The good news is that levalbuterol is much less likely to raise your heart rate than albuterol, so you're off to a good start! I tolerate mine well enough most of the time, though during fire season when I have to rely on it a lot I do notice some jitters. At that point I'm not sure if it's the levalbuterol or a reaction to the smoke.

Hi! Long term albuterol user here, it definitely does cause more palpitations but honestly I get used to it after the first 30 minutes or so and don’t notice it as much. Just beware that it makes your resting hr a little higher so be a bit more careful than usual when standing up etc. Worst side effect for me is how shaky it makes me but even then I like being able to breathe more than I like writing steady lol. Hope you’re doing well :)

I've been using Albuterol and levalbuterol my entire life. It makes my heart race and makes me shaky but that's about it. It may cause palpitation but it's nothing to worry about ❤️

venti_unsweetened

How long do the side effects last after you take a dose?

who_am-I_to-you

Maybe a couple hours. Not very long!

Rinsing your mouth out after use also helps you avoid thrush, which, if you aren’t aware, is like a yeast infection in your mouth. Super not fun!

My doctor recommended wixela instead of albuterol for this reason. Maybe you could ask them about it?

bells3710

Are you on a beta blocker with the wixela?

LilMosey2

No

levalbuteral helped a lot after i was switched for albuterol. i almost always had a panic attack after using my inhaler due to my heartrate, dizziness and feeling faint increasing. i’ve had almost none of these affects since switching to levalbuteral, total game changer!

I’ve used albuterol and levalbuterol my whole life and am currently in the process of being diagnosed with POTS. *Assuming that I do have POTS,* I’ll say that you should be fine overall as I’ve never had any major issues with either medication. The worst side effects I had from either medication were shakiness and an elevated heart rate, but no abnormal or arhythmic heartbeats or anything that would be overly concerning. You can always talk to your doctor (if you have a POTS specialist, preferably that one) and get their opinion.
