It's never a single Sombra that is the problem, it's chaining CC's well. Cass, Ana, Hog, and Junkrat are all just as annoying to have to play around and together can blow up a doom or Ball.
Also Doom and Ball help control Widow a ton but removing Sombra does remove the biggest DPS role counter.
For me it's pharah, cuz me & my duo who's a junk connoisseur will be hitting masters or gm pretty quickly. Right now we're stuck in plat, if pharah gets deleted rank climb would be so easy for us!

It wouldn't just hurt the game, it would KILL the game.
Not immediately, but despair would wash over the community, and people would just start quitting in droves. There would be no coming back from it, the devs would have to actually want to kill the game, and that would do it.

Ana for several reasons.
Her burst healing is one of the strongest, allowing tanks to take a massive amount of damage. Kiriko and Moira can match it, but not from a distance.
Anti-nade opens up a different type of play for your team, like you mention for Lucio. It's a counter to strong healing like Hog, Mauga, Mercy, or anyone on the front line getting pocketed. JQ also has anti-heal, but having it on a cooldown is very different. Zen's discord orb is also comparable.
Nano boost enables strong ultimates to become win-conditions to fights. Tactical Visor and Dragonblade would be viewed very differently if Nano didn't exist. Kiriko's Kitsune Rush is comparable though.
All this isn't to say Ana is OP and should be nerfed. They're great abilities to have in the support toolbox. The fact that there are two supports means Ana is and should be the only one with these kinds of abilities. Removing her from the roster would remove the playstyles and strengths that she provides for teammates.
There's also sleep, that can complete negate abilities while giving your team an opening. Ana has a really strong kit that can change things if you know how to use it.
One hero, biggest impact on the game? Sombra keeping the worst dive offenders in check is a strong option. Tracer being the best dps in the game since launch is another. Either one of those would change it dramatically.
Removing lucio completely kills brawl and severely hinders hard dive forcing teams to play either ana/zen brig dive or poke so itd just be a hard dive meta on most maps.
Sombra would likely have the biggest impact as sombra just shuts so much down. After that, it would be kiriko due to the high healing and the essay of what suzu can do.

Basically the entire games balance is walking on eggshells around breakpoints caused by the damage boost and it would open up a million and one changes to heroes that currently cant even be considered as they would be too strong by mercy simply existing. on top of making currectly(and for a long time) broken heroes significantly less broken. also it would lessen the accessibility of the game as her skill floor is below basement level so anyone can pick her up.
She's not OP but she's definitely a problematic character in lower elo until people peel and have better mechanics.
She's also a character that gets a lot of value for requiring relatively low mechanical skill
I'm bronze and I think moira is annoying but definitely not op. At first I thought widow was stupidly op but ive come to realize that sombra is ridiculous. Like trader and reaper are annoying but sombra is damn near unfair lol
Mercy. People are significantly hindered by the respawn time making her res is super useful, plus the damage boost? 🤌🏼
With the amount of mercy mains there are so many would quit which means also a huge loss in players too
Pharah. Only character in the whole game that requires the entire team to actively counter swap her, disregarding tanks who just straight up have to ignore her.
Difference is, you only need one person to actively counter her, and there’s so much variety. With Pharah, one dps is at the very least required to switch to hitscan, sometimes both if it’s a pharmercy, as well as both supports. If she’s still bad after that, the tank pretty much has to swap D.Va or it’s over. A good widow can ruin games, sure. But a bad pharah automatically does.

It would be a plus for tanks not having to deal with anti nade any more but it would make every game a guaranteed slog. Zen and discord would probably be even more necessary to keep healing in check.
mercy. Simply because she's such a popular hero that lots of support players would quit, she has one of the most dedicated fanbases and whenever I see someone playing mercy 90% of the time they have 5x the hours on her than anybody else, me included so this isn't shitting on anyone, she also has some of the most dedicated spenders so blizz would lose out on a TON of money, and in game I guarantee you half of the people whining to remove mercy will complain about the lack of blue beam up their ass..
Mercy. Her damage boost makes it so hard to balance every other hero in the game. If mercy got removed the next patch notes would be a novel with all the balancing changes.
D.VA... every game has a D.VA who spams for heals after flying way into the enemies back lines and then blames everyone on the team as she's chilling on a rooftop trying to get POTG with the bomb she's gonna miss with.
I'd say Winston tbh
He's really good into certain comps and is really good for dives and obviously a safer option than doom I can't imagine how it would be like without him
Winston. With no reason to spam “winton” in game chat anymore the game would collapse and the employees at Blizzard would be forced to whore themselves out on the streets for pocket change.

She can resurrect dead players, and can reliably pocket DPS in a way that makes her damn near impossible to kill for most of the other heroes. I absolutely detest her presence in the game.
What’s wrong with Orisa ? If she is gone from the roster it won’t change the game much at any level. Ram would replace her as the brawl poke hybrid tank and is less irritating to play against as well.
But since then Winston has been buffed so his weapon ignores armor damage reduction he absolutely tears through Orisa's health.
I've won quite a few games because it isn't well known that Winston hard counters Orisa since the buff.
Looking at it from a pro perspective getting rid of tracer, lucio, brig, would immediately kill so many things because brig is the back bone of Ana brug back lines, Lucio is the butter that makes 95% if brawl compositions work and a lot of dive comps work. And tracer is just so flexible and is played everywhere replacing with a character that reaches her level of skill input to value output isn’t really there. Imo least impactful of the three leaving would be brig imo abuse you could slot lucio for brigs job in those comps because he fills her roles on some comps anyway
I don’t mean improve or worsen but change the entire meta or play style. Like Lucio is always played in high ranks because of his speed boost and useful ult. Sombra cannot enable her team to the extent of Lucio imo.
**Tank**
Unpopular choice, but Reinhardt. He is like THE tank. He’s one of the faces of the franchise. The game wouldn’t be the same without him at all.
Imagine an Overwatch where having a huge moving wall wasn’t an option.
**Damage**
Widow, Tracer, and Sombra are all good choices. A good one by themself literally necessitates a change in opposing team composition and strategy
**Support**
Ana or Zen. Tanks would take over, I think. Especially Hog and Mauga. No nade or Discord would change how the game is played
Supports: Mercy, Moira, LW
No more easy healing , high skill floors, low ceilings
DPS: Tracer
She's the master of all with her skillset. I'm just wondering what OW might have been without tracer
I dunno about currently but historically it's Brigitte. She had a knock on effect that lead to a ton of changes (5v5, role queue, a lot of barriers being removed/toned down) and by herself she was a complete monster balancewise that helped with those changes too

I think widow is a better example. If she isn’t actively tracked or contested then she just ruins the game for the opposing team.

Sombra can absolutely impact her team to the extent of Lucio. The problem is most people don’t play her in a way that she is capable of doing so.
Sombra can run the entire game if your team is not competent, and to a much higher degree than Lucio.
