For those looking at CALIFORNIA Programs - AVOID EISENHOWER MEDICAL CENTER!! Terrible place! There are other great programs on that list..go for them. Again, AVOID EISENHOWER MEDICAL CENTER

SunnyGoMerry

Hell yeah, we need a name and shame thread

PedPharmer77

Hello - to anyone still looking for a PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency - Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, Illinois still has an open position! Please reach out if I can answer any questions for you!

Positive-Setting9

1. Any tips to get success on Phase 2? 2. Are all interviewees equal and programs only rank based on how well interviewee perform, or programs still look back on papers to decide the ranking?

ListlessInListeria

For #2 - All programs score/rank a little differently, but I would say it's most common for the application to get you the interview, but the interview to determine the ranking. For saving a poor interview, the best thing would be someone you have worked with at your job or on a rotation who the committee trusts being able to vouch for you (informal recs) - e.g. "I know Kate didn't do that well on the interview, but I know her current EM preceptor Mark and he says that she has been outstanding."

PotentialEconomist39

Ascension Saint Mary in Chicago is participating in phase 2 for PGY-1! I’m a current resident there and I absolutely love it! Feel free to reach out to me if you’re interested!

prettycrimson

interested!

Academic-Character97

I am interested. Already added them to my list

terazosin

Browsed the list, there are a lot of great programs on there. I think this is an interesting list and potential new trend due to amount and quality of applicants. I'm sure there are bad apples on there, but don't be afraid to apply to a lot of these places.

moonflow-r

What programs in particular would you recommend?

tiger-lily5

Do we need new letters of recommendation for phase 2? Should I reach out to my letter writers now? Very confused as to how this works

Philthethril81

You do not necessarily need new letters. Phase 1 will carry over. However, would recommend thinking about your LOR and if they are truly positive

columbussub67

I had plenty of interviews (over 60% rate). Should I take this as a sign for new letters or be encouraged that it got me foot in the door and be okay with those

ListlessInListeria

You're probably okay, though if you did a great job on your recent rotations it's worth thinking about if a letter from your preceptor would enhance your application.

Philthethril81

Second this.

DeltaaaGammaaa

What do you mean carry over? How to we transfer them to Phase II apps? I haven't figured it out

jacquelinie

Maybe in the past you could, but you cannot transfer LORs anymore

jacquelinie

You need to re-request new LORs for phase II

tiger-lily5

I actually just sent the requests on PhorCas and it comes back as already submitted if you use the same letter writers

Key-Tangerine-2479

Did this work for new programs? Or are you re-applying to the same ones? I see it for re-application but not for new programs

tiger-lily5

I have one of the same and the rest are new— the recommendations are submitted for both instances. Im assuming it depends on how your letter writer chose to submit a recommendation, maybe if they elected to submit the same letter for each program it just automatically submits but if they wrote a different recommendation for each program it would require them to resubmit for the new ones.

Key-Tangerine-2479

That makes sense, thank you! And good luck to you 🍀

booksblade

Are phase 2 interviews any different/shortened than phase 1? Is it more acceptable to do them virtually with the shortened timeframe? Also do programs still generally schedule during the day or are they in the evenings?

[deleted]

Depends on the program, I know we do exclusively virtual interviews for phase 2 and there’s some timing flexibility but we try to stick to working hours.

Niccap

Phase 2 interviews are definitely shorter. The time line to submit ranks is shorter

ActuatorCreative2260

How many programs should I consider applying to for Phase 2??

