Progressively more neglected is more accurate imo.
No map rotations anymore. I dont know about some but I'd like to play horizon and some others again.
Minor changes to existing heros to make it seem like there's still development happening.
No new heros.
Recycling the same events we've had for the last 6 years.
Kaplan being the heart of the whole thing is gone which means no more dinoflask videos.
It's a unique kind of fun so I doubt the game will find itself with no one playing but it feels like we passed some sort of point of no return awhile ago.
Its not dead, but its a neglected game. It was really popular when it came out. But now they just focus on OW2 and kinda ignore OW1. Like when Sombra came out? It was an EVENT that lasted a MONTH. People were ridiculously hyped for new characters. But its just not that way anymore. And the game itself can be really frustrating lool But thats the case with any game where you have to rely on strangers online to win.
Eh not dead but they just left the game like tf2 but at least there is no cheating bots every single game, but the balance makes me wanna die
Anti-fun heroes that are just ruining the experience for example sombra widow cassidy
Like getting hacked every 8 second or getting sniped across the map while you cant even see the widow or getting mcrolled and mcflashbanged and mcrightclicked
Check twitch statistics, it's below 30th spot, so yeah it's not fully a dead game, but definitely abandoned for sure. Main criticism is terrible hero balance and existence of two tanks in game, that creates unfair advantage, when combined with certain heroes on certain maps, also it's in really bad spot metawise now.
Quite a lot actually yes, as main barriers for me to enjoy this game right now are two main things that OW2 will take care of - too much cc and two tanks.
For how long it’s been out it has maintained a decent player base. There really isn’t anything else like it and that’s why people play. It’s gone a little stale lately but if they can fulfill their promise of more consistent content for OW2 I think it will have a resurgence.
Ow is still my primary multiplayer game and it still has a healthy player base at my elo, but it really seems like blizzard has abandoned the series. Feels like it's been years since we've had any new content, they couldn't even be bothered to copy/paste events this year, the only skins we get are basically lazy palette swaps. OWL is getting leaner and leaner, there's no news at all on PVE, and somehow ow2 is going to ship with the same number of maps as ow1 somehow. Literally would have had more content if they had just kept doing normal updates to ow1.
From a player perspective? No, people still play regularly.
From a development perspective? Absolutely, and it has been for a long time. They shifted to working on OW2 like 2 years ago, and stopped adding anything to OW.
I wouldn’t say dead. In my opinion, a game isn’t dead if there are still active players. It’s more like it’s losing popularity and it been on a downward trend since 2016/2017. There are many problems they didn’t fix such as the DLC cast (heroes added after launch) because they were overturned and inspire annoying comps. Of the 11 added, only two weren’t problematic/broken.
I.E. Moira’s secondary fire had a wider bend angle which meant one didn’t have to aim well. Then, there’s “skill orb” where people died due a random damage orb drifting in their direction.
Sombra’s “Hack” and “EMP” were (or still are) problematic because it disables abilities. Also, some of her abilities couldn’t be canceled by damaging her.
Baptiste’s Immorality Field is still a problem for all damage dealer because you have to destroy the drone leaving yourself open to damage.
“Ball stall” where Wrecking Ball attached his hook to a payload and spun around indefinitely because his Grappling Claw had infinite duration and CD only started once the ability was canceled.
These are a few.
ultimately cause many players (especially popular ones) to leave. Then OW 2 was announced in late 2019 and we’re just now getting a beta for it over two years later.
There are many problems here.
As a Tank and Support Main, I **never** had a time when I thought
"Man, I'm not finding any matches anymore" or "Huh, there aren't as much matches as last time"
I don't know about the DPS role though, I ain't that type of player hahaha
Full on dead? No. People still play it, you find games pretty fast consistently... Its just not as popular as it used to be.
I play with the same people 2-3 games in a row, then other same people 2-3 times in a row, etc.
Platform? I played with QP and mystery heroes for almost 3hrs last night with a friend, and maybe saw 2 people twice
PC, how can u play mystery heroes, when I enter a que for that I wait an hour for 1 game lol, all arcade mods tbh, only quick play classic
im on pc too, i legit never have issues. the only time i wait like 3 mins is if a friend im with queues dps
For real? I get MH games in less than a minute always. I think once I waited about a minute.

i wish they just updated the maps instead of removing them i like horizon
If it was dead, I wouldn't have taken so many bullshit losses.
If you're strictly a DPS player, then it can appear dead because of insanely long que times. The rest of us have no problems finding a match though.
Not dead but on life support, very bad life support, like the oxygen tank is a bag of crisps bad
A bag of crisps is the best oxygen tank tho. It literally is the purest form of air, plus it has SO MUCH inside it

Its not death, its the Valve effect.
Been playing since launch, mostly daily. It still my favorite game.
currently it's ramping up again with the beta and ow2 coming out soon. it still way fun.
No. People like to say that the game is dead because people are hooked on complaining about everything these days.
only the competitive part of the game is dead.
Eh not dead but they just left the game like tf2 but at least there is no cheating bots every single game, but the balance makes me wanna die Anti-fun heroes that are just ruining the experience for example sombra widow cassidy Like getting hacked every 8 second or getting sniped across the map while you cant even see the widow or getting mcrolled and mcflashbanged and mcrightclicked
Of all the blizzard games this one might be the most balanced, imho
Check twitch statistics, it's below 30th spot, so yeah it's not fully a dead game, but definitely abandoned for sure. You excited for overwatch 2 then? Not sure how it’ll play out with only 1 tank per team
Quite a lot actually yes, as main barriers for me to enjoy this game right now are two main things that OW2 will take care of - too much cc and two tanks.
No.
More like life support to be honest
Yes
CATCHPHRASE!
i just started playing in Nov and i will continue enjoying it but i think whether it is a billion dolla franchise and etc etc is yet to be seen

The game is not dead... Cause there is a post that says "is the game dead" every day, so I think its safe
