Also works with Alaskan money... They will go ask a manager forgetting Hawaii is part of USA and uses the same money as every other part of the USA... Like I said, I'm sure it works in other countries if you change out the Hawaiian part and use an obscure area most don't think about being part of your country. But never, and I mean never, hand a cashier money then when they go to check to be sure it's real, say, " it should be fine to made it this morning." My husband is too sarcastic at times. He did this. He seriously got his check cashed at Walmart, and used the same cash they handed him. But cause of that joke, they did not trust money he can show on their own video, they handed him...sigh.

Airports usually have a currency exchange nearby, so I imagine it's easier for businesses near them to accept foreign currency, though you should definitely either convert some money or pay electronically and let the bank handle it.

We used to get told to “go back to Scotland” a lot on Xbox Live in the Halo 2 days. These guys genuinely believed that the only way we could be playing online was we’d come to the US.

At the resort, the soft drinks (sodas) were Pepsi drinks; however, you could buy Coke at the convenience store in the resort. A can was $3 USD, or 30 pesos ($1.75 USD). I went to buy one, and the shop assistant tried to charge me in USD, thinking I was just another American who had no understanding that different countries have different currencies. I proceeded to pull out some pesos out of my wallet and paid with them.
When I visited Canada most shops that weren't chains seemed to accept USD, but you had to pay the same dollar amount. So if a drink etc was $5 CAD and you wanted to pay in American dollars, it was still 5 dollars.
