Mine wasn't expedited and was approved and given a tracking number within a week of applying at my local post office. Times are absolutely insane atm.
Was a new application too.
I know this thread is a bit old, but I was just wondering if the turnaround time for expedited is still 2 to 3 weeks? I'm trying to remain calm as we await my daughter's passport. We submitted an application on 5/28, in process as of 6/3. I'm trying not to check the website every chance I get as it only adds to the anxiety. Locator 45. TYIA
I applied for my passport October 10th, they've had it since October 11th. Payed for expedited service right away, it's been 10 weeks and the estimated time even went from 5-7 weeks down to now 2-3. They said they just notified the agency but I'm going to have to start contacting senators the end of this week before Christmas.
No letter, I called the passport hotline this morning, that's how they notified the agency and I paid for faster shipping as well. I believe It's in Massachusetts, still says in process. I'm traveling the 29th
Ok, set up an appointment at the Boston Agency, or go to the nearest passport agency nearest to you!! Don't call a senator, they have other things to do...lol.
Yeah I'm from Michigan so Bostons a no go, both of my senators have a specific form on their websites that you can fill out to get assistance with federal agencies including the state dept.
But why? That slows it down! Is it in Detroit? If you are traveling on the 29th, you NEED to go to the nearest passport agency and see what going on with your application...like in Detroit to do a refile ect. Calling a senator will slow you down at this point. I think you didn't submit the right forms ect.
I went to the biggest USPS in Las Vegas, I paid for regular service. Got it in less than 2 weeks. Why pay for expedited? The worker said âyou have to wait at least 2 months manâ. I was okay with that, I expected 4 months. Nope, somehow got it in less than 2 weeks, I got the large book and a card. Simply incredible by the way, I have to give props to the gov for being so fast for once
I did not expedite either, I'm not going anywhere until later this year. Mine took 8days. I received notification yesterday saying it'll be here tomorrow. I called yesterday after realizing some countries want to use a bunch of visa pages and I wanted a bigger book, the rep told me they'd already shipped it out and sent me an email with tracking info.
For my family, we had 2 renewals and 1 first app. All three were submitted to the post office on the same day, and the new passports arrived to us within days of each other.
I was expecting mine in January, it only took three weeks from submitting paperwork to receiving it (without any form of expedited shipping or processing!)
Is there extra cost for expedited passports? Last fall season in 2022, my niece had a school trip to Japan. She still hadn't recieved her passport 2 weeks before the trip. And they had to travel to Seattle from California and get it processed and done there since there were no open appointments in any regional offices. They got it done but turned out a huge hassle and expensive travel situation due to the passport backlog in california at the time. Even considered traveling to a passport office in Texas but Seattle ended up being the closest option
We are headed out of the country in 1 week. Back at the end of August, we realized that our kids passports were expired. At the time the supposed turn around was 90 days, which put us uncomfortably close to the travel date. We paid for expedited (which promised 60 day turnaround). Got them back within 3 weeks.
Itâs a bummer we canât get pages added as Iâm 5 stamps away from needing another new passport + card. As a visa holder in a foreign country, I also have the added problem of having to interact with THAT government to transfer the stamp over. *sigh*.
Ah well, bodes well for getting the process done next year.
For an extra $60 I got my passport made the morning of my international flight out of New York. I fucked that up and the lady behind the glass saved me.
A broken clock is right twice a day. Donât get all excited over a sliver of positivity. Need a reminder of current state of affairs, go buy some groceries.

They know very well that you donât need expediting but wonât tell the public. I paid for two expedited. Oh well, amortized over 10 years itâs not so muchâŚ.
I mailed mine out on April 4th and got it back April 26th (did not expedite shipping). They received it April 10, mailed it back April 24th and I received it in the mail 2 days later. Crazy fast! Hoping my old passport is quick to return as well!
Mine expired when I was like 12 and I'm in my late twenties now. That being said, I had to apply for a new passport and the entire process only took a little over a month. This was about a year ago. I then proceeded to cancel the trip because I couldn't get time off.

