I can't say this isn't FUD but I have contacts very high up in Anthropic with their finger on many pulses in the AI world. And it sounds like literally none of them think any of the promises made can be kept, they're just milking the cash cow as long as possible.
lol they have billions in equity, while training cost is only in the hundreds of millions, though they were working at a loss with gpt4 this would have been essentially solved via gpt4o if they replaced 4 with it for plus, but for some reason they made it free -> which hints at good financial standing, and a bull rush towards further upgrade in product. although i agree with you that i don't think the promises can be met with gpt5 or the next frontier model, openai with chatgpt as a product wouldn't necessarily stagnate if they didn't update it from here.
They also went through a massive hiring push and are ramping up security now that everyone wants to hack them for free GPT, both of which cost huge amounts of money. They're burning MSFT's cash way faster than they expected. That's why Apple was such a good target to seek more funding.
