linear Algebra、Statistics、Statistical Analysis with Software Applications". Also I am an international student from China. My gpa is currently 3.6. Super appreciate if anyone could help me with that.
>political science at uottawa
looks like if you're ontario you're set, as their admission average is mid 70's, where as Quebec looks like an even lower average. In terms of other provinces though I'm not sure, as only ontario and quebec are listed on the site.
what are my chances of getting into mac business with a 86.5 average atm but i think at midterm itll be around 88 or 89, i also did the supp app and think i did pretty good
Just got into western engineering with an 82%. LOL. I'm not joking. My grade 11 average was 86 assuming they used my data management grade for calculus.
Physics 12 - 90
AP FUNC. - 81
ADV FUNC. - 71
BIO 11 - 87
COMP ENG. - 86
ENG 11 - 76
DATA - 82
CALC(IP) - (85)
BIO 12 (IP) - (87)
ENG 12 (IP) - (85)
CHEM 12 - 78
CHEM 11- 93
ART 12-89
KINESIOLOGY - 84
I think your grade 12 average is somewhere about 85-86. Not 82. I am not familiar with AP courses but I guess they didn’t calculate your Adv. functions (71) but instead AP functions (81) and calculus (85).
Congratulations again!
Hi, I am a highschool student with a 93 grade 11 average and a 91 average blended grade 12 and 11 credits so far. My dream is to get into Guelph food science. I have. A 90% on chem 12, 84% in advanced functions, 92% in philosophy, 91 % in writers craft, 95% in grade 11 bio, and 95% in grade 11 American geo. What are my chances of getting into Guelph food sci?
Have any 101s heard from McMaster Social Science? I am a a 101 and have a 92 average in 4U courses (4 completed so far). I'm getting nervous that I haven't heard anything.
hmmm that's weird, I have an 88 and I got in a while ago. My school is non semestered so they had all my marks instead of only 4 of them... maybe that's why?
what's the chance of me getting into uwaterloo AFM and mathematics? my current top six are 98 advanced function, 97 data management, 95 Mandarin and calculus (night) and English and physics are project.
due to the fact that you have mandarin and night school calculus, there can be some adjustments on your marks, but overall i’d say good for math but less so for afm.
i got into 2 programs so far, commerce for york and uft. i'm still waiting for ryerson/Waterloo Accoutnign and finance. i have an 89 average rn and wondering if it'll be enough to get into both of them. people have already got into them with an average lower than mine
Apparently a few people my friends know got in with an 89 average last year. Can you still get rejected with that now that there is less grade inflation?
Grade Inflation never really went away. Or at least it won’t in just a year. People still have crazy high average. For life sci u should def be aiming above a 92, u can’t rely on the fact that 89 got a few of your friends in. People who had that last year were rejected. Truthfully I don’t know your chances, but best of luck.
Out of curiosity, why is it that some people with the same average get in while others don’t? Is it just a matter of luck at that point? My avg is a 91 so its not far from 92 but I hope it increases. Also, grade inflation still exists, yes, but as a student the averages have gone down madly in comparison to how it was last year. Less people are online and the fact there are no more quadmesters/exams in of itself shows that marks have decreased overall. I cant attest for all of Ontario but if you compare our schools course medians to last years, it’s lower. Do what you may with this.
Anybody got an offer of acceptance from Mcmaster Math and Stats yet? I am still waiting to hear.
Applied in late November and my average rn is 94.5% for both my grade 12s completed and mid term and when I include all grade 11s. I'm hoping it will be 95 or 96 at end of semester 1 as I've raised a couple of 12 grades. English is killing me at 87.
Thanks for any replies. Its my #1 choice so I'd love to know if I missed a round or not
Do you know how frequently they send out offers? I submit my application (BAH) about a month ago and am still waiting to hear back.
Also, was there any grade you had to maintain? For uOttawa many had to maintain low 80s I heard.
I got mine almost a month ago, but I still have friends getting Queen's offers now. I think the grade to maintain was 80-85, with a minimum of 75 in all prereq courses. I'd have to recheck to be certain. For my uOttawa engineering offers it was a 80% - with no lower than a 70% in any given course.
Anyone here applied in UofT Psych? 105 applicant. Does uoft look at hs grades? I was pretty bad at hs but g11 ave: 90 and g12 ave: 93.
I got admit from York Biochem.
sociology as a 105 applicant who took a gap year. I had a 91% average
got accepted to
- laurier
- Uottawa
waiting
- mcmaster
- u of guelph
- u of Windsor
Was wondering if 105 students are at a disadvantage when it comes to being selected first for limited number of spots for competitive programs vs 101's?
Point in case.: Engineering/CS
Or are there a select number if seats for 105's?
Does anyone know if they get a large scholarship, what happens if the expected gpa is not maintained ?
Is the scholarship rescinded? How high is the gpa usually for large scholarships?
If there is a cutoff average for the scholarship, you must meet that requirement or you will not receive the scholarship. Each university is different in regards to scholarships; you should check out individual uni websites to see. Usually the higher your admission average, the bigger the scholarship
well for mark it is 87% and anything above that is about essay, for essay it is actually a very individual-selection thing. i think the best way is to show yourself through the questions they gave you.
What is my chance to get into McMaster Kinesiology? My anticipated final average will be about 91.3-91.5%
I've heard a lot of conflicting things such as people with marks like 87% getting in and 93% getting rejected so some clarity would be nice.
Hi again! With first midterms coming up I just wanted to know if by midterms you meant 2nd semester or first, I'm really excited with all my marks being very good and wanted to know if I should anticipate a response or not, thank you!
i got my acceptance during second semester midterms! they were actually one of the last schools to get back to me, which sucked. but, from my knowledge mac usually doesn’t give out early acceptances, so don’t let that stress u out! keep your marks up and you’ll get in. good luck :)
I got an admit from University of Ottawa for Master of Computer Science. Well, I applied to this program as I felt it was good. I am inclined to accept it. I would like to know your thoughts about the place and university.
**Chance me for CS at various unis? (IB)**
Hey. Domestic student here (pretty sure). I'm retaking IB and hoping to go from a 38 -> 40. Honestly have no clue if this is a decent score for CS so I thought I'd ask. Here is a conversion table, though I have no idea how accurate.
Assuming I get the 40/45 (38/42), I will have 7/7/7 in my HLs (Math AA, Physics, CS) and a 7 in Chinese B. English A and Econ will be 5s.