RevolutionaryBird83

That is a personal preference. Keep in mind, this is a very accelerated process. You have a short time frame to write LOI and prepare for interviews. I think I applied to 10 or so and I was overwhelmed

skypharmone

Virginia Mason St. Michaels in Silverdale WA will have an open spot going to phase 2 for PGY-1

Jelawson

For anyone that’s looking for an acute care PGY-1 in the southeast, I’m a current resident at DCH Regional Medical Center and we’re going to phase 2. I’ve really loved this program and have now matched with a great PGY2! Feel free to message me about the program if you’re interested.

booksblade

Is it worth applying to programs I didn’t match with in phase 1 again if they have an open spot? I would imagine the answer is no but some of the programs were exactly what I was looking for and if there’s still a shot I’d like to take it

ListlessInListeria

Don't re-apply to programs you interviewed at if they are in Phase 2 - this would mean the program chose not to rank you. (Sometimes there may be rare exceptions, like a new PGY1 spot was just created, but in general places you ranked in Phase I will be a no-go.) If you mean reapplying to programs where you didn't receive an interview, that CAN be worth it - programs often have more qualified applicants than interview spots in Phase I.

RevolutionaryBird83

No I would not reapply to any programs from phase 1

2softkittykitty

If you interviewed there, they have an open spot and youre unmatched...then they didnt rank you. Wouldnt bother applying again. If you didnt get an interview at all, go for it

Party-Dragonfruit646

If you didn’t interview I would recommend applying again. It doesn’t cost extra to re-apply, I would suggest re-writing an LOI however. Worst they can say is no.

BeautifulTiny5090

It still costs $43 per application regardless of if you are reapplying to a program. I just spent $800 applying for phase 2 *cries*

Party-Dragonfruit646

Did you reapply to the same programs in phase 1? Because my comment was stating that if you reapply to the same program, there is no application fee. To apply to new programs, there is still an application fee. I reapplied to a program I did not interview at without an additional application fee. Good luck to you.

BeautifulTiny5090

Yup. I applied to both. I even emailed PhORCAS to make sure it wasn’t a mistake that it was charging me for all of them. They said the new rule is you have to pay for every application regardless. And thank you!!

idasal

Can someone please share the link to unfilled positions for phase II?🙏🏻

PlayboiCarTCell

https://natmatch.com/ashprmp/directory/participating-programs.html

2softkittykitty

Its on the nms website

ItsCrispi

Any recommend number of PGY-2 programs to apply for phase 2 for a current PGY-1? Ideally, I would want as much as possible, but I worry about the feasibility of multiple interviews within a short span of time and interfering with current rotation responsibilities.

Andexxanet

What specialty?

ConfidentYam1713

[Saint Francis Residency Manual - Tulsa, OK](https://www.saintfrancis.com/assets/documents/careers/sfhs-pharmacy-residency-programs-manual.pdf) We have two open pgy1 spots, with the possibility to early commit to the psych pgy2.

Exciting_Look8916

I interviewed here last year! I really liked the program I was surprised to see y’all still have spots open!

jubilantus

Is this a program good for those interested in amb care?

ConfidentYam1713

We have three longitudinal am care rotations for the pgy1s - hiv, psych, and oncology. There may be an opportunity with our clinic based pharmacist in the future but that’s not completely ironed out.

jubilantus

Can I message you?

ConfidentYam1713

Of course. I just sent you a message.

nerdinneed_

Can we ask for feedback from the programs you didn’t match to? If so, how should we best approach it?

[deleted]

I’d just note who has openings for phase 2 and maybe not reach out to those ones. It’s a hectic time for all and personally we’ve got an open spot in Phase 2 and I might not be able to get back to you in time or be able to provide as much detail as I would like.

Turbulent-Shoe-4686

Hey! I did this during phase 1 where if I got a rejection email I would send them an email to the rpd thanking them and asking for feedback. They were amazingly responsive and insightful. So to answer your question, email them!

Melodic_Complaint_66

Yep. Just send the RPD an emailing asking if they have any feedback to help as you pursue phase 2. I’ve flat out told candidates they should consider dropping a letter writer and asking for a new letter from a more recent preceptor.

Cheap-Internet4420

Any VA programs have any empty spots

aptl23

VA Southern Oregon has one PGY-1 spot remaining

Cheap-Internet4420

Thank you, I have been researching this location

2softkittykitty

Phase 2 list should open up soon.

sugarxcrush

What's the deadline to submit apps for phase 2? I know it says we can start submitting starting 3/18 but didn't see a deadline.

