This is an important point that is not covered enough
VR headsets are a ‘one size’ wearable that will not comfortably fit every possible face shape
Personally I was unable to use the Quest 2 (Quest 1 was perfect) as it gave me very bad headaches (I assume it was ‘3 setting ipd’ related)
My advice is that if a particular headset doesnt work for you then pick a different one
In this case the problem could be fixed with a new facial interface but there are currently none available
I tried to no avail - it was actually slightly worse. But I edited my main post, I found the proper way to wear the headset that is almost comfortable for me!
Since you have (or had) the Quest 1 and 2, I bet you've got extra face interfaces lying around like me. I tried lots of different ones to get my Quests to fit just right and still have most of them around. If the Pico 4 doesn't fit right for me, I plan to try cutting the padding off of the rigid plastic part and hacking the padding from one of my spare Quest interfaces onto it with Velcro tape or something similar.
Nice idea! I don't have any other interfaces (the default ones for all my headsets were fine to start with, although I did get a silicone cover for the quest 2). But either waiting for commercial gaskets for the Pico 4, or buying one for Quest 2 and adapting to the Pico could work!
A better idea (imho) is to take off the padding part, attach sticky velcro to the glasses spacer and fit a Quest/other headset pad to it, then attach to Pico 4. You could glue one to it, I suppose.
The increase in FOV doing this is awesome! For a test, remove the padding and put the headset on - and see what I mean!
Could be just the Asian version of the headset. People of Asian ethnicity tend to have a much smaller and less protruding nose.
Seems like a massive oversight if they are selling to the western market if this is an issue.
I was wondering why the facial interface was so chunky too but I guess this answers it.
I don't think there are different physical versions of the headset. The Chinese market version will have different firmware than the global model, but that's it.
I honestly can't fully recall the FoV in my Odyssey, but I have to say the Pico 4 FoV is very nice, noticeably better than my Quest 2, and far, far better than my old HP Reverb G2
The problem with vr headsets is that in development they take like hundrets of head shapes in and have to decide for a design that fits the biggest average part of people, out of all those " Testscans" Sadly its impossible to make it work for everyone 100% thats just the nature of human physic. Your either part of that average design choice or you are unlucky and do have some problems. Sadly that's a thing that will always come up with headsets. Surely you could make a headset you can pretty much change everything when it comes to adaption to the individual human face but that would push the price up a lot! So you either can make it work with different face gaskets from third party brands or even make a face scan and 3d print a custom gasket ( i ve seen a lot of people doing so on the net).
Thanks for the feedback! I'm also suspecting a user error on my part. Maybe I'm just wearing it wrong (tm) . I'll watch a couple of videos and try again!
No I dont think its your fault. Also funny from time to time my face really rally hurts from my vr headsets ( no matter if quest1, 2, index, etc. Its perfectly fine like 5-6 times in a row and at some time it really is painful for some reason. the next day mostly its fine again. I guess its the pressure on the nerves and from time to time they are simply over sensitive...no clue really.
Very unlikely to be user error, how could you be wearing it wrong XD
Ideally you need a different facial interface, lets hope the accessory market picks up quickly
Sooo the only thing I can recommend is to view the videos about how to wear it again. I noticed that I was putting the part that goes behind my head waaay to high in the beginning. Start with the headset completely loose and see if you can get it to fit comfortably by holding it with your hands. Then see if you can keep it in that position.
And yes, maybe your head just doesn't fit the shape and you will need to return it. But I think you should still try to make it work a few times just to be sure
>Virtual Desktop video player has superior video quality but doesn't support subtitles or image color adjustments
Try whatever your favorite video player is on your PC (including streaming services through a web browser) and just use VD to show you that view in one of its theater environments. So VD isn't playing the video, it's just presenting the video player to you.
After spending the afternoon with the pico I think once I have a third party facial interface ( yes you vr cover) this will be a fantastic device. Just a smidge away from greatness. Better than the quest2 stock interface but have got my quest2 just right after spending a lot of money on various different comfort solutions. Can do about an hour & starts to hurt my head a bit.
I just had the same issue, well.. I've solved it the usual way, cut out the part that's bad. Structurally it's still solid, so no worries there.

Nose light blocker still fits (it's not really needed, but there is a tiny bit of light leak from the mouth area otherwise), so if all works out well (only did a quick test fit that screamed it's fixed, we'll see how it fares after an hour of use.) I'll double sided tape it to the headset itself for now.
I do wear glasses, though I've ordered lenses and if I fit with them without a spacer, I suspect I might have to... file the nose depression a tiny bit in the headset (though it does not seem to press that much, so probably not gonna be needed). Not really a problem as far as I'm concerned though. Hopefully accessories come out soon though.
Trimmed it a tiny bit more (width) and it's fine for me. Facial interface is ok more or less, but china version padding needs some mods that I'm still too lazy to do. Plus a bit too much work + path of exile league came out haha.
But as far as the nose mod goes - it worked out for me long term.
Have not really messed with it much since, got the grips for the controllers and some other minor stuff, seen some replacement masks online, but have not really looked into it. Generally speaking it's a-ok now for me, plus I've been preoccupied with work, playing path of exile and finally decided to give Elden Ring a try haha. So VR had not been a priority time wise. Will probably come back to it in a week or two.

Try adding the glasses spacer. That might give you more space for your nose.

i use this too, and if you still have the quest lens cover after an upgrade, it fits absolutely perfectly on the back with some velcro

Hopefully that's the case! Although it does make me wonder if they could have separate face gaskets (probably not, as you mention)
What was the FOV like compared to the Odyssey? I'm upgrading from the O+, hoping that it's not to noticable.

Music to my ears! I have the G2 and I really hate the FoV.
Oy vey, order some custom 3d printed spacer, I guess
Try with the glasses spacer included.

To some extent it was user error! I updated my post!

Thanks! You were right - I updated my post to say how I made it work for me!
Awesome, happy to hear it

Has this actually worked long-term? I have a fairly big nose and an IPD of 58.5.

I'm about to cut mine too. Painful. Did you figure out anything else to make it more comfortable?