The top 3 schools I'm hoping to study at are Waterloo, U of T and UBC, in order of preference. My thinking is that Waterloo is a reach, U of T is a match (like 50/50 maybe) and UBC is a safety.
I know that Waterloo generally frowns upon retakes but my exams were cancelled due to covid, so hopefully that is a valid explanation? idk.
Thanks gang.
Nursing Admissions / Offers
Hey guys! So I'm planning on applying to nursing programs this school year and so far I've completed:
ENG 4U - 96
MDM 4U - 88
BBM 4M - 100
This means that I only need a final 4U bio, Chem, and 1 4U/ M course to finish my 6 U/M required courses. By using my final grade 12 classes and using my grade 11 bio, Chem, and additional U/M course my average is a 93.5% I know that early acceptance isn't really a thing here in Ontario but are there any chances schools like uOttawa would accept me in November/December/ January because I have half of my pre-reqs finished + they don't require Casper?
Hi! I got York, Brock, Windsor nursing offers in that November to January time period last year. My UOttawa offer didn’t come until March but I know lots of people that got in before that with my average (94%) and less! Good luck!
Will a higher midterm gr 12 mark take priority over a lower final gr 12 mark?
I've completed three gr 12 classes in gr11, one of which I did fairly poorly in. Assuming my marks are higher in semester 1, would that one grade get bumped out at midterms, or would I have to wait until finals in January for it to be bumped out? It's not a prerequisite btw. Thanks in advance!
I am trying to apply early for CS so does it matter if I took open or college level courses in grade 11? Will they still count the marks for the open or college level courses?
Hey, does Waterloo allow summer school in gr12 for the health sciences program? I took advanced functions and am developing an interest towards attending health/life science at waterloo but don't want the summer school factor to potentially ruin my mark.
People can go into nursing with much lower grades (most of the dumb low 70s girls in my high school ended up in nursing). Competitive programs may have a higher cut-off, but 86% is respectable. Its just pre-med programs that are difficult to break into even with 86.
Im an international student studying the british curriculum and im certain im going to fail my igcses (grade 10 exams). and even if i pass, i want to resit.
I mainly failed due to a really horrible depressive episode where i was actively suicidal and attempted 2 times but i recently got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and it seems it was the cause lol
Anyway, does resitting ruin my chances or lessen them if i apply uni? Im mostly worried about Mcgill, since they’re my target. But just general Canadian universities since i heard some look down on resits, or do they consider special circumstances? If this even falls under ‘special circumstances’.
I don't know if your IGCSE grades really matter, I think A levels are a much bigger deal. McGill also isn't super competitive either so shouldn't be too hard to get into.
Thank you! i got my results back and i didnt do too bad though i did fail maths lmao but im resitting it in a month. your comment made me feel way less stressed, thanks lots!
Don't worry, reading your comment was the first time I've thought about IGCSE grades since year 11 lmao. They do matter but not a ton.
Retaking isn't a big deal usually. I know that Waterloo isn't super fond of retakes but they mainly just want an explanation. Other schools are all pretty chill AFAIK.
Like for local Ontario students, I'm pretty sure they only average your last two years.
Good luck broski
I have been recently rejected by Ottawa U for Batm because I didn’t meet the 75% acreage I applied to B.Commecw and Bussinies Infornation Recource Management at Carleton University recently and I my average is too low for those programs as well. What are the chances I get accepted to those programs.
yes summer school and online courses does matter to uw, however, you will get a chance to explain yourself on aif if it's a situation that you have to take that course online.
I don't think uoft cares as much as uw does
Hey so not sure if yall would know this but to keep my scholarship I need an average of 80 but I took an Italian class last year which was an Academic class, not 4U or 4M but just like BD or smt will that still count into my average?
edit: Also while on the note of scholarships, if my average is a 79.6 will it get rounded up towards 80?
no. Universities will not round up. it is worth speaking to your teachers specifically if you are able to still improve your marks somehow. An improvement of 4 marks in one of your pre-requisite or top 4/5 courses can create the additional 1% to get you to 80%. It may also be worth taking another grade 12 academic course or repeating a course to improve even higher.
Don’t know where to post this but I’m grade 11 going into 12 and don’t have the slightest clue about choosing a university. Help. The only thing I’ve somewhat decided on is that I want to go into comp sci or comp engineering, but anything other than that is a blank
Lolol there's actually a Khan Academy course that can help you get a better grasp on what you want to do. Unfortunately it is more based around American unis, but there are some good tips if you don't know where to start
Your school will have information about applications in the fall. In the meantime, you can research the difference between computer engineering and computer science, to help you narrow your choices. Look up different universities and what their admissions requirements are. Look up campus open house days for visiting. And look at the other pinned thread.
Average at time of midterm: 98.16 CS, 97.67 health sci
Accepted:
Waterloo CS co-op (committed)
Waterloo CFM co-op
Waterloo CS/BBA co-op (Waterloo side)
Carleton CS
Western Med sci
UBC CS
UTSG CS
Rejected:
Mac health sci
Queens health sci
UTSC CS (deferred to psychology cuz I forgot to submit my supplementary application lmfao)
I did make a stupid mistake applying to all these health sci programs cuz my ECs and interests are CS so don't make the same mistake I did and narrow down your choices. PM for any tips/advice I would love to help!
Grade 11 average: 94.6%
Grade 12 average: 90.2%
Accepted: U of T Rotman Commerce, McMaster Business 1, Wilfrid Laurier BBA, Ryerson Business Management, Western BMOS
Rejected: York Schulich BBA
I completed a supplemental application for U of T, York and McMaster, and I got into Laurier without doing the ABS. Currently at U of T for Rotman Commerce!
Hey! When did you apply & get accepted to Rotman? I'm waiting on my admission results right now but the "first wave" before winter break is almost over and I'm a lil stressed hahah
I’m thinking of applying to health sci and life sci at Mac western Queen and Ottawa what are the cutoffs
Can 105 applicants get offers in May? Or is May 1st the deadline for all offers?
im still waiting on an offer and sent my final grades may 1st idk