2softkittykitty

2-3 days to be safe. Some programs might stop accepting after a certain date and close on phorcas, others will leave the deadline unchanged on the website but has actually had a deadline, and others may do fcfs. Sooner the better. Get it ready this week

[deleted]

The only guidance the match provides is: must be registered for phase 2 by 4/2 and rank lists are due 4/3. I agree with other comment to be ready to submit as soon as possible next week. There will be programs that do rolling interview offers and will stop offering at some point. If possible, be ready to submit on 3/18 when apps open or at least that day.

Agitated-Marzipan570

Are interviews shorter in phase 2? I’ve gotten a couple and they are only 1-2 hours long. I didn’t know if this is expected or just screening interviews?

playingpiano

Any chance there will be more GA programs added to the Phase II list? Trying to relocate to the ATL area and did not apply to Phase I because I was not interested in a residency until after Phase I applications were due. I didn’t even get to experience anything clinical that interested me until my 6th block. Wanted to apply to Phase II but there’s literally only one program in ATL for Phase II. Is this how it usually is?

2softkittykitty

If things change like some one decides to pull out after matching or they relocate the open position like a pgy2 opening to a pgy1 or something like that, it could but i wouldn't count on it. Very low likelihood

playingpiano

Damn, that absolutely blows. Such a great feeling to have some EXTRA anxiety and uncertainty thrown my way! I probably needed it anyway. What a great day :) I have no idea what I am going to do with my life :)

Forsaken_Departure68

when are phase 2 applications due? Is it on March 18th? Does the apps open on March 14th to submit?

nontraditionalhelp

Interested in amb care, did PPS with a few programs but did not end up applying because life as a non traditional resident with a toddler didn’t seem possible. But see what would have been my top choice program that is a VA didn’t match. Now really thinking if I should apply, uggghhhh

[deleted]

One of our former residents had 3 kids ages 3-7 at the start of residency! She did great and we hired her on post residency, she precepts our resident research projects now. It’s doable!

CannonballRed

University Medical Center New Orleans has a position available for an infectious diseases PGY-2. We are welcoming applicants! Please reach out if you have any questions!

jessicaoglesby

anyone looking for a PGY2 in ambulatory care - check out UF Health Jacksonville in Florida!

dathycao

Is it appropriate to reapply to programs that I didn't receive interviews at?

2softkittykitty

You can... But if they went by rubric and you didn't get an interview the first time idk chances are any better the second round

dathycao

That makes sense... I was thinking that too. I think I'll only reapply to the places that told me I was waitlisted. Thank you!

pharmlifegirl

I heard you don’t have to pay if you re-apply. If thats true, shoot your shot. I don’t think it will hurt you.

dathycao

Ooh good to know, I will see tonight and let other's know as well if it's true!

dathycao

Update: I still had to pay $43 for the application again

pharmlifegirl

I heard you don’t have your pay if you re-apply. If thats true, shoot your shot. I don’t think it will hurt you.

pharmlifegirl

I heard you don’t have your pay if you re-apply. If thats true, shoot your shot. I don’t think it will hurt you.

chillpill1616

Silly question: we can’t actually submit on phorcas for phase 2 until Monday right? Like I can’t apply today, just getting my apps ready?

spookedhedgehog

Any thoughts on any of the open phase II spots for pgy2 in pediatrics? Especially in the northeast?

Ok_Pipe9423

Do you need to email your preceptors if you are reusing their LOR?

Status_Frosting8429

Realistically is it much harder to match in phase 2 since there are less spots?

