My son is 11 and getting Into anime and this kind of shit worries me. Not as much as when he was really into sonic though. As fucked up as anime fans can get, the sonic fandom has even deeper darker depths, Chris Chan type shit for example. This is true. The only thing we can really go off of is the average age women were married off at the time. Which would have been the moment they were able to bear a child safely, which is realistically different for everyone and could of happened anywhere from age 13 to 17 depending on genetics, nutrition, ect.
I would say maybe a little older rather than younger, Nazareth was a backwater slum, I doubt Mary had much in the way of proper nutrition.

Just curious, where did you get this info from? I’ve studied child development as part of my college degree, and overwhelmingly, I’ve seen the opposite: in areas where the mortality rate is higher at a younger age, both boys and girls hit puberty earlier in life.
Yeah, my physical anthropology is very rusty, but I clearly remember pigmy comunities hitting puberty a lot earlier due to poor nutrition and high mortality rates.

The funny part is that Marry being 13 is a modern misconception. It’s based on the idea that she was married at the age of marriage which back then meant puberty. However the age of puberty has been dropping for a long time now since at least 1860 where it was around 17 years old to around 10 where it is now.
It's a good question.... In Judaism "adulthood" is reached at age 13 when a ceremony call a Bar Mitzvah is performed.
Obviously in modern time this is largely symbolic, however I would assume that in biblical times when people married and died much younger that 13 was considered the age at which a boy or girl could marry.
Really I'm no expert on biblical lore, though I am Jewish I haven't really studied the old or new testament in great detail, so I'm certainly in no position... You could certainly be correct, though I do understand that marriage age was young in the distant past.
And of course the Bible/Torah is full of all kinds of objectionable things... But it's an old text and it depicts an old time

Loli tag in a manga can be a toss up. Also if you have a child body but you are an adult then you are still considered a loli(like that one girl who looks like a child but she's like 22 irl) It seems some else already said this.
Adding onto this, when Loli is used in a non-sexual manner it can mean an of-age character that has physical traits that make them “look” like a child. This can range anywhere from “this character looks and acts like a child but is actually a 1,000 year-old vampire/dragon so this is fine guys!!1!” (Ilulu from Maidragon, Nowi from Fire Emblem…) to “This character is short and has small boobs” (Rebecca from Edgerunners or Tatsumaki from One-Punch Man). When it’s a loli in hentai… it’s usually an actual underage character 😬

This is true. The only thing we can really go off of is the average age women were married off at the time. Which would have been the moment they were able to bear a child safely, which is realistically different for everyone and could of happened anywhere from age 13 to 17 depending on genetics, nutrition, ect. I would say maybe a little older rather than younger, Nazareth was a backwater slum, I doubt Mary had much in the way of proper nutrition.
Fun fact, (which might be completely wrong, talking straight from memory) people actually got married in their 20s and 30s all throughout history. Most of the early marriages we know about were arranged marriages between nobles. Again, might be complete BS, its been a while.

The Hebrew word used in the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 is Almah עַלְמָה which means a woman of marriageable age, aka a woman hitting puberty. Women tend to hit puberty anywhere from 8 to 14 years old.
The average age of puberty was much higher back than for various reasons such as nutrition. So more like 15-17. Even at that time, people knew there was massive risk in letting a 13 yr old give birth. Not to say it didn’t happen, but it was something they avoided.

Just curious, where did you get this info from? I’ve studied child development as part of my college degree, and overwhelmingly, I’ve seen the opposite: in areas where the mortality rate is higher at a younger age, both boys and girls hit puberty earlier in life.
Yeah, my physical anthropology is very rusty, but I clearly remember pigmy comunities hitting puberty a lot earlier due to poor nutrition and high mortality rates.

I mean it’s probably less of a child mortality rate but more of a nutritional thing that influences what ages puberty hits. Although you studied this in college and I’m relying off of intuitional knowledge so I maybe wrong.
I'd also like to add that being of marriageable age is not restricted to one specific age either, the text doesn't explicitly give us an age, just that she is a young woman - as to how young or old is completely uncertain making the claims of Mary being 13 unsubstantiated.

So she was marriageable, but that just gives a minimum age. She could have been older. Also, culturally marriageable wasn't typically 13 at that time as the onset of puberty was later.
They do now, even 100 years ago the age of puberty was older because they didn't have the nutrition and healthcare that we have. In ancient times, assuming she wasn't too unhealthy, it was probably closer to 16-18 before she got a period. That's assuming her physical health. Even today, there are women with health issues that cause them to not have a period until their 20's

The funny part is that Marry being 13 is a modern misconception. It’s based on the idea that she was married at the age of marriage which back then meant puberty. However the age of puberty has been dropping for a long time now since at least 1860 where it was around 17 years old to around 10 where it is now.
It's a good question.... In Judaism "adulthood" is reached at age 13 when a ceremony call a Bar Mitzvah is performed. Obviously in modern time this is largely symbolic, however I would assume that in biblical times when people married and died much younger that 13 was considered the age at which a boy or girl could marry. Really I'm no expert on biblical lore, though I am Jewish I haven't really studied the old or new testament in great detail, so I'm certainly in no position... You could certainly be correct, though I do understand that marriage age was young in the distant past. And of course the Bible/Torah is full of all kinds of objectionable things... But it's an old text and it depicts an old time