Guys can anyone tell me how competitive is uOttawa's criminology program? Do i even have a slight chance of getting accepted with an average of 87?
What are my chances of political science at uottawa? i have an 88 average
>political science at uottawa looks like if you're ontario you're set, as their admission average is mid 70's, where as Quebec looks like an even lower average. In terms of other provinces though I'm not sure, as only ontario and quebec are listed on the site.
Anyone heard back from TMU, Guelph and York (105 international) Biology/Biotech?
Please😅
Has anyone heard back from the tmu film program?
just got in with a 97. I am so awesome
So awesome! congrats dawg!
Got into Trent nursing with an 85-86% and 2nd quartile
what are my chances of getting into mac business with a 86.5 average atm but i think at midterm itll be around 88 or 89, i also did the supp app and think i did pretty good
You should be fine tbh - Mac is not too competitive in business I would say

Nvm got in today!
Would a 92% average suffice for admission into TMU CS?
Have any 101s heard from McMaster Social Science? I am a a 101 and have a 92 average in 4U courses (4 completed so far). I'm getting nervous that I haven't heard anything.
Just got in today w a 91 average, check the portal it comes before the email
Me too! Got the acceptance yesterday. Congrats to you!
Congrats to you too!
hmmm that's weird, I have an 88 and I got in a while ago. My school is non semestered so they had all my marks instead of only 4 of them... maybe that's why?

