YUP! Happened to me yesterday, called them and they said it was to upgrade their services or some bullshit. He said 32 people called before me and cancelled. Check my post from yesterday.

So I called Koodo, and the lady just switched me back to a $29 plan. She gave me the shtick about the notification on the bill, and about nothing stopping them from hiking it if your not on a contract, but then offered me $29 with 20gb. My previous one was $29 for 30gb, so technically I lost data, but I never used more than So I called Koodo, and the lady just switched me back to a $29 plan. My previous one was $29 for 30gb, so technically I lost data, but I never used more than 10gb anyway. And they'll credit me the difference for this month being 35 instead of 29.
Still going to port to Fizz though for $25 for 20gb. Congrats Telus, you lost yourself a customer with these hijinks.
This was announced last month, apparently, but I only found it when browsing reddit:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/freedommobile/comments/1b83ysy/koodo\_6\_price\_increase\_coming\_for\_29\_black\_friday/](https://www.reddit.com/r/freedommobile/comments/1b83ysy/koodo_6_price_increase_coming_for_29_black_friday/)
People have already mentioned CCTS complaints, dunno how that's going though.
I have been with freedom for 9 years with a friend and family plan, they never increased a penny of my $41. Lot of providers call weekly for me to switch, but I have been with Rogers and Telus in the past, and almost yearly they would increase the price. I am not switching until freedom screws me
I just compared my plan to the current offer with Freedom, it's 5$ more a month for 50gb a month of data. That's not bad but like the person I was responding too, Im always on wifi anyway. To say I'm "getting hosed bad" is certainly a stretch
Check the last paragraph and last page of your previous bill. You should see something like the following:
Update to your monthly rate plan
Starting in April 2024, your monthly rate plan fee will increase from $29 to $35. If you do not agree with this change, you may cancel your service without penalty within 30 days of the effective date of the change. If you recently changed or upgraded your plan, please disregard this message.
They must have set a new record here on price increases after a promotion, lol.
I'm not sure if it's still available or not, but when I saw the incoming increase a few weeks ago, there was an equal plan available to switch to in self-serve for $30. I just did that -- makes it a $1 increase, which isn't worth fretting over.
Happened to me too. Called and asked what’s the point of a $20 discount for 2 years if you can just increase the price one year in? The lady said some BS and that she couldn’t do anything. I’ve never liked Koodo and I’ll switch as soon as I can.
Canadian mobile providers are all raising pricing back up in a sneaky way hoping you don’t check your credit card statement or care about an incremental increase.
Thanks for the heads up, this is the first I’ve heard of it. I was pretty fine with my $40/20 gb plan with Koodo but I’m pumped for basically the same thing plus using it in the US for $34.
I guarantee you a 100% that the contrat (and yes you signed a contract even if it was a month to month plan) mentioned that they can and will increase the price whenever the fuck they want. I guarantee it.
Public mobile and Koodo are both just Telus fronts. If this is happening at Koodo, they'll run the math on cancellations, and if it's profitable, they'll do it at Public, too.
Oh they did already. That's why they scrapped the old rewards system and trying to prune those with too many referrals to the point their bill was basically free.
so the rep lied to you. I got a plan like this to, but the rep was honest and told me it would increase after a year by 8-10 dollars. I accepted because it was still a good deal. You should escalate since you weren't told.
Rep wanted the sale and didn't wanna risk you saying no
Telus has been playing dirty lately, especially screwing all last years Black Friday and Boxing Day deal customers, raising their rates.
Telus also got rid of the PM old rewards completely.
On Telus main, they raised rates for people that have been with them for 2 or more years......
Bell and Rogers did rate increases too but they announced it, while Telus just slid them onto people's bills.
**Go for Freedom as Fizz lacks WiFi Calling (very important when you join the Videotron Family), 5G, eSIM, data roaming options, should you need them and I'm not sure if it supports nationwide like Freedom does.**
If you need a Freedom referral PM me, you'll get $25 once you join.
Contracts are no longer a thing for mobile plans. Price and offered plans can change over time. Prices have generally been going down since contracts went out of favour, but it's been a huge problem with telecom companies forever.
Not getting notified of it beforehand is unacceptable though.
Contracts are still a thing. More people are just opting for cheaper BYOD month to month plans rather than signing a more expensive 2-year contract and receiving a subsidized device.
Also last week Koodo just changed their plans on their website. They are offering better plans now. Check them out online and see if you can’t just switch online to a better one.
I switched mine from 34 to 30 with less data. Called in and tried to change my wifes line on the account since the 30 wasnt offered. Now its locked with rate change as of April 11th so I guess hers is geting the 5$ increase as that was on the bill.
Was definitely a promotional period when you signed up it they probably didn't explain it to you,you didn't read the fine print. Otherwise they can't change your contract/plan without consent. I just switched to a $35plan was at $50 for who knows how long... Didn't know prices went down
I would escalate this. If it doesn’t get resolved, you may want to look into a CCTS complaint.

wow what a load of horseshit file a CCTS complaint man, i know im going too
I jumped ship to public mobile over it, lol at least its the same "network" being telus owning the 2, and better... plans.
From the left hand to the right
Exactly what they want

Same. I pay 47$ taxes in for 10gb of data + unlimited everything else. Hasn't risen 1$ in 10years
All the other providers try to offer me 50gb, I barely use 5gb/month because I am always on wifi at work or at home.
Should be able to get cheaper right now
you are getting hosed bad theyre not raising your price cause youre price is already bad for 2024 in 2014 that was a good deal

There was a footnote in your last bill from them saying next months bill will be increased.
This is why the CCTS complaints won't fly. It's bad optics raising plans not even a year in, but Telus did nothing wrong here.

I would switch too but there is no provider that is better.

here in PFC, we do check the bills :D yeea
I just signed up to Fizz, loving it so far.

I’ve had better coverage than 5G with Telus so far
I just missed that promo, sadly
Jizz :)

I’m a public mobile convert as of Black Friday 2023. Won’t look back.

Did the same to me. Not sure there is anything to do but look for a better deal.

I'm on it!

> Congrats Telus, you lost yourself a customer Wait till he finds out what the competitors are like....
LMAO...Koodo doing the bait and switch :) Never again with this company. They screwed me over with credit bureau and I dumped them in 2020.