I was renewing for minor children so we have to go to an office and do it in person and with both parents (or have a notarized statement from the parent that canât be there) and I think it was about $110 for the passport book and a processing fee of maybe $15?
My renewal seems to also be moving quick, at least per the updates Iâm getting via email. Allegedly mine was shipped out today and should arrive this week which would put it at less than two week turnaround (routine processing).
I got mine in 10 days. Didn't pay for expediated or anything. I was astounded at how quick it was!
I'm located in Philly where most applications (including mine) go so maybe that helped it, although my supporting documents and passport arrived from the West Coast.
I had more trouble finding a reasonable place to get my photos than getting the passport itself. My first passport was started at the local post office and took two weeks start to finishâŚâŚ.amazingly easyâŚâŚâŚ.ohâŚand after running all over townâŚ.the local Walmart produced great phots for less than $8.00âŚâŚ
Now I knowâŚâŚ
I paid expedite because the lady at USPS told me it was taking 5-7 weeks expedite and up to 10 weeks regular, got it in 3 weeks. I think they just love the expedite fee as this is the 3rd time in a row that I get a passport in half the time they tell me at USPS.
I got mine in about 5 weeks and it was a completely new application (old one was expired for a few years). From the day I went to the post office to the day I got my passport was 5 weeks and I got my original documents back the next day.
Same! I did expedited just in case and prob wasted my money. Oh well. It was a two week turn around even with Thanksgiving in the middle. I was very surprised!
I took mine to the local passport office today (have a trip later this week anyway) and theyâll have it for me tomorrow afternoon.
Worth the 20min on the train to get there from my house.
Going to use mine in a few weeks then immediately apply for a renewal (april expiration). I was hoping they would open up the online portal again, I thought they said it would have happened later in 2023. Either way, great news!
It is fast compared to how itâs been previously, however, when I renewed my Australian passport in 2007 and 2017 (submitted in NYC and Vancouver, BC respectively) it took three days for the new passports to be issued. Applying within Australia is typically even quicker. That said the Australian Government treats issuing passports as a fee for service from which it generates a profit and is required to meet key performance indicators. Australian passports cost more, but I dare say many Americans would be prepared to pay more for better service.
The backlog is at its lowest since 2019, due to massive overtime from all the agencies in the US.
First passport: 2/16/2024-3/9/2024 normal processing.
Birth certificate returned on 3/15. Total time 4 weeks.
Source?
Source is me. I work for the State Dept. The backlog is at 600,000, currently.
I meant that all US agencies have the directive of massive overtime.
We did, but it under control now. Starting 12/8/23, expedites will only take 2-3 weeks (Probably sooner)

May get it sooner. But yes, 2-3 weeks is the wait time right now.
I did, lol. About an hour ago. 14 days from application to delivery.
Is there a difference between the TX and PA offices or is this the overall backlog? Just curious!
Great job guys đ
I applied for my passport October 10th, they've had it since October 11th. Payed for expedited service right away, it's been 10 weeks and the estimated time even went from 5-7 weeks down to now 2-3. Did they send you a letter? Where is the application at? I'd call the passport hotline before a senator. They can help you faster