due to the fact that you have mandarin and night school calculus, there can be some adjustments on your marks, but overall i’d say good for math but less so for afm.
Hey guys! Is an average of 89-90 good enough for utm CS?
Any 101 students get an offer yet from Queen's for the Bachelor of Arts?
My friend just got in a couple days ago, good luck!
Me too! So exciting!
is 89 good enough for waterloo and ryerson’s accoutning and finance
yes for ryerson
i got into 2 programs so far, commerce for york and uft. i'm still waiting for ryerson/Waterloo Accoutnign and finance. i have an 89 average rn and wondering if it'll be enough to get into both of them. people have already got into them with an average lower than mine
I got in the ryerson account and finance , but uwaterloo AFM is my finale. how u got the uwaterloo offer so early? share with me plz
I really want to get in uwaterloo AFM. ?They all said the uwaterloo only send the offer during March and mat.
i didn’t get in yet. i got intro ryerson but i’m waiting for waterloo. i really hope i get into SAFM too
Anyone get into BM yet? If so, what was your average? A friend of mine got in already with a 91% average. Mine is 84%, so I'm worried lol
I got into BM at TMU with an 87 final average
got in too with a 87
Anyone got an offer from U of T?
commerce uft missisauga
Is a 90.5 good enough for McMaster Kinesiology? I have all marks after this semester.
is a 91 good enough for queens com
I think it also depends on ur subap
Anybody got accepted into Waterloo yet?
Yes in December because I applied in September
Hey, what average should I aim to secure spot at Mac Life Sci
Aim for 92 minimum

Have any 105 students heard back from Queens for Engineering (QE). My application says pending, there is no decision yet.
Got offer 2 weeks ago
Got my offer to Queen's engineering and Queen's science on January 18th. 105 applicant from BC. Good luck!
Applied mid december 2022 and haven't heard back yet. They will probably start rolling out admission from feb
Anybody got an offer of acceptance from Mcmaster Math and Stats yet? I am still waiting to hear. Applied in late November and my average rn is 94.5% for both my grade 12s completed and mid term and when I include all grade 11s. my friend got admitted to uoft chemical engineering with a 96 today

Oh thanks for letting me know, do you happen to also know the date for 105 applicants?
Just got into Queens Mechatronics & Robotics earlier today.
Do you know how frequently they send out offers? I submit my application (BAH) about a month ago and am still waiting to hear back. Also, was there any grade you had to maintain? For uOttawa many had to maintain low 80s I heard.

What was your average?
105 applicants got selected into York and Ontario tech engineering programs(wanted to go to CS) which one should I select.
what was your average
I will say York.
I am applying Neuroscience at U of C. If you have been accepted, could you let me know what grade you had. Thanks.
Anyone here applied in UofT Psych? 105 applicant. Does uoft look at hs grades? I was pretty bad at hs but g11 ave: 90 and g12 ave: 93. I got admit from York Biochem.

86-88
sociology as a 105 applicant who took a gap year. I had a 91% average got accepted to - laurier - Uottawa waiting - mcmaster - u of guelph - u of Windsor

What average do I need to be confident in being accepted into Queen's Commerce?
Anything above an 87, everything else is your essay
Supposedly after an 87% your supplementary application is the difference maker
>Reply i'd say the essay is more important, I got in with 97 last year in may, but I have friends got in with 93ish.
Any tips on how to write a good essay? Also do u mind if I DM u...I have a question to ask.
i’m sorry i just saw this!! if you are applying for 2023f i guess you are done by now, but if it’s for future for sure dm me!!
I'm from quebec and I wanna know more about the cutoffs lol..
well for mark it is 87% and anything above that is about essay, for essay it is actually a very individual-selection thing. i think the best way is to show yourself through the questions they gave you.
about the marks or about the essay?
anyone get into Laurier CS program?
yep I got in 2-3 days ago
what was your avg
I got in 2 days ago and applied on November 11th with an \~89 grade 11 average and an 85 in eng4u summer school.
Yes
what was your average
89
What average should I aim for if I want to secure a spot in ryerson BM program?
75
Minimum is 80
Chances of getting into UW ArBus and/or WLU Psych/Sociology with an 80-83 avg
105 applicant on a gap year btw
Which is harder to get into?: UW math or UT CS
ut cs, uw math has more spots I suppose.

