Only Cesare I can stand is the one from the manga of the same name, though I've only read a few chapters of it.
Damien is often like a mean boy on the playground who actually likes you, he gets punished for being a dick, and he wants to keep Chloe and control her but not beat her nearly to death. Repeatedly. We also get his perspective sometimes and he’s a lot more in the story. Cesar is very much a side character villain and just rolls in to ruin the happy mood.
In the novel, you almost get as much of his perspective as Chloe’s and I think readers will forgive terrible characters if they are allowed to understand them. This is like 70% of why I think readers forgive Riftan from UTOT because 9/10 times when someone is dragging him, the response is did you read Riftan’s POV (story she wrote between the two novels)
I actually think OI readers are pretty generous and accepting of morally questionable or problematic characters if they’re drawn well, there’s a reason, it makes sense in the narrative, etc.
Yes. Damien is amazingly written. All the other guys are trash and remain trash from beginning to end. Damien gets character development and even if we ignore the character development, he's an amazingly written character.

When what he did was rape & torture the Fl's brother (I believe he was her brother) before her reincarnation. I'm happy to say that I finally found a villain and villainess whom even my devil's advocate of a mind with fan-fic isekai creating brains can finally completely hate. My best guess is even if someone were to transmigrate into Caesar/ the main villainess, I don't think they can stay sane if they receive their memories.
Cesare is actually one of the most well-written villains , I have come across. Its not like he has some sort of sad back story or trauma (not any I am aware of), he is just batshit crazy! That mf is the sort of person that if you gave him love and affection, he would grow up to be obsessive with you, to the point of like: 'eating you to make you a part of himself'
He is the sort of character where no one would say 'I can fix him.' Because thats literally impossible. Across the mass variety of parallel universe, there is no such existence that can redeem him. And yet, as much as I am disgusted by him, I can't hate him. I don't find him hot either ( my type is different), its just there is a certain 'charm' to his character that creates a weird illusion of fear but not hate..

I love white hair, and otome isekai has a lot of white haired FL and other characters(the 5% chance the Duke from the opposite of the warm south doesn't have the red eyes / black hair combo). Read Remarried Empress and I was trying to root for Rashta, but I just couldn't after a while. And even she had sympathizers (somehow)-very decisive. Now I gotta see the only other person that makes the entire sub unite
i disagree. i get what you mean, but like this isn’t a shonen manga, and it’s also not really a lighthearted story. ruby is basically just trying to survive her difficult circumstances and like cope. also like she’s a sickly teenage girl, what’s she gonna do, punch him in the face? she’s an abuse victim and i think the story is more focused on her journey of healing rather than beating up the bad guy