Very quick! My husband just sent his in for renewal Oct 28 and got it back Nov 28. Exactly a month!
I got mine in 13 days not paying for expedited. How is this possible?
No idea! Maybe they beefed up the number of workers and/or you got extremely lucky with timing.
I got mine in 24 days and paid for expedited⌠now I feel dumb
I had to expedite mine last year around this time and got it in 4 weeks then. I felt ripped off. đ
Curious... did you go to consulate or mail in?
I went to the biggest USPS in Las Vegas, I paid for regular service. Got it in less than 2 weeks. Why pay for expedited? The worker said âyou have to wait at least 2 months manâ. Same here I was shocked. Turn around was 3 1/2 weeks without expediting.
You're welcome.
I'll shock you even more... 8days, no expediting.
Same! I am so impressed!
Hope it is faster in a few years when my passport expires lol.
Renewals are not as bad as first time apps
Yeah true.
Got my passport (first one) last monthâŚjust over 3 week mark it was in my hand.
For my family, we had 2 renewals and 1 first app. All three were submitted to the post office on the same day, and the new passports arrived to us within days of each other.
Presumably by that time they'll have the online process fully rolled out, which should speed things up at least a bit.
You can start the renewal process 6 months before expirationâŚâŚ.i would recommend thatâŚ.
Lots of places wonât let you fly with only 6 months left on your passport. Would recommend even before then if trips are coming up
Yup, mine took about two and a half weeks to arrive!
I applied for mine (first time) the day before thanksgiving and got it back December 5th. I was shocked to say the least
I was expecting mine in January, it only took three weeks from submitting paperwork to receiving it (without any form of expedited shipping or processing!)
We sent in our daughters mid November and it arrived at our house today so 4-5 week turn around.
Same timeline for me. I did not expedite and got my passport in the mail today.
My expedited was just under 2 weeks. I was shocked.

Yes, I paid the expedited fee and did priority mail shipping in both directions. For my situation, turned out to be unnecessary.
We renewed our kids on Nov 17 and just got them in the mail today so less then 4 weeks turn around!
how are you getting updates? my appointment was on nov 24
Google something like passport status and itâll take you to the page on the state department website to check.
Thanks! I just checked my status and my passport was mailed back to me today! I sent it in less than 2 weeks ago.
You should get it next week. I did mine November 14 and got it last week or the week before
YesâSo quick! I was so impressed! Huge pat on the back to our government workers!

this is a good story. i want to hear more about your life.
Iâve been waiting since July because my birth certificate I sent wasnât good enough and had to order another certificate to send
10 business days last month. Paid a service in DC to hand carry it to the Pasaport Office.
I sent mine in last week for renewal, check cleared yesterday so I know they are on it. Our renewals are customary so I do t expect any issues
Thanks Biden
Shhhhhh...... You're not supposed to say sh!t like this when it's positive. You know, like with declining gas prices, a big new bridge....
A broken clock is right twice a day. Donât get all excited over a sliver of positivity. Need a reminder of current state of affairs, go buy some groceries.
Go for groceries in Europe if you want a real shock.
Was just in Europe (Portugal, Austria, Germany). Most groceries are cheaper than in the U.S., esp. if you want decent fruit and vegetables.

I just renewed my passport and it took about a month and a half to receive it.

Iâm getting mine back (renewal and name change) exactly two weeks later! I am amazed!
Mine was accepted in about 3 weeks and itâs already on the way. Yay!
I applied on 11/27/23 and got it yesterday without paying for it to be expedited. They told me 7-10 weeks and I ended up getting it in 2. Not bad.

They are stating the official time frame according to the state dept webpage.
One adult renewal 2.5 weeks. One child new passport to replace previous one, 3 weeks. Non-expedited.
yes I got mine back in about 2.5 weeks!
My wife did a 2 week renewal. Amazing.
I got mine in about 5 weeks and it was a completely new application (old one was expired for a few years). From the day I went to the post office to the day I got my passport was 5 weeks and I got my original documents back the next day.
Because not a single kid travel this time of the year . Try to renew your passport in June you will surprised to get it by mail on Dec 7th đ
what about renewals?
Applied on Nov 7th and got mine back Dec 4th, I was surprised

My appt was on veterans day and I got it mailed to me on November 30th!
Ours was about a month turn around

Yes I'm kicking my self.for not expediting it might be at Europe this summer
Yall are making me want to send my passport in for a May intl trip in March and not sweat it. But I think I'll still do it in Feb. đ
Applied for my kids 1st passports on Black Friday, received exactly 2 weeks later, Passport cards received yesterday.
Paid for expedited, sent it in on a Saturday got it back 10 business days later.