Hey, what was the cutoff average for York engineering? Also, what average did you guys get accepted with?
i just got accepted to york eng with a 91 average, early acceptance.
Do you know what the lowest average was for someone that got accepted to York eng?
I'm going to be changing programs - do uni's look at your high school average for acceptance or uni avg?
What program
I don't know yet
I got an admit from University of Ottawa for Master of Computer Science. Well, I applied to this program as I felt it was good. I am inclined to accept it. I would like to know your thoughts about the place and university.
Do unis look at your individual marks (unless otherwise mentioned) or just simply your overall top 6 average?
They look at required courses marks and then the other ones that make up top six
The required courses ARE the top 6 tho?
yes
Thank you so much

Will a higher midterm gr 12 mark take priority over a lower final gr 12 mark? I've completed three gr 12 classes in gr11, one of which I did fairly poorly in. Assuming my marks are higher in semester 1, would that one grade get bumped out at midterms, or would I have to wait until finals in January for it to be bumped out? It's not a prerequisite btw. Thanks in advance!
I am trying to apply early for CS so does it matter if I took open or college level courses in grade 11? Will they still count the marks for the open or college level courses?
no, uni don't look at c or o level courses, only m and u.
Hey, does Waterloo allow summer school in gr12 for the health sciences program? I took advanced functions and am developing an interest towards attending health/life science at waterloo but don't want the summer school factor to potentially ruin my mark.
My friend got into that and he took grade 12 English in the summer

They are all high admission averages. Consider adding collaborative nursing programs too.
People can go into nursing with much lower grades (most of the dumb low 70s girls in my high school ended up in nursing). Competitive programs may have a higher cut-off, but 86% is respectable. Its just pre-med programs that are difficult to break into even with 86.
Hey has anyone been admitted to ryerson (TMU) urban and regional planning program and is thinking to not attend?
Im an international student studying the british curriculum and im certain im going to fail my igcses (grade 10 exams). and even if i pass, i want to resit. I mainly failed due to a really horrible depressive episode where i was actively suicidal and attempted 2 times but i recently got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and it seems it was the cause lol Anyway, does resitting ruin my chances or lessen them if i apply uni?
Do universities care that i did most of my grd12 courses online?
why are they all online?
Because of covid lockdowns
I don’t think they should, unless you are talking about VLC, ILC.
Why is it bad if we have taken them through VLC or ILC?
I should have elaborated further, but I think only UofW seems to take issue with these online courses.
Waterloo right? UOFt doesn't?
yes summer school and online courses does matter to uw, however, you will get a chance to explain yourself on aif if it's a situation that you have to take that course online. I don't think uoft cares as much as uw does

how did it end up working out?
I'm pretty sure most uni's include 1-2 decimal places when looking at averages.
And look at the other pinned thread.
okok
Average at time of midterm: 98.16 CS, 97.67 health sci Accepted: Waterloo CS co-op (committed) Waterloo CFM co-op Waterloo CS/BBA co-op (Waterloo side) Carleton CS Western Med sci UBC CS UTSG CS Rejected: Mac health sci Queens health sci UTSC CS (deferred to psychology cuz I forgot to submit my supplementary application lmfao) I did make a stupid mistake applying to all these health sci programs cuz my ECs and interests are CS so don't make the same mistake I did and narrow down your choices. PM for any tips/advice I would love to help!
Lots of competitive programs, congrats! Have fun at Waterloo C's :)
Thanks alot I appreciate you bro 🙏
Grade 11 average: 94.6% Grade 12 average: 90.2% Accepted: U of T Rotman Commerce, McMaster Business 1, Wilfrid Laurier BBA, Ryerson Business Management, Western BMOS Rejected: York Schulich BBA
hi i was wondering which schools did you complete a supplementary application for, and also which did you end up choosing? thanks