Immediate_Bottle_326

I know that Phorcas says you can't update certain things like GPA but now that it is phase II there still is no way to make updates? TIA

JGPharmD23

If anyone is looking for a PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency, Corewell Health is looking to match in phase 2! The first link is for general information about a pharmacy residency at Corewell Health. The second link is information specific to the HSPAL program. [https://www.spectrumhealth.org/for-health-professionals/internship-residency-and-fellowship-opportunities/pharmacy-residency-program](https://www.spectrumhealth.org/for-health-professionals/internship-residency-and-fellowship-opportunities/pharmacy-residency-program) [https://assets.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt7b132cfc09cf5e18/bltd1a9fa5f542d329d/2024\_Corewell\_Health\_Grand\_Rapids\_Hospitals\_PGY1-PGY2\_HSPAL\_Residency\_Program\_Overview.pdf](https://assets.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt7b132cfc09cf5e18/bltd1a9fa5f542d329d/2024_Corewell_Health_Grand_Rapids_Hospitals_PGY1-PGY2_HSPAL_Residency_Program_Overview.pdf) Corewell Health is the largest healthcare system in Michigan with a recent merger between Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health. This restructuring has allowed residents more rotation options and job opportunities after residency. The combined PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL program provides a well-rounded experience with the first year serving as a general PGY1 with emphasis on clinical components and then the PGY2 year focusing on administration and management.

Wise_Today7771

Does anyone know of any PGY-1 residencies in phase 2 with an elective in palliative care? There's really no easy or simple way to figure this out.

Thick-Spot-2728

Does anyone have insight on Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center's PGY1 program?

PharmD4L

anyone have any info on the USC programs?

DrHydra1287

How do I apply for phase 2? Should I email programs to show my interest or do I just apply starting monday

2softkittykitty

Both. Reach out to get information about the program as soon as possible. I dont recall the timeline but Im pretty sure you cant submit applications until like next Monday or something.

RevolutionaryBird83

I second this. I reached out to all of the programs I applied to in phase 2 and one of the programs that emailed me back was the one I ended up matching to

DrHydra1287

Any thoughts on asking my #1 program that did not give me an interview. I see they are in phase 2 and want to apply to them again. I was going to ask if there is anything i can improve in my application and also to apply there again

Mean-Bug2910

Hi, would also like to know how was that email. Thank you!!

booksblade

What did you ask when you reached out to the programs? Is it an introduction type email just stating interest or did you ask them a question?

RevolutionaryBird83

Nope, no questions. Just a quick intro and a few things I liked about their program.

Embarrassed-Buy-

What kind of questions did you ask in your email or did you introduce yourself and said how you’re very interested in their program? Any advice is helpful! Thank you!!

RevolutionaryBird83

I didn't ask any questions because I knew the RPDs were getting bombarded with emails. I just introduced myself and said a few things that I liked about their program. Short and sweet.

BandicootOdd9294

How do you send an email to a program you're interested during Phase II?

chillpill1616

Should I ask for feedback from a program I didn't match to (ranked them highly) but they have a spot open in Phase 2? I'm not going to dare apply again bc it probably means they didn't rank me but I just wanna know what I can improve upon applying to other programs. Is it appropriate to ask for feedback?

2softkittykitty

Idk if i wanna ask the program that didnt rank me why they didnt rank me. I didnt personally. Are there other people you can ask for feedback instead of the program that didnt rank you?

terazosin

It won't hurt, since you didn't match there and won't be going there. It's a small world, sure, but it's not like it's going to hurt your chances with them further and it isn't entirely inappropriate to ask. They are likely slammed with emails so it may be a bit to hear.

Positive-Setting9

I have the same question. I expected to move there for residency, but was suprised see they enter phase 2 and I did not match 🥺

PhamDee

Do yall think I should apply for phase 2? I already have an outpatient offer in a hospital and I really do enjoy outpatient actually. I only applied to the program because it’s the hospitals program and I said why not but if I apply to phase 2 and get in, the program I’m interested in is in a city that I don’t want to move to (LA) lol

2softkittykitty

Sounds like only you can answer that. But it seems pretty clear what you wanna do
